Can't go wrong when you use Stumptown! This is one of the tiniest, most unusual coffee shop you'll ever go to. They have free wifi & plug ins for your laptop or netbook, the french press coffee is GREAT. They have coffee drinks where the foam overloads & flows all AROUND the cup! SO cool, I've never seen anything like this. My boyfriend calls this the "little coffee shop on stilts". Yeah they now have extension shops or "satellite" branches (haha) such as the one inside Masa & they're all great. This is the original though, and kookiest! Bonus is they are right across the street from Wright Park! Second bonus is you can walk from here to Stadium Thriftway grocery store. read more

I drove past this place a few times, until i finally found out that a) they have stumptown b) they can actually do a remarkably good espresso pull and the final kicker: they know how to foam milk. I don't even have to drive to Seattle anymore to get a decent double espresso or a latte. If i rated the coffee, it would be 5 stars, but the microscopic size of the coffee shop is exaggerated by a culture of coffee shop squatters. You know the type, 6 people taking the only 6 usable seats in the shop, playing Words with Friends on iPads with not one coffee or food sitting on the table. My friend had been telling me that he would take me here for years. He says this is the best place for coffee in Tacoma. And when he finally did, I was pleased. I stopped drinking coffee and switched to tea two years ago, but I had a latte anyway. It was yummy, but I wish I would've had the chai he had. It was a cute place. I'm not in Tacoma all that often, but I think I've found my go-to cafe when I am. This place is tiny; there's barely any seating on the inside, but they do have a great deck outside--perfect for the bright, sunny day that we were there. The decor is quirky without being cloying. This place has a very neighborhood-feel, with a clientele ranging from vintage-styled hipsters to grandpas in their orthopedic walking shoes. They brew some excellent Stumptown French press here, which they offer for $1 during happy hour. If you're not a coffee drinker, they also carry this amazing local fruit juice. I forget the company, but it's from a company Renton. Their lemonade is amazing, very tart and refreshing--perfect for a summer day. They also have a parking lot--mega-bonus for any business in the city. read more

Any talk of Stumptown and you know it is going to be good. Don't be put off by the hipster vibe and coffee snobs, it is worth it! I have been to the 6th location, Division, the Children's Museum and the previous Market Street location. You will receive an excellent cup of coffee by a knowledgeable barista. However, you must know this is not a one-button Starbuck's Coffee machine. Your coffee will come out in a reasonable time but this is not fast coffee. I personally enjoy that they carry locally sourced coffee, drinks and snacks. At the museum I have purchased sandwiches made by STINK! Get there and drink a cup of anything. read more

Cosmonaut coffee used to be Satellite but they changed the name as there are two in the same hood bearing that name. The shop is in a nice location and kept very clean. The folks here are friendly and serious about what they do. They serve Stumptown which IMO is not the best be the folks here do a good job with it all the same. read more

There are not many places that you can say the coffee is spot on and the customer service is the same. This is one of those places. I had a hair service scheduled next door at Supernova and stopped in with my hubby to grab a cuppa joe. We inadvertently ran into the owner and one of the employees in the parking lot. He was friendly and just straight awesome. The best part comes when we ordered our coffee. My husband ordered a mocha and I ordered a macchiato. His was not too sweet and wonderfully creamy and artfully poured. Mine was in a little ceramic cup and tasted like coffee flavored nectar of the gods. It was so smooth I almost gulped it down in one sip! I was able to restrain myself, just barely. They've definitely made a customer for life. We'll be coming back as often as possible! read more

Very funky coffee shop! I like how it is located on the corner and you take a short staircase and small door to enter the place. This place would be cool to chill during summer time out on the balcony. But the inside is very limited and is cramped. One Small bathroom and max 7 seatings. Coffee was good. I like this place and I LOVE Stumptown coffee, but the last couple times I was in there, I was served by a female that works there who acted as if I was causing her a serious inconvenience to make me a few shots of espresso. I have been helped by a young guy and the owner who were both really nice and super knowledgable, but this female who has been helping me recently is rather unpleasant and has been causing me to avoid my favorite coffee place in town. I would otherwise love to give them 4 or 5 stars! Update: I have updated to a 5 star review. Over the last year or so going to satellite (now cosmonaut) their service has increased by leaps and bounds. I regularly have excellent and often educational (with regards to coffee) conversations at that! The service and product are second to none in Tacoma. Well deserved 5 stars. read more

These folks make the BEST latte in Tacoma, hands down. It's simple. No fancy unicorn drinks and sparkly shit. They use high-quality coffee and milk, the baristas know what's up. I don't even sweeten it because I enjoy savoring the complex flavors in the coffee which includes a tiny hint of sweetness from the roast. Love the atmosphere, wonderful art and aesthetic for a small shop. Sadly that's the only redeeming feature. For a USSR themed coffee shop, it's surprisingly conservative. The decor was fun, but definitely not warm and inviting like the coffee chains. I wouldn't want to stay there and read or work on my computer. I had better experiences at other coffee shops. I've tried to like this place. All three visits have been mediocre at best. The owner thinks he is the only person in Washington state that knows how to make espresso. The barista was a friendly guy and self-proclaimed "coffee nerd". He backed this claim up by sharing his knowledge of different roasting techniques while demonstrating mastery on the espresso machine. But then I got the $5.50 bill for my 16 oz. Cosmonaut has gone through a few iterations over the years, but the coffee is consistently top notch. Maybe the center of the universe, maybe just the center of Tacoma - in any case, you are bound to run into a friend in this teeny little shop (even if it's a friend you've never met before). Yummy snacks and sweets, strong wifi, delicious cold brew and locally made chai for those not into the pour over scene, and great folks behind the counter. Definitely liked this place. The owner is a cool cat and the coffee is pretty darn awesome. I am a bit of a coffee snob and I think this is some of the best I have had. They served up a cortada that was really good. I usually go with a macchiato but they convinced me to go with the cortada and I was not disappointed. I ended up buying some beans from them and they are great as well. I will definitely go there again the next time I am in Tacoma. Great coffee and the little place has a cool vibe. Oh Satellite you compete with the Blackwater for my favorite Tacoma coffee shop. The days when you have that delicious chocolate cake you win by a landslide. Also, you serve Stumptown which takes me back to growing up in Portland when I first discovered the wonderfulness that is Stumptown. I wish your space was bigger but I realize that's not possible. This is the location across from Wright Park, not the one on 6th inside Masa, to be clear, and it's a great place to stop before or after your walk in the park or at the conservatory. I like mochas, and they are my favorite in town; my coffee enthusiast brother had valhalla, metronome, and satellite while he was in town and liked satellite's macchiato and espresso best.
