I am hoping they do well in this location, I have not seen many incarnations of the Cushing Street location, I can't even count the times of opening and closing. This time it is exactly the same interior and patio as all the other restaurants, right down to the uncomfortable ice cream parlor chairs on the patio. We sat inside for a moment and it was super loud, so we found a table outside. The patio has never lived up to any real potential, it remains again a great space with no clear vision. I had the happy hour price steamed clams ( clams are way smaller than mussels) and a small bowel of the soup of the day, a piece of bread, a non-alcoholic hops drink, and split the Tack Room Mouse slice of cake. Out the door with tax and tip around $40.00, while the food was not bad, it was not that good for the price. The service was ok but not great, it took a long time to get water at the table, and the food came out randomly not at the same time . I think the Coronet left something significant behind in the move from 4th avenue to Cushing, because I really liked it back there, this not so much. I quite enjoyed my recent visit to The Coronet. The food is very good; the ambience is lively and fun, though the noise could be a little overwhelming. My companions began with the Dinner Salad, while I selected the Beet & Halloumi Salad. Theirs was a simple green salad, but nothing special. The beet salad was excellent, though! Large slabs of salty halloumi cheese are paired with chopped beets, hazelnuts, and shallot, and drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette. This salad hits all the right notes: salty, rich, zesty, bright, and earthy. I'd honestly love an entree-sized portion! For our entrees, we selected the Salmon, the Roast Chicken, and the Roast Eggplant. The salmon was topped with a butter citrus sauce and served with a spiced pumpkin puree and creamy leeks and rutabagas. It was a delicious dish -- subtle and appropriately wintery-feeling. The portion was small, but was sufficient when following a salad. The chicken was on the other end of the spectrum in that it was a very large portion of chicken served with shrimp and a heaping plate of grits. The flavors were bright, bold, and punchy; it felt like a fun twist on both shrimp and grits and southern-style chicken with okra and greens. The peanuts added a great textural element as well. The eggplant was a very interesting dish. It's large eggplant steak with a creamy couscous and accompanying squash, radish, and greens, and the flavors strongly reminded me of Thai food. It was good, but only for serious lovers of eggplant. We were excited to see the new location, which is charming, and were happy to see the restaurant happily bustling. This did mean, however, that it was quite loud. Between the live music and the way the patrons' conversations echo loudly in the space, it was difficult to hold a conversation. It's also quite dimly-lit, so I'd recommend against taking anyone with vision or hearing impairments unless you're able to make accomodations for their needs. read more

Wow, just seriously wow! Now I knew I was going to enjoy The Coronet, it has always been a fantastic spot. But this new space just fits them so well. It's so Tucson, yet the eclectic blend of furnishings and decor mirror the uniqueness of their menu. I think it was the best Chicken dish I have ever had. No joke. The best. The wine menu actually delivers diversity! From deep dark reds, and full whites, to light zippy whites and bright reds. The cocktail program is equally as impressive. Had dinner last night inside the restaurant. The setting was delightful for a nice date night. The service was great as well. Drinks were balanced and worth the price. It's pretty rare for a restaurant to offer Aviation cocktails and get it right. It was so good. We ordered 2 small plates and 1 entree since we wanted something kinda light for dinner. I'm all for spending money on quality so I don't mind small portions as long as the flavor is there and worth it. Carpaccio was disappointing... I think it needed a pinch of salt added right before serving or maybe a better aioli to be honest. The portion was absurd, I've paid a few dollars more for about 3 times as much meat with way more flavor at places like Wren and Wolf in phx and Perche No off of Congress. Corn bisque was actually really enjoyable with bursted tomatoes in it. Mushroom steak had good flavor but would I be back just for the food? Probably not unfortunately read more

We were in Tucson staying at the newly remodeled Citizen to see a concert. This restaurant was highly recommended. Due to a lively crowd we were seated at the bar. Our server and bartender was efficient and friendly. Our cocktails were spot on. I heard the braised rabbit was outstanding ( I have had some delicious rabbit in Paris and in the US) . So no question I ordered that, ( rabbit with vegetables and a reduction) My husband ventured out with the hangar steak with a mushroom sauce. Our plates arrived 8 minutes later.Both dishes were luke warm. My rabbit was dry, stringy and could have been turkey for all I know. I loved the carrot and the reduction sauce was very good. If this had been my first time experiencing rabbit I would never order it again My husbands steak was treated well, And steak is forgiving and still tasty when cold. Disappointed indeed I let our sever know . She came back with apologies from the chef and took one cocktail off of our bill. I would rather have had some really good rabbit! First of all, if you don't appreciate a creative menu, don't come; it's not your kind of place. But if you do like new twists and interesting combinations, Coronet's menu is delightfully fun. The patio is a very nice setting; the chairs don't look terribly inviting but the cushions work, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. So why not five stars? Service. While almost everyone was friendly and we experienced no time pressure, the tone for the evening was set by the host. (Front-side manager? Not sure the title, but it's the person who mans the front desk.) After making us wait for a bit for no obvious reason (note that we did have a reservation) except apparently to make sure we knew who was in charge, he deigned to seat us in what must be the coldest, least friendly fashion I can remember at an upscale restaurant outside of, say, New York or Paris, where I expect this sort of BS. And this wasn't just us; two of my friends have related that they each (separately) had roughly the same experience. Couple this inexcusable coldness with the several mistakes the rest of the staff made (bringing us the wrong dishes, bringing us the wrong check, and so on) and it's simply not up to the standard one expects at these prices. read more

We drew the bad server card on a celebratory evening with our friends. I can't remember what the servers name was but she did not come close to deserving the gratuity added to our 300 dollar bill. I think automatic gratuity at 22% has its place but you should be able to opt out based on the service. This tallish blondish woman didn't offer if we needed anything else after she removed our plates (sometimes prematurely). All of our wine, beer and cocktail glasses stood on the table empty... ice melted and all. She also felt the need to broadcast her voice as if we were in a Def Leopard concert. If you're in the business of service, it's best to act like you care about the people you're helping. Even if you don't. She did the hard-sell to order additional food because the portions were too small. At the prices they offered, I can see why. Like, I know it's good for the business to upsell, but upsell more drinks or desert. Not entrees. If your server is going to complain that the portions are too small, it might be a good time to retrain. We likely won't be back because of the high percentage we'll get her again. read more

A group that I belong to recently had a coffee event there and the staff was great, setting up reserved tables for us in advance. If you are looking for that upscale yet laidback place for dining, this is the best spot! It is just south of the hubbub of Congress Street. The whole vibe is much more chill. What a lovely atmosphere to celebrate my birthday with a friend. Our waiter was amazing and even had the perfect timing. We start it with a sangria which was wonderful. Then my girlfriend and I decided just to have four different appetizers for dinner. Both of us agreed the risotto was amazing. The flavors along with the caramelized roasted vegetables was warming and very much in season. Then we had ceviche. I told my girlfriend this was a Peruvian styles so she asked the waiter who concurred. Yellow tail-fin is marinated in lime and coconut water. Then the platter is served with various vegetables and jicama sticks. Absolutely divine. The artichoke crisped with a coating of lightly caressed seasonings along with the leek fritters it made for quite a variety of umami flavors. We had high hopes for a visit after hearing good things . We were traveling w the dog and so needed outdoor seating . We called a few hours before and we're told that since it 'might rain '(!!) they weren't setting up the outside seating . Service was hit and miss. The waiter was super friendly but heard medium well instead of medium rare for my 40 plus dollar (!!!) NY strip steak. The chef filleted it in half and overcooked it, like when an inexperienced midwesterner orders well done fillet mignon. The waiter was good in that although he didn't write down anything the rest of the orders were accurate and very delicious. It's still one of the best dining atmospheres in Tucson in my opinion. The Coronet did a good job of maintaining and enhancing the classic Cushing Street vibe I e always loved. The "host" was SUPER RUDE. There was confusion on our side regarding the reservation time. Even though we admitted our mistake the host acted like he was personally wronged and talked down to us like we were his children. Since it was late afternoon and the dining room was empty they accommodated us ok, but I personally wouldn't want to deal with this person in the future. It really put a wet blanket in what was going to be a nice evening downtown. I will return in the future as I think I can consider this a one-off bad experience, but the host we had needs to relax or find something more suitable for his personality. Celebrated my 70th birthday at Coronet last night. Magical evening - intimate patio, top notch server and food was out of this world! We all chose from the new menu & savored every bite. Highlights were tempura trumpet mushroom & corn bisque (appetizers) and wild boar bucatini & crusted sea bass (entrees), and orange date cake & everything corn (desserts). The relaxed atmosphere gives the sense of being able to kick back after that hard day in the 'salt' mine and think of days to come which dreams are made of. Being from back east, it reminds me of places underworld figures would frequent along with anyone who was who of the day. The clientele of today appear to be of the business class and above. Went for Valentine's Day. We got a charred octopus small plate and for entrees ordered the moqueca (fish stew) and one of the V-Day specials (a steak with garlic potatoes and roasted carrots). Firstly, the food was DELICIOUS. The octopus in particular was amazing-- I had no idea that octopus could have a soft texture like this one. I thought it always had to be chewy. Honestly, that was probably my favorite bite there (the entrees were good, but that was just stand out). The four stars is because the desert had a weirdly burnt taste. It was a special bread pudding, but neither of us liked it. Very bitter taste. The aesthetic was very dark, with a live musician singing French music. I ended up having to wear a blanket because the patio is very cold at night-- but, I kind of expected that! Just keep it in mind before you sit outside. read more

We were thrilled to see Coronet posted a new takeout menu during the Covid takeout/delivery only orders. This is one of the best takeout menus we've enjoyed thus far...why? Because it's a heat and serve menu. So, the meal is cooked but light refrigerated so you are prompted to warm it back up in the oven at 350 degrees. We did just that and the food was still perfect and super flavorful. You can enjoy 20% off with curbside pickup too! The entrees each come with a choice of salad. We didn't expect such large portions so we had left over the next day! We ordered the Sirloin with chimichurri sauce and asparagus. The pork tenderloin with honey chile rub and sweet potatoes. We chose the lentil salad and the freekeh cashew salad with our entrees. We also added the mediterranean potatoes. We didn't really need them but they were super yummy. I love this menu because it's delicious and there's something for everyone (carnivores, vegetarians, vegan). The ordering process was super easy and pick up was even easier. The food was ready at the time they said it would be ready. We'll order from Coronet again for sure! read more

This restaurant and bar are lovely! In reading over the other reviews, I find it interesting that the reviews are all over the place. There seems to be a lack of consistency either in the food or service. My husband and I found the cocktails, staff and ambiance spot on, however the food was unremarkable in taste, small in portion and pricey. The venison was way overcooked, tough, and tasteless, served with potatoes that were less than 3 bites. Have cocktails and tidbits here and go somewhere else for dinner. read more

Insulting prices. Vibey staff. Don't waste your money or your evening out to be treated to rude and pretentious wait staff gracing you with 'magical food' they think might be too advanced for you to understand. These are mostly kids with a grievance to grind and a lecture they'd like to hammer. But in typical form it's only veiled and passive aggressive and they'll 'vibe' the hell out of you and talk trash in the back room and give each other knowing glances as they pass each other on the floor. Saw instances of both in their reactions to other tables. Food was just ok. The prices for Tucson are outrageous -$50 entrees. There's no Michelin star here. Menu is limited and pretentious and complicated. But then you get raw butternut squash on kale and some toasted walnuts. Inexpensive ingredients dressed up with language. I'm a visiting "Portland foodie" and yep a progressive but I still found myself allergic to this "thing" they are trying to project. It was clunky. It's trying too hard. It feels scammy. HOWEVER The building is an institution in Tucson. Walk through and get a cocktail (main restaurant bartender made a fine Caipirinha and was VERY quiet and serious about it. Emphasis on quiet.). Sit in the central patio for music. Do not I repeat DO NOT go into the main restaurant for dinner. Sadly the 'clandestine' side bar (missed potential here) was staffed by a pretty vibey and awkward bartender (detecting a theme). In the end left feeling robbed after spending $125 on a meal and 2 glasses of wine not worthy of such a price tag. The building my god the building. Would I spend $125 an hour to spend time in it? Probably not, but I do so want someone to take on this space and kill it. The potential here is through the roof for the right business. This one isn't it. read more

We were looking forward to dinner at Coronet, eager to find a quality eatery so close to the Symphony. But we were bitterly disappointed. The initial turn off was the room's acoustics. Although we arrived early to a half full dining room, the room noise had already reached at a pitch that made conversation challenging. As the room filled, the noise became almost intolerable. It's not as though there was a loud roudy table causing the elevated noise level. The reverberating acoustics slowly forces the otherwise quiet diners to speak more loudly which in turn raises the noise level necessitating a still louder conversation. All is not lost yet. If the food was exceptional there was the option in a return visit of dining in the patio, away from the interior acoustics. But disappointment again. The halibut entree looked appealing to three diners in our party. All three of our halibut dishes came overcooked and underseasoned. The sauce, an interesting sounding 'pistachio yuzu emulsion' was bland. The addition of salt helped. And the 'glazed celery stalks' and celeriac puree were quite pleasant. But overall it was a very unsatifying meal for the three of us. On the other hand, the Beet & Halloumi Salad was enjoyed by the 4th member of our party. Dessert did not salvage the evening. Panna Cotta should be a delicate dessert with a custard-like consistency. But their Fig Panna Cotta had the consistency of a Greek yogurt with no hint of figs. The 'figs' come from a few tiny pieces of dried figs lumped on top of the not-very-flavorful 'yogurt'. A poached pear dessert was also not distinguishing with the pear lacking much flavor beyond the pear. An order of coffee to accompany dessert was served lukewarm and returned. By the time the replacement arrived, we were through with the dessert course. Amid all these disappointments, we must commend the service which was very good. Jared, our server, was congenial, informative and attentive without being overbearing. Our complaints were handled politely and efficiently. The Coronet moved and somehow the food got... Even better?? Is this possible?! I've always been a huge fan of The Coronet. Their patio was my favorite on 4th Ave. When I heard they were moving, I was worried about what that meant for the restaurant. Well, what that meant was room for growth - literally and figuratively! Upon walking in I immediately felt that vintage charm the old location delivered. Wood furnishings, dim lighting.... My partner and I wanted to sit outside so we got a table in the back patio. It's just as lovely as ever, and much more spacious! Now for the food - the food blew our minds. We ordered mussels as an appetizer and enjoyed eating the bread at the bottom (which was soaked up in delicious broth). For dinner I got a salmon with pumpkin puree. The dish had tons of depth. The pumpkin was slightly sweet but had a slight spiciness to it that gradually built up as you ate. The salmon was perfectly cooked; the skin was light and crispy, the fish soft and succulent. It came with some other sautéed green which was very delicious. Drinks were also perfectly made each and every time. Overall my partner and I were very impressed with The Coronet at its new location.
