The shrimp and broccoli with shrimp fried rice leaves a lot to be desired. The flavor of the shrimp and broccoli was incredibly bland; the flavor was not hitting at all but the shrimp were a decent size. The shrimp fried rice was plain with a couple of onions and salad size shrimp sprinkled on top not tossed in at all. I love this place and the tofu and broccoli is normally on point . Owners be careful with the steel bruh that cleans the woks . I found a steel brush tooth in my tofu / broccoli plate . I bit down and almost broke a tooth . I don't want a refund or a discount, I support this establishment 100% . This is just a heads up going forward for my favorite dish . All I'm saying is that if you spend more than $40 you should get something for free. Having to buy a can of soda after spending over $40 on mom & pop chinese food is wild. Never have I ever. I'm from north jersey so there's mom & pop places everywhere! And you usually get a free can of soda once you go over the $25 threshold. The food was fresh and hot and it was sooo much food for what we typically get at any other Chinese restaurant . The egg rolls were hand made and fresh you can tell these aren't premixed and in the freezer sitting the carrots and cabbage was crunchy and the pork was savory. This place is wonderful for takeout. The front part does allow you to sit and eat but it is not very inviting to do so. The food is packed well and travel the 15 minutes to my destination arriving still hot. The food was average in quantity and taste but is worth another go. read more

This is my neighborhood take out spot, and I'm glad they came! I eat here a lot. The kitchen is in plain view, they have excellent sanitation. It's a family establishment so you get to know them over the years as I have. I give them four stars for their very consistent high quality. Anyone can do hit or miss but The Mandarin really is a trusty standby. Being consistent is really important and these days very rare. It's the standard array of dishes; they don't try to execute things they wouldn't do flawlessly. The shrimp is always fresh, the veggies always properly prepped. They know how to velvet meat properly. This is a take out spot- not so much a dine in. Don't ask for the homemade mustard, they run out on me sometimes. If they would add a little more variety to the chiefly broccoli vegetable mix they would get 5 stars. read more

I recently read a review and decided to try their sesame chicken & fried rice with onion. It was okay. The sesame chicken was a little rubbery and honestly, not that tasty. The women taking the order keeps putting her gloves hands on her mask itching her nose, immediately went to the bathroom with gloves on and came out with gloves on. About as simple as they come. Typical strip mall, primarily take-out Chinese place. Lunch averages $5-$6 and is worth no more than that. Tried the Hunan Chicken and it was fairly blah. The fried rice was oily and the tea was old. The interior was below average. They didn't even have a drink or ice dispenser. You got your ice from a small blue Igloo cooler. Yup, just like the ones you take to a tailgate party! If you're in the area where Harris Blvd ends & connects with Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd, and are jonesing for some fast Chinese, then give'em a shot. If you're more than a stones throw away, then pick another spot! I gave'em two stars merely for the convenience factor. If it weren't for that, then it'd be one star. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! DO NOT EAT HERE! DO NOT EAT HERE! I went here to pick up food for my family. Everyone was about halfway through their meals when I noticed something crunchy in my shrimp lo mein. I shuffled the food around with my tongue and found the culprit. When I spit the piece into my hand I couldn't make out what it was. It was a shiny green. The piece was actually shining almost like those flip flop paint cars. I look at it from one angle it's green and another angle it looks purple. That's when I finally realized what it was. It was a freaking beetle head that I bit. I immediately went to throw up and what do you know I see the body in the toilet. I threw up a little more and immediately went to get my money back. No apology or anything when I went up there. I simply received a refund and the manager/ owner wanted to dispose of the evidence so that no one would know. I lived in Charlotte for 18+ years and now am back and forth between there and the Triangle region of NC. Mandarin has been my favorite place to get Chinese food in North Carolina. Every time I am in Charlotte, I make it a priority to visit this restaurant. Their Sesame Chicken lunch/dinner is by far my favorite dish and their egg rolls are amazing. My favorite in the area! Food is made quickly and is pretty good for takeout. Food prices are comparable. I'm a Plain Jane when it comes to takeout- I only eat fried rice, lo mein, and the donuts. They greeted him by name. This place is a tie with Lotus, it costs more and is a bit better but the price and quality are close enough they cancel each other out.
