Went last evening for dinner and love the decor inside, very cozy. This place was remodeled and I think all the changes they did really were great additions to the restaurant. I started off with a cup of the tortilla soup which hit the spot last night with the cold & icy weather. The soup was flavorful, and liked the little pieces of bread to dip in the soup on the side. Soup wasn't too spicy and was comforting. Definitely would order if again, they also had on special split pea soup & a clam chowder. ***Special Alert: I saw on Wednesday's they feature 1/2 price bottles of wine on their menu. For dinner I ordered the bbq chicken pizza which had mozzarella, a sweet bbq sauce, chicken, a little bacon and onion on it. Very flavorful and I love how they cook the crust on pizza, soft not burnt or too crispy. Service was attentive and friendly. Went for a casual dinner New Year's Eve. Service from Erik was very good. We started with stuffed clams. Don't bother. Pretty much all bread crumbs. Bracciole good. Not a huge portion (they add a sizeable Italian sausage link that was a little overcooked), sauce good. Wife had the Grouper salad. Fish portion was good and tasty, but salad overall not impressive. For $22 She was still hungry and she's 115 lbs. She ordered a glass of Chianti that the menu said $8, was charged $12. My Old Fashion was good but, not surprisingly, $14. The food is great for the most part. When we were there earlier in the fall to dine on the patio our experience was wonderful. Last night, however, we decided to order out because I thought they were following the recommendations to only do out door and to-go ordering. I was wrong. When I went to pick up my food there were a few tables of people sitting inside. Then instead of bringing the food to me, they asked me to walk through the restaurant to get to the to-go area. I was really disappointed in this especially. Hoping they will do better with their processes to keep their patrons and community safe. Don't bother making a reservation, if you do make sure you confirm twice. It was my wife's birthday on Saturday and I called on Monday to make a reservation. When we arrived they acted like they did not have our reservation then a table of 10+ came in without a reservation right before us and they sat them over keeping our reservation. They were rude and acted like we were troubling them. This was a stop that my wife wanted on her Bithday because of past experience, thanks for nothing and we will not be back. read more

We had reservations this evening for a table of seven come inside at 6:00 PM. We were told as soon as we sat down that they were short of help and service might be a little slow. I am very sorry I did not get our waitresses name, however, our service was so excellent and she was so polite and kind it made for a wonderful evening. My boyfriend and I were looking for a nice outdoor area to get an appetizer and a drink when we came across this restaurant. It was about 6 pm on a Thursday evening and it was not busy at all inside and there were multiple open tables outdoor on the patio as well. We chose to sit outside on the nice outdoor patio. Our waiter who I believe was named Jason? Greeted us and we ordered a glass of wine each. He came back out to ask what appetizer we wanted and we went with a mozzarella dish called Caprese di bufala to split. We also received bread with oil and Parmesan which I love. The Caprese di bufala was absolutely to die for. It was a beautiful presentation and tasted so fresh and it was a good size for us to share. I would really like to give this place a 5 star because the food is amazing and it's a great place to sit outdoors. The one thing that made me give it a 4 was our waiter. Our waiter came out to ask what we wanted as an entree and we explained we wanted to just do the wine and app. We instantly could tell he was pissed because we weren't ordering a lot (my bf used to work in food and bev and we get it, it's annoying but we weren't hungry enough for a full meal). So instead of shrugging it off he went inside to talk to a customer sitting at the bar that he must have been friends with and proceeded to complain about all his tables. He faced out the window so I could clearly read his lips and pointed to each of his tables making comments and pointed towards us stating the guy in the blue shirt only put in an app. Etc. Made a weeknight reservation and the restaurant was not busy. Our server did not seem to know the menu, never came to clear plates in between courses, and gave off of a vibe that we were an inconvenience to her. The appetizer was very good, but the Cajun Chicken Pasta is better at Chilis. I was really craving some authentic Italian pasta and this tasted like it was nuked in the microwave. Came in for lunch not knowing what to expect. Great place, great food and service. I left a very happy (and full) customer. My date and I couldn't decide what we wanted, so we figured we'd try the mussel appetizer. You usually can't go wrong with P.E.I. mussels. Lo and behold, the the mussels in this dish were simply f***ing amazing, no other way to describe them. These divine shellfish were the largest mussels I have ever seen in my life. Epic. Huge. They came swimming in a tomato sauce with some grilled bread. I'm still trying to think of a superlative to describe how much I loved this dish. I took a picture of it (see for yourself) and was scolded by my date for being an Instragram hipster LOL~ the lengths I go to in order to make my reviews worthwhile ;) We also ended up getting a couple of caprese sandwiches (ordered before the mussels came out) for the main dish. Had we known how enormous the mussels were we could have easily split the sandwich. The tomatoes on the caprese were surprisingly flavorful for December, I'd love to know where they source their produce from. Overall the sandwich was decent- nothing that was outstanding, but still a solid dish. The sides of fries here are also delish. They have a nice wine list, we ended up relying on our server to help us navigate. She was really cool, totally laid back, and made the trip even more fun. I'd definitely come back here again. A very disappointing meal. I got the lemon shrimp pasta and it was essentially inedible. I like my food salty, but this was so salty that I could not have more than two bites. Not to mention it just straight up tasted bad! The description of the dish states that there's "jumbo shrimp" however the few pieces of shrimp in my dish were the smallest pieces of shrimp I've ever seen. I gave 3 stars based on food only. We've had dinner there twice over the last couple of months and have walked away saying we love the atmosphere and had excellent service, but the food is just ok. Our party of four each ordered a different pizza and all of them were over cooked and very dry. We ordered the goat cheese appetizer which was delicious as well as the Cotto salad which was also very good. We will try dinner again ordering pasta dishes and hopefully will be able to give a better star rating. read more

This place was always our favorite and we used to see the owners wife all the time and now when we go there the service is terrible, which the manager should have stoped at every table and let us know to be patient I think people would have understood, but the server told us it was the kitchen but while waiting a 1/2 hr for someone to come to take our order 3 tables of 2 ,3,and 4 just got up and left they waited to long, the food is still great but our dishes came 20 minutes apart especially angel hair pasta which only takes 4 minutes to cook and it came out last ,the managing needs to step up to the plate and fix this before it gets worse. read more

We visited at noon on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The outdoor seating was filled to about 1/2, indoor there was only 2 other tables with patrons. We were greeted with menus right away but didn't see our server for 10+ min with water. We ordered right away. The pastas were delicious and had generous servings. The flavors were overly rich and there was nothing to cut it like bread or a side salad. The entree salad was similar - intense flavor but nothing to cut it. Each and every bite. was. exactly. the. same. Our service was lackluster. After our initial 10 min wait, the server did not stop by again until the food was brought. Then, she didn't come again to check on us, our food, or if we needed more water. We flagged her down for our bill. I doubt we will visit again when there are so many other great restaurants nearby. read more

The best way to explain this place is that food is consistently great, and service is consistently bad. If you would like amazing Italian food this is a great place, however servers are not welcoming, appear annoyed, make you afraid to ask for anything I.e fork etc. also, if you like outdoor eating, there are umbrellas under the lights on patio and you will eat in pitch black, again, servers could careless when we mentioned it. The food at Cotto is delicious. We have enjoyed many excellent meals there over the years. In fact, it was where we chose to go for our "last meal out" before the first Covid restrictions were implemented in March 2020. During Covid, we paused our visits but would pick up our meals or have them delivered. We enjoyed dining outside there over the summer. Last night, we decided to pick up our order and I was dismayed and very disappointed to see their disregard for Covid restrictions. Indoor dining is not permitted at this time, yet there were 4 or 5 tables of indoor diners. Believe me, I have missed dining out and am eager for it to return. I understand the desire to gather with friends, support local businesses, and have a night out. And when those activities are safe for our community, I will do them. Having been to Cotto A Legna many times and enjoying the food, it was an easy decision to come here for Mother's Day dinner. Appetizers arrived quickly and were amazing. The entree's took over an hour. Our waiter was no where to be found, and witnessing many patrons leave due to the long wait was eyeopening. Yes, we are in COVID, but seems like they were short staffed, more interested in take out and internet orders than the patrons that were eating. read more

Before you haters say then don't go there, Cotto A Legna has a mandate by State statute to follow the rules until they are lifted. So yes patrons expect when they go here they are adhering to the mandates. They are putting everyone at risk and are not good citizens or Geneva neighbors. It came with some roasted cauliflower and "fingerling potatoes". As someone who cooks as a hobby - those potatoes were straight out of a can. This is a great restaurant, certainly the best Italian in the Chicago western suburbs. Both their pizzas and pastas are very good. A few years ago I had pappardelle with porcini mushrooms & truffle (real truffle!) to die for. They didn't offer it again since then (maybe truffles are not so popular here) but I am still thinking about this fish as one of the best I have ever had (and I spent quite a lot of time in Italy!)
