I just had to write a review of Countryside Animal Clinic, because they have given the most incredible care to all of my pets. My 10 year old French bulldog, Bruno, recently became very ill. We had to make the decision to put him down as he was starting to have seizures and decline quickly. Mary, Countryside's manager, got us in quickly. It was a tough situation as I was flying back in from out of town. Having to do something like this with your beloved pet is so, so difficult. The staff at Countryside, from Naomi at the front desk, from the gentle care from Dr. Mary Hannah and to the love of Bruno from vet tech Chris, made what could have been the worst life experience much more bearable. They treated Bruno with so much love and respect. Dr. Hannah was SO kind in how she spoke to Bruno gently and lovingly. This was so calming and reassuring for me and Bruno. Chris held and hugged Bruno giving him little treats with tears in her eyes. Countryside REALLY loved my dog. I also can't forget to mention Dr. Malitz and all the other amazing stuff there. They literally have no turnover of staff which speaks volumes! I have had a rough couple of months and have sent countless emails and made many phone calls out of concern, and they were always kind, patient and helpful. My dog was very sick. Anytime I needed an appointment to get him checked out they would tell me they couldn't accommodate me and that I should take him to the Emergency Vet because they were days out on an available appointments and that his condition didn't make a difference to them and that they had other appointments to attend to. I took him to the ER which cost me over $1500.00for a supposed ear infection and some antibiotics. Followed up with the Vet when I was able to get an appointment days later and they had no clue what his diagnosis was or how to treat him from the notes from the ER room. Fast forward 2 months later and my dog had the same symptoms that he had when I was told to take him to the ER room and they again told me they could not accommodate an appointment for four days. He declined so badly in 2 days that I had to make an appointment to put him down. I came home the day he was scheduled to be Euthanized and he was dying in front of me on the floor. I called and spoke to Janet and Andrea (I believe that is her name. She is the office manager)and told them that I needed to bring him in ASAP 2 hours before my appointment and they told me they could not accommodate me. I was told they had appointments ahead of me. I asked if the appointments ahead of me had their dogs dying on the floor at their homes and had a scheduled Euthanasia. Andrea told me no, and that it didn't matter. Scheduled appoints take precedence over mine. I ended up having to drive to the ER to have him put down which took me 25 minutes to get to. He suffered for 25 minutes barely breathing when I could have taken him 3 minutes up the street to Countryside and they denied my request. They care nothing about your pet. They are a business to take your money. Stay away from this Vet. The Veterinarians working there have no control over anything because Countryside is a Chain Vet Service. Not privately owned. They are about money. Not caring for sick pets. They also prescribe medicine without seeing your dog and looking at his/hers previous vet records on what medications they are on. They actually prescribed to separate steroids for my dog which would have killed him instantly. I called them and asked them how they didn't know that he was already on a steroid and they said the office manager , Andrea never updated the records. Stay away from this vet clinic. read more

They took care of our dog for 16 years and we had nothing but excellent care. The vets are caring and gentle and always called us back right away if we needed any advice. The front desk staff loves animals and have always been lovely. I highly recommend this animal clinic. read more

Stay away from this place. Incompetent, to the point of your animal suffering and having permanent damage as a result of the poor decisions made by their vet. The "treatment" they provided was to just to go home and do nothing. Our German shepherd now has a permanent ear damage. I wish I researched this earlier online and didn't listen to these crooks. If you care about your animal, stay away from them. They want to do little or nothing and get your money. That seems the model there. They are really good. Every worker very friendly. And they are doing good job. especially my puppy's doctor really nice man! When we visit animal hospital he always take care our puppy! So our puppy extremely healthy! Some of people think this hospital is expensive. But I think price is reasonable. Also another hospital similar price. You have to think how many year you live with your puppy? How can long live with puppy as can as possible? Just good doctor know that. read more

My dog was wounded at a daycare. This daycare has an affiliation with Dr Mary Hannah. Dr Mary Hannah diagnosed and provided a treatment plan via photos. I asked Dr Mary Hannah if her professional opinion was to have my dog seen by a vet in person given she is at a vet conference in Florida. I alerted this to her boss Dr Mike Malitz as this did not sit right with me. Dr Mike Malitz called and left a vm based on what I wrote in the review above which I dictated to his receptionist. See photo for a transcribed copy of voicemail from my phone. He showed concerned within that voicemail. When I spoke to Dr Mike Malitz, I calmly reiterated the above version of what I knew to be true. I stated that since Dr Hannah worked at this vet which he runs, I felt it was incumbent upon me to alert the owner/managing director. My phone transcript from my call with Dr Mike Malitz goes as such, (from Mike) "you should take personal responsibility for this issue instead of calling me up to yell at me. He then told me to go FCK myself in a crazed manner and said do t ever call that practice again. He also stated my dog deserved to have these injuries since me as the owner was such an as-hole." Before I had a chance to respond he hung up on me. I will let any potential and current clients draw their own conclusions about the professionalism of the veterinarians at this clinic. Dr. Malitz and his staff are kind and compassionate people. They took wonderful care of my dog even up until the end when we had to make the difficult decision of when to peacefully end her life. I am forever grateful to them. The vets were immediately responsive to every phone call. I highly recommend them. Prices are fair and reasonable. The clinic is clean and has two resident cats. follow-up: I just can't say enough good things about this place! I just received a letter that they made a donation in my dog's name and they sent me a condolence card! read more

Yelp's map is slightly off - the vet's office is on the South side of the road just east of Sanders Road. I have two older cats and haven't been consistently pleased with the care they've received from Countryside. The thing that bothers me the most is that, over the past 3 years, I've never seen the same vet twice and have never seen Dr. Malitz, the main vet. On my last visit for yearly checkups (and it really may be my last visit) the examination was performed by a vet tech instead of an actual DVM! I realize it is pretty routine and my cats are in good health, but I'm paying over $100 for this and expect a real vet! I asked if a vet was available and was told s/he (?) would be consulted if there were any problems. I'll definitely be yelping through vet reviews before next year's checkup. read more

The best Vet place in Chicago. They literally saved the life of my prior dog (Elvis - Wheaton Terrier) after my vet at the time, recommended we put Elvis to sleep due to kidney failure. THANK GOD for Dr. Guelzow and his team took the time to recognize that the kidney issue was a secondary problem. After receiving proper car from Countryside, Elvis lived for an additional 7 beautiful years. My current dog goes to Countryside Animal Clinic and I cannot imagine taking him any other place. If you need a Vet that will provide excellent care, and treat both you and pet with respect, then go to Countryside Animal Clinic. read more

We moved to the US 4 years ago with our 2 dogs which has since grown to 3. As such we have over the years had a number of different vets. My wifes family all use this practice and over the years have had nothing but great things to say As such it was an easy choice for us and one that has proven time and again to be correct. Our greyhound Cricket got sick 18 months ago and in that time we could not have asked for a more dedicated, professional and caring service. Dr Malitz makes time for us and does a great job in follow up with the various specialists we have seen. He always returns calls, fits our dog in for required check ups, finds time to answer our questions and calls us with test results as soon as he gets them including Sundays and holidays We could not ask for more Additionally the front office staff are great, always courteous, know our names and our dogs names (including the dogs that visit less often) and go out of their way to make the dogs feel comfortable. I recommend this practice to every animal owner I know and will continue to do so John C read more

I was referred to Countryside by a few people. I have 2 dogs who are my babies. One is very old, 15, and the other is 6yrs old. My older boy does not get a lot done at the vet. He needed his rabies but I really do not give him his yearly vaccination any longer. So I took my boys there for their annual visit. The service was fine nothing to make me say they were great. I didn't feel like my boys mattered to the front staff or that my business mattered. I received some resistance on how I wanted my older boy to be treated. I truly believe less is better when you have a 15 year old. They did however do as I asked. My younger boy, who at the time I was still showing at dog shows pretty much got it all. When it was all said and done my bill was close to $600. Now remember my older one only pretty much got a rabies vaccine..... I thought this was outrageous, I made a comment to the office staff and their reply was "we charge Northbrook prices" I was thinking well I live in Palatine can you use Palatine prices please. So I called around to other clinics and found that the prices were very inflated. Maybe if I had felt like my business was important to the staff I would not have minded so much but this was not the case. I will not return for the boys annuals next year. read more

Thank you to the staff of countryside animal clinic. I was in town for work and discovered a tick on my puppy. They were closing in 15 minutes but still allowed me to bring her even though we were not a regular patient. (Other vet offices told me no they couldN't see her) The staff was great. If I lived in the area this is definitely where I would be bringing my girl. read more

Both my daughters' dogs go to Countryside Animal. Clinic. Drs. Malitz and Guelzow are the most gentle, personable experienced vets in our neighborhood. Their staff is also very nice and accommodating. Just last week one of our dogs had a ear hematoma from a grooming accident. Not only did the office get us in very quickly & called another practice to get her past records sent over at once, but most importantly Dr. Guelzow immediately found the cause of our little bichipoo's infection. She remained at the clinic for the day where the staff treated and closely observed her. When I picked her up she was so much better and I was given very detailed instructions which were all written down. To my surprise, the bill was not as high as expected knowing how some veterinarian practices really charge a lot! My husband and I have two big dogs and two cats, all between 8 and 11 years old. We've been taking them all to Countryside since we moved to the area in 2007. We're both big fans of the vets and staff. They get us in quickly, they're pleasant, you can tell they love animals, and they take good care of our guys. I especially love Dr. Gielzow, whose been instrumental in helping us to get our big cranky kitty's weight down! These are good peeps.
