How much do I love a butcher shop with a bbq restaurant all in one? Is not a trick question, I love them! This one tucked away in a slow road and filled with fresh meats and Americana. The butcher and pit master, showed me the fresh cuts, including organic Amish chicken, seasoned with his distinctive spices, I can tell you it was a hit with the family. I also got the meat and sausage roll and the two meat combo with pork chop and bbq ribs, yummy. The hot food comes rapped with aluminum foil with each hot item getting its own pocket of foil. Like I said, this is Americana, with that hint of nostalgia come a lot of food for a very reasonable price, including home made salads, like traditional loaded potatoes salad, creamy coleslaw to more adventurous, Shrimp Macaroni Salad, and Bowtie Crab Salad. I will definitely have to get some steaks and home made sausages for the grill monster, and might even try some of their fresh habanero cornbread. Man my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We've been hearing about this place since we moved here last year. I tell you what.. they have some great BBQ, and the burgers are AMAZING. Not only is it very reasonably priced, but it's excellent. I haven't had a burger this good, anywhere, in years. My wife had the same and all we could do was go. "mmmm...so good." through the whole experience. We got a few small tubs of their homemade pasta salad and sour cream macaroni salad. Wow were those excellent too. We're coming back soon to get some meat for grilling. Today it was the smoke from an outdoor barbecue, and the place is called "The Country Store and Catering" in Sycamore, IL. More of a butcher counter than anything, the retail portion is full of house-made sausages and smoked meats. But behind the register, there's a sign with their grilled meats available as sandwiches, and I went with a 'seasoned butterflied pork chop'. Served on a hamburger bun with your choice of a whole host of condiments, including six different barbecue sauces, this is one fine sandwich, and one great piece of meat. I can't say that the food is good or bad since I didn't have the chance to try. I like to support local businesses, but I could not in good conscience support this one: 1. Whether intentionally or not, you may be treated differently if you are not of a "lighter" complexion. My friend and I were treated differently than the others in the store: a. Kay snapped my credit card and receipt onto the counter almost as if trying to avoid my hand. b. She was generally unwelcoming and short towards us and ignored my questions several times and made me feel tense as though we weren't wanted there. c. She didn't say "Thank you" after my purchase like people typically do. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt so I waited a few minutes to observe her interactions with other customers -Nope, she was actually quite friendly and cheery towards the other customers in the store. i.e. She said "Thank you", politely handed back the card to the customer and said goodbye when they left. 2. Less than ideal food prep cleanliness. None of the workers in the stores were wearing masks when I was there. - Interestingly enough, they were selling masks but not wearing them. Went here for lunch today. Small little place off Main St. in Sycamore. The kind of place you can smell before you see. Decent pork chop sandwich. The chop itself was huge and tender on a big soft bun. However, I asked for sauce on the side, got the sandwich drenched in sauce, but also received a side of sauce, so, could've been a miscommunication there. Got the Tom's homemade sauce. I was told it has jalapeno in it and it was okay, kind of like Sweet Baby Ray's with some jalapeno added. Ordered the Italian chicken breast sandwich and asked for sweet peppers on the sandwich expecting... well...sweet peppers (like those you would find on a Italian beef) opened it up to find chopped raw green peppers on it. I guess that's what they call sweet peppers here?? Although again, could've been a miscommunication. Chicken was decent as well, pretty juicy, not exactly what I would call "Italian" seasoning, pretty much just tasted like any other grilled chicken breast. Ordered a side of baked beans but when I got back to my office they were not in the bag, so I can't comment on those. Overall, okay experience. Could've been on off day for them regarding the mix-ups with my order, the staff seemed on edge and some customers were being more difficult than they needed to be. And I know what you're thinking, "Who the hell orders a chicken breast sandwich at a BBQ joint?"...but I wasn't planning on falling asleep at my desk for 2 hours, so I'll definitely will be going back another day to try the ribs. read more

This place is an absolute gem. If I could bottle the scent as you walk in the door and use it as cologne, I would. You walk in the door and the smell, that oh so wonderful smell, gets sweeter and more aromatic. It has all the kitsch and allure of a traditional 'que shack: the old Pepsi signs, specials written in chalk, and the old concession stand lit-up Pepsi sign that they modified to display their dinner choices. It's small and cosy, and to the right when you walk in, is the butcher shop. It's amazing and the prices and quality are out of this world good. You can get your craft soda fix here, too. I had the cheeseburger with bacon and it was DIVINE. I had a side of baked beans and wow, what a throwback, with grilled pieces of hot dog and onion slivers in it! I love this place. Doesn't matter if I'm going out for lunch or grabbing some meat to bring home and grill up. This place has it all. They combined a grill and butcher shop in one. Plus in the summer they are always outside grilling and smoking meats. It's hard to drive by this place and smell what their cooking and not stop. I sometimes come here for lunch to grab a burger. Their prices are super fair for what you get. The burgers are huge and the burger patty is really thick and juicy. My favorite thing to get is the bacon cheddar burger with BBQ sauce and horseradish. Other honorable mentions are the Italian beef, porkchop sandwich and brat burger if you're grabbing lunch from their grill. If you need something to take home to grill during the summer grab the kabobs. Really good. Or just some burger patties and steaks. All really good. The sides are awesome as well. Best ribs I have ever eaten! This place is a hidden gem in Sycamore. If you love ribs don't pass this place up. On my wife's recommendation we tried this place for dinner (carry out). We had two slabs ribs, cole slaw and egg salad, absolutely delicious! The meat just falls off the bone. The sauce was abundant and flavorful. The egg salad and cole slaw were homemade and delicious.
