The first thing that hits me when I walk in is a disgusting mold smell that reminds me of the bilge on my boat, the second thing I see is mismatched flickering florescent lights then my table feels sticky. Also the Ac unit looks 50 years old and on a 75 degree day it is hot and stuffy in there. I reluctantly stopped into Country Heroes this weekend with no other options and being crunched for time. After taxes my Hero was just under 12$ , 11.95 i believe. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was filling and everything on it including dressing was perfectly portioned and the bread was great, the not so secret ingredient to a good hero. Things aren't cheap these days and i get that, but walking away feeling you don't get what you paid for is the worst, that wasn't the case here, ill be back in my work travels again. I ordered the vegetarian hero with "the works" and was expecting something great. It was literally just lettuce and tomatoes with dressing on a hero. That is not a sandwich, it's just garnish! To the owners: I understand that you probably think vegetarians only eat salad but that is not true. At least make some sort of effort to make a decent vegetarian option. Maybe add peppers, mushrooms, eggplant, avocado, cheese, etc. I probably should have asked what was in the hero, but I can assure you, nobody wants to eat a lettuce and tomato sandwich. Nobody. My husband ordered a chicken hero which he said was good, and the place was very busy with locals, so I assume their meet options are tasty. I would make recommendations on what I love: Their honey mustard is delicious and their garlic bread special with roast beef is amazing (get extra gravy if you are feeling compelled to be stuffed), but I have never had anything that was not good here.
