We almost considered euthanizing our beloved dog because of the speculative diagnosis they gave - saying she likely had a brain tumor. Although they also suggested a CT scan, they should realize that pet owners rely on them for accurate guidance. Knowing the prognosis for survival of brain tumors, making comments of such potential consequence is irresponsible, not to mention heartbreaking. They should have simply said, "we can't be sure - we recommend a CT scan." PERIOD Update - She ended up having a fungal infection of the nasal cavity - very successfully treated. read more

Recently had a god awful experience at Glenview Animal Hospital which put my dog through so much unnecessary pain. I brought my dog in for a tumor removal in which he was horribly stitched up. A few days later, the stitches began to dehisce (split apart). We immediately brought him in so the doc could take a look at it. Aside from the staff lacking any sort of compassion or warmth towards my baby who was in pain from his stitches literally ripping apart, we were sent home and told that he will be fine and that the wound would heal "on its own". Days later, every single stitch popped open and the wound completely tore apart. I rushed him back to Glenview Animal Hospital because his MUSCLE was now protruding through skin and his blood was getting everywhere. When we got there, the doc took a look at it and once again said that there was nothing they can do. Crazy right? These people refused to stitch up my dog because quote "the same thing could happen again". Instead, their idea was putting a mesh sling on him to cover up the wound so that blood wouldn't get everywhere. However, once we got home and took off the sling, the friction from the harsh material rubbing against the open wound caused it to open up even more, worsening the already large open wound. My poor dog. We ended up taking him to another hospital in the area which probably saved his life. They immediately took him in, stitched him up, and now, weeks later, his wound is healed with no complications. It was heartbreaking seeing my dog in such agonizing pain, knowing that his doctor, whom we trusted, couldn't care less to help him and only made the pain worse. read more

Update: I had to say goodbye to my little friend. Thanks to your receptionist for making my last day with him a little harder thru her lack of compassion & patience. Follow-up to reply- No your receptionist was neither kind, patient nor compassionate. I called your clinic bc of a recommendation from an existing client who I met at ER. Do you think I would've called your clinic if I hadn't already tried to get into mine? Covid is being waaaaay over used as an excuse. I've worked the entire pandemic, not at home. I stand by my statement- rude reception- Covid as overused excuse. Another rude receptionist. Get a hold of your people. If someone is audibly upset because they have a sick animal and can't get him into their regular vet or any animal hospital for two months because of the Covid excuse - have some empathy. It's like having a sick family member. And no- don't reply and tell me see an ER because I did that and they sent us home after 6 hours (4.5 hour wait in reception & 1 hour in a room when they sensed I was about to leave) with little care & now $400 ER visit & 24 hour laters the wound appears gangrenous. Teach the people who answer phones to be empathetic instead of hanging up on a person who is upset (and at no time raises voice or swore but instead questioned the Covid excuse). Ive worked entire pandemic not at home. I truly hope anyone who chose to collect unemployment & Covid stimulus bump feels great about their choice of laziness over providing a real life need to sick animals. I'll bet every single unemployed by choice using Covid as an excuse had no problem ordering packages on Amazon and never thought "Gee, how marvelous, someone is still doing their job during Covid." read more

When I first reached out for an appointment I got a call back within the hour. I was able to pre fill out forms and email ahead of time so no forms when I got there. Vet and staff were so kind and took their time getting to know me and our two new kittens. They fawned over the kitties and the vet provided all sorts of great advice and and answered all my questions. He even helped me find the best value online for a fountain water dish. We have two pups, a six-year-old golden doodle, Emme Elizabeth, and an 8-month-old lab mix, Madeline who have both been patients of Dr. Sarah Mateles since they were adopted. The practice has a wonderful family feel when you walk in and everyone is incredibly kind and compassionate. Our puppy Madeline has the sweetest connection with Chris, the Hospital Director and they are the best of friends. 12/4/2022 Update of prior review. The past few years our precious senior cat received good medical care from Dr David Cohen, Owner of Glenview Animal Hospital, and from the other 2 vets in the practice. This completely changed when we had to put her down. I told Dr Cohen to give her the appropriate sedative to relax her before the final injection. Dr Cohen immediately responded very arrogantly, "I never miss". I continued talking to him, and he said the exact same thing. He would not make our senior cat as comfortable as possible. As I anticipated, it was a traumatic terrifying experience for her. Her final few moments of life consisted of trauma, screaming, pain, fear, etc. Putting her down took way too much time. We have had indoor cats for a very long time (me, too, growing up), and every cat was comfortable and peaceful before passing. I called Dr Cohen several days later to discuss the situation. It was not helpful. This incident happened December 10, 2021. For various reasons, I could not update my review sooner. I DO recommend the other 2 vets at Glenview Animal Hospital. You want your vet to actually love animals we went to another Glenview vet prior before switching to Glenview Animal Hospital and it was the best thing for Hudson our Golden Retriever. The other vet showed zero affection or compassion for animals and offered us ZERO suggestions with a puppy on food options and many other questions. We have two senior kitty ladies living at home, one who is almost 20, and one (in my icon) is 14. We used to live in Arlington Heights and used a vet near there for the 20-year-old. While mostly happy with the services, I could never speak with a vet on the phone nor get anyone to call me back when I had a problem. And driving to pick up medication became a huge hassle. We decided to choose Glenview Animal Hospital that's near our apartment. Dr. Mateles is friendly, compassionate, and carefully went through our 20-year-old's lengthy records to help us develop a healthcare plan. She was patient when dealing with our crankypants 14-year-old too. Dr. Kanter also helped us during a very stressful day after New Year, dealing with our 20-year-old's sudden illness. The thing we appreciate the most -- aside from the competent and caring staff -- is the fact that whenever we call, it takes five minutes at most to talk to a vet. It's reassuring to know that we'll get to talk to someone right away when we're having a crisis! In fact, Dr. Mateles even made a follow-up call to check on our 20-year-old when we were dealing with her tummy issues. Expect high quality care, an attentive staff and doctors, and even a photo on the wall for new patients. Our 13 year old Yorkie was very sick and we knew it was time for the inevitable. We had just had it with our old old vet at Banfield in Niles. Glenview Animal Hospital gave us an appt the same morning we called. When we walked in, we were treated like family. It was like we had been going there for all 13 years. Stacy was the sweetest, kindest person as well as Dr Kanter. He explained the situation and all the options and basically confirmed that we were making the right decision. It was a hard thing to go through, but my family and I felt so much comfort in having these two caring people with us at this difficult time. God bless them, because I know they have had to go through this many times. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. I have been a client of the Glenview Animal Hospital for almost 6 years now. Dr. Cohen is wonderful with both my cats and has been there when they needed help. Recently, my cat had the beginnings of urethral blockage with crystals that I thought was an infection. The doctor knew right away what the issue was and how to treat it. We where looking for a new vet in Glenview for our 14 1/2 year old labradoodle to treat a cough. My 24 year old son took Elle in for an appointment $670 later we where told she was dehydrated and constipated. When I questioned the charges it was explained they where looking for something deeper. "Some people want to know these things " Missy the office manager explained Yes ! I agree and it's the Vets responsibility to offer you these choices along with an explanation of why the test is needed and how much it costs giving the owner a choice before the tests are given. This is not the policy at Glenview animal hospital I am sorry to report $285 for 4 X-rays when we only agreed to 1 X-ray $195 lab work / we brought our current blood work When I questioned the charge the doctor explained they where looking for a cancer gene that required further testing. I debated going with four stars ONLY because as one person mentioned, the prices are a bit on the higher side - most things in the area are, for that matter. But with that said, I still choose to go there and want to rate them based on what matters - the care being given to my pets. And I highly recommend this place. I've seen all three doctors that are there currently as of today (Dr Kanter, Dr Cohen and Dr Mateles) and they are all really good and provide excellent care for my pets. Dr Kanter has been my main vet and he has worked with me a lot in terms of coming up with a plan of action for my sickie pets that needed a lot of tests or maintenance care, since that obviously adds up in terms of $$ (regardless of where I were to go). We've been able to use this plan to help us determine the right path to take in terms of tests, treatment, etc.and not have an overwhelming toll to my pocketbook. He also has an amazing bedside manner with my babies. He gets to know them, not just their illnesses or test results. I think the vet techs and staff there are just as great as the doctors. The vet techs are all very gentle with the animals, and get to know them just as well as the vets do. They have often helped with any clinical questions I have had, and in one 16-day span got to talk to all of them, I'm sure. The ladies at the front desk have always been super-nice, extremely comforting during the bad times, and always willing to help with any (non-clinical) questions I may have. And then there is Chris, the patient services coordinator - aka, the Cat Whisperer. She really does seem to know the pets on a whole other level, and has ALWAYS helped me with any problems that may have arisen. Those problems didn't stay problems for long. I also like the convenience of having them less than a five-minute walk away. I typically drive there since cats don't care for the colder weather, but I like knowing that I CAN walk there if needed. I've never had a problem getting in when I needed to. And I honestly can say that the care I get for my critters is worth the cost. And I will reiterate that I highly recommend this vet to anyone looking for one. read more

There's not enough good things I can say about this place. Extremely friendly staff and always helpful. They always follow up to see how everything is going as well. I usually deal with Dr. Cohen mainly because he is very personable and keeps everything real. I think he is awesome and does great with my dog Cooper. I initially came here because it was a close by vet but I couldn't be happier that I chose this location. I now have moved and live 30 minutes away and there are plenty of closer vets but would not ever choose to leave here. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who is looking. read more

Unfortunately I made the wrong decision because the issue was not taken care of well, resulting in multiple visits. The prices here are exorbitant. Ridiculously high compared to other places in the area. The staff is friendly enough, but the quality of care doesn't measure up. If you care about your pets and don't like to throw money in the trash, stay away. There are plenty of other good choices very close by. read more

I sat in traffic for 20 minutes while my dog had seizures when a 5 minute drive to my vet , DURING OFFICE HOURS was denied.
