We went here for Sunday Brunch for my daughter's 21st birthday. Although it was a chilly 50 degrees, we wanted to eat outside on the deck bc of COVID & 3 of 5 of us having pre-existing conditions. The food was a 3 but the ambiance was a great so you argue it could be called a 4 star place. We really liked the location and the vibe of the room. Service was good, but food came out very slow. We had a couple of bottles of wine and the price and quality of wine was excellent (we had the Zin). We started out with garlic bread, which had a nice presentation. It's an assemble yourself warm loaf of french bread mostly sliced, a plate of olive oil with a balsamic drizzle, plus a hot garlic bulb you can pick from and spread. Kind of different, kind of good. For dinner I had the seared scallops (which had good comments here). The scallops were cooked perfectly, but the Thai curry was clear broth flavored with curry spice. They must have substituted coconut water for coconut milk as it had no body. So a near miss for me. My bride tried the veggie curry plate and same story, but again disappointing without the body, just a spicy broth. Price wasn't bad we spent about $70 for two dinners with a couple glasses of wine (no desert). Parking is tricky as your in a neighborhood and parking on the street. A small space behind the restaurant is available but fills fast. I would go back for the bar or to sit outside in the summer but the food was nothing to get excited about. read more

The only reason this isn't a one star review is because I've been to cosmos numerous times before and always had a great experience. Last night was not that. It took about 25 minutes to get our drinks because the soda gun upstairs was broken and our server said she had to walk downstairs. I worked in a 2 story restaurant in college where the entire kitchen was on a different floor, that is not a reason to not get our drinks promptly. Next we made our order, my mom and I both got chicken pot pies because that is the best thing on the menu. Honestly the main reason I come here. We weren't really in a hurry but had plans later so we placed our entree order with our appetizers. We get our appetizers and about 30 minutes later the server tells us she forgot to send our entrees through. We have been here an hour at this point. She then informs us that the tables she sat AFTER us and ordered AFTER us ordered the last 2 chicken pot pies(hadn't been served yet)...that we had already ordered, that she forgot to put through. She informed us that we would need to pick out new entrees. The risotto my mom and I shared instead was honestly disgusting. I didn't eat. I have a 4 year degree in hospitality and worked as a server/bartender/manager for 10 years, the proper way to handle this would be to tell the table who ordered AFTER us that she made a mistake and that the chicken pot pies were already 86'd instead of further giving us a pretty bad service experience. We got our entrees about 40 minutes later. The spinach burger was also eh. Since she input the info incorrectly into the system instead of doing the orders by seats we had to mark who had what on the receipt. I know how these computer programs work, she was just being lazy when she put it into the system. No discount was offered or added for her incompetence. read more

The scallops are my favorite. Crispy seared on the top and bottom, with good sauces. Beef tenderloin with peppercorn sauce was OK. Mashed potatoes were good! Easy parking, nice wait staff, and no ghost sightings tonight. read more

I first came to Cosmos in 2013 with my bestie 'cause she lived down the street! We came for brunch and sat on their beautiful upstairs patio and discussed all of the gorgeous planters! We got silly with brunch cocktails and full of yummy food. Every time I visit my best friend in Kzoo, we always make it to Cosmos for brunch or dinner and Chef Stephen always wows us with seasonal, fresh delights! I'm only giving this place 2 stars because 1) It's nicely located in a residential area, so cute, quiet, easy parking. 2) Deck seating with umbrellas available, which is awesome when the weather's nice. 3) Staff were friendly. Otherwise, it took forever just to get anything, drinks and food. Wasn't that busy and still, they had issues with timing. They'd bring out little things at a time and it was like a tease more than anything. They didn't bring out everyone's food at the same time even though some of us ordered the same thing. Some wanted to wait for everyone's food to start eating. One we got our food, it wasn't anything spectacular. I could've made my egg dish a ton better, it was dry and tasteless. I asked for some salsa or hot sauce and even the salsa didn't really help that much. Let's just say almost the entire time we were there, we laughed about the service and how we could've gone to get some yummy Bagel Beanery bagels plus eaten them by the time we got our food here. read more

Really disappointed, we came here all the time years ago when my wife was at Western Recently returned with friends to an inexperienced staff that got our order wrong, when the error was realized the staff did not attempt to correct, just apologized. The food quality was not what we expected either. Used to be a place we would recommend, not anymore. It's a shame. read more

A surprising disappointment, with O'Duffy's being THE premiere Irish bar of Kalamazoo you'd expect the same quality and dedication in their breakfast realm. But your hopes are likely to be dashed. Though the food is fantastic, even with a limited menu, the staff seems to suffer from short term memory loss and even basic manners of serving, which is very surprising given the competition in the area. On one occasion it seems our table was completely forgotten, at last we just walked out after some 30 minutes of waiting to place our order, something I don't think I have ever done before. On another when asked if I could substitute a side, I was simply told "No". As if I were a child being chastised by its mother. With that I would also add that it does have a lot of potential, it's atmosphere is spot on, and the food is on the level of Food Dance, without the added cost. If they could just get a more rigorous training and/or hiring system down to fix such problems. read more

Funny! My fav dish at Cosmo's is also the Butternut Squash Lasagna. It is so darn good that I still miss it a lot after moving to TX. Cosmo is a gem of Kalamazoo, sometimes I wonder why are they there... The menu is innovative and tasty. Perfect for date or a few good girlfriends of yours. The small patio opens for summer and too bad Kzoo does not really have many days of summer. Ambient and small dining atmosphere. I hate giving one star reviews, I really do, but this place just isn't very good. Order screwed up. No flavor. Girlfriend had what amounted to English muffin with some guacamole smeared on it with and egg on top. Nothing spectacular at all. Had hoped for a solid backup for Crows Nest, but this isn't it. Guess we should have known by the fact that it was empty. Now the kicker... Took "half off" the bill because it was their mistake in making my meal... Half off something I wasn't going to eat. I feel bad writing a poor review of this place, because my girlfriend and her friend really like it. Basically, I thought it was just ok, and too expensive for what they give. We got a black bean burger and a pizza, then desert. The burger was ok; the bun was a sort of onion bun, the bean patty itself had an overpowering spice flavor to it. Most black bean burgers have that flavor, but on this one it was just too strong, didn't allow you to taste the rest of the toppings as much. The desert is the part that really made me dislike the restaurant. We got a chocolate pie and a peanut butter pie. They had this super hard crust that was impossible to cut through, and pieces of the pie just went flying as we tried to chop it with our forks (we didn't have knives, though I don't think it would have been any easier.) Basically, same quality food as burdicks, but double the price. I think there are a lot of better options in the same area. read more

Since moving to Kalamazoo years ago, I have been an infrequent customer of Cosmos. I probably visit there 2-3 times per year, and mostly stay in the pub called O'Duffy's for pub fare and drinks. O'Duffy's is a great little Irish style pub in the lower level of the restaurant. In my experience, the service here has always been stellar. Servers are warm and friendly, quick to accommodate, and never make mistakes. The only reasons that I am not a regular at the pub are because it is a bit of a distance from where I live, and because it is such an inviting environment it can be uncomfortably crowded at times. The problem that I have with this place is the food. I almost never order food when I am there hanging out with friends because it isn't just mediocre, it is terrible. Everything else about this place seems great, and I have tried to keep an open mind and give them several chances to change my mind, but every single time that I have left there, I have been hugely disappointed in my meal. In my opinion this is a great place to go for drinks. It has a great bar, and a great vibe in the place. Stick to the pub grub, and do not order food from Cosmos upstairs. Those who do not wander far from Crows Nest may not know about Cosmo's Cucina. This nook is tucked down Vine Street on top of O'Duffy's Pub. It's a self-proclaimed gathering of friends, and, with a farms-to-table approach, they craft creative dishes. Be prepared to shell out a bit of money if buying an entree. They're anywhere between $11.99 for the Spinach Feta Burger to more than $20 for platters of either lamb or duck. The restaurant's most common criticism is the relatively high prices for sparse food. Consider sharing a few appetizers with friends and split the bill. The goat cheese fritter was served hot alongside with blueberries and strawberries, and the Meat Pizza balanced its proscuitto with arugula. The beers on tap accompanied the dishes well: they offer plenty of options from Bell's to Arcadia and Dark Horse to Right Brain. The food comes out slowly, but it's worth the wait. The ciabatta that accompanied the Panzanella Salad was embellished with dried blueberries, which was a starter before digging into the green-red nest of heirloom tomatoes, roasted peppers, basil, and fresh mozzarella. They twisted the traditional gazpacho by adding blueberries, and the sweetness contrasted softly with the savory tomatoes and garlic flavors. It makes for a good date option, but it's casual enough both downstairs at O'Duffy's and up at the restaurant where food accompanies an IPA well. Their dishes complimented savory with sweetness, cheese with fruit, and meat with vegetables. Check in during different Holidays, because they'll tweak the menu for the season. read more

First time at Cosmo's Cucina, Had reservation for 6:45 pm. I got there a little early so I decided to have a drink in the Irish pub on the first floor, O'Duffy's Pub. O'Duffy's has a great atmosphere, very cozy, friendly locals, and reminiscent of a local pub located in a small northern British town. The variety of beers available on tap were very good. I chatted with a couple of locals who have be patrons every Saturday evening for over 8 years. I plan on returning to sample some of the pub food available. Up at Cosmo's I was seated promptly by very friendly host staff. I decided to go with one of the items on special, fresh sea scallops (5) each served on a different flavor of Heirloom tomato slice with (i think was) a balsamic reduction. It was also served with a very fresh Heirloom tomato Panzanella. The scallops were expertly cooked with beautiful caramelization and seasons perfectly. The scallop combined with the tang of the heirloom tomato and the sweet acidity of the reduction created an explosion of flavor. I very much enjoyed the meal. I will be back to try other items, I hope that the quality is consistent. read more

Great place for breakfast or brunch. This is the second time we are here. The food is very fresh and the service is quick and friendly. Its located above a bar so you need to go to the back of the building to get in. The restaurant is very open and inviting stain glass windows and brick wall very fun. We got a Bloody Mary and mimosa with our breakfast delicious. I would definitely go again maybe try the Belgian waffles. read more

We got to breakfast at Cucina's before ten am and never left until after 11:30. Our server just wasn't able to make our visit pleasant. After telling one guest in our party they had run out of the special she had ordered, and said guest asked to see the menu again. Server brought the menu but never came back to ask what she wanted. We had to ask her to take the order. We would have had patience and understanding of the place was packed, but it wasn't. Had to ask for the bill, had to ask her to take the bill with card. We observed another customer ask for salsa, and the server never acknowledged the customer overnight the salsa for about five minutes after receiving the food. On the brighter side, the food was unique and very good. Service really needs to improve before we visit again. read more

Made reservations over a month ago and was super excited to surprise my husband with a night out and dinner. Excitement quickly turned to disappointment. We waited over a half hour for our alcoholic beverages and almost an hour for our food. My husband and I were sure the food would be worth the wait but were disappointed yet again. I ordered the spinach burger and had to send it right back due to it being extremely burnt. My husbands sandwich was palatable but we noticed that it was unusually hot as if it were not fresh but instead microwaved for too long. Due to mishaps, the waitress comped our meals and we ended up only paying for our drinks. Had such high hopes for dinner. We will not be back! read more

We dined very early for Valentine's Day dinner because we had to be at an event @ 7pm. We told the waitress that immediately. We had no problem getting to our second stop on time. Great! We did notice what was happening around us, however. When we arrived the hostess/waitstaff that was there upon our arrival @ 5 pm worked alone until 5:30 when her 4 co-worker's arrived. Our waitress was now responsible for 5 tables of 2, and her co-workers were not into the teamwork thing that helps businesses run smoothly. I obviously don't know if this is the culture of the restaurant or if it is the waitress who didn't ask or give help when it was easy to see that it was needed. I started my dinner with the strawberry salad which was beautifully presented, and tasty, but mine needed a bit more dressing. My husband had the cream of tomato soup which must have been great because he didn't share and he used bread so that no drop was left behind. I had the sea scallops which were done to perfection. There was no starch with this dish which seemed due to oversight, but the presentation was very thoughtfully laid out, so maybe there was no room. A flour tortilla might have done nicely considering there was avocado cream and a nice carrot slaw, similar to fish tacos. He had the halibut. It also was well presented with a side of tortellini, and was prepared perfectly. I am often disappointed at this restaurant because of the service, which makes it difficult to return even when the food is so good. read more

I had my first brunch at Cosmos recently, and I can't say that I was impressed. The wait staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant, but the meal was disappointing. The meal, the breakfast special with sausage, was $6.99 ($4.99 without the sausage). The meal included two eggs, redskin potato, and toast. For the price, I was disappointed by the both the serving size and the preparation. When I eat brunch, I expect it to cover my entire plate. Instead, I felt like more plate was showing than food. The three sausage links I got were burnt, while the redskin potatoes were over seasoned and a tad undercooked. The toast wasn't great either. Cosmos doesn't serve white bread, much to my surprise, so I had to settle with a baguette-type bread. There is one positive thing I'll say: the coffee was damn good. Overall, Cosmos is a nice little place in the Vine neighborhood, but I'll eat somewhere else next time. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend today. Maybe we caught them on an off day. We had a reservation at 12. We arrived and sounded like they had to move someone else to make space for us and had to wait for longer than we should have. Seemed to be confusion over who was seated and who still needed to be- which I found odd. What was most disappointing was waiting an hour for our food after ordering. Food was ok. Just seemed really unorganized and not managed well. Staff dropped things multiple times outside. Thankfully just dirty dishes and not someone's food that finally came out. I kind of felt bad for everyone. My friend and I had talked about how good their dinner menu looked online. Based on today's experience though, I have a hard time imagining them running a busy dinner time service. On the plus side, the atmosphere is nice. One of the best brunch spots in Kalamazoo. When the weather is nice, they open up the patio area. Drinking a bloody mary + enjoying some quality food + sun shining on your face = perfection! I went with some friends for my Birthday. The service was fine, and it was a very quaint place. My problem was with the food. I had the tortellini with mushroom sauce. The tortellini were small and there were more mushrooms then anything. It was in a small bowl and maybe half full. This probably would have been filling if we had gotten a small salad or bread. It didn't come with anything. I could have made the same thing at home and it would have tasted better. We tried the blueberry-lemon cake for dessert. nothing great and dry. I gave 2 stars because the service was good and it was pretty inside. I will not be coming back or recommending it to anyone. read more

We just had a lovely brunch that included eggs Beni oatmeal and plenty of fresh fruit. Everything was beautifully plated, the service friendly and prompt. The building is adorable and creatively decorated ( don't miss the ceiling in the ladies room). I usually go to the pub: it is wonderful little old neighbor pub ambiance, sometimes bit noisy for conversation, $3 pint beer. Beautiful antique bar. Great out door in summer. Restaurant has fine food but bit overpriced. Just down the hill from the Kalamazoo landmark The Historic East Hall ( best sunset and night view of Kalamazoo after or before you eat). 5 stars for O'duffy's pub, 3&1/2 for Cosmo's read more

What a joke!! When the order was taken I started my timer, everywhere when I dine out I time. Only 1 other table with 3 in the restaurant, I was craving bacon and ordered the Double BLT......17 minute and 38 seconds later I got it, mouth watering. Bacon was sitting in bacon fat from breakfast and in about 100 little pieces, it was the bacon grease that soaked into the crust that just made me want to vomit. Gave it back to waitresses and the young man who may have been in chanter walked over and apologized ( make it sincere next time, but won't be a next time)he is going to check and see why there is so much grease on the sandwich. Yuck!! I would have went back down to JW Marriott in GR for lunch before I left there. read more
