I live right by Golden Taipei but never tried it until yesterday. I had a taste for a noodle/pasta dish. I'm also a big fan of general tso chicken so that was my dilemma when browsing the menu. Ultimately I chose the drunken noodles to get my fix. I honestly wasn't too impressed. The noodles were a good size but the dish itself lacked personality in my opinion. It was a bit dry & there weren't many pieces of chicken either. I definitely feel that more effort could be put into the dish. Maybe add some vegetables & a bit more sauce & chicken to noodle ratio. What set it over the top for me is the portion and price of the orange chicken ! Wow was it good !!!! I think I'm officially done with Golden Taipei. Not because the food is bad, simply because this is the third time I've ordered through UberEats and something was wrong or missing. Tonight for example, I order chicken wings and got a half head of lettuce and some kind of chopped up chicken. Once again, I called to make them aware of the error and to see how to go about getting it corrected. First call, someone tells me to hold while they transfer me to a "manager" but instead I was transferred to a voicemail. Hang up, call back again, someone else answers and tells me to hold for an "associate". I was transferred again to the voicemail, this time leaving a message. I seriously doubt anyone will call me back. I'm highly disappointed because this was the only Chinese restaurant I ordered from... guess not anymore. Golden Taipei was introduced to me by a coworker who said they had amazing wings. I can agree they do have great wings, but they have so much more! There Chinese and sushi options are great as well! The chicken and broccoli, which is my favorite, has different heat options (meaning you can choose mild, medium or hot for the sauce on the chicken) and always taste fresh. The portions are great too; I tend to have enough for dinner and lunch the next day. The sushi is pretty nice as well and where I send most beginners sushi eaters for raw and cooked options. The staff has changed much due to Covid, so the customer service is hit or miss at times. I will say the manager is always personable and friendly regardless of the staff concerns. She even makes small talk by asking how your day is going and suggesting other food items. I cant speak to the dinning in service because we have always ordered to go, but I can say it's clean and spacious. All in all I would recommend Golden Taipei if you are looking for some good Chinese food. read more

So I ordered two eggrolls and chicken egg foo young with fried rice. It was more like pea foo young not chicken. I literally removed 30 peas and had 1 small piece of chicken on ONE patty. My parents love this spot. It's their go-to Chinese place. It's pretty good. The food is consistent and the prices are not bad. This time around we got something a little different ... Sushi.... I mean it's not amazing but solid ... Ordering it on the phone was not the easiest and was slightly confusing trying to communicate the sushi part of the order. I visited Golden Taipei with some friends on a Sunday and ironically that just so happens to be the only day they have their buffet. I thought about ordering from the menu until I became aware of the buffet pricing which was cheaper. Although we were a little skeptical, most of the food turned out to be pretty good. The only items that weren't up to par were the overcooked chicken wings, off tasting chicken on a stick and the beef had an off putting taste as well similar to flour. I've lived in Charlotte since Golden TaiPei first opened in the early 2000s. Like me, they were from NY and the food was the best I'd found in Charlotte compared to NY (IYKYK). Sunday's they would bless us all with an all you can eat buffet of the most delicious food. I guess after COVID the original owners sold the business because there is no longer a buffet and the food is AWFUL. After years of not eating here I gave it a chance last week and I would have honestly preferred Captain D's.....seems like food at Golden TaiPei was fried in their same old oil. Yuck. Bland and gross. I hate to give such an awful review but I don't want others to waste their hard earned money on garbage. Such a sad ending to my go to place. :-( read more

So I decided to eat supper here despite some of the reviews I read. So far it doesn't seem to be too bad. There's literally no one here other than myself. The waiter got me a cup of hot tea, that was odd since most places give you a pot. I ordered some steamed dumplings and some Hunan beef.. Chef Mike was in the house since the food arrived within minutes of it being ordered. The dumplings were tasty and they were accompanied by a sweet, hot sauce. The Hunan beef was also nice and tasty and spicy too. Was it the best Chinese food I've ever had? No it wasn't but it wasn't anywhere near the worst either. It was hot and tasty and hit the spot on a cold evening. I'll probably go back and see what else I like. read more

Finally some good Chinese food in the north Charlotte area! I used to work near a Chinese restaurant whose fried rice was my very favorite and the frequency of which I would order it proved that very fact. I now have a viable option with Golden Taipei. It's located in the Davis Lake shopping center that houses the Starbucks and Harris Teeter. It's very small on space and offers a few booths, center table seating, and a couple outdoor tables. They have the typical Chinese restaurant lunch special offerings that come with your choice of egg roll or spring roll and pork fried rice. There's also sushi and hibachi lunch specials, however, I haven't tried those yet. I can highly recommend the shrimp and broccoli. Unlike other places that rely on bulky pieces of shrimp (to mislead you into thinking you're getting more shrimp), Golden Taipei's take consists of small pieces of shrimp and they are generous! If pork fried rice is not your thing with the lunch special, they will switch it up based on your preference. Food is ready promptly, so you can either call ahead or dine in during your lunch. read more
