Coterie is the newest bit of New Orleans on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Many restaurants claim a Nola connection but Coterie has the bonafides with another restaurant in LA. It also has legit food in a great atmosphere. From the outside, this restaurant is very deceiving. A raised rectangle does not evoke the same atmosphere that the inside does. Inside is classy yet casual with an upscale vibe. The food is New Orleans and South Louisiana Favorites. Etouffee, gumbo, red beans, and po-boys are all available. Unlike some MS joints, the food is actually good here. I mean, you can't go wrong when you use the right bread for po-boys (if you know, you know). Their roast beef is likely the best on the coast. I stopped in for a to-go order while visiting the area and was pleasantly surprised by this spot. I ended up sitting at the bar while I waited for my food. It was happy hour, which meant $1 oysters. The staff and bartender were friendly while I waited. The oysters were fresh and the prices very reasonable for happy hour. Once my food arrived, I left. The shrimp and grits were delicious and it brings out a lot of flavor! You also can't go wrong with the crawfish etoufee. That dish was really delicious and I love the presentation of the rice and crawfish in the roux! Service was excellent! Adam the bartender served us and he was fantastic with our visit at Coterie! I've been to this Coterie Long Beach a number of times. The first was a trip from the Armed Forces Retirement Home. They really took care of us. Since then I have come with my lady friend. We went again. We went for brunch this time. I had a great Caesar salad loaded with blackened shrimp. She had a fried oyster salad. They were both outstanding. read more

This is my second time here I think it will be my last. Food is not good. I had a bacon jam burger it was dry. Fry's seem old like they been sitting out. Shrimp and grits were cold come on. Pasta and Shrimp had only about four shrimp. The place was not full only about 5 tables , staff not overworked. I've been eating along the coast for years, and I'm convinced this place serves the best oysters on the half shell--especially when the guy with the gold chain is shucking behind the bar. One day, we arrived too early for oyster happy hour but still grabbed a dozen. Honestly, those pre-happy-hour oysters were just okay--maybe a 2.5 out of 5. But when 3pm rolled around and the shucker showed up, they transformed into a perfect 5 out of 5. Best ever! Beyond oysters, the cajun eggrolls were awesome, packed with flavor. The crawfish etouffee? Absolute perfection--a 5 out of 5 with a spicy kick that lingers just right. My friend's crab and corn bisque smelled incredible, and I can't wait to go back to try it myself. He was very impressed with them offering Grouper. It was an amazing dish. I had the Taste of Arcadiana which was also delicious. The portions are large so come hungry. First let me say that I never write reviews good or bad however I feel compelled to do so because we had the most horrible experience in this restaurant that I've ever had in my life! We were a party of 8 that had a reservation for 7pm. When we arrived another party of 5 walked in at the same time we did without a reservation. There seemed to be some confusion over tables when this guy who worked there walked up. I later found out he was a manager!! He seemed to be very frazzled at the table situation because so many people were waiting to be seated. ( he thought we were all together) He proceeds to tell us( our group with the reservation) that he was dealing with a party of 45 for a wedding and that he had to seat these 5 people and our wait for a table would be 25 min and on top of that if we ordered the grouper that would be another 35 min to cook! His tone of voice was soooo ugly and he definitely sounded like we were inconveniencing him! I have never been talked to like that in a restaurant EVER! I proceeded to say then I guess you're telling us to leave right?! At which time he said well I'm just giving you all the information so yall know. Never once did he apologize for anything! We did end up eating there which I regret because I feel like we condoned his behavior by staying. The food was good. The presentation not so much as there was wilted lettuce on my plate which looked like it was days old and had been left out. I didn't catch his name but he was somewhat short had a buzz cut and wore glasses so if you happen to come across him I pray your experience is a lot better than ours was! My group wanted to stay because we were such a large group to just be able to walk in anywhere else but I would have preferred to eat at McDonald's across the street than to eat there! Let me also say that all the other people waiting on us were very pleasant and it's a shame they have to work with someone like him! Especially being a manager!!
