This is an update to the previous review for the Commerce Township location. I want to acknowledge the owner for taking the time for firstly, reading the 2 related reviews, then reaching out, acknowledging the problems that led to those reviews and turning it around by offering great resolution. While I certainly appreciate the resolution being offered now, despite me not yet acting on it (due to moving) What I appreciate even more is; if you guessed excellent Customer Care, you win the prize! The owner reached out and was very pained about the review, as he not only absolutely treasures his store, its food and reputation; he appreciates his customers (both new & loyal repeats) as well. He took action. He also provided context for the issues that I was disappointed with (no excuses but explanations). The main two reasons for the disappointing service that evening, were both explanations which were both reasonable & correctable (though one of the issues-- the unidentifiable 'pseudo bacon', was out of his control at the time... can we all say 'supply chain trauma'). He then turned his attention to working quickly to rectify both issues going forward. Love the dedication to what I refer to as, P & P: Prevention and Preservation. It's not rocket science, it's simply CARE. He cared enough to put new best practices in place to prevent repetition of the issues AND he cared enough to preserve a relationship with a customer who'd previously vowed never to return; which also preserves the potential for future and hopefully repetitive customers. Maybe it should be and instead of P & P, it should be the 3 P's: Prevent, Preserve & Protecting Potential (customers, staff practicing dynamic work ethics, and of course, satisfying products). I'm definitely looking forward to giving this location in Commerce another try--I know I said I wouldn't but, just as everyone and everything can sometimes be 'off their/its game' and would welcome a second shot-- so does this Commerce Township Cottage Inn pizza parlor. And if you're wondering why I used the terminology 'pizza parlor' instead of franchise; it's because when a restaurant goes above & beyond to make it a personal satisfying experience for each customer, I think that deserves a title reflective of that same level of 'intimate nostalgia' that reminds us of a world when times were simpler, people nicer and pizza authentic! Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with Cottage Inn Pizza in Commerce. The service was beyond snail-paced--1.5 hours for delivery, and I had to call the store not once, but twice, just to figure out where my food was. When it finally arrived, the driver conveniently forgot my salad, despite the store claiming they made two of them for me. The driver, of course, denied everything--how do you lose TWO salads?! As for the pizza? I wouldn't even feed it to a stray dog. It was cold, stale, and had all the flavor and texture of soggy cardboard. It's like they went out of their way to make it as unappetizing as possible. And the cherry on top? Rude, dismissive customer service that acted like I was the problem. I haven't ordered from here in years, but thin crust pizza sounded tasty. When I walked in the door about 15 minutes after placing my order, I was greeted with this sight: one worker licking his fingers and eating while boxing up someone's pizza. Neither worker was wearing food prep gloves. I should have canceled my order. Against my better judgment I retrieved my pizza (luckily it wasn't the one I just saw boxed by Mr Saliva Hands) and went on my way. I had ordered a thin crust with pepperoni, bacon, shredded Parmesan and a garlic parm crust. Crust was dry as a bone, in fact there was no Parmesan on the pizza at all. It was a weird combination of cold and over cooked, and was not cut. It has a "sour" smell to it. I cut a small piece from it, and it tasted equally sour. I am only reviewing their thin crust pizza. the crust was terrible. it was definitely pre made, maybe frozen and very similar to Hungry Howies thin crust. Both YUK. I only eat thin crust, so Ive tried many. This was at the bottom on the taste scale, leathery and tough. Value: same price as Spicy Pizza in Novi that used a special oven and italian crust. I bought a "Groupon"-type thing for this place from LocalFlavor.com (and it's still on the website now, actually - pay $10, get $20 to use here) and my parents and I decided to get pizza takeout yesterday. They've been to Cottage Inn in Ann Arbor, but it was a while ago. I've also done takeout from the Madison Heights store recently (also with a Groupon, ha) and it was delicious. First off: if you don't have any coupons, check Cottage Inn's website for deals - they had an online-only deal for 1 large gourmet pizza and 1 large one-topping pizza for $21.99 total, which is a pretty good deal - normally the large gourmet pizzas are like $15.99+. Because I already had this deal though, they wouldn't let me combine it (fair enough) so I ordered a medium BBQ chicken pizza and a small mushroom pizza, which came out to be around $22. Cottage Inn is definitely pricey but the pizza is quality - we're used to Little Caesars pizza and my mom thought CI's was delicious. She did comment that the mushroom had too much garlic, but I thought it was great. I did a garlic butter crust on one of the pizzas and a garlic butter parmesan on the other, too - Hungry Howie's does a better job with the flavored crust, IMO, but this was tasty too. The reason this place gets 5 stars from me is pretty random - when my parents went to pick up the pizza, they threw in a free BBQ chicken sub with it too, I think someone had canceled their order or something. It's pretty much the same as the pizza, except in sub form, so I'm looking forward to eating it tonight for dinner :). I'd order again from this location when in the area, as well. read more

Solid pizza from Cottage Inn. We are trying to support local businesses during the pandemic and ordered some delivery from here. Our pizza delivered via Door Dash was super fast (under 35 mins) and was hot and fresh. I appreciate that they have gluten free options in addition to pizza. Their GF pizza is cooked on an aluminum tray to avoid cross contamination which is an extra step that is much appreciated. Their prices are also a smidge cheaper than the two other big chain pizza joints. I enjoyed my Gf thin crust pizza and their garlic dip is addictive! read more

This is our go to for pizza. I love that they offer so many options and we are always trying something new. We've never had any issues with the quality of ingredients. I Love their oven baked wings and everything stix with garlic cream cheese. The garlic cream cheese alone has made me a believer. They also have a reward system which makes them stand out from other chains. The only issue we've had was a miscommunication for a new driver who couldn't find our place. I think they were new but the manager reached out to apologize which was so kind. All the employees we have dealt with have been friendly. Pizza is always fresh, hot and delicious. i finally thought we had found a pizza place. enough toppings, meaty cheese, fresh veggies but unfortunately they do not follow order instructions. my wife is allergic to tomatoes, epi pen allergic, we wrote it n the order "no tomatoes" and the calzone still had tomato sauce inside it. Returned the calzone to the store, waited 20 minutes for a new one while listening to the staff argue about who was going to make it, received the new calzone .... no manager, no one to say sorry. I demanded to see the manage, got the usual excuses, "we are busy, new employees" she finally said she was sorry and was going to go. I reminded her of my having to return to the store to get the correct calzone and then waited while the rest of my family was waiting at home. Had a problem at this location a week ago. Was able to get in touch with the store manager, and he was excellent at resolving the problems. I have to say, that my wife and I, absolutely LOVE pizza. And we have it at least 2 to 3 times a week. If you want average pizza, go someplace else - if you want Great Pizza, then goto the Cottage Inn in Commerce Twp 14mile/Haggerty. The best thing about the pizza is the Sauce, I always ask for Extra. I also love the variety of offerings they have, not just pizza, but various salads, different variations of breadsticks, and even pasta offerings. We also thoroughly enjoy the free Crust flavors they add at the end - Butter Parmesan is my favorite. I like how I can go in there and ask what sort of specials they have, and they are able to give options right away that fit what I want to eat. When they say their pizzas are gourmet, they really mean it. We always have leftovers! read more

Wow! This was my first time having Cottage Inn Pizza since eating it at the original downtown Ann Arbor location years ago. All I can say is for the price and convenience, you will not find a higher quality and better tasting pizza anywhere. I did carry out because I wanted to see the store and have my fresh pizza immediately. I was happy to see that the store was clean and the staff were extremely nice. There's really not much more I need to say about the pizza; it's one of the best you will have. It's the hidden gems I need to mention......The fresh side dips! I had no idea about these dips because I figured they were processed packaged crap dips like everyone else has. The manager at the store told me about them and how they are made fresh at the store. I respect anything made fresh so I ordered the garlic cream cheese dip and the ranch dip. Daaaammmnn they are good!! Just the perfect amount of taste so they are not overbearing and salty. I've been ordering pizza and other things from this store for a couple of years now and decided I needed to add a review since this place doesn't deserve 2 stars. 1. Excellent pizza. So many varieties. My favorite is the thin crust pizza they have. They happily tend to any specifications I ask for. 2. Any time I've ever had a mess up, they've refunded me or gave me a new pizza for free the next time I ordered. 3. They are under new management and the new owner is a real nice guy and runs it a lot better than how it used to be. They're on the pricey side but their pizza is well worth it. Amazing pizza! They were even early delivering it. They don't take their sweet a** time getting your food to you like most other pizza places. I got the chicken Alfredo pizza (chicken, mushroom, tomatoes, & Alfredo sauce) which was so so scrumptious. Crust is tasty too. $9.99 for a small, not sure if I'd consider that reasonable or not maybe some do but I don't think it is lol. Other than the price it's a definite 10/10 & I will be back.
