A…read morefriend who was a former employee had been urging me for years to try it, however, I'm typically only in Kent for lunch, and too anxious to get home when the tavern opens at 4pm. I am thrilled to have finally had the opportunity! The feel of the place is precisely what you would imagine in Kent. Traditional old-style dark wood, a sense of community, perfect decor to harken back to the days of stage coaches and taverns being the center of a town's social scene. Service was excellent. We never wanted for anything - but yet were not bombarded or crowded in the quaint dining room setting. The best and most important part of our meal was - well - the food. The menu is suitable for literally any dietary need without compromising their spin on elevated tavern/comfort food. Ample appetizers, interesting salads, tacos, meat/non-meat and even vegan options abound - all with terrific portion size and execution. Our entire group was pleased (and some are persnickety). Very much looking forward to returning and grateful they are in our great town.

BEST. CAKE. EVER. If you haven't ordered a cake from Peg, please go do so immediately. (For more on…read morethe cake you can skip down to the paragraph that starts with "There are NO WORDS...") I also had the best service. I live in San Francisco and needed to find a place to bake a birthday cake for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday party. 24 people were gathering at Interlaken Inn to celebrate. I reached out to about 3 places and Peg got back to me immediately--all via email. Through email I told her we wanted a chocolate cake with fresh fruit and whip cream in the middle. She said she needed to make two 9" rounds to feed the 24 of us. I picked up the cake on Saturday afternoon and asked for two sandwiches to go (turkey)) and they were both delicious, FYI! Saturday evening we celebrated at the Millerton Inn Restaurant. The kitchen put a candle on the cake (we had forgotten!) and after we sang Happy Birthday they cut the cakes and handed out the slices. There are NO WORDS to describe how much every single person in our group raved over this cake! It was super moist. The fresh fruit brought a lovely light acidity to the chocolate, and the whip cream was light and not too sweet. The cake wasn't too sweet either. My stepdaughter's husband actually never eats cake because he thinks it is too sweet and honestly, we couldn't stop him from seconds (and thirds) and each time he was in awe of how much he loved it! It was incredibly rewarding for me to see everyone so happy with the cake! Peg--THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You're a baking genius. I'm only sad I can't get your cakes in San Francisco. And if any of this sounds like hyperbole, I assure you it is not. If anything, I haven't done a proper job describing the love your cake engendered.

Fife 'n Drum on Main Street has an inn & gift shop in 1 building, and a restaurant in another building. Hardly any customers at the time we went, however there were several very nice & welcoming staff. White tablecloths, but it's not an over the top fancy place. The menu is varied - salads, sandwiches & some nicer dining options. I had the burger with pineapple chutney, cheddar cheese & bacon. My husband had a turkey club. Both came with thin crispy fries. And both were very good. Actually, my burger was very delicious & very difficult to eat (the bottom of the brioche bun was soaked from the burger/toppings) . The pineapple salsa did go really well with the burger though - I wished there was more of it. Maybe serve it on the side? Relaxing music (soft jazz, Frank Sinatra, etc ) was playing on their speaker. And it looked like they had an actual piano bar there. Wonder when there is live music? No room for dessert, even though it looked like they had some great options: wild blueberry pie, Creme brûlée & Arethusa ice cream.

Everyone seems to use pretty much the same recipe with some slight variations. The muffins I had here were weird. I don't know what that dominant spice they used is but it was really kind of awful. Weird is just the only word I can think of to describe it. And the muffin was not dense at all. It kind of fell apart when you bit into it. I took a "sour cherry" pastry home snd it was ok. The apricot scone was bleh. I think this place will be a skip in the future.

By far, the best jalapeño cheddar bagel I've ever had. I don't know how they made it but angels most definitely had to be involved. Order it with the scallion cream cheese and pay the extra $0.50 for the capers, it's worth it. I don't live in the area, so I will pray to the food gods to present me with an opportunity to return & eat that sandwich again.

She was very friendly throughout our 10 minute stay here as we chose what we want, purchased, and sat down to eat our pastries. The inside of this bakery was spacious and clean. When we came, there were no other customers since they close at 4pm. In terms of selection, I was kind of disappointed to see not a lot of options. However, we were informed that if we were looking for more choices to pick from, that it would be best to come early in the morning. That's understandable and I will certainly do that going forward when I have a craving and am in the area! Excited to see more delicious options! From what we saw, I ended getting a chocolate frosted doughnut, and my friends got a jelly filled doughnut and a cannoli with chocolate and pistachios. The chocolate frosted doughnut was more dense than I wanted but it was still good and satisfied my craving. I also tried the jelly doughnut and that one was more airy and less dense and more of the consistency of how a doughnut should be! The cannoli is different than the typically Italian ones - the cream is light and whipped, not at all dense, and less sweet. The chocolate dip and pistachios are a nice touch!
