Despite the lovely setting, I was disappointed in this restaurant. My steak was tasty, not amazing, and served lukewarm, which was pretty shocking. I was too embarrassed to send it back. The salad was barely enough for one person. My partner's steelhead was good but not exceptional. I don't understand at all why this restaurant is considered so special. Came for New Years. It was an expensive prix fixe and I understand a busy day for the kitchen staff. I'm vegetarian and they had vegetarian an explicit option. But turned out I just got stale cold bread, cold fried things that were just oil cause they were fried at least hours earlier and beets. Many many beets. No sauce or preparation just boiled beets For dessert was a "chocolate mousse" which was at best brownie mix if you cooked the eggs in the batter. If I accidentally made that at home I wouldn't even eat it myself, it would go straight to the garbage. And to top it off we were rushed the entire time, next course came immediately when they took away the last course. And then after 90min they told us to leave cause another party had a reservation. The Coronet is still Cushing St without music except Thurs and Sundays, which is unfortunate because that brings part of the ambience into it but I get it more tables means more money. Can't fault them for the furniture but I do wish cushions were available, it is truly unpleasant to ache from hard chairs in restaurants. *shrugs* Service was fine, although half way through our appetizers within 20 minutes we were asked if it's okay to serve our main meal. Indeed my husband was put off, isn't it fairly obvious we came to relax, drink our wine, enjoy our company etc.. we certainly don't want to be rushed. Food was good but not enough to go back to as it is there are plenty of places to eat unfortunately this won't be one of them. read more

The first time I cleaned my plate at a restaurant in a long time. The pork chop was medium well, as requested. The whipped sweet potatoes were light and fluffy. The egg and bacon and parsley brought out the flavor of the pork chop and the fruits, blackberries and a date enhanced the flavor of the pork chop so well. This place's atmosphere is beautiful. If you haven't been to The Coronet since they moved from 4th, do yourself a favor and head that way, but be sure to make reservations for dinner as they fill up quickly, especially on the patio. We have been coming to Tucson several times a year since 2009, and The Coronet, Nightjar (their nighttime bar), and Meyer Café (their breakfast place), are new favorites. The food, drinks, wine and service were all excellent. I enjoyed the Chicken Roulade on our first visit, and the Steelhead Salmon on our second. We had a great bottle of Pinot for only $66. For desert we enjoyed the almond cake and the the chocolate mouse (more like a flourless chocolate cake). They have an awesome breakfast place in the same courtyard, Meyer Avenue Café. We had dinner with friends at the Coronet last night and we were not disappointed. Our friends had just been seated, and the hostess unerringly brought us to them. Our server immediately asked if there were any immediate needs, then a few minutes later, after we had a chance to peruse the uniquely exotic menu, she was back to help us one by one by explaining menu items as well as the off-menu special. Service was quiet and unobtrusive, but by standing next to each diner in turn, conflict with the music of the pianist two tables away was really not a bother. I had the East African lamb dish, redolent with herbs and spices and delicious, with a fresh flavor bomb in each bite. My wife enjoyed her chicken dish down to the last crumb off the bone. Our friends similarly enjoyed their dishes so much that conversation almost stopped while we were tending to business on the plates. Dessert was not a relic, but a legacy from the past: the Tack Room chocolate mousse dressed with creme fraiche, rich and aromatic. The decor, with antique miniatures and bottles, suggests a restaurant from another era, and is worth a walk around the periphery of the restaurant while supper begins to digest. We've been two times now. Both have been great experiences, the menu is very American New, interesting dishes. On the lighter side of dinners, which i love. It is a little pricey, but not too horrible. Service is amazing, parking is easy, beautiful indoor and outdoor eating commons and good food, our party of 7 all enjoyed their dishes but one. After having been told that this is the "Jewel in the crown " of restaurants in Tucson I went expecting,at least, not to leave hungry. Not only did that not happen but I can honestly say that this was the most disappointing dining experience in my five-year experience of exploring new restaurants throughout Tucson. I was privileged to have been a restaurant reviewer in the Hamptons on Long Island and enjoyed some remarkable meals throughout that time. In all of my years I have never been so disappointed. I can only begin by mentioning that the potato leek soup was appalling. The presentation was of large chunks of potato floating in a meager amount of liquid with charred remains of cauliflower floating on top. Thinking perhaps I might be missing something I made the mistake of trying the cauliflower and found it to be nothing more than burnt remnants. The artichoke hearts were tasty but not appetizingly displayed. The extra-charge baguette was at least a day old if not older. There were no butter plates provided. In general the service was not thoughtful. They were out of the steel head that was used for their signature dish and they offered a replacement of Seabass. My husband is 6 foot two and the portion was adequate for a five-year-old. Our dining partners ordered the squab and it was unappetizingly displayed, overcooked and in general tasteless. There were no vegetables served as an accoutrement. The plates were all small plates sized even though the pricing and the description were that of a full dinner. All in all, not only will I never go back but I hope that the dining public takes note and lets the owners be aware of their shortcomings. Take this review to heart and dine elsewhere. read more

I didn't enjoy the "old" Coronet. The service didn't match the prices and the menu was odd at times. The new Coronet is promising. I've been three times now and aside from the gift of gorgeous location and setting, sometimes it's heightened with lovely Brazilian live bossa nova music, which complements the old new-world décor and ambience. The menu has great standards for meat eaters, and if you get the steak, it's a great value at about $30, with a lovely hunk of melty cheese on top. The pork is a monochromatic but lovely tasting dish, and the lamb has a lovely spice that if one didn't enjoy, might feel it pervaded the dish too successfully. There are several others dishes worthy of a try, which is good -- the menu isn't too grand; there are no pages to turn. But it's varied enough to go back several times and try something new. One of my favorite aspects of the menu is the happy hour. I've had delicious soups for the happy hour appetizer, and each time different. They also have some lovely traditional handcrafted cocktails for happy hour so it's as though one is enjoying a little meal, before the meal if one partakes in some drink and nibbles before the main fare. I would also suggest even on chilly evenings the outdoor patio. It's in a lovely courtyard, with heatlamps if needed, and outside the din of the interior. Unfortunately "good" seating limited. There is a long corridor where one party must face the wall and focus intently on the dining partner, while the other will have the captain's view and be able to soak up the ambience, while your dining partner drones on. Wow - what an amazing place! The food is a mix of European and middle eastern, and is as locally sourced and sustainable as possible. It is accordingly a little spendy for Tucson, but worth every penny. The food was exquisite - delicious, unique, and filling. We were lucky enough to get Miguel as our server - extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I don't know how I've lived here for so long and not been here before - I will certainly be back! My husband and I shared the coffee roasted carrots, Steelhead, Angus NY strip, and chocolate mousse - all amazing. They have a unique wine list - we tried one from Slovenia, a first for us. The ambience is great, both indoor and outdoor. Service is friendly. The food was good, but not remarkable. The portions were very small, even for someone like me who doesn't like large volume servings. And the prices are very high for what you get. Even something as basic as bread - which many dining establishments provide gratis - needs to be purchased and is served as four small slices of baquette. It's just not the same .... We are long time Coronet visitors and were excited to go to the new location. The food arrived cold, the chocolate mousse wasn't a mousse, the soup was a thick enchilada sauce not a soup, the menu descriptions seemed off from what arrived.... The cocktails were fine... The service was lacking.... took multiple requests to get simple things like bread, cocktails and water. The order numbers were backwards for every serving... cocktails, appetizers, and main. It got old having to repeat ourselves. We made the reservation more than a month ago for the holidays and we were seated next to the door with cold air and people standing over us. Like we had made the reservation that morning and we were being squeezed in. Not what we hoped for... sadly, we won't be back and we won't recommend to others. read more

I was very happy that The Coronet had reopened. I went this morning to get breakfast around 8:30. I came with my wife and 1 year old daughter. We were greeted very unpleasantly and not welcoming. We tired to brush it off but after trying to order the lady told us our daughter couldn't come inside that only one of us could order. It was about 50 degrees or colder and when we told the lady we would leave because it was to cold for us she rudely said she could have turned on the warmers. read more

The Culotte Steak had to be sent back to the kitchen twice because it was cold; you would think they could have solved the issue the first time. The steak was also tough and overpriced. Two meals here! One dinner was very nice, a bit pricey so it's for a special occasion but the wine list was good and everyone enjoyed their meals except for the guy who got the lamb meatballs.
