I don't know if management has changed. What a difference. There was only 1 person working the front until she went to the back and got someone since DoorDash was also waiting. Usually employees greet customers as they walk in, nope. Usually employees try to have a conversation with you, nope. My server did not even make eye contact, when asking /pointing out which items I would like. 2 people working the front with door dash coming in, has never been the case at that store. The portion sizes were small, even though there was a scale right next to the meats. Music usually is uplifting or maybe it was the volume turned down. We are preferencing our rating and review with 'the jury is still out'. If you've ever wanted to be able to customize your Mexican meal then this is the place the you! They have all the standard Mexican meal choices, but that's where comparison ends. Like Chipotle, you get in line to place your order. Let them know what your item of choice - enchilada, quesadilla, taco, burrito, etc. Then pick your protein of choice (and there are lots of choices) and sauce (3 or 4 choices if we recall correctly) and they assemble and put through the oven or quick grill your items. Next you pick your toppings and let them know if want beans & rice for an entree or ala cart. No skimping We didn't realize how much we like more traditional Mexican restaurant fare so this is where our 'jury is still out' for us. The place was interesting, plenty of customers coming & going over the lunch hour. The staff and owner are very nice & accommodating and a nice touch with families with babies/toddlers they have what you need in the bathroom. They look to have a good patio for a good weather day. I hope you are like us and look at several reviews to determine if a place is for you. If we were ever in the area again, we might try again but with a different order. But my brother convinced me to go Saturday morning, and I'm now a Costa Vida believer! I had the small taco salad with refried beans, and I enjoyed how the beans were flavored with taco seasoning. The greens were fresh, as were the tomatoes, and I liked the tomatillo ranch that came with the salad. The cinnamon tortilla was a pass. Was it the best food I've ever had? I've been going to this place for years and it never disappoints. I love and highly recommend the raspberry chipotle chicken burrito or salad! I always get them with the pinto beans, and raspberry sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pico on top but you can pick your toppings and sauces the way you like it. Great food on their worst of days! If you've ever been around Southern California and gone to a Cafe Rio, that is what Costa Vida is with a delicious side of queso! The staff were very friendly and inviting which made first time ordering a breeze, my wife and I were in and out of there with our to-go order in just a few minutes. There is a really neat wave decoration separating the line from the sit down area which I found enjoyable to view when I did. When it comes to the food, this place has it down! Enchiladas are always a safe bet, I'll definitely be back for a burrito soon! Their raspberry chipotle chicken is something I was hesitant on but the sauce it comes with is surprisingly much better than I could ever imagine. I've been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. Food is great, the vibe unique and is in one of the OG strips of the aging part of Lee's Summit. If I go for cheaper lunch, I usually just get the chicken tortilla soup, which is good but I don't recommend the cheese as it gets to stringy, changes the texture and makes it harder to eat without making a mess. If I go in for an entrée, I get the sweet pork tacos or burrito, black beans, cilantro rice and a cinnamon sugar tortilla for dessert. Every time I go there something is inconsistent with previous visits. The meat portions are ridiculous 13 for a burrito or bowl and you get four oz of meat. This time they're apparently portioning the rice as well. Last time I ordered double meat and they proceeded to charge me for two extra meats. Common sense would tell you one portion of meat is included in the original order price then you charge me once for the added meat which I was fine with. When I said something they looked at me like I was stupid. So I just said oh well and paid twenty dollars for a bowl not wanting to argue. Now this time they apparently they charge for getting the avocado ranch instead of their other sauces I'm not a fan of. Which I've never been charged extra for. I'm over it, today was my last visit! Costa Vida is SOOO underrated! Their sweet pork is amazing and the amount of delicious sauces they have is the absolute best! If you like Chipotle at all you'll LOVE Costa Vida! Service is always great and burritos are made fast. Sometimes I still get crazy looks when I keep adding more and more sauce but I love that I can basically drown my burrito in deliciousness and have enough food for at least two whole meals! My kids love their quesadillas and my husband loves their nachos if a burrito isn't your thing. I hope some day soon there's a Costa Vida even closer to me! read more

I like this place. We were in Lee's Summit,and I decided to stop.it's much like Chipolte's, but the service is top notch. The employees were so polite. The line was long and slow, and they ran out of chicken. But they refilled it. I had a chicken burrito. But there's enchiladas, tacos, taco salad, nachos, taco salads. My mom was with me,and she had a taco. The tacos have shredded beef, and it didn't look appetizing. Frankly,I'd never order a taco in one of these places. I tried to sway her, but it didn't work this time. The burrito I had was really good .I had them put the mild sauce on it, and paid a little extra for guac. Everything was fresh and the produce-lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, was bright and they were slicing lettuce as I went trough the line. I'm not in this area often, but I'll stop in again, for enchiladas. I eat at Chipolte's, and there's several other places where you order in the same manner. The inside is decorated with surfboards on the ceiling. It's in a charming strip mall, and was highly populated. Great area. It's next to a self serve yogurt shop. read more

I like the food here. It's not gourmet, it's fast food. My only issue is the menu doesn't match what is available when you actually get in line and customize your meal. For example, when we went to order, sliced steak was not on the menu board when you're standing in line and looking at options before it's your turn, but it was available as a protein choice. Little things Iike that. Except with Costa Vida there are a bunch of small things that makes customizing an order on the spot confusing and frustrating. Compound that by trying to eat out as a family, plus having several people behind us in line and it's just overall an unpleasant experience. We have, however, ordered online and picked up food to go before and that seems to be a better process. The thing that sucks about that though is when I went to pick up food they just have it all sitting on the counter and they don't verify who's picking it up, so anyone could just walk in there and swipe other people's food. I'm just saying, at least have some processes in place to prevent that. read more

Costa Vida has Chipotle vibes but in my opinion, much better. The service was really quick for a Saturday night. I always get the raspberry chipotle chicken, I've gotten the salad and burrito in the past but was really hungry tonight so I opted for the burrito. I got the raspberry chipotle sauce in the burrito and on top! The portions are a decent size and I had left overs to take home with me. They offer a lot of sides, but I just chose lettuce for mine. I have tried their tacos and burritos they are not bad...don't really come here for anything other than when they have chile verde though.(I'm a cafe rio fan but the midwest doesn't have cafe rio yet) I love their chile verde. I hate to do it, but Costa Vida, you are not that good. I watched the little flyers show up at my door late last year, advertising a fresh new Mexican place opening up around the corner. To my surprise, they even advertised making their own tortillas! What could go wrong, right? The restaurant itself is nice. Fresh, pretty clean, a nice water feature between the counter and seating. It took me a second to find their menus, though, which are located on 3 screens at the far end of the counter. What struck me as odd, was the text on the screens was small, and I found myself having to be almost right next to it (and blocking the ordering line, mind you) to read it. Right away, having pressure put on me to quickly find what I want on a large menu, while customers queue up behind me and wait, is not something I was expecting. Their prices are...steep. It's $4.99 for a single taco. SINGLE, ONE, UNO. I've eaten at a multitude of taco places over the years, and this is by far the most I've ever seen charged for a taco. I decided to go for a daily special, a burrito for $5.99, and chose the sweet pork for my protein. If only I had known my mistake before I paid. The sweet pork is SWEET. VERY SWEET. Cloyingly sweet. I couldn't taste the pork, and hardly tasted any other ingredients over the sweetness. Oh, and my tortilla wasn't "made fresh" it was pulled from a stack of stuck together ones, and put on the same warming machine as other burrito places. One thing you should know before ordering a burrito; it will possibly be poorly rolled, falling apart, and placed in an aluminum take out container (ya know, the kind you get from the pizza place when you order a pasta dish). The gentelman assembling my burrito happened to drop half of my rice/beans/sauce out the bottom while trying to roll it. I was then asked if I wanted it "smothered" (his english wasn't great, took me a few times to realize what he was asking) or covered in cheese and sauce. I said no, and my burrito was placed on a quiznos-esque conveyor oven. Everything about this burrito was...meh. Unremarkable, overly sweet, no spice. I felt immediate buyers remorse when I paid for it. I have NEVER felt this way about purchasing food. It was like I just bought a cheap knock off of a burrito I could have gotten 2 blocks down at Chipolte (and had a better meal). On principal, I forced myself to eat more than a couple bites, and made it half way before I felt sick, and stopped. Pretty sad, as I was hoping for a nice place, fresh tortillas, and Mexican flavors. Instead I got a snazzy lobby, gummy tortillas, and an abundance of sweetness. read more
