I have always liked Costa Vida. However the one on Richfield is ridiculous. They weigh their meat and if it is a fraction off they take some off pinch by pinch. It iis frustrating as a customer watching them do that when you get such a small portion of meat anyway. Probably the worst "Mexican" food I've had after a joint in TN that put plain chicken on a tortilla and called it a pollo asada taco..... I asked for a bowl and was told they were out of rice "but I can scoop more beans in the bowl"..... So you want to give me a bowl filled with beans and some cheese on top? They were out of rice, pico, steak, and chicken. I asked for a shredded beef burrito and he pulled the tongs out and barely got about a tablespoon of meat from the container before they were out of that, too. The lettuce they put on the side looked like someone chewed it instead of slicing it up. We also got cheese enchiladas since a place called Costa Vida apparently has no seafood options for pescatarians. They put cheese inside and on top and put the plate thing in the oven. We got back to the hotel across the street and the cheese inside was still cold and lifeless. I had to run out to the car and when I came back in the room had a district cafeteria smell to it. Sadly I was not a huge fan of Costa Vida. I had it while I was traveling. It can compare to cafe rio except the flavors are off. The service was okay but we had such an unpleasant time eating the food. Have you ever felt like you were only eating something just because you bought it and didn't want to waste money? Well that's how we felt we were not into any of the food we purchased but we were hungry and didn't want to waste anymore money. My first time to Costa Vida Fresh. And I will be coming back more often! I tried a sweet pork burrito and a Baja bowl. the Sweet Port was good, moist and tasty (but I'll stick to the grilled chicken - too sweet for my taste). This is a rare 5-star from me, and it is NOT because the food was exceptional. My family are moving east, and being cooped up for 600 miles so far, we just wanted something to eat and we stopped at this restaurant. We enjoy Mexican food, make it often at home, and expected nothing special from this unknown restaurant. So I will tell you that the wet burrito and the tacos were okay. This food does not rank very high on my all-time Mexican food experience. But this was undoubtedly an exceptional example of superb customer service. That is why I'm giving it five stars. The shift supervisor is named Stillman. I believe that is his last name. He was the most conscientious young man I have seen in the fast food line in many years. When he heard us request corn tortillas for my children and my wife, he asked if it was a gluten allergy or a preference. That question alone is rare. My wife and my children are celiacs; gluten-free options are not a fashion choice for my family. Once this young man saw that we could not have weed, he removed his gloves, washed his hands, clear the area, and specially prepared corn tortillas not just for the tacos, but also made a special effort to prepare fried tortilla dessert for my children which they do not normally offer on their menu. So in the end, it's just food, and we should all relax if it isn't perfect. But great service is a different matter. I've had days were my service - in whatever capacity I'm offering it - is subpar. I think we all cry louder when we're unhappy than we do when pleased. But when I left this place and thanked the young man, all I could think was that if everybody gave service like that, flavor would be the last thing to worry about. The hard work people give one another in the commerce of day-to-day should be what we would hold onto tightly. I hope this young man, and the rest of the very polite staff - and their supervisors who make the real money - know that this family appreciated what was done yesterday. Thank you for being the beacon of excellence in an economy of fast-food workers who are often poorly trained, poorly paid, generally grumpy, & slipshod in their service. Do not come here if you are being Covid conscious! I came here and saw more than half of the crowded restaurant were people not wearing masks at all and the other half were wearing masks but not covering their nose. When we inquired about the mask policy, the restaurant said they can't require them. But they have a sign on their front door that says verbatim that they do require masks. I know that restaurants are doing their best, but if you aren't going to enforce that, you shouldn't have a sign saying they are required. Also, two out of the three orders my family got were incorrect. I ordered chicken and ended up with pork and my family member got the wrong tacos. I had a grilled chicken salad last night on top of a fresh made tortilla with only fresh vegetables- dressing on the side - it was delicious! Remember, I am a food snob and a light eater! I have never seen people move so slowly. There is no sense of urgency with the people serving up the food even though the line was all the way back to the door. All of the tables were dirty as well. The whole time we were there in line and eating our food there wasn't a single person that walked out to clean the tables. Definitely not a sanitary place to eat during COVID. Our chicken nachos had chicken that was burnt to the point that it was jerky. Other than that the food was pretty good--just like any other Costa Vida. Unfortunately, I was not thrilled with my visit to this Costa Vida. My family and I showed up to grab a bite on the way up to Provo. The restaurant layout and atmosphere was pretty cool. But once I got to the beginning of the food line, I saw that the sauces and pinto beans were dried and had a layer of crust on top. Someone had forgotten to stir the sauces and beans to keep them from drying out and crusting over. The service was done with a smile, which I appreciate. However, I asked for a burrito. Suddenly, without being asked, my burrito was smothered in sauce and covered with a layer of cheese that was thicck (with two "C"s). That didn't necessarily bother me. But my burrito went from probably 700/750 calories to 1,300/1,400 calories in a second. Then I asked for some lettuce on the side. The lettuce bin was near empty. So, instead of getting another tub of lettuce, the server (who was very kind) only put about 10 shreds of lettuce on. As if it was coming out of this persons paycheck. I asked for a little more lettuce. Another 5 strips of lettuce were added and then a second pinch of 5 strips. Wow. My old man then asked for some lettuce as well. Same thing happened. He said, "I'm sorry but I'm going to need more lettuce than that." Then, the new tub of lettuce was FINALLY broken out and another server hooked us up with a lot of lettuce. Richfield is a small town with not a lot of options and after a 21hr drive with only 3 hrs left to go I was ready for some sleep and real food. Conveniently placed right across the street from my hotel not even a minute walk and after swimming for two hours I was dying of hunger. The best thing out of my meal Was the chips and salsa not worth the money I don't understand how a burrito could look so good and be so flavorless ??! The food is pretty good - about the same as a Qdoba - if a little overpriced. The staff were friendly and polite and the restaurant was clean. We were in and out in under an hour. Well as they go through the motions 3 people behind me order steak as well, which makes you wonder, if it is so popular, why would you let yourself run out? Well, anyway I get my food, pay and proceed to the dining area where it was literally like playing musical chairs while I and the family in front of me went chair to chair and table to table looking for a spot to eat that didn't look like some family with a set of 2 year old quintuplets sat there and had zero control over their hell babies, now, don't get me wrong I like kids but it looked like someone had a food fight in this place. Now, not sure why one of the 11 people working was unable to wipe down tables today (maybe the counter and table wiper was off today?) but with so many employees standing around getting in the way of those that were actually working, maybe they had to get extra help from a staffing service today, no judgement, just saying it as I see it. Well after beginning to "enjoy" my dried out food in a fresh shell I realize I was eating chicken and not the pork I ordered. Ok fine, it's old, chewy and dry but at this point whatever. The food here is good but that is not enough to come back again. I am very picky when it comes to restaurant cleanliness. I really don't know how they pass health inspections. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the floors were. Almost all the tables were messy from customers using them but no one cleaning them up. It would be one thing if the place was packed, but it wasn't when I came in. A couple customers in line. A couple tables with customers. The place was really dirty but the staff was just hanging around in the back. I could see 3 or 4 of them just standing there talking and looking at their phones. What a lovely surprise of fresh veggies in what's otherwise a food desert! I arrived just as they were closing so they were out of shrimp and guac, but the 2 tacos I got were pretty awesome. They took the time to grill the flour tortillas, melting the cheese onto them before adding toppings. A grilled flour tortilla and melty cheese elevate anything else paired with them, but the veggies were fresh and crisp and the proteins tasty. I would be ordering a 3rd taco right now instead of writing this review if they weren't closed :( Will miss these tacos! read more
