My cousin decided to do cupcakes for her wedding. After devouring these and taking about 6 home I was a fan. Only caught the truck once and that was in the YorkTown mall lol but have been to the Elmhurst location about 6x times. (It's actually how I started eating Lou Malnati as it's right next door) Favorite is the pink Velvet! but usually will mix up and get other things as they are just as good. This is an awesome find. Small bakery/cafe in Elmhurst. They have a simple menu, mostly Breakfast. The Pastries are amazing. Donuts are not just fluff, but really substantive. The Cupcakes and the Muffins are also amazing. I had a Maple Bacon donut today, and loved it. That was after the Chilaquiles Verde. Homemade Chips, awesome Chili Verde sauce, topped with tender, juicy chicken, onion and queso fresco covered by two eggs. AMAZING! The flavors meld together and burst in your mouth. I have also had the Lunch Burrito, stuffed with beans, rice, chicken and avocado. Truly amazing flavors. And then there is the Biscuits and Gravy, which I covered with two easy over eggs. Biscuits are amazingly fluffy. The Sausage Gravy was so fresh and tasty and just amazing. I highly recommend checking this place out. Very friendly staff, and a clean, bright atmosphere. read more

I tried their pink velvet cupcake last summer, but ate it way too late and couldn't write an accurate review. I purchased a vanilla bean cupcake off the truck one sweltering hot Tuesday afternoon and was disappointed by the dry cake and grainy frosting. So, I decided to purchase cupcakes from the actual bakery to get a more accurate representation of their cupcakes. And boy oh boy, I was not disappointed. These cupcakes are beyond legit. I purchased a Yelp deal which was $5 for $10 worth of goodies. I took a peak at the flavors on their websites and knew I wanted to try the lemon raspberry and the chocolate bacon beer. I stopped by around 3:30 on Saturday afternoon and there was still a very good selection of cupcakes including the two I wanted to try. I also purchased an apple slice, which basically is a square piece of apple pie to make sure I hit $10. After dinner, I sampled half of each cupcake. The lemon raspberry cupcake blew me away. The cake was moist and I loved how it was filled with a raspberry pastry cream. It had just the right amount of filling. The cupcake was topped with a whipped cream cheese, which was light and paired perfectly with the lemon cake and raspberry pastry cream. It was topped with dehydrated raspberries, which added a nice decoration and a little crunch. The chocolate bacon beer was definitely one of the most unique cupcakes that I've tried. I was worried that it would taste too much like beer and I'm not a big stout fan. However, it didn't taste too much like beer at all. I did get subtle hints of it though. The topping was a Swiss meringue and stout glazed roasted bacon. The meringue was awesome and wasn't too sweet. I loved the bacon and felt like it could have used a few more pieces. The packaging is great since you know the cupcake will be secure. My packaging also served as storage for my cupcake for the following day. Both cupcakes still tasted delicious the evening after, which was another huge plus. They also have a punch card where you get a punch for every $3 you spend. You get $3 off your purchase once you collect all 12 punches. The punch card is valid both for the bakery and on the truck. Another visit to CB and more bad service and blah food. I stopped in to place a to-go lunch order (veggie burrito) and ended up waiting twenty minutes for my order. There were a few occupied tables, but I was the only person waiting for food and it definitely should not have taken twenty minutes. When I was finally able to dig into my lunch the disappointment continued; the burrito was halfway filled with arugula (which does not compliment the other ingredients and they use arugula in everything here!) and was missing the yummy potatoes. For $7 this is a complete ripoff! You can get an entire chipotle burrito for less than this and it's not filled with bitter-tasting greens. It's always something with this restaurant: bad food, slow food, disconnected service, etc. I love their biscuits, but those won't keep me coming back. read more

This is why I love Yelp! Yelp Friends rave about a place. I make my way over to said place. Then I love it too. Win-win! Thanks Aimee, Judy & Angela! I wandered in on a weekday afternoon. A rare treat for this full-time employee usually stationed in Itasca. The staff was super friendly! I checked in on Yelp (of course!) and saw a Yelp Deal available for purchase. They were quite fine with me making the purchase right then and there and using the deal. Score! They had no donuts available, so I was a little disappointed, but they had a wide range of cupcakes, cake balls and other fresh baked goodies. I wasted no time picking out six cupcakes to take home for sharing and a couple cake balls. My treats were neatly wrapped up and after my sis and her hubby had made their purchase we were on our way. That night, I let my hubby choose two cupcakes. I sliced both in half so we could both get a glimpse of the magic. This worked until I didn't want to share anymore. He's a good guy who is not big on dessert so by day number three, I was home free to eat an entire cupcake without sharing! Let me just say that even on day number three the flavors were still there and the cupcakes were still enjoyable. My absolute favorite was the Maple Bacon Cupcake. Sweet and salty. I went through a cupcake phase. I really thought I made it through to the other side. Then Aimee M. said in her review, "spicy sriracha turtle cupcake". And I was knee deep in cupcakes again. This time I left with a mere 4 cupcakes. This represents progress since the great $50 Crumbs cupcake catastrophe, and that was catastrophe in excess only, not taste, btw. Back to Courageous Cupcakes. Even though they didn't have the sriracha turtle that day (they do post daily flavors on their website tho), they had enough interesting choices to compel me to take some home. I chose pb&j, lime in the coconut, chocolate beer bacon, and dreamsicle. All were very good, but I was in love with the dreamsicle, followed closely by the lime in the coconut. They are of average size, not humongous, thankfully, run about $3 each, and were delicious! The cake itself full of flavor, some textures depending, not dry at all, and there were some lovely flavor combos. Oh, and of particular note,the frostings. All were light, airy, smooth and not cloying with sugar overload; that's much appreciated and the pure awesomeness of the frostings is what sets these apart for me. I'm looking forward to trying more, clearly. The biscuit was very good too! I spoil myself with Bang Bang Pie Shop's biscuits on a semi frequent basis so no biscuit can ever top theirs, for me, but this is a different more scone like biscuit, so it's apples and oranges, and would be a close second regardless. The Irish Dream tea was a great hot tea choice, if I do say so myself. Try it! Great sweet but not overpowering floral flavors. Completely enjoyed the shop itself with its lime green painted walls, cutesy wood and up cycled tables, mason jar full of fresh yellow flowers on each table, the bustling street view, the Eco-friendly waste bins, free wifi, and sweet and helpful staff. Plus, I understand a portion of proceeds benefits a charity, I'm assuming a cancer-based charity as the owner's sister was diagnosed with lymphoma (and happily survived and thrived) and inspired the bakery's name. :)) Btw, the owner was also on Cupcake Wars on the Food Network, so she's doing something right, that's for sure! These cupcakes are easily in my top three with GiaVia Sweets and Le Chocolat Du Bouchard (who isn't particularly known for cupcakes, but I found my favorite ever there). So as my internal cupcake war rages on, you can bet I'll be back here to try the various flavors and soak up some ambiance at the same time. read more

I love Courageous. I've been here twice and their luscious cupcakes definitely keep me coming back. When I saw that they had a Groupon, three vouchers for $10 each, I knew i had to buy it. Life got crazy and they're about to expire soon, so I made a trip pre-work today for breakfast and cupcakes. I was running later than I'd like thanks to good ol' traffic, but I was still able to make it to work on time, so kudos to them for running an efficient business. I ordered a croque monsieur, iced coffee and two cupcakes (peanut butter chocolate and white raspberry) The croque monsiuer took a little time to prepare, but it was so delicious that it was worth the wait. The croissant was flaky and the ham, gruyere, thyme combination was delicious. Usually places leave you room for cream, but I wasn't given that option. Since I can't drink it black, I just took it to work to put creamer in later. I gave the white raspberry cupcake to my friend, but the peanut butter chocolate one was divine. I'm not TOO into chocolate, but I do love the chocolate + pb combo. It tasted just like a Reese's cup. So good The woman working the counter wasn't overly friendly, but I couldn't tell if that's because it was busy when I arrived or if she just was having a bad morning. However, the lady that brought me my food was super nice and even got me a bag to put all my treats in. The parking sitch wasn't bad for me. I was actually able to snag a "3 hour parking" spot right across the street. They're food is delicious and definitely worth the stop. I've been a HUGE fan of their cupcake truck and was very excited that they opened a storefront and I couldn't wait to visit I since I HEARD that they not only had cupcakes at the bakery but doughnuts, other pastries and BRUNCH items - WOOHOO! So after a failed attempt a few months ago (went on a day they were closed, we finally made it out there on a Saturday morning. The store is located directly across from the Elmhurst metra train stop - bonus points for that - nice little weekend outing for me. I like taking random metra train rides to the burbs and exploring. The inside is very cute with a handful of tables and counter seating. Cupcake flavors vary by day - today they did not have my favorite, but that's ok because on this day - I had BRUNCH - OMG was it good. I had the Choripapa skillet and the SO had the Chilaquiles. We both also had coffee and I ended up taking 4 cupcakes and a really cute tie-dyed Cupcakes for Courage long-sleeved t-shirt to go. On to the food - wow was my skillet AWESOME - the guys from La Adelita food truck partnering with Courageous Bakery and are cranking out some d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s food here. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, the chorizo was lean the veggies all tasted delicious - and let me tell you - I don't really like onions, but in this dish, they were perfect! Topped with melted cheddar fresh cilantro and a side of tomatillo salsa - I was in heaven. The portion was huge - now tell me why I almost ate the whole thing!??? My SO's chilaquiles - he devoured. I have to be honest, I was so into my own food, I didn't really pay attention to his, except that I kept taking pieces of his crumbled queso fresco. Coffee was great, and bottomless...also a plus. Loved the steady stream of customers - understandably so - food here is great!. Cupcakes for Courage now has a store front in Elmhurst....woooo hooo! It is super cute with green/white decor and lighting enclosed in wire baskets. Cases filled with cupcakes, donuts, muffins and croissants! What's not to like?! Plenty of seating for dine in coffee and cupcake eaters. Fancy shmancy take out containers for cupcakes on the go! Tried the pink velvet, carrot cake and key lime. The cream cheese frosting is delightful and the cupcake is super moist. Have you had the pistachio croissant? I think these might be made by magical fairies that deliver them to the bakery in the morning. They are are simply out of this world! My friend and I stumbled upon this cafe when the wait for a nearby restaurant was too long. It's located conveniently near the train in the heart of downtown with a very cute storefront. The food here is simple yet super delicious. I was a huge fan of the avocado toast. It was very fresh and the pico de gallo accompanied the over-easy egg so well. I loved the herby vinaigrette that came with the mixed greens - I need a gallon of it! Highly recommend for a light meal. My friend's two-egg breakfast looked tasty too. I had a bite of the huge biscuit and it was killer. Also, the coffee was very tasty and piping hot. The prices here were very reasonable and the menu was chock-full of other tasty breakfast and lunch options. If I'm back in the neighborhood, I'll definitely give a breakfast croissant-wich a go. read more

I've been a follower of the magical Cupcakes for Courage truck for a while now, and I was ridiculously excited to find out that they were opening a bakery! I find myself in Elmhurst relatively frequently, so the location is perfect: close enough that I can get there occasionally, but far enough that I can restrain myself from going every day. Their cupcakes are my favorite cupcakes - moist and delicious with amazing frosting. You can tell that they are baked fresh daily. Some of the more famous chain cupcake shops downtown are good, but often taste a little stale because they have to produce them in such large quantities. Courageous Bakery only makes a finite number of flavors each day, so they're able to keep the quality high. My personal favorite flavors are French silk pie and chocolate peanut butter cup, but all of them are fantastic. I was able to stop in on the bakery's opening day and try the pistachio croissant, which was absolutely delicious. I will have to come back soon and sample more of their tantalizing breakfast pastries. Also, I must add that the shop itself is adorable! There are quite a few tables, so it's very inviting to stay and have breakfast and a coffee there before catching the train downtown or driving to work. I'm so excited to be here!!!! Saw a review from a fellow yelper and had to come and try it! I'm so happy I did! I walked in and the atmosphere overall was so inviting! The decor said cute little bakery with a big heart. I absolutely loved the light fixtures made of wire baskets. The pastel colors and chalk boards were a great touch. I tried the Veggie Burrito...YES THEY HAVE FOOD! It was ok. The ingredients tasted very fresh ... I think I'm just not a breakfast burrito type of person...it was my first time trying one... I honestly don't think I've ever had a regular burrito lol! The coffee was excellent. I chose the medium roast. I don't know what brand they are using but I loved it! I ate there so I was also given pastries with my food! Don't know what those were ... small round bites of heaven coated with sugar but they went great with that coffee. My niece was with me. She chose a root beer and a Vanilla Bean with chocolate frosting cupcake... these are her EXACT words... "this cupcake is to die for!" I tasted it and concurred! Completely impressed!! Found this place through Yelp when we wanted to try something different and DIFFERENT is exactly what we got! This little gem is a breath of fresh air!! The service was great. Food amazing! & the cupcakes were to die for!!! We ordered - Biscuits and gravy. What I liked about it was they had this was of sneaking herbs and maybe even veggies into the gravy! It's not the traditional country gravy you'd be use to but I really liked it a lot. Biscuits were fluffy and moist (sorry to the main population of people who hate that word ). Corned beef hash. Made with real corned beef that's melt-in-your-mouth-delicious. The red peppers gave it personality and I thought the melted cheese under the rest of the food made it interesting. Usually cheese is melted on top but this gave it a great peek-a-boo effect. Bravo! Choripapa. This is what the hubby got but I tried it too. Tasted great on it's own but once you add the hot sauce they give you it was amazing! He got the red sauce which they said was hotter than green. I was super happy to see they were open on Thanksgiving, but I hate to point this out because I don't want to get shut out at next Thanksgiving's Turkey Trot. It was nice and warm inside. The maple bacon donut was a good choice. It was sweet and salty and just the thing I needed before not-trotting the 3.1 miles. Ok, so I walked. In either case, the tea choices are good, the prices ... a tad high ... but worth the indulgence. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. 5 stars!!! I have been hoping to run into not-the-Peapod truck somewhere, but just haven't. Totally bummed, I called to see if I could just meet the truck early am in Elmhurst for a few sweet treats. My request was very sweetly DENIED. But, she did say that I could find a small sampling of her daily flavors at Brain Freeze. (Totally awesome ice cream shoppe - cash only - but a fam of 4 can eat with a ten spot!) So, I mosey over to Brain Freeze and they are totally sold out - on 3 seperate occassions. In the words of Charlie Brown... GOOD GRIEF! You could just imagine my excitement when I hopped off the train yesterday and saw the new storefront bakery! Aaaaaw - cue the angel's harp! An answer to my prayer! I ran in a carefully selected the Key Lime Cupcake. Bought it with the credit card, and was asked if I wanted my receipt printed or emailed or texted. I choose text, and started to give my number, but she already knew it! WTF? Holy David Copperfield, Batman! The next thing I knew my phone was vibrating with my text receipt. Apparently, my cell number is embedded in my debit card. Huh? Yep, big brother is always watching and knows so much more than I ever thought. Honestly, I'm so boring, I haven't really thought about it, but if I had.... Anyway, I digress... The key lime cupcake was FREAKIN DELISHIOUS! I could go into all the complexities of the flavor and presentation and texture and such, but FREAKIN DELISHIOUS pretty much sums it up! My expectation going into the bakery was that it would just be another overpriced cupcake shop. But it was my 29th wedding anniversary and so I figured that was a good enough reason to splurge on celebratory cupcakes. The lemon supreme pie cupcake, which happens to be gluten free, was delicious. I was excited that the lemon filling was not only on the top of the cupcake but was also inside the cupcake as a filling. I knocked one star off because just about every table needed to be bussed. I was doing carry out but I would have been put-out if I had wanted to eat my cupcake there and would have had to sit at a table that was not cleaned off. The family of 3 that was ordering when I got in sat at the counter and I wouldn't be surprised if it was because there were no clean tables for them to sit at. Hopefully, as soon as I left one of the two women behind the counter came out and cleaned off the tables. Service was very friendly. Two of their regular size cupcakes with tax cost $7.08. Definitely 29th wedding anniversary pricing, not every day pricing, for me anyways. read more

Today was Father's Day and my first time ever as a customer at this awesome Cafe!!! Definitely recommend checking it out. The staff is very nice and understanding. There was a huge backup in the kitchen, but the staff did their very best to attend to everyone coming in to dine in and also pick up their orders. While I understand from a customer point of view that it is annoying to have to wait a long time for your food (maybe even longer than expected), the Cafe staff offered quick refunds and even free bakery items to make up for the back-log in the kitchen. I personally got 2 giant cookies for free and I have no complaints!! I did have to wait over an hour to pick up my phone order BUT again, I would argue that 1) it was Father's Day and people underestimated how much people are dying to get out to eat, and 2) it is not the Cafe's fault that they get slammed with a ton of people. I was patient and understanding and never once found a reason to disrespect any staff member inside. (unlike many other customers I saw) I, for one, will definitely be checking this place out again and would highly recommend my friends do too! Food was delicious!! Just finished my food here from grubhub and wow! Everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the breakfast tacos as well as the gouda turkey sandwich that had an exceptional amount of turkey piled on a soft buttery croissant. The tacos were so good I had to stop myself from eating all of it, they give big chunks of fresh avocado. The hash towns were seasoned well and very crispy which I was worried they'd be soggy after the delivery. Everything was so fresh as if I was eating right at the restaurant. The little complimentary donut holes were a very cute touch that I really appreciated. It's unfortunate I live too far for delivery but when I'm at work this will be my go to place to order for breakfast and lunch. Keep up the good work! read more

I swung by Courageous Bakery recently and was blown away by it. The business started as a bake sale to raise money for a family friend with cancer, eventually became a food truck (that still operates), and is now this bakery. The friend is now cancer-free (yay!) but a percentage of the profits goes to cancer research. Cool. After admiring the shop (loved the green walls and amount of seating) and chatting with the employee, I looked over some of the cupcake options and decided to try the Lemon Supreme Pie cupcake for $3.50. Not a bad price. I got the cupcake to go. The cupcake stayed with me in a box until I was finally able to devour it an hour later while standing outside in the rain. It. Was. Amazing. I melted inside. I can't believe I waited an hour to eat it! Yet, this was the kind of cupcake I'd wait an hour to eat!! Mmmmm. It's not too often a cupcake satisfies me. Who can say bad things about cupcakes! Yum Yum is all I can think of! It was Mother's Day so I was looking for a cupcake bakery so I could get that for my Mom and Sister (and of course the rest of the family) to enjoy. I saw Cupcakes for Courage AKA the food truck I've always heard about. I was surprised they were so close and I never knew it all these years! Since they also give to charity, I knew this was the cupcake place to go. When I walked in, it was a very laid back, bo-ho feel to it. The worker's were all pretty young girls, but very friendly. I was kind of surprised that the selection of cupcakes wasn't as large like others I've been to but either way they had many good selections which was hard to choose from. I ended up getting a dozen and another 4 for my Boyfriend's Mom and family. I don't remember the exact price but the price was up there! It was Mother's day so it was worth the splurge, but normally I wouldn't get that many cupcakes. As far as the cupcakes, I've tried the chocolate, vanilla, and the black and white. All very tasty yet so simple. No crazy fillings or anything which I don't always like. I like to stick to basics when it comes to sweets. Each cupcake had a different type of icing. The all chocolate icing was very smooth, silky, and rich while the vanilla bean was nice a creamy and tasted perfectly sweet. It would be very hard to choose a fav. So, I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, and I'm glad I did. It's a quaint little place just near the train stop in Elmhurst. Although the menus seemed really vast, it wasn't the easiest place for a vegan to have breakfast at first glance, but the food I ordered was satisfying enough. Ordered the Lorain Sammy (bacon egg cheese on a croissant). Looked fantastic, but had no flavor. The bacon (by itself) was delish, but the entire sandwich was completely tasteless. The coffee is definitely not something they specialize in, it tasted like cheap coffee. I thought it was instant but was assured it was drip brewed. The cookie, that was very good. I loved everything about this place! Cute environment--very colorful and fun. The staff were really courteous. I got a breakfast burrito and it was delicious! It had eggs, potatoes, arugula, black beans, chorizo, avocado, cheddar, red bell peppers, and roasted salsa. Talk about delicious! All the flavors blended so well and it was absolutely so yummy. I had been craving a breakfast burrito and I'm glad I came here for that. It exceeded my expectations! Also tried one of their cupcakes. Peppermint Mocha. WOW! Please note that I had traveled all day and had this in my car for a while. The frosting was perfectly sweet -- not too sweet and had the right amount of coffee. The peppermint added a nice touch. There was also some cream (mocha) in the middle. So yummy! The only complaint was that there was one small section of the cupcake that may not have been mixed super well because I had tasted an INTENSE peppermint flavor which was very bitter and not pleasing. As I ate into it more I noticed that the rest of the cupcake had a mild flavor and wasn't as strong. I really enjoyed how moist it was too and so flavorful. A lot of places don't achieve that. What an absolute local gem! The interior is so cute to begin with, and the food is to die for! I got the mollete (a little Spanish twist on eggs benedict)and was so pleasantly surprised. It was tasty and came with an excellent sauce. My brother got the French omelette and loved it as well. We ended up getting a carrot cake cupcake and a cinnamon roll to go and their pastries were just as great as their brunch. Would highly recommend Courageous Bakery!! read more

Just dropped in for a quick treat b4 they closed for the day. The setup: 1:30ish on a Sunday. Me, the wife and kids. Place has a good amount of seating. I hear they have a killer brunch, but We were not in the mood and they seemed to be out of a lot of items since it was the end of the day. The style is decent and well put together. The Cupcakes: I have to say, they have some of the better cupcakes I have ever had (and that's a truck ton if you're wondering). Tried a Bacon Guinness, Peanut butter, Chocolate x2 and one other I cannot seem to remember(note to self:start taking notes). I thought the bacon cake was moist and had good flavor. I enjoyed that the ingredients were throughout and not just on top. The chocolate was kinda like fudge and also moist. My wife preferred the Peanut butter most of all. As far as the kids go... It had sugar-of course they loved them. They also make some simple cakes, I'm not sure if they make complicated designs or not. Price wise, I guess they are middle of the road. I also gather from the name that there is something behind it. I buzzed the story on the wall and could not find anything, has me wondering now. My experience at Courageous Bakery was very pleasant. My BF and I spotted the cupcake food truck outside and we decided to stop in. My boyfriend got the survivor cupcake, which he enjoyed. They also had gluten free cupcake options too. It was so cute inside the cafe, and their music playlist was awesome- how often do you hear neutral milk hotel in a bakery?! LOVE their cupcakes on location, ordered online for delivery, order for pick up AND their cupcake food truck (have gone to events just for these cupcakes). Personal favorites are their chocolate and peanut butter; and their peanut butter cupcakes. Recommend to anyone who loves delicious baked treats. I guess bc of covid theyre no longer fresh cupcakes but frozen. So when we picked ours up they were refrigerator-stale. Bland, tasteless. It was sooo disappointing especially paying so much for each cupcake. My other issue was you can only order online and the website is so annoying to use and not user friendly. I probably will not be back unfortunately. I gave three stars bc I did not try their food this time and it always used to be delicious so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it still is. read more

Amazing. I can't even believe a place like this exists. I moved here a few months ago and we've ordered through DoorDash almost every Sunday. Not only are their menu concepts so varied and delicious, their execution is consistently great! I can testify to the biscuit breakfast sandwich, Lorraine sammie, traditional, Biscuits and Gravy, Choripapa, strawberry donut, hazelnut croissant, cold brew, and Oaxacan (sp?) latte. If I have to say anything bad at all, it's that I prefer my bacon crispier but the taste is still sooo good. I normally wouldn't call (what I consider to be) a breakfast place my "favorite restaurant" but it actually might be. Looking forward to going in person soon! read more

I've ordered from here twice with Uber eats. The first time I ordered biscuits and gravy with a short stack of pancakes. The biscuits and gravy were good. My pancakes were burned so hard to enjoy. I tried it again and got chiquilles and wanted to give the pancakes another try. The chiquilles were good but they forgot to put chicken in it.BUT the pancakes arrived perfect this time. I don't know. The food is decent but they need to be more consistent.. This place has become my go to recently when I want breakfast food. It's close to me and delivery gets to me pretty quick. I got my food as ordered and it was very good. Plus I'm trying to support local restaurants more than ever. read more
