I used to do almost all of my grocery shopping at Stop & Shop, but over the years, with more…read moreoptions becoming available, I've found myself shopping there less and less. With places like Market Basket, Dave's, and Big Y being more convenient alternatives, I just don't feel like Stop & Shop offers the same value that it used to. One of my biggest issues is the quality of the produce, especially the fruit. I've purchased fruit here that doesn't seem particularly fresh and often doesn't last more than a couple of days in the refrigerator, which I find unusual. When I'm paying higher grocery prices, I expect the quality to match. I also have concerns about some of the products they continue to carry. For example, I personally was uncomfortable seeing Driscoll's strawberries still being sold after the concerns and media coverage surrounding pesticide exposure and cancer risks. That definitely made me question the choices being made when it comes to certain products. Price is another major factor. Stop & Shop is noticeably more expensive than Market Basket, and honestly, I don't understand the price difference when I feel that Market Basket often has better quality produce and overall value. Big Y is also another option for me, even though it's a little farther away. I actually stopped at this Stop & Shop today primarily because I needed to go to Citizens Bank, which is conveniently located inside many Stop & Shop locations. While I was there, I picked up a few things I needed for the house. I will say that the shelves were well stocked, which was a positive. However, for a Saturday, having only two registers open wasn't ideal and basically forced me to use self-checkout, which I'm not a huge fan of. Overall, the store was fine for grabbing a few necessities, but I just don't find myself choosing Stop & Shop for my main grocery shopping anymore. There are simply other stores that I feel offer better prices, better quality, and a better overall value.

However, since I've been starting to stop at Market Basket, I legitimately only go to Market Basket now. It's so much nicer, Market Basket everything and is so well organized. Everything is easy to find. Customer service is great prices are great and when I say prices are great I mean like better than Stop & Shop.. Nothing's cheap but they're cheaper then Stop & Shop for sure. I do come to the market on Sundays, which I will say this location is extremely busy on Sundays, but I mean that's to be expected.

My comments have been flooded with Market Basket requests since I started this journey. For full transparency, I didn't know MB existed until I started DOGGIN these chickens. I walked in with my production team, and was so caught off guard. Employees smiling from ear to ear while being dressed to the nines, floors squeaky clean, a fresh popcorn station, a delectable looking hot bar, etc. There is just so much soul in here. This is what a family run grocery store looks like before they sell out. You can just tell, this is their baby. They care so much. They put their heart and soul into running these stores, and it shows. I felt like I was in a Bucee's, and I don't know if I could give a higher compliment. Perhaps the most surprising thing of all was the $4.69 rotisserie chicken. This marks the cheapest tissi Chicken Wars has ever seen. Cheaper than Costco and Sam's Club. How are they doing this? My one concern was that the chicken came in saran wrap, which I thought would make the skin all soggy. The other 32 grocery stores I've tried all came in a plastic bag or plastic container. However, I respected the confidence. They're not scared to do something no one else is doing. Talent hits a target no one else can hit, genius hits a target no one else can see. We got this bird and took it to a park down the street, and I began consumption. The skin was ideal, a perfect golden brown with a slight crisp. The saran wrap didn't make it soggy at all. The breast was perfectly tender and was delicious. I didn't need one sip of water throughout the whole bird. The leg was operating at a high level as well, falling off the bone. I sat on this park bench in awe. How? How can this be $4.69, a good size, and this good? It didn't make sense. I'm still struggling to come to terms with it. I ended up giving it an 8.9/10, which makes it tied for 3rd with the Fresh Market. My only critique is it didn't have as much flavor as Fairway or Publix, but it was right there. I was so inspired that I went back in and tried to buy a hat, but they didn't sell any smh. I was especially thankful for this, as we needed a road win in New England. The other 2 birds I tried up here were ROUGH. A nice side effect of this journey has been traveling to try new birds. Every time I travel, I feel like I gain a wealth of knowledge in a short period of time. I grow and learn every time I go to a new place, and to me, that's what life is all about. Learning, growing, and trying to satiate this passionate curiosity I have about the world. THANK YOU MARKET BASKET FOR BRINGIN THE REAL BACK! FOR BRINGING THE SOUL BACK! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Market Basket 4. Stop & Shop 5. Market 32 6. Price Chopper/Hannaford We realize that quality and selection with some of these grocery stores can vary by location. For example, a Price Chopper can be much nicer in one town than in another (Price Chopper Webster, MA is a very nice PC). But in our area, we stand by these standings! We use Market 32 as a giant convenience store for on demand staples like hamburger patties and rolls, milk and eggs. That said, some of these items are much more expensive than Market Basket. And when it comes to produce, we're always disappointed with Market 32 quality, and often the price too. Bok choy is a good example. Market 32 Bok choy is often $2 more a pound than at Market Basket, and limp, like it's been on a Price Chopper truck for a few days too long. And the cod we tried, was very fishy and compares poorly with cod loins from Wegman's. Market 32 prepared pizza was very disappointing, though I tried sushi here once (I was starving), and to my chagrin, it was pretty good. On the plus side, this Market 32 is quite new, quite clean, and usually quite quiet. But other than on-demand necessitates, we have much better choices if we're willing to drive an extra 10 - 15 minutes.

She listened to what I wanted, and when I showed her a photo of my daughter's dress, she made great suggestions. The next day, I was surprised to receive a phone call from Sharon. It turned out that my daughter's date had also ordered a prom flowers at Dave's and Sharon was calling to ask if it would be ok if she deviated a little from what we had discussed so that their boutonniere and bouquet could match. I oof course said yes, and I was so impressed that Sharon had taken time to call me and I was equally impressed with how much thought she was putting into the flowers. Both the bouquet and the boutonniere were absolutely beautiful with dainty lavender roses, white hydrangeas, lovely accent greens, and a beautiful bow. The service I received here and the quality of the flowers was outstanding - far better than some full service florists. I'll definitely be going back here for future dance flowers, and I'd like to give a huge shoutout to Sharon for her thoughtfulness and the beautiful flowers she provided for prom.

With brand names as well as local products, Dave's is what I look for in a local grocery market.
