DO NOT TRUST BLUE PEARL WITH YOUR PET'S LIFE. We had a devastating and fatal experience here. This review isn't about 5 stars vs. 1 star--it's about life or death. If you're reading this, I hope you're focusing on the patterns of these types of reviews and not just the overall rating. We've been speaking with multiple people at Blue Pearl since they allowed our dog, Roxy, to die *without treatment* for a full hour after accidental poisoning and we want to prevent this from happening to anyone else's pet. We were told that she "slipped through the cracks," a statement higher ups now deny. And what's the final verdict? They've learned nothing and have no plans to change how they operate. Matthew was the only reasonable management level person we spoke with. We were met with callousness from the higher levels. So let me be clear: My family and I will NEVER set foot in any Blue Pearl again. If you need emergency care, go to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) or the new emergency vet in Glenview. In fact, we later spoke with VEG about Roxy's situation (without telling them how it was handled elsewhere), and it was obvious they are far more prepared to handle a range of poisonings. Blue Pearl, on the other hand? They only really know how to treat chocolate and raisin toxicity. ROXY'S STORY - HOW BLUE PEARL FAILED HER On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, we came home to find that Roxy had accidentally gotten into her Proin medication (a common incontinence drug for dogs). We immediately called Blue Pearl, who told us to contact ASPCA Poison Control and start heading over--so we did. When we arrived, Roxy was still completely normal. No symptoms yet. We got there fast--probably no more than 40 minutes of ingestion. We asked them to induce vomiting or administer activated carbon, as the symptoms had not appeared yet. They took her back right away. Then an hour passed. When we asked for an update, they finally brought her out to us--but by then, she was behaving rabidly from the medication. And we found out they had done nothing in that hour to treat her. The reason provided? They "weren't equipped" to handle Proin poisoning without guidance from poison control. But poison control was backed up (Halloween rush, apparently). So what did they do? Nothing. By the time they finally got poison control on the phone, Roxy had already spiked a dangerously high blood pressure, developed blue gums, and needed oxygen. After nearly two hours, we were finally told she likely wouldn't survive--and if she did, she'd have lasting complications. They had time to save her. They refused to administer activated carbon (this is a known mitigator for Proin overdose). They ignored our request and instead they neglected her. To make matters worse, one of their own staff later admitted that Roxy may have just been forgotten while they were busy with other patients. Meanwhile, Blue Pearl's own policies list poisonings as a high priority. After hearing from the management that there were a number of errors made that night with Roxy, head vet Jordan (who wasn't present that night) called us and denied any wrongdoing. They would rather see a pet die waiting on hold for poison control to tell them what to do if it takes even the slightest risk away from the vets themselves. I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE AVOID THIS NIGHTMARE: - DO NOT go to Blue Pearl. - Wherever you go, call ahead and confirm they are actually equipped to handle your pet's specific emergency. Not all ER vets can treat all toxins. We trusted them with Roxy's life, and they failed her in the worst way. I wouldn't let them touch a stuffed animal, let alone another beloved pet.

Tired girl heading home to finish convalescing.

Can't say enough good things about our experience. From our arrival to our discharge, our experience was top tier. We never felt pressured to proceed with any testing or procedure. We were offered diagnostic options all along the way, in consideration of finances. Our family was calling multiple times a day to check in on our dog during her 2 day stay. My kids even got to visit with our dog during her hospitalization. Check out was quick and efficient, as was our discharge. I don't even think I could critique anything.

    RIP Lorenzo

In December, our Vet noticed Bodhi needed another teeth cleaning. I didn't want him to receive anesthesia again so soon, especially because his breed is sensitive. I found Becker Animal on an internet search for non-anesthesia dental cleanings; they were highly rated. The ratings are spot on! It was a wonderful experience. Our dog had a temperament evaluation with a vet at Becker first. After, he was able to have a full teeth cleaning without anesthesia. The total cost was $305. Bodhi was wrapped in a blanket and his teeth were cleaned in the technicians lap. It only took about 30 minutes. The treatment included cold laser on his gums to help with swelling and a post-treatment consultation to review his dental hygiene, findings, and optional dental products. We left with a goodie bag including a dental chew, toothpaste and a toothbrush. Before and after pics and Bodhi in goggles for laser treatment. Yes, they even take pictures for you! The office was friendly, helpful, and communicated beautifully. Stacey manages the dental bookings. She is excellent with answering questions and scheduling . A+ experience!

He is 9 1/2 and we REFUSED to make him live the rest of his life convalescing from back surgery. My wife researched who to go to for possible holistic treatments, and found Dr. Mullen and as it turns out, she happened to be at Kohn Animal Hospital. Let me start by saying that Dr. Mullen made a HUGE HUGE HUGE and let me say again, HUGE impact on our boy. She started with laser treatments, acupuncture and vitamin B shots at his acupuncture points. She worked with him and after one treatment, ONE TREATMENT, Hoss was acting like his old self. Wanting to run, play with his brother. We had to keep him calm so he wouldn't re-injure himself. Here we are, 4 months later, and he is still doing AMAZING. Dr. Mullen changed our boys life for the better and we couldn't be happier and more pleased with the unbelievable level of care that Dr. Mullen has provided. She shows just how much she cares for each patient. She sees Hoss, she melts to the floor and gives him rubs, hugs, kisses, and is overjoyed to see him. Her expertise and knowledge of the course of treatment that she has recommended and is doing has surpassed our expectations. We recommended Kohn/Dr. Mullen to a dear friend of ours that has a French Bulldog (so does Dr. Mullen) and she was able to diagnose and is in the process of treating his boy's allergies and they are FINALLY under control and his boy is so much happier than he ever was before Dr. Mullen's expertise. We LOVE Dr. Mullen and she is the best vet (besides our regular vet) that we have ever had the pleasure and trust to take our boy to. If our regular vet were to ever close its doors, Kohn and Dr. Mullen would be our number one choice. Dr. Mullen is now more than our Basset boys doctor, she is family to us and we hope to keep seeing her for a long time to come!

We liked them and we were pretty happy with their service, although the receptionists have said some pretty inappropriate things in the past. More recently, they have become extremely non-transparent and shady, for lack of a better term. They try to push extra services (I know they all do that), then make multiple attempts to make you feel bad when you decline. Last visit, 2 months ago, the vet said my dog needed some extractions. Fair enough. We called recently to gauge cost, and the receptionist said we must bring him for another appt. because it's been too long since his last one. Really? We asked for a ball park estimate. She said absolutely not. Furthermore, she said that if he needs 5 extractions, we must do ALL of them at once because that's the law. That's a blatant lie and one that really annoyed me. What if I can't afford all of them at once? I'm sure there are people who don't even think twice and just agree and pay. They are the ones who enable this type of behavior. I called 2 other places shortly afterward and was given an EXACT estimate per extraction. They've never even met the dog and they can still confidently quote. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I think we will be going elsewhere from now on. Shockingly, all of the vets in the area have much better reviews than NB Animal Clinic, I just never bothered to check.

After receiving endless recommendations for Companion Skokie (which just so happens to be super close to home), we decided to take our gal to Dr. Lin. All of the staff at Companion have been super helpful, communicative, and extremely transparent. We talked about our gal, Luna's plan of treatment and care from the getgo, and talked about different possibilities we could run into as she grew. We talked about getting her nares worked on, and her spay and microchipping done at the same time. We received a quote ahead of time so we knew what to expect the costs to range at, and when came time for the surgery, they made sure that we were 110% comfortable before leaving our gal there to get worked on. We received a call a few hours later updating us on how the procedures went, and how she was doing and scheduled a time for pick up. Upon pick up of our gal, we had the nurse walk us through all of her post op care procedures and things to be mindful of as we bring her home. Because she got surgery on both ends, along with an ear infection we knew we had to keep a close eye on her. As time progressed, we noticed that there was a swelling by her abdomen, and called in to see if it was normal. We sent pictures and the doctor had us come in just to be safe. After looking at it, we were told it was fluid that built up due to overactiveness at home, which with a frenchie puppy is so accurate. They gave us a course of treatment to help with the swelling, and our gal is on her way to recovery. Even after the surgery, Luna is always so excited to go to the vet because she's excited to see everyone and get all of the belly rubs. :)

But they really stood out with their care for our 17 year old, Bailey. Bailey had been showing his age, and standing for grooming was hard for him. When this first happened, they would always ensure he spent the least amount of time possible there and he was almost always ready before 11 a.m. Later, they adjusted the cut they gave him so he didn't have to stand so long. We had Bailey at Carriage Hill for grooming a couple weeks ago. While he was there, he had a seizure (he'd had a couple before and was on medication for them, not at all the fault of Carriage Hill). They called us to come pick him up. When we got there, Francine asked us for his leash so she could comfort him with a familiar smell when they picked him up. They carried our sweet boy to us and Francine was very kind when I asked, "is it time?" We made the difficult decision every dog owner dreads but it was clear that he was having more bad days than good ones. That experience made it crystal clear to me that the team at Carriage Hill really does care about the animals in their care and they make their living doing something that they are passionate about. I can't thank them enough for the kindness they showed us that day and can't wait for the day we're able to bring a new puppy there for grooming.

Cory is extremely mood dependent and can be super nice or super rude. Nicole is just rude. Nicole let us know they fired Mella, one of our favorite staff along with Lindsay. Also, not sure why Nicole violated the rules by telling me but it felt unprofessional. Expect attitude and brusqueness. Booking Appointments: Normal. Phone calls and you can book online now. Book weeks in advance unless you fight the phone lines for cancellations at 7:30am. Fairly normal for a Vet practice. You can often get lucky if persistent but you must call multiple times until you get through. They have an app that is very helpful and I recommend downloading. Also they do a great job sending reminders and confirming appointments. Location: Off a main street (Skokie Blvd) and Main street. Good location. Nice building. Always clean. Smells nice. They have dedicated parking spaces. Waiting room has ample chairs and space. Cost: General visits for a dog cost me 700-800 with shots. That's crazy!! No sickness. Shots and a check up. So that's insane. They charged me about 4k last summer for what turned out to be allergies treated with cytopoint and a mange pill. Expect estimates to exceed their high cost. Vet tech appointments for fluids are easy and cost effective. Experiences: I went here the first time in 2007/8 and did a vet check and flea check. The doctor said no fleas. Turns out there were fleas and had to deal with more issues and a different vet. I stopped going. After about 12 years I gave them another chance as my previous vet moved. Incidents I've had over the last few years: Told by Dr. Miz my dog Barbara's labs weren't exciting and she was fine. Kept telling him she was lethargic and sick and wasn't herself. Even the staff knew she wasn't herself. He didn't think it was a big deal and I was exaggerating. She was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer the next week by another vet and went immediately into emergency treatment and crossed the rainbow bridge. She suffered for a week due to his misdiagnosis. Exact words on file were "Labs not exciting" Next, took them over six months to diagnose my older dog with senior mange and put him through months of expensive treatments when he needed a pill. It was horrific seeing his hair and face bubble and lose skin. Turns out his chronic kidney disease they were treating him for made hm susceptible. When I adopted a dog from Orphans of The Storm, they did her spay. She came out a completely different dog who couldn't pee the same. I was told by others in the Vet community they do cheaper spays and less anesthesia foe the rescues. What's good? Dr. Stewart is an absolute gem. She is the only reason I kept going after my traumatic experience losing Barbara. Dr. Zoe seems great as well. Dr. Miz....I don't know what to think. Part of me wants to like him because while my first experiences were so awful the lat time I saw him was really kind. He's the owner and he does have a kind face and demeanor. Dr. Zoe is wonderful and a great addition. Seriously great attitude. Bottom line: Roll the dice. You might get lucky for a while if your pet has no issues. If you're pet is sick, well, it's really hit or miss. I am leaving this because thank goodness I've moved states and no longer rely on them for Dante. Dr. Miz, since I know you read this: My advice? Train the staff to just have kindness. You have some awesome people and your vets are great. But we can't get them if your staff makes it uncomfortable to make an appointment or call in. Customer service is really starting to lack and that was never the case before. I really appreciate you for the last time I saw you and felt you were kind. As the owner, maybe you don't know some of this. I would love to have left a better review but I couldn't in good conscious. I hope it does improve because I do believe you love animals and do care and so Dr. Stewart and Dr. Zoe.
