Made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance via text for a friend and I. We were one of the first ones there and had the opportunity to meet the owners; a husband and wife duo who were both incredibly kind and ensured we had a wonderful experience. It's very well decorated and you can tell a lot of thought was put into each decorative decision. Which the owner shared was absolutely true! Very aesthetically pleasing and relaxing ambiance. In Old Town Upland, this quaint wife-husband owned and run tea house offers a warm and whimsical space. They are small business owners who thrived by adapting to unexpected times. They make their own scrumptious food- tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, & jam, and desserts, which included bread pudding using the crust from the sandwiches. They make blends of teas creating some of our group favorites like Toasted Caramel Crème, Madagascar Vanilla Rose, and Dragon Fruit Dream to name a few. The tomato bisque soup was just right. Soon their business will offer beer, wine and charcuterie boards. We are looking forward to returning. They were gracious hosts who checked on us often. My wife had the pear lavender tea and I tried the maple cream oolong. Both were delicious. The next course was the tomato basil bisque soup and the mixed green Caesar salad. Came for my mom's birthday and loved it. I have been to other tea houses but have to say, I really enjoyed the food they served. The soup and salad were so flavorful. For teas we ordered Earl Grey, Marigold hibiscus, peppermint and a Madagascar tea. By the time we received the plate tower, I was already full. Jeanette and her niece helped create the most wonderful ambience in their tea room. We had a small group of 12 gather on Sunday June 12, 2022. Jeanette was warm and super accommodating. As we were a group of all graduate/postdoc womxn scientists (Entomology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology and Plant Science) Jeanette excitedly introduced us to her world of physics as was well depicted by her science wall in her tea room. Our experience started by texting Jeanette about our interest back in April and we were able to coordinate a date that worked for her and our group. We wanted to have the area to ourselves and that was possible by booking on Sunday for an extra fee. Jeanette was regularly texting and updating on situations (like the Lemon Festival) and was very quick to reply. An added bonus was her wonderful raffle and trivia idea! Her questions enveloped different areas of science, from physics to ornithology! Gifts were sachets of her delicious tea - we were all excited to take some of that back home to continue the experience. Food was tasty, as we got to experience their tomato bisque, refreshing watermelon balsamic salad, yummy finger sandwiches, scones (with that delicious clotted cream and berry jam!!) and some cupcakes and chocolate covered biscuits. Jeanette had also prepared extra of which we enjoyed and some of us were able to take home! My sister and I brought my mom here for Mother's Day and had a great time. It's a small place, I definitely recommend making a reservation which I did one week in advance. They were quickly responsive with my reservation request. The decor is so adorable and the teas we got were delicious! The food was also really good. We were all obsessed with the scones! Several people recommended Coterie Tea And Eatery in Upland CA to me. Went there today. Went on Metrolink. On weekdays trains on the San Bernardino Line operate almost every hour. Coterie Tea and Eatery is on 2nd Street a very short distance north of the Upland Metrolink station. For those who drive to Upland, there were lots of places to park in the center of 2nd Street. There are also many interesting things to see within two blocks of Coterie Tea And Eatery if you have time to walk around a while in Upland. Everything was very good and was a very good value. As others have mentioned, it's very attractive inside Coterie Tea And Eatery. While I was there a lady who had just started working up the street came in and was very impressed. She said she was coming back to have tea at Coterie Tea And Eatery sometime soon. She was carrying her little daughter in her arms and couldn't stay for tea today. Wish I could give Coterie Tea And Eatery extra points for having comfortable chairs and for having tables big enough for everything to fit on. read more

Upland, CA I visited twice in May 2021. I traditionally make afternoon tea reservations at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, CA or The Huntington Library Tea Room in Pasadena, CA both of which were temporarily closed in May 2021. The Langham was closed due to tiered reopening restrictions, the Tea Room at the Huntington Library is undergoing a complete renovation. These are my top pics for tea service and food, I have rarely ventured outside of these options when local. One of my friends lives in Upland, so I did a Yelp search for Afternoon Tea in the area and was pleasantly surprised to find a few small quaint options in the area including Coterie. I stopped in and met Jeanette, the owner, who was very welcoming and kind, and although I did not have a reservation she did happen to have a few extra scones so I purchased a pot of tea and scone to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and get a feel for the overall experience. I was extremely relaxed and enjoyed my visit. Quick Takeaway: The benefits of this tea room are the small quaint intimate space (approximately 1000 square feet), and the ability to enjoy the use of the beautiful collection of fine porcelain tea sets acquired over the years. Jeanette, the owner, brews a mighty fine pot of tea, and it is worth a visit just for a perfectly brewed pot of tea if in the area, reservations required. I enjoyed the tea selection and the menu is varied where you can order as little (just a pot of tea) or as much as you would like based on your preferences. I was delightfully surprised by the delicious soup and salad served with the full tea option. This was my first time having soup and salad with afternoon tea and both items were my favorite bites. The flavors of scones, desserts and even sandwich flavors may rotate daily depending on what Jeanette feels like making. I found the rectangular tea sandwiches, three per person, egg salad, cucumber and chicken salad to be fairly basic in flavor although the overall experience was good. Visit #1 I was by myself to check out the tea room and made a spur of the moment decision to try out the tea and scone $12. Jeanette brewed me a perfect pot of tea at the perfect temperature and I enjoyed at least 4 cups of tea, and was absolutely relaxed sitting and chatting with her a bit in between her attending to other customers. There are about 30 different tea selections, I asked for something with blue cornflower, and she recommended the Passion Fruit Black Tea with Raspberry Cornflower, that tea was absolutely delicious. I actually could not stop thinking about how great and perfectly brewed that tea was for days! I loved it! The cranberry scone was made in house by Jeanette, it had a slight crumble but was good. After my visit, I checked out one other more newly opened tea house in the area which was much busier and bustling with customers but I decided I would book with Jeanette for my upcoming reservation for four ladies, due to the relaxed smaller tea room vibe. One of my guests is also a musician who would be playing for us as well, and I thought this venue would provide the intimate setting I was looking for, and it did. Visit #2 I booked for the 11am to 1pm tea time for four ladies and we happened to have the tea room all to ourselves which was nice. I was anticipating this celebration and our special guest musician. The ladies had a great time and seemed to enjoy themselves. The owner even provided each of the birthday guests with a cupcake and a candle towards the end of the tea service which was such a nice gesture as these were in addition to the other desserts offered with the tea which were cream puffs, brownie bites and macarons. I was trying to ensure the ladies enjoyed the full tea experience. The tea menu seemed a bit overwhelming and I would have loved if the owner had made some suggestions or just brought out a few popular teas to try for those who did not make a selection. I'd thought about making a personalized Birthday menu to show tea service included a pot of tea per person with a list of their most popular teas to choose from to ensure each received their own tea pot. Even though the menu I selected for each guest included one tea pot per person, we ended up only getting two tea pot selections. The food: The full tea service which included soup and salad, both of which may have been my favorite bites of the experience. The tomato bisque was lovely and the small serving left me scraping every last drop, the salad with watermelon, feta and balsamic dressing was equally as delicious. The scones were maple with an iced drizzle, and the lemon curd, jam and clotted cream were all three served together in one small plastic container, enjoyed by all who tried, but I wish these were served separately in the beautiful porcelain serve ware versus plastic. All in all, so grateful for these small businesses that are opened and have allowed us to enjoy the afternoon tea experience as everything starts to open up again. read more

Coterie Tea and Eatery is the newest Tea Room in the area. They are located in Historic Downtown Upland, where the antique shop used to be. When I think of Tea Rooms, I love the lavishing fancy royal bourgeoisie feeling... I think if you decide to come to Coterie, you need to manage your expectations for a proletariat experience. To be fair, the prices are a lot cheaper than other fancier tea rooms... but I definitely would NOT come here for a special occasion. The Coterie ($18/person) comes with a pot of tea, four finger sandwiches, your choice of scone, devonshire cream and preserves and a variety of pastries. A little warning here... the table near me came with a party of 3 and they were told a maximum of 2 choices are given per table. The owner explained that they only have 2 people operating this tea room, so they have personal restrictions. As for the tea selection. I find myself thoroughly disappointed by the short list of teas. Tea leaves have a long shelf life, so I don't see why they can't invest into a better selection if the business is a TEA HOUSE. I selected the Pear Lavender Medley which was a blended tea, but I did not taste any of the pear. There was notes of lavender but the lemongrass overpowered everything. I actually like notes of ginger and vanilla, but I didn't detect too much of it as I was drinking. I asked for tea with my honey, and the jar came really sticky. And unlike most tea houses where the tea set comes with a spoon, I had to ask for a spoon to stir my tea. Then to the four finger sandwiches... I imagined four DIFFERENT sandwiches, but when they took my order, I was offered a chives, egg salad or chicken salad sandwich. It was explained as quantity of 2 sandwiches, 4 halves. Why did they all have to be the same kind?? Sigh... I opt for the chicken salad sandwich. It was really good, but I didn't need to eat 2 whole sandwiches of the same kind. A variety would have been appreciated... Most other tea houses with serve up to 3 or 4 different sandwich varieties. The scones for the day were blueberry or cranberry. I opt for blueberry... After taking my order she came back and asked if I wanted the cranberry. I was like no no blueberry please. The scones came with devonshire cream and a 'preserve.' The devonshire cream was super lumpy and the preserve was like a jam you use to make a PB&J. Other tea houses also includes a lemon curd that Coterie is missing. And you would think it is obvious to give your patron a knife for the scone, but I had to ask for a knife. The scone was overly moist and fell apart upon touch. It could not withstand a light spread. For the desserts, they had a chocolate dipped madeleine, wafer straws, some sweet candy with powder sugar coating and a mini cupcake. The madeleine did not taste fresh. I can honestly say the ones I make at home taste better. The technique is really lacking with the back of the madeleine showing a bulge. The wafers were terribly stale and lacked any sense of crispiness as I bit into it. Pretty gross. The powdered sugar thing was too sweet and the mini cupcake was the least bad of the tier. It had a decent strawberry frosting on top. I feel like I am being generous with this 4 star since they are a new small business. It was more like a 3.5 star. This experience is unbearably lacking for anyone who have been at another Tea Room. A spoon to stir my tea and a knife for my scones really feel like common sense. But like I said... this experience was really CHEAP... You get what you are paying for. Other patrons were really excited, but they surely had no other experiences to reference. read more

My daughter had a wonderful time here celebrating her 16th birthday with her best friends. It was everything she had dreamed of. There were many little touches that you wouldn't expect, home made scones, rose petal jam, cute little decor and a birthday bear to celebrate with them. Every little treat I got to try was absolutely delicious. The egg sandwiches were so simple yet so yummy. I left the girls to enjoy the tea party on their own and they couldn't stop talking about how good everything was and how nice the woman who took care of them was. We had the Duchess Tea and it was more than enough food--I don't know how anyone could eat soup and salad on top of it! But she was so kind and brought everyone a complimentary sample of her potato leek soup, which also was delicious. The sandwiches were cucumber mint/cream cheese, roast beef and gouda, and watercress, tomato, and avocado (which she called 'pico de gallo' :D). All were amazing, the bread was soft, the ingredients fresh, and she was so kind and during booking asked if there were any dietary restrictions, so I was able to say I was pescatarian and she brought me an extra pico de gallo sandwich since I couldn't have the roast beef. The blueberry lemon scones were perfect, just crumbly enough w/o being dry (I hate cake-y scones that have too much egg in them) and I tried a pear lavender lemongrass tea, which was new to me and lovely with everything. I was too stuffed to have the chocolate cake w/blueberry reduction, but I managed the fresh coconut macaroon. The decor evokes a casual Parisian salon, sort of cottagey, with lots of framed photos and flowers, very cute. The best part was I didn't feel like she was committing highway robbery and charged a more than reasonable price for her quality tea service. Oye vay. Jeanette Heaster-Rincon (the owner) is not a good person. Booked a 5-person baby shower for a good friend who sadly went into premature labor an entire month and a half before her due date. Baby not doing great in the NICU. I tried to cancel the reservation 2 days before via email, text, and voicemail. They FINALLY got back to me the day of the reservation claiming they were going to charge me 32 dollars per head because they didn't receive my correspondence (they did admit their email hasn't worked in over two years and they don't check the phones during the week). To this, the manager said she could do 20 dollars per head. I was fairly upset because I simply thought they wouldn't charge due to the tragic circumstances, but all the ladies were willing to chip in the 20 dollars so I felt I would just pay and move on to more important things, like supporting my friend in the NICU with her baby. The next day I get an email from Jeanette (the owner) stating the manager should have told me 20 dollars and she was going to run my card on file for 32 dollars per person. Really, really shocked and in disbelief. I will be disputing this charge with my credit card company. Obviously this business has lost all of us as customers, which was foolhardy because we are locals and enjoy tea houses. If you or anyone you know has had a baby in the NICU and understand how heartbreaking and heavy that circumstance is, DO NOT support this business. Many other tea houses around. read more

Due to COVID they were doing outdoor seating and they did a nice job of making everything still look nice while keeping everyone and everything clean and safe.
