I have been thinking about writing my long over-due review. We badly needed a replacement for our 20-something futon and this place is a go-to. Found a queen-sized futon frame a few years ago and, more recently, a replacement for our old futon. They had a impressive number of styles in a variety of prices. We tried out a few, found what we wanted and they had it in stock so immediate gratification. Great experience, people are super patient and know their stuff. Overall, this place has been nice, aaaand there were very frustrating elements. Their staff is friendly. The people who helped me were mostly kind and patient. I struggle with them after some disorganization around a mattress exchange: I'd bought The Pearl initially and it gave me hip pain (which I've never had with any mattress) and so they kindly let me make an appointment to exchange The Pearl for another mattress. Because of Covid I had to schedule an appointment by phone for my exchange, which I did easy-peasy. But the day before my appointment it occurred to me to call them and actually make sure that they had the bed that I wanted in stock: The person on the phone who made my appointment hadn't verified that. When I called back, the salesperson said No, they didn't have the bed I wanted in stock actually. It feels like they should have been in charge of ensuring that they had the mattress I wanted in stock at the time that I initially set up the appointment for the exchange? But okay. The salesperson on the phone did tell me that while they didn't have the mattress I wanted in stock (for my appointment the next day, for which I'd already arranged a friend to drive an hour from her house to pick me up to use her car to transport the mattress) that they could sell me the floor model which they'd just set out very recently. Okay, fine. I'd already asked my friend to rearrange her schedule to do me a favor. That's fine. I'll take the floor model. When I got to the shop they informed me that they couldn't honor the 20% off Chinook coupon I'd used for the first bed on the second bed. I felt weird about that. Especially given that my friend was with me and if I'd just gone through the bureaucratic step of asking her to download (for free) the Chinook app on her phone we could have had another 20% off coupon and used it for the 2nd bed. I didn't do that because she was already doing me a favor by taking me to the shop in her car... and she was on a time crunch. It just seemed like a weird policy that was more bureaucratic than logical. Buying a $600 bed isn't a simple thing for me--it's a lot of money. So it made me sad they wouldn't just honor the coupon. Finally, the last frustration was that after I arrived, the salesperson informed me that actually the floor model they were going to sell me had tears in it. All across the mattress (The Woolspring) there is tufting to keep the materials in place. In the places where that tufting is, the mattress is tearing. In seeeeeveral places. Like 1 - 2 inch tears in the fabric. I'd already gone through alllll the trouble of asking my friend to help me and though it felt like a bad idea to me, I accepted the mattress even with the tears. They offered me 10% off for the tears. That didn't feel significant enough but I wasn't sure what to do: the salesperson said that was the most they could do. After a couple of months, it does appear the tears are getting larger. So after paying $600 for this mattress, I'm concerned about its longevity and concerned the tears will grow. So while I actually love the mattress, the process and price and condition/longevity felt frustrating. I want to love this place because it's local and has a long history, but buying from them hasn't felt the greatest. read more

Well, its about time for comments. I purchased a futon frame and mattress a few months ago. I gave it a good test run, along with help from family visitors. Result: Awesome! The selection process, delivery and set up were simple, easy to perform. the accompanying directions are accurate and easy to follow. The staff at Cotton Cloud were outstanding through the selection and assembly process AND! The comfort factor as sofa and as a bed is fantastic. Five Stars. But, this is my second buy at Cotton Cloud, two years ago I purchased a King Bed, Frame and Mattress. They remain the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Based on my experience, my daughter recently purchased a futon mattress. I used over Christmas.....Awesome. I hope that this business will take a look at their customer service during covid. I had a nice initial call with someone to arrange my purchase and they said we could do curbside pickup, just pull up to the loading dock and call and finalize payment when we arrived. Fantastic. When I arrived shortly after and called like they instructed, a different person answered the phone and got all snippy and exasperated when I said I was there to pay and pick up. It was so odd I seriously thought I must have dialed a wrong number but no. Then they said we had to come inside, and acted like pickup was never an option. It's a tiny store and was empty except for the workers who were all within earshot of one another. I understand they may not have their process worked out and their team may not have fully communicated with one another but don't understand why the phone call was so snippy when I was just there to pay and go. It was just weird. Glad I got what I came for but wouldn't feel good about returning. read more

I am in search of a new sofa. I walked in here because I had my car in the shop and it was close to walk to, to kill some time. They have mattresses and really nice Futons. I have no interest in either, but the guy who greeted me and showed me around was kind, knowledgeable, and approachable. I am seeking a traditional sofa couch not a futon, wanted to have a peek, to see what else they offered. They had a lot of nice options that are more updated than the former futon look/format. The cushions are high end quality. The showroom and sales floor were calm and nicely assorted. I wasn't a serious buyer, just a looker--but I do appreciate their hospitality. The mattress showing area was bright and cheery. They had a stand offering tea, snacks. I purchased a single lounger that folds out into a single size bed. A fantastic futon and was a last minute purchase because I had family coming to town. The young lady that helped me was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The store was great about honoring any deals (yelp in particular) with my purchase to give me the best savings. The futon is so super comfortable and I purchased the lower grade cushion/mattress. I liked the variety they have to offer. I really liked that the futon fit in my Sonata! the mattress went in the back seat all tied up and bagged neatly. The box (frame) went in my trunk. You might not believe me when I say this, I couldn't believe it myself but.....I put this sucker together in A HALF HOUR!!!! I opened the box and there were so many pieces and parts. I almost panicked because I had to pick up my family from the airport in an hour. "This will never be done in time" I thought! I whipped out my small power drill, a Phillips head, and a hammer and got to work. Baddah boom baddah bing....30 mins and the futon was put together and the bed was made for my guests. I will recommend this place to all my friends. I'm looking forward to purchasing a custom cushion cover to match the office this lounger resides in. Very happy customer!!! read more

Had a great buying experience in the store -The sales gal was super nice and put up with all my questions without acting annoyed (Yay!). After I placed my order, they called twice to let me know the status of my order. I purchased a simple frame with a privacy screen so we can have storage under the bed. We also purchased a King Size Pearl Futon Mattress which had to be made (since they did not stock the king size), but only took about 2 weeks to complete. I had the frame and mattress delivered and coughed up another $25 bucks to have the bed assembled for me - this was totally worth the money! The delivery/assembly guys were super friendly, too! After sleeping on the mattress for about a month, we are SO pleased with the purchase. The mattress is high quality and made locally! My review pertains to a purchase my wife and I made in December 2012. I waited a few months to decide before finally writing this. We purchased a futon mattress and frame. Our mattress was supposed to have organic cotton, wool, a low VOC foam core, and organic cotton shell. It was also six inches thick and was supposed to last 3-5 years, before permanent compression would set in, with daily use and monthly rotation. We live in Siletz, Oregon and drove 138 miles, one way, so we could have a sofa that would not make us ill with toxic off-gassing and pesticides. When we brought the mattress home, we discovered there was no wool inside and the shell, while supposedly organic, carried a tag that said it was a cotton/polyester blend. We called and they told us to bring the mattress back and they would make a new one. They explained the worker, who assembled our mattress, was not very reliable and would probably not last long. My wife drove the 138 miles, one way, to return the mattress, then drove 138 miles, one way, to pick up the replacement several days later. This time it was assembled correctly and with the proper materials. However, here we are four months later and, with proper rotation, the mattress is already compressing to the frame when we sit on it as a sofa. This store does not allow refunds so we are stuck with this uncomfortable mattress until we can save enough money to buy an actual sofa that is non-toxic. We wasted hundreds of dollars on the mattress, to say nothing of the fuel spent driving back and forth between Siletz and Portland. The only reason Cotton Cloud Futons does not get one star is because they actually offer organic furniture items. read more

I completely agree with everything that Kate already said. My significant other and I went into Cotton Cloud on a Tuesday -- we needed a futon delivered by Saturday because we had some friends coming into town. While we were talking with the salesperson we mentioned several times that we needed the futon by Saturday and that we were only going to buy mattresses or frames that would be available for delivery by that date. The salesperson was nice and helpful, and led us to believe that our selected futon would be delivered in a timely fashion so that our houseguests would have a place to sleep. We were supposed to receive a call from Cotton Cloud on Friday to confirm delivery on Saturday. There was no call. I called on Saturday morning only to find out that they had ordered the wrong frame, even though when we purchased the futon we were told that it was in stock. Delivery was promised for the following Saturday. (Our houseguests had cancelled anyway that Friday, so at least some of the disaster was averted.) The next week, expecting that the futon would be delivered at some point that Saturday, we once again cleared our schedules for a few hours to be at home when the futon was delivered. Again, I called Cotton Cloud and found out that their excuse this time was that the order for the futon had never been placed. We were told that this would be corrected on Monday, and that our futon would arrive, again, on the following Saturday. The futon was eventually delivered, two weeks late, because we called and complained and were given a floor model. I will never go to Cotton Cloud again. I felt like they were deceptive during the entire process. read more

I've been telling my boyfriend that I wanted a new futon mattress for at least the past 6 months, but when we moved to our new place this weekend I decided it was finally time. So we took a trip over to Cotton Cloud. The space was big and bright, with every mattress out on display, ready to be tested. The woman we worked with (the owner, as it turned out) handed me a price guide and started walking us through the store, explaining the differences between latex mattresses, cotton/foam mattresses, and everything in between. We tried out a bunch and settled for the organic cotton/foam core mattress. They didn't have it in stock, so we decided to get it delivered and set-up on Thursday. Honestly, I'm hoping I won't have to come back here for the next 5+ years, but that has nothing to do with the store. Over the last 15 years I've placed three orders with Cotton Cloud, and each experience has been increasingly less pleasant. There were multiple problems with the last two orders, but in the most recent case, they completely indifferent to resolving billing problems until I enlisted the help of my credit card issuer. My last two orders involved a combination of: 1) Not placing the order despite charging my CC 2) Double charging my CC 3) Delivering the item to the wrong address 4) Delivering the item two months later than originally promised 5) Requing repeated store visits and phone calls to correct issues that were wholly their fault I prefer shopping local, but I also prefer to do business with places that "care deeply about their customers" before they get a negative review on yelp. read more

Exceptional customer service and quality are to of the traits I admire in any business. I purchased one of their made-in-house foam mattresses and a bed frame from them 7 years ago. It's in great shape still and I love sleeping on it! Recently I moved my bed to another room and later I noticed one of the bolts had fallen out and I couldn't find it. Since it's part of the integrity of the frame I was a little concerned. However, upon calling Cotton Cloud they told me to take a photo, come on in and they would look me up in their system. Sure enough, they had me in their system and were able to identify which frame I had and find me the bolt I needed in their spare parts. I'm super pleased with the bed I love sleeping on and they helped me fix the missing piece... no charge! They asked if I needed a new bed... and I had to laugh because they sold me such a high quality mattress I won't need to be back for another 10 years! But I will be when it's time! read more

My review is purely based on our experience in the store, not the products since we unfortunately did not make a purchase. My husband and I were natural latex mattress hunting and since we recently moved to the area from California, I was very excited to check out a local business. Upon entering the store, we were greeted by an employee (Andrew, I believe his name was. Sorry, I'm embarrassingly horrible with names!) and he was more than helpful to show us their mattresses and futons. I found the latex mattresses to be comfortable and well constructed, and I fell in LOVE with a wool mattress topper. But then the problems began. My face started itching, my eyes, my legs, anything that touched the wool topper. Ok wait. My eyes obviously didn't touch the wool topper but they were definitely irritated. This totally bummed me out since I have never had an issue with wool before. And I am pretty adamant about getting a non toxic mattress (no foam, even if it's certi-pur) So obviously this was not the right store for us at the moment. BUT I will be returning to buy my husband a millet pillow. He fell in love! read more

Our first time purchasing natural beds and I couldn't be more pleased! We came in about a month ago with only a general idea of what we were looking for: two twins and a queen size mattress. Staff were very helpful from start to finish. In store, we received a lot of help trying out different mattresses and talking about various platform options. We bought a twin Hawthorne, a twin futon, and a queen Pearl. They have great beds for the whole family. We left with a couple of our items in our van and a few to be picked up later. Absolutely great experience. I wish I could remember our salesmans name - gentlemen had a stache/goatee and ended up delivering both items later that weekend as well. He was an EXCEPTIONAL salesman - left my wife and I alone to talk over the purchase and came back for further questions and clarification. I've been in Cotton Cloud twice now and have had a great experience both times. The first time, a nice woman helped me with futons. I was trying to decide about buying one for a spare bed for my basement. She was very patient with me and knowledgeable about their products. Ultimately, I didn't buy one, but the customer service was excellent. Today, I went in looking for a high quality pillow to help my tweaky neck and it ended up being like an episode straight out of Portlandia. The pillow I liked best was filled with millet and wool but as an ethical vegan, I don't buy/ use wool. When I mentioned this to the salesman, he immediately checked with the owner about the sustainability and humaneness of the local wool farm they source from. He returned to say that they were only wooling sheep and not slaughtering sheep and that they are pasture raised. He also mentioned that the owner cares a great deal about the ethics of their products. The salesman was very patient as I sprawled out on the beds with the test pillows in my various weird sleeping positions. I opted for the shredded latex pillow made from tree sap and an all millet pillow because I just didn't want to do the wool, but it's nice they have lots of great options! Hopefully one of the two pillows I bought will be the magic solution for my aching neck. Updated to add that I never heard from them about picking up the millet pillow from my order after a couple weeks so I finally called to see if it was in and they said it was. They claimed they had left me a voicemail, but when I went into the store, it turned out that they had entered my phone number in the computer off by one number. When I went to pick up the pillow, I double checked the label and they had given me one that had wool. Turns out that the salesman had ordered the wrong pillow in addition to inputting my phone number incorrectly. So they had to reorder a different pillow and I had to pay $5 more. Plus I had to drive there a third time when the the correct pillow finally arrived, which ended up not being great at all. The latex pillow also ended up changing and not being comfortable to sleep on all night, even though it had seemed good in the store. So it was expensive, inconvenient, and didn't help my neck at all. read more

Purchased a custom coil, latex and wool mattress. I already have one that I purchased for my son, so I knew it was exactly what I wanted. However this time I was ordering a custom size to go with a custom bed. When they delivered it, they could not manage the weight, so it was dragged across my front lawn and up the stairs, causing it to rip and become soiled. Their response when I called was that it did not happen, though I witnessed the whole thing. Finally managed to come to an agreement to sew it on site and vacuum the mattress, because I was ready to move on. A couple of days later when the frame arrived (and actually before when my husband mentioned the bed seemed short), we decided to measure the mattress, because it seemed small for the frame. I ordered a 72 x 80 and received a 70 x 78. When I called the store again to tell them the mattress was not the right size, she told me I was wrong and that it appeared that nothing they do could make me happy. But there i was, with the measuring tape. Well, yes, a proper delivery and the right size would make me happy. I paid $2600 for this and am not happy. I will not return and will no longer sing the praises of cotton cloud futon to friends. Quite the contrary. read more

We're quite picky about the company we buy from - that the company should be local but most importantly should be supportive of it's own community and ethical in it's choice of products and treatment of employees. Doing my research, Cotton Cloud met that mark so we gave them a shot. Since then, we've purchased quite a few things over the years - from a custom chosen all rubber bed of varying densities, to custom-made chair cushions for an older chair my wife wanted to rock the kids in. They've always done an excellent job with our orders, and sometimes they have great sales as well. I've found the employees to be very real people, honest and down to earth, and willing to talk the practical realities of your questions. I've never felt deceived, or up-saled, or pressured. Nothing but good experience here, and I always look here first if I'm not building the furniture myself! read more
