So I am a walking contradiction! I really dont like shopping but I somewhat love costco. I love the prices, the abundance of groceries, the quality, the diamonds, the dairy. ALL of it! But I ONLY love the Mettawa location. I hate the Schaumburg and the Mt Prospect ones. Maybe because everybody and their mom is shopping while I am shopping. And that aint cool! Or maybe because the layout is different. Usually I make a list, I mentally prepare myself, plan the attack and I am always the first person in the door, which means that there are not many humans around. So this way I shop happily ever after, without anybody bothering me. You would think I am planing on to the dentist, thats how much I protest it. Actually I love Dr Galliani more then I love shopping. Souts honor! Needless to say this location is great! I know where everything is and that makes me happy. (well somewhat). I went to return Romaine lettuce per the CDC's recommendation, and the CSR gave me the stink eye. Made some comment about how they would never sell me anything that would make me sick, and "we're not gonna be able to put this back on the shelf to re-sell, so it's going to be thrown in the garbage". Since my last review, a few things have popped out at me. * The pizza. Not the take home and bake. Tried that and it's OK. But the pizza at the concession is an 18" for 10 bucks. Much better than expected and my go-to pizza place outside of the city. For some reason it is different than the take and bake in the grocery depot. They only offer three choices--cheese, pepperoni, and combo, but this is real good pizza--more like New York style. * The wine selection has become even better than before. There are some brands like Cameron-Hughes on occasion that never disappoint, and some Italian wines that would be twice the price elsewhere. Templeton Rye for $34! The best thing is that Jim, formerly of Lake Forest Food and Wine, is there part time, and he really knows his stuff. He directed me to a couple of Kirkland brands that I would never have tried without his expertise. I hope they bring him on full time. * Kirkland Organic Diced Tomatoes and the Tuscan Olive Oil--second to none. *The Torta Buns are outstanding as are the freshly baked baguettes. Tire center quoted me a one and a half hour wait time. It has now been three hours. When I came up to ask them whether they had finished, the mechanic said they hadn't even started yet. I would not have ever changed tires here had I known the real wait time. It is an absolutely unacceptable breach of customer service to flat out lie like this. I love me some Costco. It's dangerous that this place is so close to my office, because I'm always tempted to stop in and get a case of La Croix or a giant container of gummy bears or a pallet of Dunkin Donuts coffee beans...just because. Their meat department has higher quality meat than your average Jewel or Dominick's and the produce is at least grocery store quality, maybe better. Outside of the food, they have great deals on everything from camping equipment to tires for your car to gasoline that's 10-20 cents cheaper than a typical station. They also have great deals on services as well (home security, lawn maintenance, etc.). Oh, they have Two Brothers variety packs too, so I'm a fan. read more

Ok, c'mon it's Costco. What can I tell you that you wouldn't already know. Great prices on somethings but not on all. You should be an educated shopper when going here. Don't buy anything that will spoil if you don't think you can finish it. Love the samples! I do tend to prefer the Glenview location. Seems to have a slightly better selection. Also I really don't like the telephone prompts at this location. Nothing to press to just get customer service. If you press "0" you go to the general voice mail. I am a fan! A large selection of organic produce at great prices. The meat is very high quality and has a lot of great options. The cooked chickens are yummy. The bakery section has some delicious options. During the holidays there are awesome alcohol gift sets. Jack's salsa in the fresh refrigerator section is amazing, we especially enjoy the peach mango one. Periodically there are surprisingly good clothes sales, like down jackets, and quality wool sweaters. The checkout is friendly and goes by pretty quickly. Why sheeple shops here is beyond me. The place is a certified zoo, especially on weekends. The bulk prices don't mean inexpensive, but who cares. The propaganda works. And so is the perceived convenience. The checkout process is a nightmare on its own but my wife still comes here and drags me in with. The people who work here, especially on the register / check out do work extremely hard and when it gets to the zoo point of crowd, it is very stressful fir them. Many items that are sold here are priced at cost and serve as a loss leader, undercutting small businesses. read more

When I do find something I like they seem to stop carrying it. That part can be very frustrating cause they don't replace it with something like it. This is review about Costco pharmacy. I went to pick up my medication. I was told it will be ready in 15 min. I waited and waited, finally asked someone and it was already ready for pickup. I was the only customer waiting and I was waiting patiently in front of the pharmacy register. I didn't realize they don't tell you and its customer's responsibility to keep checking to see if medication is ready. When I was picking it up, I presented my coupon card, and was told that I should of given at drop off/check in. I did not know and I apologized. The lady took the coupon and explained how now she has to start over and huffed and puffed. I waited more, and apparently the coupon didn't go through so another lady named A****y called me to the window, then with upset voice she asked me "WHAT IS THE ISSUE! IS $20 COPAY IS TOO MUCH?" I was with my son at this time, and that was very inappropriate. I explained that the coupon card said I should have $0 copay. Then she started to tell another co-worker that she has 5 customers asking to pick up medication NOW and she was very upset. I felt horrible by then and I just wanted to go home. I usually go to CVS or Walgreen pharmacy for my medications but this particular medication they had in stock so that's why I went there. Perhaps Costco pharmacy runs different than other pharmacy. Perhaps I was supposed to call before I head over there? But regardless venting on the customer because she is busy is uncalled for. I thought about calling the corporation to complain but then if they hire staff like that probably they are all the same and I meant pharmacy department. Of course that will be the last time I'll be there in pharmacy. I paid $20 copay and when I looked, it said it will be $0 copay if I get 3 bottles of 30 days supply, well, Costco pharmacy gave me 1 bottle of 90 days supplies, no wonder coupon didn't work. It doesn't matter anymore, I am not going back there anyway. By the way, this is 2nd time making trip to Costco pharmacy. 1st time experience wasn't any better. All the staff acted like they didn't want to work there, I treated badly and they were all rude, nobody smiled. When I was paying copay for my med, the cashier told me how bad the medication was, and that's why manufacturers were giving discount so I can be hooked. I thought it was very inappropriate comment. I really didn't want to go back to Costco pharmacy but to get refill, I went... and I get treated bad again. I learned my lesson, these people will not change. I will not be going there again. I always had excellent Costco experience, the food court staffs are always friendly and so are the cashiers but Costco pharmacy ruined it all. Also gas station is awesome, staff always help me if I need any help. All wonderful people. After this Costco pharmacy experience I am not even sure if I will be renewing my membership anymore. read more

Here's what you need to know: At the end of the day, this is a Costco - the world's greatest retailer. Like every other Costco, this location takes care of its customers, has very friendly service, and a great product selection. This Costco in particular does a great job of stocking Indian Food. Yummm! It's impossible to rate any Costco less than 5 stars for their service alone. So I'll talk specifically to this location. Conveniently accessible off the interstate. Great gas prices (not all Costcos have gas stations) are always a draw to this Lake County location (sales and city taxes are lower than Cook county). The cafeteria is reliably good, and has the usual tasty pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, churos, salad, chicken bakes, ice cream, and smoothies. The store is bright and clean, associates are friendly, and things are easy to find. Don't go on a Sunday if you don't like crowds. Prices are good for what you get. The pre - made pizzas and Chicken Pot Pies are awesome..both regulars in our home. Sale prices are usually pretty good. We stock up on cereals when they go on sale, and have saved a ton just on those alone. Make sure when renewing/upgrading your membership that you are clear on the dates as to when it begins and expires. All in all, a great company and a well - run location! read more

HIT OR MISS? MISS!!!! So this has been brewing for a bit I have had several issues with this particular location. I travel often and do actually use other locations in different states. This one is certainly not "up to par". I'll start with the customer service/returns area is ALWAYS so over-crowded that there is no way I ever have time to wait in those lines. A few months back I purchased a bunch of items. I was given my receipt, then went to the food area to get lunch. While there I realized that the cashier had not given me back my card. (This was about three people ago) He had now done this to three customers, and someone had my card. He told me I had to go to that dreaded customer service counter. I was on lunch- no can do. I ended up calling the store talking to two different people who said they were managers. One finally agreed to just mail me (yes int the mail) a copy of my card. (That never happened). A few months went by where I didn't have a card and the lines were too long. Finally went in after work- waited forever to get a replacement card. Had to insist that they change my account number (Identity theft duh?) So last week I took the flyer they sent me in the mail with all of the sale items and purchased a bunch of them. I couldn't figure out why the signs didn't reflect the sale price? (It was a Monday and the sale doesn't start until Thursday) May want to get that mailing done better. Or put the dates in BOLD, or honor the sale prices if someone has the flyer with them? They insisted that I can just bring the receipt in and they will just credit the difference (again the dreaded line) BUT- I lost the receipt. I KNOW they can reprint the receipts. I called over there to make sure I would have no issue, and the guy who answered the phone insisted they cannot reprint receipts. Then read off of whatever "their policy" (Yep those are some great people skills you got. Please remove this guy from customer contact) Then asked if I wanted to be transferred to a manager. I told him "yes" as he was clearly unable to help me. Manager says come on in and just ask for me and I'll take care of it. They did take care of it. However, my friend was with me who I had shopped with the first time, and needed her prices adjusted too. Apparently she is more mindful than I am and had the receipt. The lady helping us was pleasant, but this is where it gets weird. She had the cash she was giving back to my friend, and instead of handing it to her, puts it down on top of a white binder on the counter? Hello customer service? Hand the person their money? Rude!!!!! THEN....after being in the store shopping my friend realizes the lady didn't give her card back to her- YEP- AGAIN! The dreaded counter. The lady had the card, knew we were still in the store and did NOTHING! USELESS. Had to wait AGAIN at the dreaded counter to get her card back. Next up the cafe were we ordered some sandwiches. AGAIN, my change was slapped on the counter instead of handed to me. It was interesting that both issues happened to both of us. I write very honest reviews. I write the details to explain my review. I may up it to two stars one the aftershock from this last trip wears off- or maybe I'll just drive twice as far to go to another location. The people here need some serious training. I know the planing took a while but once they started building, this place popped up fast! It was like steel girders one day and then blammoo...it's open. At the start, it was never that busy compared to other Costco's (this may not be the case now) so it wasn't a pain to shop here, you could be in and out in a snap. I have purchased multiple eyeglasses from Costco over the years and have found everyone in the Costco Optical department to be easily accessible and extremely accommodating. All employees in the group are hardworking and professional. On and off over the last 15 to 20 years I have been struggling to find the perfect contact lens with which I can see far, near and in between. A few months ago I booked an appointment at Costco for a vision exam. I ended being seen by Dr. Knobel who has been methodical, persistent and organized in her effort to find and fit the correct lenses for me. She listened and reacted to my trial lens feedback and made adjustments accordingly. I never felt I was bother because she truly seemed committed to accomplishing an optimal vision outcome on my behalf. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Knobel to anyone I know with vision needs. I now see signs posted in and around Costco clearly, read e-mails on my phone and literally drive out of the Costco parking lot seeing better than ever before. I went to the tire center yesterday, I had an appointment set for noon. I arrived at 11:40 to ensure I was there early and ready. When I got there they told me that the wait would be 3 hours at the most. So, I waited for my car to be finished. When 3:30 came around and I still hadn't heard anything I called and they told me my car was on the racks and would be done in 30-45 minutes. So, I again waited, at 4:40 I still hadn't been called so I called again and was told my car had not even been started on yet. So, I showed up at 5:15 (5 and a half hours since they originally received my car) and was told I needed sensors which they hadn't even mentioned I needed any of the earlier phone calls. This statement was followed up by a woman who had arrived at this tire center at 3:30 and come 5:30 she was getting in her car leaving and mine had not even been started on yet. Long story short, they quoted me on 3 hours at most and ended up having my car for 6 and a half hours, 5 of which it was just sitting in the parking lot - even though I had an appointment. Completely unacceptable and I am highly disappointed with the service of this Costco and as a result will not be returning nor recommending this to anyone. Very disappointed. read more

Member services is a hit or miss. "Hit" when they want something from you, like your money to renew your membership or apply for their credit card. "Miss" when you want something from them. I bought a computer 2 years ago and was promised when I bought the extended warranty that I was covered for 3 years after the manufactures warranty. I checked twice to make sure and was told the same thing. Sadly I was lied to and now I have no warranty that I paid $70 for because the warranty starts the same day you but it so it's really only a 2 year warranty what a joke. I call up and they won't stand behind it at all and I'm out by 3 months because of their lies. Be warned to but the warranty unless you like being screwed over read more

Our family only uses curbside pickup during this time to keep our family and others safe. Sams club and Whole Foods offer excellent solutions that have worked flawlessly but Costco's deal with Instacart is terrible especially during a time when the economic situation is as it is. This partnership has increased the cost per item as well as adding the delivery cost. As a result we have shifted more towards Sams and Whole foods. Please introduce a Curbside pickup option to keep the shoppers and employees safe and help reduce the financial burden on the public. A curbside option would reduce the number of people coming into contact with our food product as well as reduce the traffic in the store ultimately keeping us and employees safer. Other than that we prefer shopping at Costco it's just this Instacart arrangement is terrible. read more

I was completely takes back when the cashier abruptly informed me that the mum I was buying was a 4 pack and could not be sold individually. Today, I left my Costco membership in another wallet so I went to the membership customer service. I told the employee that I left my card and I need a provisional one after being in line for 15-20 mins. She was very rude to me telling me that I should use the app when I don't have my card. I didn't even know about the app and that I was able to use it as my membership card. I explained this to her. She kept complaining that she shouldn't be touching my ID. The Metawa Costco Tire Center is really bad as the reviews have pointed out!!! I had previously bougt four (4) Michelin tires here for our car and after 40,000 miles two of them wore out badly and uneven. The tire center person said that even though the Michelin warranty was for 60,000 miles, I broke the warranty because I did not rotate the tires every 6,000 miles. Which would mean I needed to have my tires rotated there around ten (10) times to be under warranty. Next, while I am waiting in the Costco store they call me and tell me that Costco will only replace all four (4) tires not two (2) since its a four wheel drive car and it would be unsafe otherwise. Also, they said that one tire was so bad that I should not drive on it at all. I was not willing to buy the four tires, as frankly I did not trust this place, so they change out the worst tire with a spare donut and tell me that I can drive on that for a long time, but just don't go over 50 mph. I suppose its much safer to drive on a donut spare than replacing two (2) bad tires?! I bought my tires from Cassidy and so far so good! The last time I was at the Metawa store to buy some groceries I noticed that there was not one car in the Tire Center and the Tire Center employees were helping in the main store checkout line. Costco is largely the same thing everywhere, with the only differences really being little tweaks - how the store is laid out, service, etc. I find this store a somewhat more enjoyable experience than the one in Glenview from the standpoint of the fact that the lot is a little less chaotic as the Costco is by itself here. The store's layout is a little more convenient, as well - easy loop around the store starting with produce in the back corner. The only issue that I have with this Costco - although it's like this at all of them, it seems - they've gotten WAY more aggressive about trying to upsell you if you have the basic membership. They do it while you're trying to check out and it's honestly kind of irritating. Costco, how about this: special Costco weekends for a month or one weekend every quarter. Create a set-up in the corner as people walk-in and the people can tell you how much the upgraded membership would benefit you (because they have scanners that can read your card and tell you how much you've spent, etc). If you sign up, 5% off your check-out that day only. I've been told that if you don't want to have them continually ask you about upgrading, to put a sticker over the barcode on your card or write do not upgrade on the back of the card. Again, Costco is wonderful, although some things are not quite as good a deal as others. I've noticed that some of the best deals can be found within the bulk goods (aluminum foil, detergent, soap, garbage bages, etc) and the bathroom/health/vitamin area. Costco's prepared foods are quite good, too. Lastly, this Costco is near some very pretty areas. Take Riverwoods Road (which runs by this Costco) South to a roundabout, then go East on Everett Road to Telegraph Road. Take Telegraph Rd South and you will eventually wind up in Deerfield. Telegraph Road goes through Bannockburn, which is absolutely gorgeous. read more

This is by a million miles the BEST Costco I have been to - you are lucky Mettawa! This was my local Costco and now I live in Montana (no, that isn't a typo). The Mettawa Costco has brighter lighting, a better layout, better and more frequent samples (kept my kids happy) and MUCH shorter lines than my new one and others I have been to. The wine guys were always very helpful and knowledgeable and the employes are nice. read more

We all know how hard everyone is having to work under the stress of Covid but there are several things recently at this Costco that are becoming a deal breaker for us as executive members. This is a warehouse where people go to buy things in bulk but more and more Costco is putting limits of one per item on multiple products. They have cut down on checkout staff as they have put in self serve checkouts. They no longer sanitize their checkout belts and checkout has become an increasing nightmare with them just throwing the food at the end of the counter and several times having no boxes to pack the food up with. Our average bill at Costco is usually $500-$600. We are in our seventies and don't want to visit Costco more than every two weeks because of Covid. This week my husband stood in the checkout line for 40 MINUTES. While he was waiting, a woman in front of him with a very full cart quietly pushed her cart to the side and walked out of the store. When my husband finally reached the checkout he had two packages of canned salmon and was told they were limiting the canned salmon to one per membership. This is not toilet paper or hand sanitizer but food, for which we are paying a membership fee with a benefit of buying more than one thing at a time. My husband stated that he had waited 40 minutes in line, could they please make an exception. The answer was no, the computer won't take it. I just received the ad flyer Starting December 25th with MULTIPLE products marked one only. Costco, either provide the ability to buy multiple products or suspend or lower your membership fees. You are not providing the value you are charging for. read more

Can't go wrong with the food here. Prices are as low as anywhere and the food actually taste good. $2 for a big piece of pizza, .59 cents for a fountain drink. Great spot to grab a quick lunch or a snack any other time of the day. read more
