A group of us on vacation ordered from here for dinner one evening. We placed our order well in advanced for a pickup later on in the day. We were told to go ahead and pay when we arrived. Corolla Pizza and Deli is a very small store with no indoor or outdoor seating and it resides in a strip of businesses. The door sign had a "STOP" sign in front of it asking to only come in when your name is called on your order. These were a little different instructions than heard over the phone. We waited until about 5 minutes after our asked pickup time and walked in to find the order was completed. We paid right there and were given our food. The sign needless to say was a confusing pickup process with no real line of people of who is first and who already ordered and is waiting to hear their name called. Aside from the slightly confusing and disorganized pickup process, the pizza was pretty good. We ordered the chicken pesto pizza, a pepperoni pizza, a bacon pizza, and a Stromboli. The pizzas were solid, had a ton of cheese and not much sauce (so if you like this combo this pizza is for you), and had a good amount of toppings. The crust was a little larger than you'd expect and our group was not the big crust eating type. The Stromboli was excellent (we asked for extra sauce and it was definitely worth it). Corolla Pizza serves up a thin crust pie with that flat (no large bubbles) cheese surface, great sauce, and they sell by the slice if you only want a snack. You walk in to Corolla Pizza and you are faced with pizza ovens and a guy tossing dough. What is more authentic than that? It's not like most of the pizza places on OBX that are pressing out the dough and cooking it on a conveyer belt, this is properly made. The subs look great, but I think I've only had them once. When I come up this way, I get the pizza. It's worth the drive so why mess with anything else!? They also have a great selection of vintage sodas in bottles. Sitting on the bench outside while eating fresh Jersey style pie and drinking down a Coke, RC or Nehi in a long neck bottle? ...just doesn't get any better. Love this place. read more

Giving it two stars (versus one) because I never got the opportunity to actually try it because I had the bad fortune of showing up at 8:02pm on Monday evening (8/31/2020) to a business that purports to be "Taking orders from 11am -9pm" according to their website (see attached photo). Yup, the girl at the window sent me away at 8:02pm. Apparently, at Corolla Pizza, pizzas take over an hour to cook and that would place undue burden on someone. As a business owner myself, I'd say that's a pretty shitty policy. I'm new to the area and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

They are courteous / as quick as anyone can be during Covid-19 / and their safety protocols are pretty darn good. They only allowed two customers in, at one time, and the staff are all masked. When I called in the pickup order, they told me it would be 1hr:45min, and I was bummed... but it's a Friday during a pandemic, so they're slammed. But they were spot in with the timing. I came back at that time, and they called my name over an outdoor loudspeaker writhing 1min of the scheduled pickup time. The pizza was steaming hot and delicious. I can't comment on the pizza but the cheesesteaks are good. Seems you need to catch them on the right day if you're going to get food here. On Saturday we were quoted a 2+ hour wait time. Monday was only about 45 min. I'm guessing this is a popular destination on move-in days so plan for that in advance. They say they offer free delivery around the area. I didn't realize this until I picked up our food. They only allow 2 customers in the shop at a time, so there's a bench outside where you can wait on your order to be ready. Worth checking out, just take note that they may be pretty busy. read more

A Celiac Life-Safer! The gluten free pizza was outstanding! I had pepperoni and black olives on mine. While in Corolla I ordered gluten free pizza twice and had no reaction. This is huge for a celiac! I talked with them when I ordered and they assured me of the precautions they take to keep the gluten free pizzas safe (put foil under them, etc.) loved loved loved this pizza! I am an extremely picky eaten and it's really hard to please me when it comes to food (especially pizza) but Corolla Pizza and deli was so good, I couldn't believe it. If I ranked all the pizza places I've ever tried, this would be number 1. During my week stay, we ordered from them 3 separate nights (I honestly would've done it more!!). I got the cheese pizza both times but honestly everyone looks appetizing and my family enjoyed the veggie pizza a lot. I regret not trying the margarita!!! Now that I'm back in my home town I'm having pizza withdrawals from this place! Seriously it is so good, it is so worth the hour & 30 minute wait. So when you're literally stuck on an island, you want a pizza place that will listen to you and take care of you. My mother has a major allergy to a very specific spice, and I explained that to them on the phone when ordering. They assured accommodation and no problem, and then I went to pick up our pizzas, I asked them again to be sure she'd be safe. They assured me she was. She wasn't. They were wrong. They failed to identify a simple ingredients which they said they could easily avoid. All they had to do was say, "we can't protect against that", or "we're sorry, we're not sure." Instead, they reassured me twice she would be fine, and instead I spend the evening with an epinephrine pen in my hand as my Mom chugged Benadryl. Truly shameful. Toppings were not immense but adequate for the coverage. I did ask for well done pizza but I felt that only the pepperoni pie was out of the 2 cheese and 1 veggie I ordered. Being from Philadelphia I eat too much pizza but Corolla Pizza ranks up there with my favorites from back home. If I'd vacation here again, I'd definitely be back for Corolla Pizza. $63 for 2 large plain, 1 large pepperoni, and 1 large veggie.
