We started going to NB Animal Clinic when we moved to the area about 7 years ago and our neighbor recommended them. We liked them and we were pretty happy with their service, although the receptionists have said some pretty inappropriate things in the past. More recently, they have become extremely non-transparent and shady, for lack of a better term. They try to push extra services (I know they all do that), then make multiple attempts to make you feel bad when you decline. Last visit, 2 months ago, the vet said my dog needed some extractions. Fair enough. We called recently to gauge cost, and the receptionist said we must bring him for another appt. because it's been too long since his last one. Really? We asked for a ball park estimate. She said absolutely not. Furthermore, she said that if he needs 5 extractions, we must do ALL of them at once because that's the law. That's a blatant lie and one that really annoyed me. What if I can't afford all of them at once? I'm sure there are people who don't even think twice and just agree and pay. They are the ones who enable this type of behavior. I called 2 other places shortly afterward and was given an EXACT estimate per extraction. They've never even met the dog and they can still confidently quote. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I think we will be going elsewhere from now on. Shockingly, all of the vets in the area have much better reviews than NB Animal Clinic, I just never bothered to check. read more

Despite their stated goals, consistent lapses, mistakes and apologies seem to be the only thing you can rely on. Staff is enthusiastic, but untrained, hence stuff 'happens' or is poorly communicated and doesn't happen, and nothing happens after stated business hours, incl. test results from an 'emergency'! We have had enough mishaps and apologies; our puppy dog deserves better "care". read more

The front desk is so rude it's ridiculous I've been coming here for like more than 10 years and first time the front desk was so rude to me. I don't even know who is that lady. She was like talking to me like with an attitude like she giving me a favor that she's making an appointment I don't have a right to say that you guys putting me a hold for like almost 10 minutes two times and then she didn't like it. Then she started talking to me so badly and telling me that I'm yelling at her when I was like talking to her normally and I'm trying to make an appointment but those days she was giving me they were not working and she was just like hanging up the phone on me two times not giving me the manager to talk to laughing this is ridiculous. Switched to this vet, they came highly recommended. Brought my dog in for a nail trim. They said, he's due for a physical in November, we can do it now if you want to. I said okay. They took him back and did the exam. I thought I would be in the room with him. Nope. I would preferred to be with him while he is being examined. They brought him to me and said the doc will talk to you. In the meantime they forgot to trim his nails. Took him back again. After he came back, they asked if he had ever had a lepto shot. I said, I don't remember, don't you have his records? They tried calling my old vet to find out. Then the doctor comes back and says, oh, it only applies to your beagle. She had a bad reaction to lepto shot. She almost died! Then, since they weren't sure they said they would give him a Benedryl shot, for free. Since they didn't want me to go to the ER, if he had a bad reaction. And, why didn't the doctor tell me, instead of a tech? No thanks! If it was my other dog and they did this, they would have put her in danger. So disappointed. Time to look for a new vet! Again. They never even trimmed his nails! read more

I've used this clinic for several years now and have always been happy with every vet that I've seen there. In addition, the staff are all extremely nice and work very professionally. The prices are very much in keeping with all other clinics as veterinary costs are high pretty much everywhere you go these days. Northbrook Animal Clinic is truly the best vet experience we've had. We've been taking our now 8 month old puppy here for the last 4 months and can't say enough good things. They always accommodate us with same day appointments (and we've been here a lot in 4 months with a crazy puppy), they take time to explain things and answer all our questions. We gave Northbrook Animal Clinic more than a fair shake, bringing our dogs in a total of 3 times for routine check-ups and vaccinations. However, after multiple issues and no attempt to correct any of them, we'll be moving on to a new clinic. Strike 1: one of our dogs has a small tumor on her leg, which we have been monitoring over the last year or so. The vet measured the tumor 6 months ago and recorded the size. This month, a different vet at the practice tried to measure it but got a completely different measurement (the tumor has not grown much, but her measurement had it marked as 4 times the size of when it was last measured). Her response was that her and the other vet must have measured it differently and wasn't sure how her colleague had used the measuring tool. WHAT? You don't know how to consistently use your tools? What's the point of measuring at all then?! How are we supposed to know if the tumor has changed at all? Completely unacceptable. Strike 2: they refuse to send in prescriptions to online pharmacies in an attempt to get you to buy drugs through them (for a substantial mark up). We asked multiple times have our prescription faxed to our pharmacy of choice and were told we would need to come in, pick up a physical prescription and mail it ourselves. I understand vets claim you, "can't trust" online pharmacies but ultimately, it's our choice and trying to make it more difficult for us is just frustrating. Strike 3: we came in with one of our dogs for an appointment and brought our other dog for moral support. While in with the vet, we asked her a minor question about the second dog (if we should take any action about a broken tooth he has). The vet took all of 30 seconds to look at it and told us it was nothing to worry about. Upon checking out though, they charged us for an appointment visit for the second dog! When questioned about the charge, we were told it was "policy" and there was "nothing" they could do about. There are simply too many good vets in the area to waste your time here. Customer service is poor and they're more concerned with turning a quick buck than building a relationship with their clients. Keep looking, this practice is not worth your money! read more

I had Dr. Angela Vogl at this veterinarian and I must say that she was outstanding. My dog is a big malamute and has only seen one vet her whole life in Montana, I had my reservations about going to anyone really and Dr. Vogl really set my mind at ease from the start. She addressed all of my questions completely and precisely, inspected and diagnosed my animal, and not once did I feel like I was getting the brush off. I have been going to Northbrook Animal Hosp. for 15 years. Dr Jones was recommended, by an animal oncologist at the emergency vets., as the best general vet she knew of. He is not only knowledgable but he is the kindest. He has no problem getting down on the floor if that makes your dog feel more comfortable. (he even does it for my little 14lb. bundle of nerves) He always explains everything, answers all your questions and gives you options. I am not a huge fan of this place. They'd been seeing one of my cats for thyroid issues for a few months and things were ok. The doctors took their time to explain things to me and it was alright. Then the cat stopped eating and drinking over the course of 3 weeks and was rapidly losing weight. I took the cat in 3 times and each time, they gave her fluids, drew blood but didn't see anything that would explain her not eating/drinking. They told me to keep giving her her thyroid meds, give her some soft foods and sent me on my way. I was desperate at this point and took her back a 4th time. They finally sent me over to a local animal hospital. On the way there, she had a stroke and was unable to move her back legs. We ended up having to put her to sleep at the emergency clinic. What bothers me was that the emergency vet said that it was common for cats with thyroid problems to eventually have organ failure - Emergency vet speculated that at some point in the last few weeks that her kidneys were 'blown out" and failing. If this is common knowledge - why didn't Northbrook Animal Clinic think of it? We agonized and our cat suffered for weeks... WEEKS! Shame on me for not knowing any better and not getting a 2nd opinion right away. Shame on them for not recognizing that a senior cat who has lost half of her body weight is in serious distress. read more

Just had my first visit with Dr. Korfist. My dog is starting to develop arthritis and she was great with him. Had to go back the following week because he was taking longer than usual to recover from his flare up, so Dr. Korfist did some X-rays and explained the results with me. She gave me her medical opinion and then asked what I'd like to do. I liked that her approach was very conversational. She did a great job balancing her findings with my financial concerns and coming up with a few options. The front staff was kind and courteous as always. read more

(I actually had a bad experience with the two other vets in the office, but this was years ago, so I don't know if they have since changed.) Dr. Jones is awesome. Best.Vet.Ever. I have never had an issue with the front desk staff. They seem very professional and courteous. I just called in to talk about a tooth cleaning estimate I had received from another vet, and the woman who answered the phone was really knowledgable and nice and answered all of my questions. Speaking of the front desk staff...the last time I went to their office, I brought along my 2.5 yr old daughter and 1 month old son. I want to start this review by saying that leaving this establishment was the best decision for my family. My furry child has not had an accident at our new vet. EVERY time I brought my beloved animal here he would have an accident in a room or in the lobby. SINCE SWITCHING VETS MY BELOVED ANIMAL IS NOT SCARED AND FREE OF ACCIDENTS... The front desk was ok, not very friendly. The receptionist is as flat as a pancake. If you requested a call back you never really got one. I had been going to this vet for years and never got a discount on any services which I think they could have accommodated. The Doctors Peters- great girl love her way of examining as she got down on the floor with our animal. She seemed to care about her job unlike the other two women doctors. . Dr. Jones was great, but never available. In dealing with Dr.'s Korfist and Dr. Vogl, I would say that their egos take over. These two Dr.'s didn't like answering questions . I would not say these people love what they do. It seems more about the money than the love of the animals they deal with daily. These two Dr.'s had a tone that was accusatory when I asked about a medication. They had sent me to a specialty vet who originally filled this script. In this particular appt obviously the records weren't checked because they would have figured out the first script was filled elsewhere. These two women just seemed to have an attitude I was no longer willing to tolerate. Be careful what you say as you may receive a letter in the mail...... So happy to be done with this place. I have been going to Northbrook Animal Clinic for 20 years. Dr. Needleman and Dr. Jones were a great combo. Ever since Dr. Needleman retired the practice has gone down hill. My problem isn't with the doctors it's with the front desk staff. It's difficult to schedule appointments, call hold time is ridiculous, you often get a busy signal when calling, staff can be rude and not customer service friendly. They make mistakes and do little to apologize or accommodate for their errors. Unfortunately, this reflects on the whole practice. There are several great vets in the area and no deserves to be treated poorly. read more

He is kind and patient and all of my animals have loved him. Great at diagnosis and amazing advice. The reviews by Mark F and Melissa are quite accurate based on my experience today with the office staff. I have taken on of my dogs to the clinic in the past to see Dr. Needelman and was pleased. I have a new dog and needed a protective cone and called to see if I could buy one. Note, these are non-prescription and can be purchased at any pet store. I happen to prefer the types used at the clinic. I spoke to a staff person who after several minutes going back and forth told me that they would not sell me a cone unless the dog was seen. When I questioned why this would matter and the person was quite curt. I checked with another clinic just down the road and they were happy to accommodate me. Needless to say I will not be taking my new dog to Northbrook Animal Clinic but will go to the other clinic as they care about the customer! read more

My very old and very sick cat was dying Sunday (Easter). I knew it was her time but I knew that Northbrook Animal Clinic was closed for the holiday. I could have called a 24-hour open clinic on Easter Sunday, but I waited until opening on Monday (I trusted NAC to do the best thing for my cat) and told the receptionist of the issue. She could not find my cat's record. I was on hold. I KNOW this clinic treated my cat for a bladder infection. I practically begged her to find her record. When she could not, she referred us to Pearl (turned out to be a blessing as they were so compassionate and kind to me and my cat) and did not even offer an appointment later in the day. My family can attest that our cat was treated there. The lack of compassion cannot be easily forgotten. read more
