Such a quaint and gorgeous place! Jeannette and her husband run the shop together, and they extremely hospitable and provide amazing service. My mother and I ordered the "V and Tea," and were not disappointed. There was a wide range of organic teas to choose from and are separated into caffeinated and non-caffeinated. Our favorite was the marigold hibiscus. There is a lot of attention that goes into every detail in this shop. Each table has its own theme. We sat at the "science" table, and all around us were pictures of scientists, the periodic table, a vintage light microscope, and these holographic-looking planets of our solar system! It had a relaxing ambiance which is important for a tea room. Tea had a limited selection; I would love to see more varieties in the future such as peach vanilla, rose, almond, & cherry blossoms. LOVE this place!! I was just here earlier today to celebrate my bday with myself and 5 of my friends. Had an absolute blast! Starting with the planning, I had so many questions as this is my first tea event and they were kind enough to call and go over every little detail with me. Some of us have dietary needs/allergies and that was covered with no issues. The ladies here were so kind and kept in touch regarding my reservation and any questions I might have. Today, when we all got there our table was beautifully decorated!! Adorable decor even down to the menues and restroom (lol). And the food...omg those scones and cake were heavenly, tea was scrumptious and the sandwiches were perfectly light and flavorful. I had 1 last minute cancelation and they worked it out to we just had more food for the table (this was disclosed to me well in advance) which was completely fine with us. Several weeks ago I started planning my birthday party and among several places that I've researched I found this place to host it for 10 of my closest family and friends. I had 10 people coming and I was assured by the owner that all 10 would be at one table. When I arrived I knew that this wasn't going to be a good experience as she was already arguing with me that only seven people can fit at one table and the rest of my guests had to be separated to another table. I was embarrassed the whole time that my niece has had to sit at a separate table and feel left out. In addition she had asked me which teas I want it served and one of them was incorrect. Owner's attitude was to be desired for and every time something was requested she didn't smile at all. Her husband was more friendly than her. My guests give me feedback that evening that they didn't like her attitude either. It's a shame because the place was cute. Regarding the food I could have made those types of sandwiches at much less of a cost. It was just enough for a little snack for 10 people. Overall based on everything that I've mentioned the most being the fact that we didn't feel welcome there I would give this place a rating of zero I'm definitely not returned by any means because the price I paid pretty person I would have had a very lavish party. The price would have been worth it if we felt welcomed and the food was good. I don't recommend this place at all and several of my guests we're planning to have get-togethers there in based on my experience and their experience they're going to choose a competitor nearby. Not large portions but you would never know. It's surprising how much you fill up. They also had a choice of cranberry or pumpkin scone which are really good with the Devonshire cream and jelly. Desserts we're a little lacking, coffee cake was good but oatmeal raisin cookie reminded me of store bought. Service was excellent. Only bummer was the time limit (90 min), which was totally understandable due to starting of holiday season. Overall I would recommend and come back. We called before and they said that they allot an hour and a half for our tea time and we were celebrating a birthday. What a little hidden gem in Upland! The Coterie is a must visit! Great place for a date, small parties/events-showers (baby, bridal, birthday) or club gatherings. My teenage son, best friend and I love tea service and The Coterie did not disappoint. It was such a great experience in an intimate and luxurious atmosphere and the tea and food were delicious. A little about my visit to The Coterie... As I first stepped through the doors of this charming tea room I was immediately transported from downtown Upland to another place and time; a sort of whimsical Parisian cafe or Victorian English cottage. Its romantic and eclectic decor of picture frames, teacups and miscellaneous knick-knacks were so captivating that I was unable to take in all its splendor at once. Instead, I found myself drifting off with the soft French music playing at the Coterie as I admired each of the carefully curated pieces that adorns the walls and wondering about the people whose portraits hung proudly on the walls. My favorite piece of decor was a narrow mirror with a floral crown that was hung on a column and had an engraved brass sign below it that read, "mirror, mirror on the wall, I've become my mother after all." I chuckled silently finding some personal truth in it and asking God to help us all if that does in fact happen-LOL! Janet, the owner was quite lovely and friendly. She greeted me as I walked in and ushered me to our table. Her warm smile behind her shield made me feel instantly welcomed. As I sat down I couldn't help but admire the beautiful vintage gold guild edge floral snack plate and tea cups -they were gorgeous! Janet then presented the menu, hardback vintage books which we found to be adorable and quite a creative detail. In actuality the entire space is a labor of love and you can tell how much pride and passion she has for her business. So after reviewing our options, we decided on the "Coterie" tea option which includes: a pot of tea for each of us, soup du jour, 3 finger sandwiches for each of us, a scone and desserts. I tend to always ask for a tea recommendation when I visit tea rooms rather than read over the tea menu since they know what's best and Janet recommended some delicious teas. Since there was 3 of us, that meant we could enjoy a different pot of tea with each course and we absolutely loved her recommendations. We started with a Pear-Lavender herbal, followed with Earl Grey and ended with the Tennessee Whiskey tea, which is a definite must try! The aroma of the bourbon barrel is so sweet and forward on the Tennessee Whiskey tea that it made for a very fulfilling cuppa. We bagan with our savories course with a pot of pear-lavender tea and creamy homemade tomato basil soup. The soup was full of flavor and served in beautiful vintage double-handle cream soup bowls. We continued our savories course when Janet arrived with the gorgeous 3-tiered cake stand. I love vintage serve ware so I couldn't help but take notice the delicate intricacy of the vintage reticulated serving plates that held our finger sandwiches. The dainty sandwiches were soft and delicious (cucumber, egg salad & chicken salad) as tea sandwiches should be. We then moved on to the scone course and we paired it with the Earl Grey. Janet explained the high quality of her Italian 1st pressed Earl Grey and we definitely savored the quality of the bergamot which complimented the scones perfectly. Let me just say Janet's cranberry scones were marvelous!!! Probably one of the best scones I have ever had. They were soft, buttery, perfectly sweetened and broke-apart so easily in my fingers, the way a scone should. Janet also provided clotted cream, jam and a delicate serving of Rose honey which we drizzled over our scone (WOW!!! I need some of this honey in my life STAT!). We finished up with the dessert course which in my opinion, was exactly what a dessert course should be at tea; just sweet enough to round out the previous courses all-the-while complimenting and drawing out the notes of the tea being served. Janet achieved this perfectly with her selection of homemade fudge (tiny), shortbread cookie (small) and cream puff (medium) that made for a perfect combination with the Tennessee Whiskey tea. We finished our tea service perfectly satiated and happy. All and all, we enjoyed our Saturday afternoon together at Coterie and we plan to return soon to continue supporting our local small business. Until then, I will brew a few cuppas of the yummy pear-lavender tea that I purchased from Janet to hold me over until I can return to the Coterie. read more

Spent a LOVELY afternoon here and met the wonderful owner and her daughter who told us they had opened only a few days ago. It's exactly like tea places in Pasadena, where she is originally from, but more reasonably priced. There's plenty of parking in the surrounding streets, a vegan/gluten free menu, and a large tea selection. My Earl Grey wasn't the tiniest bit bitter which is saying something. Perfect spot for a girls outing, bridal/baby shower, lunch date with your mom, etc. She collects beautiful teapots and displays them all around the tables and has a great Wednesday special. I love that she wants to recreate special times she had with her grandmother as a child, and that each table has a special theme. The finger sandwiches were fantastic.
