This location gets super busy on the weekends, try coming on a weekday if you can. Yes, it's way too crowded with rude people and a bit far of a drive from Jersey City. But they have stuff you just can't get anywhere else. Or stuff that is priced way better than anywhere else. Favorite items include: Dried mango pieces, wild caught salmon, Organic tortilla chips, box of apple-pears, 5-lb bag of organic carrots (for my husband's juicer), spinach artichoke dip and Manchego cheese. All of the Costco brand Kirkland Farms stuff is really good. Also a good place to go for a big electronics purchase! read more

The logistics to get into the parking lot and the gas station of this specific Costco location are perplexing. I suppose we can blame it on poor design of the exterior and interior of the store. Parking is a nightmare, forget trying to access the gas station the lines are ridiculous. I wanted to turn around and leave. I have to say that i have visited costco stores in Long Island, NYC, Florida, Georgia and NJ and i would have to rate the design of ths store as very poor. When i got in to the store passed the entrance where the jewelry is located, i felt loss. The staff that handles the tasting carts around the store was not engaging and did a very poor job at making sure the sample trays were refilled. Almost every sampling station had a line and people were waiting on samples to be available. If i lived in the area and this was my local costco, i would have ceased and revoked my membership years ago. I am proud to say that i am a costco member for at least 15 yrs. Thankfully, i have seen and traveled around the east coast to find exceptional costco stores with top notch service, ample parking and better situated parking than this store. I actually feel sorry for those that have to come to this store. Anyways, i did my shopping and $251 later I said, i am not ever coming back here. I did notice items that were not available at my local costco in Queens / Long island area so that was a plus. -1 star for parking lot and location entrance from mall to store. - 2 stars for lack of engaging staff, plenty of empty sample stations with staff that was not friendly or engaging about the product they were selling. -1 Gas station line was out of thofparking lot and around the corner. People were even making turns into a Do Not Enter Sign road to cheat getting into the line and none of the staff did anything to fix it. Costco has a great business and product but this location is one of my least favorites. My largest complaint is with regards to the pharmacy, which on multiple occasions communicated the incorrect day requiring an additional trip. The latest occasion they called two days in a row saying that they hadn't received the prescription, this after promising that it would arrive the next day. The store itself is clean and has all the typical Costco items. Most of the staff are quite busy and are friendly for the most part. As many other people have stated this is one of the busiest Costco locations I have ever visited and parking is horrendous. Flooded with people who don't know how to walk or drive a shopping cart, it seems like you are constantly dodging people almost running into you or having to move around the ones who walk at a snails pace and stand in the middle of a wide isle. For an annual $50 membership fee, I really make sure that I get my money's worth. I save $100s each year by shopping at Costco, especially when I'm hosting festivities. My family & I especially love their wild caught salmon, baguettes, pre-packaged salads, organic chicken, rotisserie chicken and rolled turkey wraps. There are some non-food items that we purchase from here too, but that's very far & few in between. I love their sample stands (aka "senior buffet"). It's odd that I never actually end up purchasing these items, but I LOVE doing my rounds sampling the goods while happily pushing my shopping cart. On the days when I still have room in my stomach after paying for my purchases, I then venture on to the food court area where I will take advantage of their $1.50 deal (gets you a HUGE hot dog and soft drink). The only con I can think of is the crowded parking lot on weekends. Other than that, I LOVE you, Costco. read more

Has a decent selection of stuff in general, but the lines can be awful. They have the cheapest gas in the area (sorry only AMEX is accepted - but you don't need a Costco card to get the gas), which also means that their lines are the most busy. They are currently going through some renovations, and have expanded their selection of pre-made food products. You can get some great discounts on products, but some things are not any cheaper than regular stores, and you have to buy a lot more of it. Just remember to buy with a grain of salt. Also, the store is pretty active about recruiting you to sign up for their "Executive member" program... 2% cash back on all purchases, but for a yearly membership cost of $110 instead of $55. read more

I have been a member of Costco and come to this location for many many years. Everything is fine, except a staff that I have encountered with many times at food court is a tragedy. I am not a person who likes to write out reviews, but this white old woman (picture below) is intolerable, worst worst staff I have ever encountered with. The attitude that she is giving me all the time is like she's a boss or something, and telling me what to do when I wait on the line. I have been ordering here for countless times and i never never have any issue with my orders when someone else takes my order. But it comes to you, you are the one who made the wrong food for me, but refused to change the right food for me and saying it's my problem?? are you serious? My husband and I have been loyal customers of Costco for years and love the Clifton, NJ staff. Everyone is friendly, professional and helpful. Which makes it a wonderful shopping experience. Last week (Oct.15), after shopping, we notice we had a flat tire. I called AAA motor club, who told us it would take 40 minutes. We waited. Thank God we had our Costco Cold Food bags to put meats and other cold item in 40 minutes passed. 2 Costco employees, Dorian Harris and Kevin Martinez notice us and asked if we needed help (10:40p). We show them the tire and what aaa said. They offered to help us. They helped us take purchased items out the trunk, remove spare tire and began to work on changing the tire. Kevin went to his car and go a tool to speed up the process. Once they changed the tire, they neatly returnd all parts and flat tire to proper place in trunk, returned all items back. We were relieved and grateful. Another example of the great workers at Costco. They care. I love you COSTCO!! read more

I love Costco and if you come to this store right when they open I would get it 5 stars but the reality is I rarely have the opportunity to come at that time. My biggest issue is with the traffic. The parking lot is poorly set up and the gas station is in the worst possible place. It should have been built close to the road instead of breaking up the parking lot. Also, the road to get in and out is horrible. There should be a one lane road to get in then another one lane road near the New York Sports Club to get out. That would help out with the traffic issue. read more

The optometrist and staff is excellent, but so sad you have to deal with rude, disinterested optical staff members. My friend, who is a member, drove me to this Costco and it was a nice diversion to get away from NYC for a change. I have never been to a Costco before and yes it is crowded and the check out lines seem endless. But all in all I think it is a great place. Everything comes in supersize quantity but the prices are better than my local markets in NYC and that is important to me now. I'm certainly not in the market for a new TV but I noticed that they give an extra year warrantee for free. Last time I bought one I paid alot for extended service. It is Costco, so great place to get many items. Since I am a conscious eater and avoid animal based products I eat lots of vegetables and the vegetables here are good quality and cheap if you are a three salad a day type like me. I actually like this Costco compared to the one I used to go to in Brooklyn. I love how the entire store is on one main floor. The one in Brooklyn had two floors, which was totally inconvenient for customers pushing their one ton carts around. I'm giving this place only 3 stars because of their FOOD SERVICE! Yes, their food service sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were short on staff so only one cashier guy was taking orders. I didn't know they only took cash so I called my boyfriend over quickly to give me cash...and this cashier guy tells me, " ...I don't have time for this...miss you have to go to another line to pay then." I'M Like...I GOT THE CASH YOU NEED TO RELAX.....and he actually said some shit back and im like wow HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They need to check that little boy cashier. 2 tips for the management of the Clifton, NJ Costco: 1. At the entrance to your warehouse, you have an employee who is tasked with checking to see if entering customers have their membership cards. If such an employee is going to engage in lengthy, idle conversations with people at that same entrance, that employee should have the common courtesy and brainpower to alert such people to NOT block the entrance of other customers who are there to shop and wish to make their way into your facility. It's so simple to do, folks. You want to avoid a potential confrontation here, especially with the congestion that often characterizes this Costco... and with that congestion comes differing temperaments and patience levels. 2. Upon exiting the warehouse: If you are going to have TWO employees checking customers' receipts, then you should train these employees to POLITELY guide exiting customers into forming two exit lines out (or one line for each employee checking receipts). Do not wait for a confrontation to occur between an employee and customer, because it is not a customer's job to train your employees on how to perform a job effectively. Again, high customer volume = different tolerances for certain things. Other Costco's handle these items correctly, so why does the Clifton, NJ Costco struggle with these basic items? I LOVE COSTCO. and I used to love going to this Costco in Clifton. Now I would definitely only go to their Wayne location. Everybody is a lot nicer, more relaxed in Wayne. In Clifton, not only they're rude in person, they're also rude on the phone. At the return line, when I asked for a receipt, a rep with long nail said "You're getting cash so there is no receipt." But I've alwasy gotten a receipt regardless. I should've asked for a manager but I didn't think about it at that moment. Dang it!! Couple weeks after that, I called to ask for lost-and-found. I wasn't expecting to find the item anyways so not finding it wasn't the big issue. The issue was their customer service (again). After I described the item, I was put on hold for 15 minutes while she's "looking for it." Okay, no problem, but when she came back and said she didn't see it, I tried to describe the item a little better, and got a loud "There's NOTHING in the lost-and-found box," she said. Seriously??? Did it really took you 15 minutes to look for something in an EMPTY box? read more

Today I experienced management at its worst... I had a very bad experience at the Costco in Clifton. I have many relatives and friends that are members at Clifton Costco.. So I was thinking about becoming a member... But just for today I wanted to do a courtesy buy because I am not a member. So ,Rob Mengas, approached me while i was walking ready to purchase some products... he said "May I help u" I explained that I wasn't a member yet but I will be... So I asked Rob Mengas if I can make a courtesy buy just for today... and that i would become a member soon. Without any hesitation he said " No!! you are not a member." I asked please this one time "He said Nope you are not a member" with an aggressive voice. Talk about poor customer service. he seemed to be confrontational and aggressive. A little earlier I needed a tire at the Tire center.. I had asked the same question to, Mike Wojick, as far as making a courtesy buy.. "He was very respectful and said No problem.. I'll help you but make sure you become a member..." Rob was respectful and Nice. Point is that, Rob Mengas, the assistant Manager over there was rude, aggressive and displayed horrible customer service unlike his counterpart Matt Wojick. So now I won't become a member and I will tell all my friends and family to discontinue their memberships and go to BJ's where I just joined a little while ago. Because of Rob Mengas, the assistant general manager, the Costco in Clifton will lose about 40-80 memberships. I work as a general manager in the fitness business and I also work in the music industry with many stars. They will all know how I was treated by Rob Mengas, and know to not do any business at the Costco in Clifton!! I told Rob that I knew, GM Mike freeman, and that one time Mike helped me and Rob said "I don't care about Mike Freeman, I'm the manager and boss today!! Mike left a little while ago he stated with an attitude. So to everyone who reads this, be careful with Assistant general manager, Rob menages. He is rude and does not display any great customer service skills!! On the other hand I recommend to all my family and friends that if you need any help with Tires or car service..
