Poor execution of a good idea. My server didn't seem to grasp removing of empty plates or getting an answer to a question. The meatloaf isn't bad but the burgers are a generic frozen low quality patty. I asked before if the burger was fresh or frozen and my answer was "that is a good question." Abandon all hope ye who enter here for a speedy lunch. Hour wait for your food is a bit ridiculous. Place is understaffed. People waiting for tables and empty tables abound. Yesterday I placed a curbside order at Cotton Patch store in Temple, TX at 11:00am to pick up at 2:30pm. I received my confirmation for the order and at 2:00pm when I'm on my way to get my order I received an email stating that my order didn't go through and it wouldn't be ready. I called the store and they were out of the plate I had ordered. Today at 11:00am again I placed my curbside order to pick up at 2:00pm. At 1:39pm when I am on my way to the store I received another email stating that my order wouldn't be ready because it never went through. I called the store again with the intention of placing the order over the phone again since I am on my way to the store and they informed me that they were out of that specific plate. What's wrong with you Cotton Patch? How can you treat your regular customers this way? How irresponsible of Corporate and upper management to allow the Temple, TX store treat their regular customers with so much disrespect. Our waitress Lily was the best! The rolls were warm and soft. The salads were plentiful and so fresh, the chicken fried steak was huge and so good! Everything met or exceeded our expectations! I stop in Cotton Patch [Temple] about once a year or so, hoping with all hope it's gotten better, only to find it's gotten worse! I stopped in today. The waitress [Tess R.] took my order. I asked if the ice tea was fresh, to which she replied yes. When I FINALLY got the tea, I quickly discovered she lied. The tea had soured and was undrinkable. I asked for a Coke to replace it. No apology was offered for the horrid tea. I should have walked out then. I ordered chicken fried steak, black-eyed peas, and mashed potatoes, as well as a side salad. The food arrived, without the salad. [which should have came BEFORE the meal] The food itself was inedible, as has always been my experience. If I had not been extremely hungry, I would have walked out without attempting to eat what was offered. The waitress, Tess, then came by again and asked how the food was. I again told her it was sub-standard and only hunger kept me in my seat. Her answer was incredible. Tess basically told me that "at least it was on sale today, and I saved $3 and that should make it better" Frankly I didn't know what to say that wouldn't have led to a profanity laced rant, so I just waved her off. By this point Tess should have understood I was less than pleased and just wanted to be left alone to finish what I could and leave. She actually came by and asked me if I had "room for desert' saying that might make it all "OK"! I asked her if she was for real! She said she was required to ask. Common sense would tell you that asking an angry customer to purchase more, without offering to make good on the first purchase is not only bad form, it's ridiculous! I've never been the subject of such incompetence in my life. Horrible food, inept, indifferent service, and an all around "don't give a damn about the customer" attitude. I was visibly angered as I payed my bill. At no time did anyone even attempt to make things right. This will be the last time I ever attempt to eat at Cotton Patch. I will also make sure all of my many friends know about my consistently horrific experiences over the years. You should be ashamed of yourselves for serving such rotten food, combined with such poor service. You shouldn't be in business with this sort of low grade of an effort. read more

Best thing about Cotton Patch in Temple was Charitey, our server! Kind, friendly and professional! It was a joy being there. Both the Chicken Fried Steak and the Chicken Fried Chicken were tasty and very good. They serve you a nice warm bread with butter that we finished. He had the Dr.pepper cake, was awesome but my salad omg!, can u say if i want it soggy and over dressed i would have asked for extra dressing... This is a well managed restaurant and the food is always great. The wait staff is always checking on you and refilling you drinks.

A few months ago we ate there and had gotten food poisoning. We definitely will not be going back. So bad.

Fried mushrooms are to die for. Daily specials, Great Chicken Fry, Squash and mashed potatoes. Always have great service and good food.

I've been here before, it's been OK, nothing great. This last visit was terrible. Whatever you do don't order the Shiner Bock fried fish and chips. They don't cook it firm. and Greassssyyyyyyy. I asked them to take it back and cook it more well done instead of trying to eat it so soggy. Not crispy at all... gross. Very nice young lady at the hostess station greeted my wife and me right away and showed us to our table. 10 minutes later a waitress finally showed up to take our drink orders. We asked for Coke0 since it is listed in the menus; however, she told us it was not available. We ordered different drinks instead. Ordered fried pickles as an appetizer and they were okay. Ordered our meals and that went downhill fast. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak with garlic mashed potatoes, and broccoli rice casserole. The chicken fried steak was good sized, but over breaded. It tasted like pure salt and flour. The garlic mashed potatoes were not flavorful at all. They did not have any garlic flavor at all, nor any flavor for that matter. We used Cotton Patch to cater a wedding for 60 on New Years Eve. We were given a very reasonable price for an entrée of 1/2 baked chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, bead, & tea. We had checked several places in the Belton/Temple area, this was by far the best deal, and they did not charge us an additional fee for "holiday" service as many of the other places required. Included were all the condiments & utensils. The manger, Walter kept in close contact with us and sent staff out to the venue several days before the event to plan delivery and set up. They arrived early on the day of the event, assisted with last minute wedding preparation that had nothing to do with catering and had the food ready to be served on time. Almost a total disappointment. One of our dining party's food was old and bland. In particular the sauteed mushrooms. My burger was raw and under-seasoned in the middle despite requesting well done. Bacon wasn't fully cooked. Fries were cold. Waitress brought out dirty plates, and not enough to go round for our bread. Fried green tomatoes were served in a half size portion despite requesting full order. Waitress was slow at attending to us. She was cordial, but manager mentioned sitting us outside of her assigned section which made no sense. The manager was kind enough to knock off a little of the bill for the shoddily prepped entrees, but sadly we regulars may not come back due to the stomach upset which ensued. A complimentary Peptobismol to go would have been much appreciated. Very sad for us because this one of the few remaining good dining options in Temple which we frequented and bragged about to out of towners. read more

Stopped in Temple mall and had lunch at Cotton Patch Cafe. The service was good, the food was decent. I had the Grilled Cajun Duo which is normally made with tilapia but I swapped It for catfish. The fish was seasoned well but the shrimp and crawfish sauce that went over the fish...the shrimp were hard and overcooked. (Hence the 4 stars). Overall It was a good experience. read more

We went to eat there after church and the place was filthy. The tile and bricks were black with grime and sticky. We were taken to the table and the back of my chair had caked on food, the seat had ketchup and the chair supports had large pieces of food on them. My son who is a year and 9 months was a little fussy when we got there and our waiter instantly was talking to him and nice as could be to us and him he didn't like it was an inconvenience at all as most parents know waiters do when a child is cranky. I was very skeptical about going here after the reviews I read online. However, we were going to a movie at Temple Mall, and it was the only option within our time frame. We were seated very quickly and our server was with us taking drink and appetizer orders in no time. She was very knowledgeable regarding the menu options, alternatives, spiciness of the food and beer list. For an appetizer we got the cheese sticks which were very tasty and fresh with a crunchy outside, and the quesadilla which my husband really liked. Both were too much for one person - I would suggest sharing! :) My husband got the Turkey Club for his meal - it looked really yummy (he liked it) and the fries were cooked perfectly. I got the blackened tilapia on rice with a side of salad and sauted mushrooms. My fish was cooked really well, though I would have preferred a bit more lemon with it. Rice was basic rice pilaf, which I enjoy. Mushrooms needed a bit more flavour but OK and house salad was pretty good. I will definitely be back here now that I know - there are quite a few other things on the menu I want to try! read more

I have given up on decent service in Temple, Tx. Unless I go to a nice restaurant. Server thinks my aunt asked for quieter noice, she asked for water no ice. However, things looked better. THEN she passes our table as she seemed to be glancing over her section to see that we were all doing well. My other aunt needed a refill. I was still waiting on my croutons that I ordered when she took our meal orders. Then a table comes into her section. Apparently this table works there, or knows a few of the employees. Our server was chatting away. So I go to the counter to ask for my croutons. Three employees, backs to me, quickly turn around as I said, "excuse me", "one of you", in a stern, perturbed voice. They all turn around, and I asked for croutons and stated that I had been waiting quite awhile. I then turned around and marched back to the table. Right after, an employee in a gray zipper jacket that fit like sausage casing slides them on to the table as he is already turning around to walk away. As to say, if you can be rude, I can too. He obviously doesn't understand the reason this company is in business or his job. My aunt still in need of a refill, I look up and our server is chatting with her table of friends/co-workers, what ever they are, and the employee in his sausage casing is over there too. So I go to the counter to get my aunts refill. The manager happens to be there at that time. He apologizes, and I explain that in addition to serving our table, that I did not appreciate the employee in sausage casing be rude about bringing my croutons. The manager comes over to explain that we can have our free appetizer coupon to use again, while still giving us the free appetizer. Nice gesture, but the coupon expires on the 28th. Today is the 26th. I don't live in Temple. I wasn't paying either. Perhaps my relatives will return, but who would return that quickly, especially after delayed, rude, and incompetent service? read more
