Had a great experience having a manicure here yesterday. Called last minute and they just happened to be having a slower day after the holiday weekend. They fit me in within the hour and the girl who manicured me was super sweet. Talkative when initiated and a delight to talk to while having one of the best colours I've experienced. I recommend the "Vegas vixen" for a pop of killer colour on a couple of nails. Great colour! The stylist was also friendly and was great to speak freely with...all around good experience. I came here with a Groupon for a shellac manicure. My first impression was mixed, the salon is adorable and in a great location if you work or live downtown but my welcome was less than impressive - a woman (who I later found out was the owner) came out and without interest asked me my name. She disappeared for a minute, came back, asked me my name again (apparently I AM that forgettable!) and told me I would be seeing a different manicurist than the one originally booked. No problem... My manicurist was very nice but very quiet, i tried to initiate conversation several times but it seemed like she was concentrating on her work so I just left her to it. It was probably the quietest I have ever been since I said my first words way back in the '70s! I had mentioned on the phone that I needed shellac removal. This was done completely by hand with no acetone, just a nail file and a lot of elbow grease. I cringed when it was done, my nails looked wrecked and there were still spots of old polish but she carried on and applied new polish over it. The manicure itself was only so-so, polish wasn't applied all the way to the cuticle so there's a noticeable gap and the tips weren't filed evenly so they're kinda weirdly shaped. There are bubbles in the polish on a few nails and although it's only been 2 days since my visit, polish is already chipping from the corners. I have a hangnail that is driving me crazy and a cut on my finger from the frenetic filing/shellac removal. If I hadn't gotten such a good deal with the Groupon I'd be livid...I will likely need a redo in a week or so once my hands heal a bit but I it probably won't be at Couleur Du Vin. 2.5 stars because the salon is cute and the manicurist was nice. read more

I checked the Yelp reviews before buying a Groupon for this place and decided they seemed ok enough for the price, but oh boy do I regret that decision! The woman doing my mani/pedi seemed like she had never done one before! Half-assed scrub and massage, horribly uneven filing job (she didn't file my toenails at all until I insisted when I realized she she was about start applying basecoat without doing that!) and super messy polish application. The polish on my hands was so thick and messy that I ended up asking her to just remove it's before I left the salon. I had already been there nearly 3 painful hours (!) and had no more time to wait around for it to be redone. On top of that, they charged me GST on top of the Groupon. Maybe that's legit, but I have never encountered it before with a Groupon. Resist the too good to be true Groupon deals and avoid this place. read more

I came here to get my acrylic nails removed. I figured I would skip getting my nails done this month so I could save money for Christmas. I really liked the salon and how it was set up and was greeted right away. I was kind of surprised by the price at the end and wished I would have called ahead to ask. Most nail salons will do free removal as long as you got them done there and I've never had anyone charge me more than $25 just to remove them and put a clear coat of nail polish. It ended up being $42 for the removal and just a clear coat. One of my cuticles started bleeding during but I didn't mind too much because I know it's kind of a rough process to get them completely filed off... but by the next day nearly all of my cuticles scabbed and that's never happened to me before anywhere so it was a lot rougher than I even realized. Kind of disappointed I paid more for that service than I have anywhere else and my cuticles are also in worse shape than I've experienced anywhere else. I could have just got a new set at certain places for what I paid for removal so make sure you call ahead for pricing! read more

Recently bought a groupon with a friend for a facial/mani/pedi package. We arrived on time for our appointment and were told that one of the aestheticians called in sick so they were a bit behind. Which normally would be no problem. But it was getting a little ridiculous after we sat and waited for a full hour. We had been planning to go for lunch after so if they were honest with us from the beginning we would have had no issue heading down the block for a bite while they caught up. The facial was nice. But they left us sitting with some stuff on our face for a long period, while they were obviously doing other things. Only one lady came back in and said she would be finishing both of the facials. The pedicures followed, which were the best part. One gal (named Shaelyn possibly?) was going back and forth between my friend and I, which was fine. She was lovely and was doing the best she could due to the situation. And the other lady esthetician joined us after she finished with another women's haircut. Then we were moved to the manicure table where one lady did both of our nails (possibly the owner? I never caught her name.) She was obviously in a hurry at this point as there were other people waiting again for a long period. We started to feel like a pretty big inconvenience. The quality of the manicure wasn't the best and the result mediocre.. Our appointment was supposed to be at noon and we finally left around 430pm. I understand that these things happen, especially on a busy Saturday during flu season. But it could have been handled much better if they had been more upfront about the situation. Or possibly even cancelling an appointment in advance instead of being crazy rushed and compromising on service for the entire day.. For the amount I paid for the groupon the results were acceptable. But if I had paid full price I would have defiantly been disappointed. read more

My boyfriend booked me the full spa package for my 30th birthday, and it was the most amazing day of pampering. The ambiance and decor of this salon and spa is amazing as well! (I DO have to say that Leah is the best stylist/colorist I've ever had!!!!!! She did exactly what I wanted, even offered suggestions about my cut/color that ended up looking amazing!! ) My day started off with my cut and color (tons of foils), then champagne and amazing pastries from Dauphine ' s Bakery down the street, a parrafin pedicure, 90 minute couples (chocolate!) massage, and parrafin manicure. I've never felt so pampered in my life, and would recommend this to any husband/boyfriend as a gift, or even a ladies' day out! I absolutely love this salon, and Leah is a gem. She is very experienced and capable, and has twice now saved my but from a bad haircut. I've learned my lesson and will be returning to her for all of My haircut needs in the future. I always leave feeling happy and loving my hair(which is high praise from me, as I am EXTREMELY picky about my hair). Like others on this site, beware the GROUPON!! I bought a Groupon for a 60 minute massage, but when I arrived at the salon found out my massage wasn't going to be done by a registered massage therapist (RMT), but rather by an esthetician! Oh, and it wouldn't be a therapeutic massage, but a relaxing massage. I went because I have a lower back injury and I didn't need a relaxing massage. I contacted CFO Corey Nash who told me they don't have any RMT's on staff. She had no explanation why I wasn't told this when I booked my massage, and when I pointed out the website references RMTs she said that is by request only. NONE of that information is in the Groupon fine print, which it should be if there are such restrictions and limitations. I felt deceived and would never go to this salon again if that is how they are trying to build their customer base...by omitting critical information about their services. read more

Went to this spa, for a mani/pedi recently. They'd accidentally double-booked me and then expected me to hang out because they couldn't leave the other person the'd already started working on. As a result two different people worked on me. Like another reviewer, I felt the person who did my pedi had no formal training, and was going thru the motions, but more like a high-schooler would do at a sleepover party. She took out a scrub tool but didn't use it as though she were trying to get the dead skin off and smooth out my feet, but rather like she'd been told " you take this tool and scrub the bottom of the person's foot for a minute or two." Trimming and shaping wasn't too bad, but there wasn't much to do. There was no massage. I believe this was the owner/manager's daughter. The mani came from the owner/manager. Not sure if it was a deliberate effort to save polish or what, but the two coats were so thin (she'd wipe the brush off on the bottle's edge until there was virtually no polish left and then apply it to my nails) I suspect they was less polish than a normal single coat anywhere else. I think she also needs to invest in some "reader glasses", as she didn't seem to notice some missed spots or straggling nail shaving still attached, though attended to them when I pointed out the problems. Nice people but more training and attention to detail is a must. My mani didn't last even 24 hours, and I was extremely careful about hand usage, even avoided using my nails at all when I washed my hair. read more

I just went there for the first time, but it will not be my last! I might even start treating myself to mani-pedi days regularly instead of special occasions. Great atmosphere, awesome staff and the pedicure chair soak tubs were wonderful! I've tried a lot of day spas that were so-so, but this one is now at the top of my list. I'll start by stating I've had 1 good and many bad experiences with salons since I do have long curly hair..but I decided to treat myself hoping for the best with a groupon they had for: Haircut, single process color, scalp massage and style for $60 I booked 2 weeks in advance. Once I entered I was greeted casually and told to wait a couple minutes while my stylist finishes up with a client. I was nicely offered drinks but once I sat in that hair salon chair I was very much annoyed to find out that I was going to have to pay another $60 for dying my whole hair one color because apparently " single process color" means only the roots ???? Anyways after booking 2 weeks in advance and being dropped off without a car to just drive away, I decided to accept the fee. That was a huge piss off especially when you buy Groupons to save yourself money but end up spending what I would've going to any other hair salon. Second off I don't want to discredit my stylist she was friendly, and tried her best. but unfortunately the end results were not what I wanted...I wanted a chocolate brown and got a brown black and before I started my hair was a natural cinnamon color (long curly hair 3B type) also not to mention my hair cut...the front of my hair had been razored cut to short and was unfortunately way shorter in the front from the few back pieces left.... I had stated I only wanted 1" inch off and wanted to keep the length and add layers but only 1" off the layers. I was sad about how short my hair looked in the front compared to a few bit of length pieces in the back, since it does take time to grow curly hair but whatever..not to much of a concern because I guess hair grows back right? Anyways after leaving I thought maybe the hair dye would fade out to the color I requested but after shampooing my hair with a clarifying shampoo 5 times it's still a brown black... so I decided today to call the salon to see if they could help fix this problem and after calling the first time and being told the manager would call me back after 1-2 hours I waited .... didn't get a call back. So after 3 hours I decided to call back and attempt to speak with the manager again. Finally once she was placed on the phone no offence to her but she seemed to not care about the problem and that I should figure it out my self and that theirs no way it could be the color it was because the colors they used weren't close to a black...and that they would have to see it in person. And that they only do the bleaching method.. which was a huge no no for me! I asked if they did the eraser method or protein treatment which are less harsh processes on my hair that aren't bleaching. but she said no ones does those at their salon and the best she could do was call a sale rep from redken (hair dye company) to ask them what I should do... and if she doesn't get back to me right away not to feel ignored..that was when i realized this salon didn't care for me as a customer because they already got their money so they could careless in making sure I was happy or how I felt about this huge hair color difference And the fact she didn't wanna take responsibility that while in her salon one of her stylist had accidentally coloured my hair brown black and acted as if it was impossible to what I was explaining. I offered to go on FaceTime or whatsapp to prove it. So now I'm left in the dark waiting who knows how long for a call back to find out apparently a more natural method to fade away this dark black coloured hair.... which I still feel is unfair for me since it's the salon's fault and they should be helping me correct this themselves. I don't wanna change anyone's judgement in coming to this salon but make sure if you go to any salon that they guarantee to help you out once they make mistakes on your hair, and can provide you with many less damaging options for your hair. I guess for me... again another lesson learned! I will never be coming back nor spread good words about this salon from my experience I had with them and after was horrible customer service. read more

When I first arrived, there was no one around and no bell to ring or anything. Waited about 5 mins, past the time time my appointment was supposed to start and finally someone came out. Then I was told the person who would be helping me was 20 minutes behind so I would have to wait. No problem, waited between 20-30 minutes. Then the girl who was doing my nails appeared. I wish I had caught her name to include here but she hardly spoke to me at all so that didn't happen. She was quite stern with me and while I was picking the colour was complaining about how someone should have given me the colours to look at when I arrived. Once we got started she said to me that we would have to make it quick since her next client was already there. It was the fastest manicure of my life, not in a good way. Some of my nails have uneven colouring and look like they could have used another coat, but she was in too much of a rush to care. Overall, I felt that she was rude, impatient and hostile towards customers and shouldn't be in a customer service industry. I get that she was behind schedule, but that wasn't my fault and my experience shouldn't be effected by that. Wouldn't recommend and won't be going back. read more

I went here for a highlights touch up, specifically to remove the roots, using a Groupon coupon. I paid over $150, which includes $85 for the Groupon rate, plus $45 charge for highlights on the back of my head, plus a $15 tip (this included hair cut and blow dry too). The stylist was polite. However, when she was blowdrying my hair, I was made to wait an extra 20 or so minutes so she could do (what appeared to be a walk in) male hair cut. Not too big of a deal I suppose, but not cool. The reason I give this place a low score is because I specifically asked her to give me highlights as close to the roots as possible, yet there seemed to be about a cm (or more) of root left. Other places I've been to were able to get closer. I didn`t realize how bad the roots were until I was able to examine them closer at home. I called to see if she could fix this and she said that is as close as she can get so I could get an all over colour but she would charge full price. So, unless I pay again, I'm basically left looking like I need a touch up again after I just spent over $150 to get them done. :( read more

Worst nail experience of my life. I went in with a friend before her wedding. There were three of us and none of us left happy with our nails. It took an hour for them just to remove my old shellac. I asked for French tip shellac and it was obvious the girl doing my nails had never done French tip before. I had to talk her through how to apply the white tips on my nails. The nail shape was awful, the white tips were uneven, blurry and ugly and my nails were weak and bendy when she finished. My friend who also got French tip left with chuncks of her old pink shellac color showing though. The worst part is half way through my appointment the girl doing my nails literally said to me " I'm sorry your nails look so bad" .... like what am I supposed to say to that? I went on to be charged 66 dollars despite being told it would be 50 before the appointment. I had to go get them redone else where the next morning. This place was friendly but very unprofessional and unskilled. Don't waste your time (our appointment took 2 and a half hours in total) or money. I also bought the groupon for the mani/pedi package. Overall it was very similar to my other spa experiences. I showed up quite early by accident, and they got me started right away, which was great. However the mani/pedi took two hours, so it was a good thing I showed up half an hour early, or else the spa would have closed before they were finished. I had no problems with the quality of the service, other than being a bit slow. The chair for the pedi was rickety and hard to adjust for the aesthetician. A friend had bought me a groupon for a manicure at this spa as a gift for university graduation. When I showed up for my appointment it seemed like a cozy little spa with a good atmosphere in a great downtown location. I found the lady helping me to be a little hostile and quiet but that wasn't a problem to me as I'm not super chatty anyways. The manicure however, I was not thrilled with. I asked for a white/neutral and left with a sparkly clear shellac that was no where close to the sample nail I picked. I felt like the whole thing was rushed. After paying and leaving I looked at my hands closer and I could see that my cuticles and nails didn't look much better than when I had arrived. They were still very rough looking. I ended up going home, taking off the polish, and fixing my hands myself. After reading the reviews on here it's clear I should have read them before I went and lowered my expectations. It's a great location and a cute atmosphere, but the quality isn't there. I won't be returning. read more

We went here for our nails for my friends wedding. I was the one who booked the appointment, and they offered the time of 5pm. It was not specified that it was "past salon hours", the appointment took way longer than it should have taken. They had one (poorly working dremel) to remove nails, were very inexperienced, the nail shape was uneven, it took over 2.5 hours for a sub par job. The esteticians seemed like they were students, (which is fine but not what we paid for). There was still old shellac on my friends nails, and honestly by the time we were done- we were all hungry and extremely unhappy. Went and got them fixed the next day (at another salon) I would never go back here, and I'm so upset I wasted time and money on my friends wedding nails. I have been coming here for almost 2 years now and absolutely love it. Leah is such a knowledgeable hair stylist. From the very beginning, she advised me on how to maintain my hair as it was quite damaged. She offered suggestions as well. Her products (specifically the L'Anza line) worked well for me and there is a noticeable improvement in the health of my hair. Just recently, I called in to announce that I wanted a hair colour change. Leah was able to book me right away and she took her time to explain to me the ups and downs of bleaching my hair. We went through with it and Leah spent almost 4 hours doing just my foils! I was so happy with the result! I have also gotten waxing done here and the service is amazing! Went to see Mel for a colour and cut. She gave me a beautiful summer ombre and added some gorgeous layers to my hair. Mel is personable, fun, and easy to talk to. She also doesn't rush; she takes the time needed to perfect your hair and ensures you're happy with it before leaving the salon. So long as she's in Edmonton, I won't be seeing anyone else! read more
