12/4/18 Just had them delivered through GrubHub and the food was Horrible. The chicken was dry and over cooked. The cake was dry and had a freezer burn taste. I am at the restaurant now returning the entire delivery. I was told that they would not give me a refund for the bad nasty food that they delivered to me! NEVER AGAIN Update- the owner returned and gave me a FULL REFUND. I am however done with this restaurant and Grubhub This was MONTHS AGO. Had an excellent meal from them. Hey Yelp friends! Today's review is on Cottage Express. I was searching for a good place where I could get hibachi and sushi in CLT for dinner recently. My order was placed through Door Dash. But let's get into the food! I ordered hibachi shrimp meal, Yum yum roll, and a spicy crabmeat roll. My major issue was only with the sushi. My shrimp hibachi plate was really good. It came with shrimp, zucchini, broccoli and mushrooms also w/ fried rice. I'm very picky when it comes to my hibachi because I've had bad ones in the past. But Cottage Express did not not disappoint. HOWEVER. The sushi, the rice was just extremely too mushy and the crab included in both rolls did not taste the freshest. So the reason for the three stars, is mainly in my disappointment towards the sushi. On Door Dash they have a 4.7 rating but on every other platform they have lower ratings. Going back for the hibachi may be an option but for the sushi, I'm don't think so. read more

I have been ordering from here for a year I like their food my orders are chicken egg foo young , sweet and sour pork or chicken and Szechuan beef ( my least favorite because low amount of beef ) I have tried it more than once to see for sure same outcome. The delivery was fast. The food was decent: egg roll was crunchy & not greasy so that was nice. The Singapore mei fun was spicy enough. The wonton soup had 6 wontons so that was nice but it wasn't very flavorful. The fried wontons were not tasty at all & were a bit oily. The absolute worst Chinese I've ever ordered in my life. No fortune cookies. Bad food. I ordered an iced mocha to try it and it tasted like watery coffee ice cream. It was cheaper than most Chinese places, but it was by far no where near close to worth the money. Never have I ever had any kind of food experience as horrible as this one. They are located less than 1/2 a mile from my residence, and we still had to wait almost 2 hours for food. The chicken was inedible with no flavor, oily beyond all recognition, and covered in an overly sweet syrup that made me gag. Every time I've ordered delivery the food shows up quickly and it's hot and fresh and the delivery drivers are always super, super nice and friendly. One word "Roaches". I was in the mood for Chinese and this was right around the corner from where I was. They didn't seem busy at all. Great restaurant! We ordered the dumplings, barbecue ribs, pepper fried shrimp, and sweet and sour broccoli. Each of these dishes were flavored perfectly and the quantity was definitely enough to satisfy my partner and I for the next few meals. The ribs were tender and flavorful enough to qualify for a southern backyard grilling, but with an Asian swing; and the dumplings were packed with assorted Chinese herbs and came with a perfectly balanced dipping sauce. The sushi was not fresh and I didnt finish it because it didnt really taste or look very good. Almist as if it had been sitting in the car a little longer than it should. Nasty, nasty, nasty!!! Food was not edible. The oil was obviously old and used to overcook our food to a burned crisp. Yet, they sent it out to us anyway when it was dark brown and so hard that you'd break a tooth if you tried eating it. Then, upon our complaining, they proceeded to give us an excuse that "they turned the burner up so that's why it was overcooked." Well then, why didn't you recook it before sending it out to your paying customers? Insulting. The dumplings were undercooked and tasted weird so we were actually afraid to eat those. Especially knowing what the place looks and smells like on the inside. I won't be ordering from here ever again.
