    Hibachi Shrimp
    Daijai W.

Hey Yelp friends! Today's review is on Cottage Express. I was searching for a good place where I could get hibachi and sushi in CLT for dinner recently. My order was placed through Door Dash. But let's get into the food! I ordered hibachi shrimp meal, Yum yum roll, and a spicy crabmeat roll. My major issue was only with the sushi. My shrimp hibachi plate was really good. It came with shrimp, zucchini, broccoli and mushrooms also w/ fried rice. I'm very picky when it comes to my hibachi because I've had bad ones in the past. But Cottage Express did not not disappoint. HOWEVER. The sushi, the rice was just extremely too mushy and the crab included in both rolls did not taste the freshest. So the reason for the three stars, is mainly in my disappointment towards the sushi. On Door Dash they have a 4.7 rating but on every other platform they have lower ratings. Going back for the hibachi may be an option but for the sushi, I'm don't think so.

Not good. All the food is quite oily and tastes fake. The place is very dark and not very sanitary. We had a stomach ache after eating here.

Do not eat here. Disgusting. This is really bad Chinese and it seems unsanitary from the time you walk through the door.

Quite possibly the worst Chinese I have ever eaten. Or not eaten, as it were. Save your money and choose someplace else.

All of our dishes were Fresh and Hot. The ambience was really nice for a hotel spot. It gave me feels of Dogwood in Uptown. Nice heavy furniture and a really big bar. My husband said, could have been the best Ruben ever. And he has had a lot of them. The onion rings were fire. Both in taste and heat. I had the fish and chips and it was every bit as good as the best I had in London. Make sure to order a side of mayo for the fries. So Good! Finished it with the cheesecake bites and dang if it wasn't incredible. You can tell it was freshly made. The zest of lemon even came through with it being fried. Our server was very kind and everything was perfect. It was a little slow for it and the food. But that seems to be a staffing shortage not the problem of the server. We were not in a hurry so it didn't matter to us at all. I would highly suggest it.

I stood at the entrance waiting for a host to address me or even give me the light of day but nobody ever showed up. The bar tenders ignored me after realizing I was waiting to talk to a host. Over all I'm very disappointed with this experience, how am I supposed to enjoy a restaurant and what they have to offer when I cannot even be addressed appropriately by staff.

They're known for their draft beers and have a big selection to choose from. Our food came out fresh, hot, and delicious, and the drinks weren't bad either--not watered down, which is always a plus. It's seat-yourself, so we had to pull a couple tables together to fit everyone. One thing to note: it was very warm inside, so I'd recommend sitting toward the back where it's more comfortable. My boys really enjoy this place, so I wanted to like it more, but the food was just okay and a bit pricey for what you get. Most items run about $14.99-$21.99, even appetizers are at entrée prices. I ordered the Carne Asada Fries appetizer ($15.99) after hearing they were "fire." The steak had good flavor, but the portion was light--fine for sharing, but not very filling. One entree, Big Dipper ($15.49), a roast beef seemed overcooked and there wasn't much meat on a large bun. Two people from the table ordered pizza. Neither ate more than 2 pieces. On the positive side, the beer selection is excellent, with plenty of options on tap and in bottles and cans--from Guinness to local IPAs. The atmosphere is also unique: plates cover the walls and ceiling from guests who've completed their beer challenge, which makes for a fun, quirky vibe you really have to see in person. Dart boards for those who want to be a bit more active. Overall, it's a great spot for beer and atmosphere, but the food and pricing didn't quite match the experience for me.

My biggest complaint is the parking situation. I would recommend getting there right when they open or as early as possible because parking can be difficult to find. You definitely don't want to risk getting towed by parking somewhere you're not supposed to. Be aware that you cannot park in the back because that's employee parking, and you also shouldn't park at the Mexican restaurant or the ABC store. It's something to keep in mind before you arrive. My bartender, Xylia, was amazing and absolutely beautiful! She provided great service and made my birthday (8/19) visit even better. In all, I enjoyed the experience and would come back, but the parking situation is definitely something to plan around.

STATS July 24, around midnight !…read more Friday experiences at Stats begin when we were informed that parking would cost $100. When we questioned the price in relation to the $40 cover charge and additional expected spending inside the venue, the parking fee was reduced to $50. We asked for clarification regarding the parking rate. Answer was :: it's my parking lot it's private own and I can charge whatever I want now pay or leave !! Staff stated that if we did not wish to pay, we could leave. We indicated that we were not willing to pay $100 or $50. for the parking fee, cover charge . Staff subsequently contacted the police, and we were asked to leave the property. Police arrived and advised that the location is private property and that the business has the right to set its pricing. We were informed that our options were to pay or leave. It blows my mind while people are willing to pay the price to get in when entrance charges change weekly, pay for drinks and bottles and tables to sit at inside still want to charge people outside to park asking price$100 open your mouth it dropped to $50. Open your mouth again they call the cops and not let you in !! We left the premises without entering the venue. The End!
