Country Kennels put them together and we were allowed to bring their beds. I paid extra to have them outside in the grassy area each day. We went to visit and we were sold immediately. Spacious for any size pets, they have a private run, and indoor to stay out of heat or cold. The staff is always so welcoming and my dog loves to go stay for her vacation time. She likes to stay in her private room that has an indoor/ outdoor access and where she can also visit with her neighbors if she feels like socializing. Sometimes she just likes to watch the closed circuit doggy TV and be lazy. This is why we add the daily play time to her routine too so she gets some extra exercise. This was my first time boarding my dog, Leah, at Country Kennels and I was VERY happy (so was my dog which was more important!) I was going out of town for a week and was nervous about leaving my 12 year old dog at the (well known) Kennel I'd used before. She has Cushings Disease and I was concerned about her getting too stressed out at the other facility. When I used to pick her up (from the other kennel) she was always hoarse from barking so much and I didn't like the fact that they had to eat, sleep, poop and pee in the same little kennel "cell". I found Country Kennels online and decided to drive out there unannounced to check it out (and I brought Leah with me). They were extremely friendly and offered to watch Leah up front while I got a tour of the facility. The FIRST thing I noticed was that each Kennel had it's own dog run! So my dog could sleep in her bed indoors, but go thru the doggy door and go outside and do her business whenever she wanted. LOVED that! She was there for almost 7 days and I paid extra to have her bathed right before pick up. Needless to say, she was NOT hoarse from barking (a good sign!) and they did a great job with her bath! One last thing, she was diagnosed with an ear infection at the Vet, the DAY before I was supposed to leave! So stressful. But when I explained that she would need ear drops and ear cleaning each day, they were totally fine with that and sure enough when I picked her up, her ear infection was completely gone (verified by the Vet) so I know they took her treatment seriously. We have been using Country Kennels for years. We got disillusioned with another place closer to central Poway (much more expensive and difficult to get into) and fortunately we found CK. We board our two cats here whenever we go out of town. It's very reasonably priced and the staff has come to know our cats and they always enjoy when we bring them in. The facility is clean and we've never had a problem with fleas or any other issues... CK has been great! It's a bit farther to drive but well worth it. Highly recommended. read more

My dogs have come here a few times since my last review. I normally use an in home petsitter, but this place is great for the times when I need boarding and my dogs don't seem to mind at all. That speaks volumes to me. One time we were just going away for an overnight and my adult child who was going to say with them suddenly at the very last minute couldn't stay. I called Country Kennels and told them I knew it was a long shot, but could they board my 5 dogs just tonight. They actually said yes! They were close to full and probably were full after my dogs checked in. Another time when I came to pick up my dogs after a 5 night stay, a big truck was there delivering some stuff. There were dogs barking it and I could hear one of my dogs who loves to bark at trucks. Seriously, he thinks it is fun to bark at trucks. He was obviously feeling safe and secure and was acting just like he would at home. Another one of my dogs was just sitting there in the outdoor portion of her kennel staring at the delivery. She was so interested, I called her name 3 times before she realized I was there. It was just very nice to see them not stressed out and not acting like they couldn't wait to get out of there. They were happy to see me, but they didn't act like they were unhappy with their visit. Trust me, if they are unhappy, they let me know! read more

We have boarded our dogs here many times over the past several years and honestly wouldn't go any place else. The kennels are clean and well maintained. You can add on play time for your pet for a small additional fee and they are more than willing to let you bring the items your pet needs to feel comfortable while away from home. I booked a last minute trip and had to find a kennel for my dogs ASAP. This kennel had the best prices I could find and didn't charge extra fees to give your dogs time out of the runs and suites to play like every other kennel in San Diego does. I definitely loved the "luxury suite" I booked for my dogs, as it has a very homelike atmosphere. There was a couch, rugs, plants, and a doggy door right in their suite. Also the personal flat screen tv mounted to the wall in each suite was playing Winnie the Pooh when I dropped them off. I would absolutely recommend this kennel to anyone looking for a place to take care of their pups while they are away. The facility was very clean and had a very nice atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and I will definitely be bringing my dogs back to their luxury suite the next time I go out of town. read more

You know your dog is in good hands when you come to this place. The people who run the kennel are all very friendly, and our golden retriever Murphy always behaved well when he came here even though it meant we were leaving him behind for a few days. All of the individual pens that are set up for each dog have both an indoor and an outdoor area, so your dog can be inside or outside when he wants. The facilities here are clean, too. It's worth the drive out to Lakeside to know your dog is being taken care of well. I highly recommend this place. read more

We've taken our pup here a couple of times and we really like the set up. She doesn't like being in the same arena as other dogs but she likes being next to them through a fence so it's perfect for her. The owners are very nice and respectful and the establishment is always very clean. Last time we took her there it wasn't busy due to the pandemic so I think she got extra attention. Thankful I found this place! We had just sold our house, and I was having trouble finding somewhere to stay to tie up loose ends that would take large dogs. My Lab has separation anxiety and was making a disaster of his crate every time I had to run an errand or leave him. Country Kennels has boarded my cats 4 times. Each time they were happy when I saw them next. The place is clean ( including the dog runs) the cages are clean and the cats well cared for. You can tell when a kennel is bad by how your pets act when you drop off and pick up. My cats are happy here. The people are very nice and business like. The rates are reasonable. It's a little out of the way but not if you are traveling west to San Diego. read more

Our dogs went from dreading trips to other kennels to being so excited to jump out of the car as soon as they see this place. The staff is friendly and and knowledgeable and the prices are great. I researched and found Country Kennels on Yelp. It seemed to have decent reviews so I called them abut taking my two dogs in for Saturday night. The girl was very nice on the phone and advised me that I could come down to check out their facility. Upon arrival, again the staff were very nice and gave me a tour of the Kennel. I was a little hesitant about leaving the dogs, two German Shepherds. The kennels are small on the inside, 4x4 with a 4x 15 fenced runner that goes outside. This runner is part of their personal kennel which they get to by a doggy door. My first thought was that I really cant take their beds, because besides not fitting, they could get pee and poop all over them, since their potty is in the same area of where they sleep. The kennels did appear to be clean, so I said for a night stay ill give it a shot. I informed the girl after giving her my dogs shot record that I would like to book them for a Saturday night stay. She informed me that I could pick up the dogs on Sunday, but they are only open from 4pm till 5pm. I asked her how much the price was, which she informed me that it was 24 per dog. I said great. Dogs got dropped off Saturday morning between 9:30 and 10:00 am. I returned on Sunday at 4:10pm to pick them up. As I was getting ready to pay, the girl, she advised me that it was $96.00. I said to the girl that the dogs were only there one night. The second girl behind the counter said that they are only open on Sunday because some people need to pick up or drop off their dogs early for Monday. She said we charge for Saturday and Sunday. First off I was like are you kidding, you are charging me almost $100.00 for one night stay. She said to me that this information is on their web site. I said to her I didn't see your web site, nor did anyone tell me it was going to be two night stay if dropped off on Saturday. After the girl seen I was clearly not happy she advised me that she would give me a one time courtesy and reverse the charge, thus why a gave this the second star. But also it was very clear that the girl was not happy about doing this. In closing I will say that first time customers should be made well aware of this, but some of us don't go to the websites to see this information. Also I am not a fan of their hours, They don't open until 9am, during the week, most people have to be to work by 9am and almost all other kennels are open from 630 am or 7am. Please check this kennel out in person before leaving your dogs. read more

I am impressed with this kennel. Very clean, owners on premises and it seemed to be more than just a business for them. They showed a genuine love of animals both at the drop off and pick up. I took my dogs here years ago, but then began to have a neighbor watch them in our home. We recently adopted a 10 month old dog who would probably eat our couch if we left her at home with a neighbor checking in, so back we came to Country Kennels. It's exactly what I expect from a kennel, my dog is kept safe until I return. Cant' says she enjoyed her experience, very scared by all the noise and barking. But it's clean and the family who runs the kennel is very nice, understanding and seem to love dogs. Dogs have access to outdoor and indoor portions of their individual kennels. You can pay an extra fee for playtime, no extra charge for bringing your own food like some kennels charge. The prices are reasonable in comparison to other kennels. Not as good as keeping her at home, but I know she will be safe until I return! read more

We had to leave our fur babies for a week and struggled to find a place that felt safe for our dogs. Our vet recommended this place and we're glad they did. Ultimately, this place had all the features we were looking for: private kennel, outside run, and play time. I'm sure plenty of people are fine with social boarding, but the last thing we wanted was to worry about our little dogs getting mauled or left unattended for hours at a time. The staff were super friendly and they have that family-owned vibe. Received a couple of emails during our trip and even a few pictures which helped my wife feel reassured that the dogs were doing ok. I know it sounds crazy to some people, but our dogs are family to us. Another plus is that we got to bring their own beds, blankets, and toys. Prices were really reasonable too. If you prefer your dogs have their own private kennel space, definitely check these guys out. We were really happy with them. read more

Nightmare. The true test of a kennel is how they react when there is a crisis with your animals. Recently took eight-day cruise and returned to find that all three little dogs had eye damage after bath and grooming. Two of the dogs couldn't open their eyes. They told me it was just shampoo in their eyes and to go home and they would be fine after five or six hours. Went to vet and found that some kind of substance had got in dogs eyes and caused severe cornea damage. Mother in laws dog housed in a different part of the kennel also had eye damage after bathing and grooming that day. Our vet called country kennel and owner said they got a new water heater and it may have had a chemical in it that caused the water to damage their eyes. Our vet unable to get a straight answer on what happened and what kind of shampoo they used. Many days of expensive care for the dogs to get them healthy again. Country kennel reluctantly agreed to pay vet bill and expenses. Very insensitive that our dog's eyes were damaged and these folks left the dogs sitting for hours waiting for us to arrive instead of calling us to tell us there was a medical problem or taking the dogs for medical care themselves. These folks were not forthcoming about what happened and once there was liability involved they became defensive, detached, and very unlike the people we thought we knew and trusted. read more

In taking our dog for several years both my wife and I were impressed overall by Country Kennels. They are very professional and seem to run a very professional business. Our last visit was tempered by finding out that our dog had fallen not once, but a couple of times in one of their larger suites. Our issue was not that are dog had fallen, but why we didn't get a phone call(s) to alert us of this issue and to either come and get our dog ASAP or make arrangements to pick her up. By the time we arrived our dog was in pretty bad shape with open wounds on the back of both of her legs. The vet gasped when she first saw this injury. We were lucky that our dog came through this accident, but it took months of care, follow up visits to the vet, and thousands of $$$. We were left thinking, "What does it take to get a phone call about your dog being injured???" & Why didn't they take our dog to the vet we had listed with them? Isn't the primary duty of a business of this nature to protect the animals that are boarding there??? Hence, we would not recommend Country Kennels to anyone looking to board their dog or cat in the future. read more

We have used this facility about 4 times now to board my dogs over the last few years. We chose this kennel because it was one of the only ones that we could find that had individual runs vs the dog population roaming together (not my thing-accidents do happen). When I first visited, and still today-whenever I've gone there the kennels are VERY clean. It doesn't have that "kennel" smell. The staff is incredible and very kind. They know who my dogs are and what they've been up too. The area they sleep in has ac/heat depending on temperature. They are certainly well taken care of here and I will continue to use them and recommend them. I drive 30 minutes to use their facility even though there are ones closer to me. read more
