I love the food at this Tai establishment. There was no one in the dining area and that was perfect for us. There was a lot of pick up throughout the time we were there. That shows me that the community Loves the food. Everything was perfect. It was very clean inside. The size is spacious but on the small end,, but they do have an outside veranda that is covered. It is a nice small spot that is serves good thai food. I came here the 3rd time and ordered the chicken pad kee mao, the sriracha wings, coconut chicken mushroom soup, and chicken pad see ew. Such a cute place! Ample outdoor seating for a summer day with delicious and hearty plates of fresh noodles, rice, and vegetables. I ordered the vegetable pad Thai and kao pad. Both were so filling and the servings were huge! Lots of vegetables too but a bit oily. Oddly enough, our food came out at pretty different times for a party of 4. I enjoyed a Thai tea milk tea and honeydew milk tea with boba. You can order a size regular or a large. My friend recommends the beer by the bottle. They also have beer on tap. We were in the area for some fast bites. I was craving for some Thai food so we checked out this establishment. I was not happy with my food which was veggie dumpling and coconut bubble tea. My dumplings were very dry yet the sauce was tasty it was a sort of sweet soy sauce and my bubble tea was not at all good the tapioca tasted odd like too much sugar was in the beverage. During these COVID-19 times I do not like to give a bad review as I understand everybody is struggling and trying to make a living. Perfect amount of sauce, so it's not too salty and dry. Massaman Curry - Love this. It has a very gamey flavor from the meat. Green Curry - Another solid classic. Pad Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles) - A must order if you want a guaranteed good dish choice. Hoy Lay Pad Prik Kow (clam dish) - Flavor's great, but I got bored of the taste quickly. Tum Thai (papaya salad) - This is a must order. A warning though, this is quite spicy. The burn lingered in my mouth for 10-15 minutes after I stopped eating it. Still an enjoyable burn where you can taste the salad. All the appetizers I've ever tried so far have been delicious (curry puff, chicken satay, Gui Chai) Spice level: You can adjust the spice levels. This has to be my favorite pad thai place! I first tried it out due to it being "near" work and also available through a food delivery service. I haven't never eaten there, though I've been there for pickup more than a few times. The interior is quaint and the decor has that nice feel that sets a nice and casual ambiance. The staff is also super nice. I always get the food to go because I get it delivered to my work and even as a take-away, it's delicious and consistently tasty. Only once, when my husband went to satisfy one of my cravings after an hour round trip drive, it was as though they forgot to add the sauce that makes it taste like pad thai and it was just the noodles and meat. Strange. It is a little more pricey than some other places I've had and even more so on the apps, mainly because it's $3 more for shrimp, but you only get 4 pieces in your whole order. The portion of noodles is decent and pretty filling. The lunch portion is smaller and comes with 1 spring roll and a salad, but is also cheaper. My husband has tried the pad see ew before and he liked it, but I thought it weirdly had a coffee-like taste. It wasn't bad, but not what I expected. I heard about this place from the day it opened. Wish I could give it 3 1/2 stars. My waitress was really sweet when dealing with my greedy son. He had the thai wings which I thought taste really well. I went with the calamari.... absolutely horrible. It basically tasted like onion rings from burger king.... over fried... I'm an idiot to even try it at a thai spot but anyway... On to entrees. I ordered the pad kee mow with shrimp- perfect! Just the right hint or spice. I wasnt disappointed and would come back for it again. My son had the fried rice with chicken and judging from his empty place I would say it was amazing. Nice ambiance. We took a seat in the backyard and it was pretty empty. One couple was leaving when we arrived and then it was us alone in the backyard. Cute lighting. In addition to a full regular menu, they offer a large number of vegetarian/vegan options, including vegan tom kha soup (the first thing I look for). They also serve a selection of wines and beers to go with your lunch/dinner, which is a nice option to have. I'm a huge huge huge South East Asian eater. I've been to Thailand and have experienced very good food. I was very happy to see that we had a new Thai restaurant addition to our neighborhood. I had ordered the lunch special Chicken Pad Thai and added shrimp as extra. I found the sauce to be to sweet for the dish. There was barely any chicken in my dish and extra shrimp really meant 3. Now your pal Johnny is many things: an old school dude who can quote several episodes of THE GOLDEN GIRLS from memory, a passable backgammon player, a character witness in a divorce trial who will speak to your many sterling qualities (even if your pal has only known you for a few hours). The bottom line here is that your pal Johnny is a Johnny of all trades. He's even collected a paycheck or two over this. Because, hey, that's the kind of thing we have to do in New York in order to survive. But the role that probably concerns you hip Yelpsters and whether or not you're going to part with your hard-earned clams at a joint with a terrible pun contained in its name is lunch special man. Your pal is one of those cheapskates who waits until 2:30 PM or so and who calls "lunch special" an early dinner. Much like other penny-pinchers call happy hour "meeting for drinks." You ain't really having dinner or drinks. You're taking advantage of the $1 chicken wings because you can't afford the usual $18 platter. And in these tough times, your pal Johnny understands. But honesty is the best policy when stating your bona-fides. Now even accounting for pandemic inflation, twelve dollars is a tad steep for a lunch special. Not outside the boundaries of going Brooklyn rates, this being gentrifying New York and all, but still not quite below the going Hamilton threshold that your pal Johnny relies on in order to avoid extended soliloquies to his landlord. But your pal Johnny was feeling a bit less of a tightwad than normal and decided to give this Thai place a try, twelve dollars or not. He was steered to a decent outdoor patio spread, where two white male gentrifiers, both fairly unremarkable, were sitting at one of the picnic tables, yakking it up as some kid in a stroller stared at all the unremarkable guy talk with justified boredom. But the kid kept quiet. Probably because the kid sensed what I did. That this was an unassuming place that served the Cortelyou strip as advertised and that you wouldn't have a problem in. Your pal Johnny had himself a coconut milk soup that was alright, an order of pad thai that was alright (the noodles weren't doused in that viscous sauce you get from dives and, hey, maybe these good folks were riding the peanut oil a bit too hard, but the dish came together) and a spring roll that was alright. The service was friendly and professional. And aside from the silly stay-at-home dad swagger, which came with mention of illusory startup plans that even a Bay Ridge naif would see as diaphanous balderdash, your pal Johnny had no complaints. Tasty Thai food without having to venture to downtown Brooklyn or the city. Corthaiyou has got seating out in front as well as a backyard with large picnic tables. Food is consistently fresh, nicely presented and reasonably well portioned for the price. Spicy typically means spicy, but not always. They're also happy to accommodate when you want a certain dish's flavor profile but not much heat. I'm the guy who typically orders an avocado salad app and noodle-dish with chicken or shrimp as my main and I'm always pleased with the food and service here. Service is always polite and attentive, even when they've got people spread outside front and back of the restaurant during these crazy COVID times. Back in his Village Voice days, intrepid food writer, Robert Sietsema ticked all the right fangirl prerequisite boxes for me. Willing to schlep to the far reaches of the outer boroughs iso good eats? Check. Contagious enthusiasm for obscure ethnic cuisines, ingredients that could be construed as 'scary,' and total lack of ambiance be damned? Check. Flash forward to Sietsema's current Eater gig and I can't help but feel he's lost a bit of his edge. How else to explain his recent review of this place? To back up for a minute, I confess I didn't do any menu recon before heading here, so I was surprised to see offerings that consisted *mostly* of familiar standbys like Pad Thai and Chicken Satay. Since Sietsema had mentioned the Chef's Isan background I expected that to play more into the menu. Oh well, I figured. If the food was good, I could deal: Sriracha Wings: Our server recommended either this or the Baby Back Ribs as the best apps. And you know what? Even though I was dubious and wanted to order something more "interesting," they were deliciously crisp and perfectly glazed. I hate to say it, but they were the best thing hubby and I ate. Mango Salad: This arrived sitting in a pool of too much dressing, rendering it soggy. A topping of sliced avocado that had begun to blacken didn't help. My gold standard for this Salad is served at Sripraphai. It's bright, fresh, and herbaceous, punctuated with crunchy cashews and the pungent bite of sliced red onions. This one dimensionally spicy, waterlogged effort depressed me. Mushroom Laab: I ordered this because I hoped it would be like the version I've tried and enjoyed at Som Tum Der. In that version, the kitchen finely dices the mushrooms to mimic traditional ground meat. In this one, the mushrooms were thickly cut into strips, resulting in an unpleasant, chewy texture. It was topped with a wedge of iceberg lettuce that seemed totally random. If it had a purpose, it would have been great if our server had explained it to us. Green Curry with Chicken: This wasn't half bad. Chicken was nice and tender, but the sauce was too thin, imo. Dug the cute 'n cozy dining space, which drew a diverse, laid back crowd on our Saturday night visit. In the end, though, I wound up channeling Alanis Morissette. As in isn't it ironic that it's the Sriracha Wings, of all things, that will probably entice me to return to this spot?:) read more
