Absolutely incredible Thai food in the prospect heights neighborhood! The service was top notch, and very attentive! The food was so authentic - we ordered: 1. shrimp pineapple fried rice, the shrimp was perfectly crispy and the flavors of the pineapple fried rice were so delicate, it complemented it very well! The portion size was generous as well! 2. Thai green curry which comes with rice. Medium spicy. It was delicious, very delicate flavors, not a single spice was over powering. I tasted lemongrass too, which is usually missing in a lot of the Americanised restaurants. The rice was perfectly cooked. 3. Rose petal- the drink was delicious it had lychee boba in it. So good! I tried takeout from here recently and was so happy with my meal! The samyan wings were the standout for me, so crispy with a sauce that was just spicy enough without being overwhelming, a little sweet too. The short rib massaman was delish, the currants and shallots added a nice sweetness and texture, the curry was rich and savory, and I liked the small potatoes instead of the typical cubes of yukons. The short rib was pretty tender and there was enough meat for one hefty serving, a fair amount of it was fat. The crab fried rice was yummy as well, your standard fried rice but with a generous amount of well prepared fresh crab on top. It was nice to have the sauces to try, a bit too vinegary and intense for me but I just wanted to keep things savory. They even gave me a little container of pickled cabbage and carrots for on top. Reaaaaalllly good Thai food at Samyan. We came here during lunch and they have a very reasonable lunch menu! $15-$17 dishes and some drink and appetizer add ons if you wish. I ordered the green curry with beef from the lunch menu. The curry is very watery but tasted really delicious. The beef with boiled texture and lots of peppers were in the sauce. It came with white rice and I loved it. The crispy tofu add on was good if you like tofu! The sweet peanut sauce went perfectly with the fluffy tofu. The beef pad see eww was one of the best I've ever had. From the texture of the noodles, to the sauce, to the veggies and beef. It's a must have here! Tom yum soup came in a huge tower and was perfect to share. We ever had some leftovers. Good amount of shrimp and veggies inside. Quick and attentive service! Honestly, I want to gatekeep, but I love Samyan and the staff so much it's more important that they are known and have great business! This is one of the best Thai spots I've been to in NYC. Highly recommend the tom yum goong soup and crab fried rice. I have as yet to try to khao soi but I'm dying to! There are so many great things on the menu it makes ordering tough! They also offer lunch specials and happy hour! Tisha provides the most friendly and wonderful service -- she does it all and often takes care of everything all by herself! Lunch in Brooklyn during in-between meetings of my professional duties of a Wednesday afternoon summons Thai cuisine. Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles), chicken $15.00 Stir-fried flat rice noodle, bamboo shoots, garlic, basil, fresh chili, onion, carrot, string bean, bell pepper, long hot chili The flat rice noodle quantity was sufficient, but minimal and there were too much onion, insufficient string bean, two paucity pieces of carrot. I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. Samyan is a Thai cafe located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, NYC and accessible via MTA NYC Transit C local train at Clinton-Washington subway station. This cafe is a independently owned and operated, thankfully. The waitress did check-in with me during my meal for attentive customer service. The atmospheric conditions were a simple small dine-in cafe. There were many paintings, portraits hanging on their walls of white subway tiles. Gold metallic metal chopsticks and fork are provided. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. Peony rose are very simply and made pretty table centerpiece decorations. Takeout menu and business cards are available for grabs. I did received my sales receipt. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 18%, 20% and 22% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I paid $23.00 in cash as the waitress' informative knowledge of the ingredients and preparation of the heat level on the Scoville scale. read more

So far so good! Tried out this relatively new Thai spot and was impressed with the bold flavors and attentive service. We sampled a few dishes, including the pork belly appetizer and crab curry. Everything was tasty and well spiced. Speaking of, Samyan actually offers Thai spicy level of spice, and I believe it! The medium here is more like a medium-high spice elsewhere-- cool. They have a terrific happy hour and pretty fresh flowers to go with the dim lighting. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

Super cute new Thai place in Clinton Hill!! The place has a bit of an old school antique vibe, and it felt very calming to walk in. All the recommendations were delicious, and we had three of the dishes: Crab meat curry - incredible balance of flavors, and they give you a REALLY generous portion of meat! Five Spices Pork Belly - braised to a softness and tenderness that melts in your mouth, and the flavor is so deliciously cooked all the way through Tom Yum Goong - this dish comes in a traditional steamboat, and the sour flavor hits you immediately. I like a bit more milky texture, but still really enjoyed this!! Dessert - the coconut cream is no joke, it was garnished and decked out with nuts and jelly and all the textures worked so well together. They also have a mango ice cream available as well! So I'm going to say this here but only as a preparation for a piece I plan to write for the Times- restaurants are no longer authentic places anymore and by authentic, I mean, independently owned and operated. Our neighborhoods are being taken over corporations that are not only eating up real estate and driving the rents through the roof and squeezing out the individuals and families from being small landlords - they are doing Ty same thing to the restaurant industry ...nationwide. This restaurant raised all the red flags for me of this insidious and corrupt process. I paid $16 for a tofu appetizer in a small, modest, neighborhood place. Enteees all ran in the 35-40$ range. An eye opening price point for a place with one person working the entire floor, with motorcyclists charging through every fifteen minutes for take out orders and with - and while this is ubiquitous, it is no less suspicious--the infamous mobile charging points for credit cards where suddenly your dinner table turns into a cashier' register and you're having to do what your waiter used to do away from your dining table. Discretely, elegantly. No more. Was the food good? Sure- almost boringly well executed. But the prices? Maybe it reflects the fort Greene real estate but I think there's a collusion and just as corporate America sold out America in the 1980s under Reagan with its heartland farmers turning one of the most cherished forms of labor and knowledge and intergenerational pride into a big agribusiness (followed by the the rise of deadly diseases and mass culling seasonally) - so are our once cherished restaurants which were once honestly run by real people, real families and not by faceless and vicious corporations who have made living in nyc impossible for millions. read more

I can only say great things about this neighborhood restaurant. Everything from the classic pad thai and curry dishes to the more unique and authentic gra pow beef is just amazing. The service is wonderful and friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and cute, with different flowers on the table every time we come. I had a really positive experience at Samyan! Most importantly, the food was delicious. We started with some really killer cocktails--rich and complex but ultimately quite tasty. Then an order of perfectly cooked chive dumplings, followed by a few entrees. My favorites were the khao soi and the green curry, and I also heard the short rib Massaman curry was fantastic. The non-food aspects of the experience were also great. Our waitress was so nice, caring and patient with our questions, and the whole feel of the restaurant was welcoming and cozy. It wasn't too crowded (we were able to walk in and sit right away) but it also wasn't empty-feeling either. Overall, I highly recommend Samyan if you're in the area and looking for Thai! read more

The reception was exceptional! And I'm so excited to try their dishes because their Thai iced tea was superb!!

They may be paying for reviews because I had the opposite of these cliche experiences, granted I did not eat in. Everything on their menu is incredibly overpriced 14 bucks for crab Rangoon? 18 for pad Thai? The Thai place that was formally at this location was way cheaper and better.
