Definitely one of the best BBQ spots I've had. We usually stop by when we head to Dallas from Houston. If you're on I-45, stop by. It's a small hole in the wall place which usually are some of the better places for a bite. I recommend the chopped beef sandwich and the baked potato with the chopped beef. I travel to Houston every 2 weeks. I always stop for bbq on my way back home. This place is ok. The sauce was very very sweet. I love sweet sauce, but with a little tang to it. This is more just melted sugar with some spices. I got the 2 meat combo plate. Nice size, but the sliced beef was very dry. The ribs were not fall off the bone, but not bad. I dislike potato salad, but I ate all of mine from here. So they have killer potato salad if you want that. I frequent Woody's also. This place is not worse or better than Woody's. Woody's meat is dry also. Woody's sauce is worse than this place though. At least it seems like they make their sauce in house. Woody's is served cold and taste pretty on par with Arby's fast food sauce. I got my bbq fix, but most likely won't be back. The lady that took my order was very polite, and nice. read more

My father had cancer and I drove him from Fort Worth to Houston regularly back in the late 90s for his treatments. On one trip to pick him up in Houston I went to CC's when their shack was next to the old gas station that used to be across the street. It was an accident that I ordered the ribs and was blown away by how they fell off the bone and were really fatty. On another drive when I had my father in tow, losing weight from chemo, we stopped and I got him a slab to try. He was a Texas historian, food, culture writer. He knew his stuff about BBQ, chicken fried steak and Tex-Mex. He ate the entire slab in my truck in 15 minutes. In his opinion they were some of the best ribs he'd ever had. Sadly, these days I cook better ribs at home. The last two times in two years I've ordered (and talked friends on our trips into pulling over) the ribs haven't been cooked long enough. They don't fall off the bone anymore. They've lost their wetness. They're dry, stringy, matter of fact, tonight one of the ribs was chewy dry jerky. Sad to say I'm done with Country Cousins. Don't know what happened, but a business that has stayed in a shack for as long as they have, there might be a reason . . . 3 stars for sentimental reasons . . . read more

Before today I have recommended this place to everyone I could. But after today I will not recommend it to everyone and put it here too. Their service was not very good at all today. My son and I ordered turkey legs. I ordered first plus 4 chopped beef sandwiches. My son decided to order one more turkey leg separately. While waiting for our orders this tall man orders and who I think is the owner greats him. I was watching them finish my order and this man said to the lady and the owner "you have turkey legs" they said yes and the man said he wanted one. They finish my order and give it to me. I see the man paying for the turkey leg and I tell my son "They are going to give your leg to that man, remind them you are waiting". I went to the car and left the food and I came back in to use the rest room. I tell my son again to remind them about your leg. He tells me its OK if they give him the leg he is waiting for they will just heat up an other one for me. As I am waiting for him outside he come out with nothing in his hands. He tells me they gave him his money back because they had to give his leg to someone who had ordered online and it was the last one. I should have returned my order and demanded my money back. And told them how messed up it was what they had done and that I had witnessed everything that had happened. I decided to put it here where everyone can read it. I will never buy anything from them again and I will tell my story to everyone. read more

Stopped in here on our way back to Dallas from Houston. I had the ribs, sliced beef, and coleslaw. Girlfriend had the sausage, ribs, potato salad, and beans. Overall the ribs and sausage had good flavor. The sliced beef was too cold to eat so I took it with and had it the next day for breakfast, it was okay. The potato salad and beans were pretty good, but I've had better. Wasn't a fan of the coleslaw at all. The ribs were well cooked, perfectly bite through with good flavor. The barbecue sauce as others have stated was lackluster and could do with a little more spice. Overall I would not stop in here again for I know there's better BBQ in the area. read more

Right across the street from a major gas station/BBQ pit, the food at this place wins me over not by appearance, but RIGHTEOUS BBQ. Looks like an old, small shack and you walk right up to the window for ordering off the menu located right above. To the left is a smaller shack, screened all around where the magic of the taste simmers and smokes. The pork ribs are delectably smoked, flavorful, tender and easy on the teeth - fall right off the bone. The chopped BBQ sandwich is hefty in portion (available with wheat bun, too) and all the meats are trimmed perfectly so you don't get bite after bite of fat. Their baked potatoes are proud in size and you won't require more butter (mmmmmm), cheese or other fixings. You can also top it with your choice of meat, if preferred. Mustard potato salad isn't quite my pick, but this one was the best I ever had. It was nicely whipped and contained. just a bit of red pepper, very small bits and portion of pickle and just enough of chopped potato chunks for texture. The BBQ sauce is a bit on the sweet side, if you like that, but if it's a kick you want to add, just pour a bit of the spicy BBQ sauce from Woodys across the street. You certainly buy more for a buck here. Perhaps one of the best BBQ I have had in Texas. read more

We have stopped here frequently for more than 10 years, as we have close relatives in Nacogdoches. The service has never been what you call friendly (very occasionally so), but the bbq is pretty good, though too sweet. They built a new sit down restaurant replacing the "walk up and order" building of the original. My husband and I stopped to pick up a to-go order here and were just flabbergasted at the inefficiency and no personality of the staff. They write down your name on a pink sticky note when your order is taken, so we waited for them to call our name. And waited. And waited. Almost 30 minutes later, we look at each and my husband asks if they have our order ready. After looking around a bit the person points to wrapped BBQ sandwiches just laying on the counter. No one put them in a bag, no one called our name. We were rather perturbed. The BBQ is good, but not THAT good that we're willing to put up with uncaring service. A suggestion, folks...write to-go orders on a different color sticky so they can be easily identified, and for Pete's sake, please teach your staff to be Texas friendly and mannerly. The folks across the street do greet you with a smile and a welcome when you walk in. Take a tip from your competition and step up your game a bit. read more

Stopped here on a trip to Dallas. Its located across from gas station/BBQ pit on the north bound side of 45. Don't let the looks of the place fool you, the food is delicious! I had a chopped beef sandwhich, it was one of the best chopped beef sandwiches that I've had in a long time. The sauce is a little sweet so ask for it on the side.
