Tom Yum Goong and Green Curry with beef
    Renata G.

Reaaaaalllly good Thai food at Samyan. We came here during lunch and they have a very reasonable lunch menu! $15-$17 dishes and some drink and appetizer add ons if you wish. I ordered the green curry with beef from the lunch menu. The curry is very watery but tasted really delicious. The beef with boiled texture and lots of peppers were in the sauce. It came with white rice and I loved it. The crispy tofu add on was good if you like tofu! The sweet peanut sauce went perfectly with the fluffy tofu. The beef pad see eww was one of the best I've ever had. From the texture of the noodles, to the sauce, to the veggies and beef. It's a must have here! Tom yum soup came in a huge tower and was perfect to share. We ever had some leftovers. Good amount of shrimp and veggies inside. Quick and attentive service! And the worker's little son helped her bring the check for fun. It was adorable

Honestly, I want to gatekeep, but I love Samyan and the staff so much it's more important that they are known and have great business! This is one of the best Thai spots I've been to in NYC. Highly recommend the tom yum goong soup and crab fried rice. I have as yet to try to khao soi but I'm dying to! There are so many great things on the menu it makes ordering tough! They also offer lunch specials and happy hour! Tisha provides the most friendly and wonderful service -- she does it all and often takes care of everything all by herself! Cozy, quaint ambiance, amazing food and exceptional service. Samyan is a must-try!

So far so good! Tried out this relatively new Thai spot and was impressed with the bold flavors and attentive service. We sampled a few dishes, including the pork belly appetizer and crab curry. Everything was tasty and well spiced. Speaking of, Samyan actually offers Thai spicy level of spice, and I believe it! The medium here is more like a medium-high spice elsewhere-- cool. They have a terrific happy hour and pretty fresh flowers to go with the dim lighting. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon.

    Five Spices Pork Belly

Super cute new Thai place in Clinton Hill!! The place has a bit of an old school antique vibe, and it felt very calming to walk in. All the recommendations were delicious, and we had three of the dishes: Crab meat curry - incredible balance of flavors, and they give you a REALLY generous portion of meat! Five Spices Pork Belly - braised to a softness and tenderness that melts in your mouth, and the flavor is so deliciously cooked all the way through Tom Yum Goong - this dish comes in a traditional steamboat, and the sour flavor hits you immediately. I like a bit more milky texture, but still really enjoyed this!! Dessert - the coconut cream is no joke, it was garnished and decked out with nuts and jelly and all the textures worked so well together. They also have a mango ice cream available as well! Overall I loved my experience here - the service is so attentive and caring, and I really appreciate the care they have for each and every one of their dishes!

If u can handle the heat (spice) Get chicken wings!! I honestly wanted to inhale the whole plate n not share w/ BF Get the ground angus beef w/ egg! Popping the egg over rice was so satisfying. The whole dish is rice annihilator! Can probably eat 2 bowls of white rice per person. Bell peppers do not overtake flavor of this dish (so many other Thai places let bell peppers rumble thru too much) Less spice - non spice Get the crab fried rice! (And this is coming from a crab hater) Impress ur seafood loving friends w/ this dish, u won't regret it. Get the chive appetizer~ love the bean sprouts and fluffy chive squares. Not on the sticky side. All the savory dishes we had were grease / oil-free. Plates were cleared and no excess oil to be found. U feel like u had a non-heavy meal.

Great Thai food and service. It is a new spot in the neighborhood. Wok chive is a vegan friendly Thai styled chive cake.

This place is a great new addition to Clinton Hill! Great tasting Thai food. Very cute, clean and warm. Enough vegetarian and pescatarian choices for us and of course plenty for carnivores. Service is quick as well. Everything tasted clean --not too oily or sauce y.

Our group of 4 started with a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a few appetizers to share, namely: Som tum papaya salad and dumplings curry. For the main entree, my eyes caught the attention of clay pot mix-fried rice with shrimp, chicken, sweet sausage, and my partner chose shrimp pad thai. Nothing really stood out with the dishes; I found it to be a bit Americanized, having eaten in so many Thai restaurants around New York City. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here; our food came in timely fashion, and the customer service is good as well, but it's probably not your place if you are seeking a more authentic Thai-style cooking.

Every single dish was fantastic and came with little chili sauces or garnishes or spicy sauce etc which brought the dishes together beautifully. The hostess was extremely friendly and kind and gave her recommendation as well. She said takeout would be 15 minutes (it would be hour long wait to dine in at 8pm on a Thursday night). They were absolutely packed despite the time. We ordered the pad see ew with shrimp, the crab fried rice (amazing), the Pak Mor which is a sweet and savory rice roll that comes with coconut cream dipping sauce (drool worthy), and last but not least the Kao Tom Haeng which also comes with a tasty broth on the side. I'd say that the pad see ew was the weakest dish of what we ordered but it was still tasty. I think it would have been nicer with a different protein, perhaps chicken or tofu. My friends and I have never dined in but the ambience looks very warm and inviting. If you love delicious and flavorful food then this is the place for you! Look no further!! Highly recommend!!!! PLEASE get the mango stick rice cocktail omg it was gone in like 5 sips because it was so good. The tuna ceviche was so refreshing and the sauce had a little kick to it which I absolutely loved! It was like a sprinkle of Thai on a classic tuna ceviche. Note the taro chips are a little thicker than a typical chip! The pork jowl wasn't as crispy as I expected but it was still flavorful and the portion size was huge, considering how it was an appetizer. We got pineapple lychee crispy duck, crab fried rice, and kana crispy pork over rice as our entree. ALL WERE SO GOOD! The curry for the pineapple lychee crispy duck was so creamy and flavorful, with the duck portion being huge and being the perfect texture. I loved that it was crispy and didn't get soggy fast in the curry. The crab fried rice was top tier as there were SO MANY HUGE CRAB PIECES!! You can definitely tell that it had flavors of seafood/crab.. they did not skimp out! And the kana crispy pork over rice was huge portion as well, but note that it was a big strong/saltier than the other dishes. For dessert, the pandan coconut pudding custard was SO yummy. Loved that every table had fresh flowers; you can tell they really care about the little details. We ordered quite a bit and honestly, everything was on point: · Lychee Thai Iced Tea & Yuzu Pop - both refreshing and not too sweet (huge plus for me since I don't have a big sweet tooth). · Moo Ping - solid start to the meal. · Salmon Mango (GF) - the salmon was cooked through (which I asked for), and the mango salad underneath was light and tangy. The sweet fruit with the savory fish worked way better than I expected. · Pineapple Fried Rice - came with shrimp, nice wok aroma, and that perfect sweet-tangy pineapple kick. · Pineapple Lychee Crispy Duck (GF) - duck skin was nice and crispy, and the coconut-based sauce with lychee and pineapple kept it from feeling heavy or greasy. · Branzino Chili Lime (GF) - came out piping hot, classic Thai-style sour broth that paired perfectly with the fish. No fishy taste at all, and the texture was tender. Even the drinks and dessert weren't overly sweet, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, really enjoyed the meal here -- flavors are solid, service was friendly, and you can feel the effort they put into the experience. Definitely coming back!

My partner was running late, and even though the place is clearly very popular right now, they still accommodated us with a table. The staff explained every unfamiliar dish we asked about, always with a smile. I usually avoid the standard NYC Thai restaurant lineup of pad thai + generic curry situations and look for places that feel more regional and authentic. The menu here had a bunch of dishes I didn't recognize, which immediately made me excited. They even have a spice guide though the icons don't necessarily mean increasing spice levels. As I understood it, different symbols represent different types of heat. Three chili emojis and three meteor emojis may be equally spicy, but they hit differently. They recommended not to order the pad krapow nuer, and honestly, fair enough. Instead, we got the chicken khao soi, which was far better than versions I've had elsewhere - deeply flavorful, spicy, rich with umami. My partner was crying. I, meanwhile, was at "this is perfect and I'm having a great time." One Huge chunk of chicken cooked exactly right. Mix everything thoroughly before eating. Then came the kua kling which arrived with another warning. That dish became my personal challenge to impress the server, and apparently I succeeded because now they've promised that next time they won't discourage me from ordering the nuer. They kept refilling cabbage and cucumber for us to cool down from the heat. The kua kling itself was incredible. That dry curry heat was everything. It builds slowly, then suddenly punches you in the face - but alongside all that spice is an insane amount of flavor. They also recommended to order a non-spicy side dish to have a balanced meal and spice level, but we skipped it because it would've been too much food. Honestly, this is the kind of place where going with at least four people is ideal so you can try more dishes and balance the spice levels. And if you're unsure what to order, trust the servers - their recommendations were spot on. Also: really great ciders and beers. We were really happy with both choices. Overall, even though it's far from the city for me, I'd absolutely go back.

The restaurant is tiny, so be sure to make a reservation. As a lover of spicy food, the spiciness in the dishes really brought out such a great flavor. Since my friend didn't eat as spicy, we found a happy medium getting just slightly spicy dishes which were all fantastic. We ordered the Khao Soi ($33) and Pla Tod Nam Pla ($40). The khao soi wasn't too spicy, especially since the broth has a creaminess and the spicies are on the side before mixing, which you can exclude. The chicken was so tender, but did come with bone so this can be trickier to share. Then the pla tod really surprised me, but I can definitely see why it's the best seller. It is a fried branzino with a marinated fish sauce which goes so nicely with all the crunch. There are a few remaining pieces of bone, so be careful. The fish had a nice balance of fish meat and crunchy skin. If you're looking for a unique Thai spot, this is it. Also, perfect spot for spicy lovers too. They also offer a huge selection of alcohol.
