Ordered a breakfast for takeout, was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I showed up approximately 25-30 minutes later and there was this older woman behind the counter that seemed overwhelmed by what I do not know because the establishment was empty. She was feverishly bagging up an order. I asked if my order was ready and she angrily told me it wasn't ready yet, I was going to have to wait. 'Oh really?' I thought. Then I turned on my heel and walked out. Let that old broad eat that ish. I'm not going to be spoken to in a nasty manner and then hand out my money after that treatment. Visiting from out of town, one of the things we miss about the Hudson Valley is a NY Deli. This has all the required elements, great breakfast sandwiches, the usual bagels, hard rolls, deli sandwiches and prepared foods. Service was fast and friendly. We will be back! read more

Never, until now, have I been to a deli and enjoyed all their cooked food. I was told that they incorporate old traditional family recipes. The potatoes salad is what got me. They also have a pasta salad, bean salad, and I haven't even gotten to the food yet. There's meat balls, meatloaf and wings. They feature a sub of the day for a discounted price. And the people are friendly. The only downside is they are a bit pricey. But you know the saying, "you get what you pay for." And it definitely shows! read more

This deli has been in the area for longer than me, and in recent years switched from A1-Deli to Nicks Delicatessan. The deli is quaint and has many things you may need from deodorant to chips and beer. The staff is very friendly and its generally a welcoming atmosphere. Ive eaten here several times and the food always tastes good. Usually I will phone my order in ahead of time for times sake as the service here is not fast if you wait. Its not incredibly slow, but just not fast. My only other gripes are pkrtion size and price. There are cheaper delis in the area that provide "more bang for the buck". When I frequent this deli its usually because it has a convenient location for whatever Im doing at the moment. One thing I will say is pretty cool is they have craft beers on tap and growlers for sale. Great idea! Overall this deli will not leave you unhappy and provides a decent meal from some pretty friendly people. * Note - Try the "hobo" for breakfast. I'm devastated. The deli has new owners now and the potato salad is gone. How can I find the old owners and get the recipe??? If you know the old owners then pretty please send me a message. The deli hasn't changed much otherwise. Still your average run-of-the-mill deli but now it's called Nick's Delicatessen. Honestly, I've only been there for their cheaply priced milk or a drink but that's about it. I'm not a huge deli person but it seems on par compared to others. The place kind of reminds me of a convenience store and the food is a little overpriced but it can be decent depending on what you get. They don't have price tags on anything so it's always scary to purchase anything. As far as customer service, I've known close people who have worked there and say it's not worth it and I notice they go through a lot of workers especially due to the owner's personal liking in attractive female workers. I rarely ever see Nick himself besides them but that may be just bad timing. That said I can't say much about their staff since I can't average the service for each one gives since it varies quite a bit and often. read more

Our go-to spot! I love that they carry Boar's Head meats and cheeses. The staff is friendly and the owner Nick is a hoot! Really great family-ran business. The store is is always spotless, which is sometimes hard to come across in the deli-world. The menu is HUGE! From cold and hot subs to full lunch and dinner platters! They also dont just serve your average sandwich, they go above and beyond on the taste factor. Think; Mediterranean Panini: Prosciutto, Ham Cappy, Fresh Mozzarella, Artichoke, Sun-Dried Tomato, Olives, Onion, Roasted Red Peppers & Fresh Basil, SOOOO GOOD. Oh! And the BEER! Nick is a wonderful man. He is gracious and very much reminds me of the kind of delis that my Mother went to in the Bronx when she was young. You can be a few cents or a dollar short and Nick doesnt mind fronting you for the money. He knows his customers and they are loyal and will come back. When my cat was lost they posted a "lost cat" sign and taped it on their counter for me. Very good people! read more

Being a New Yorker in the South one of the things that I miss the most is a good hometown delicatessen- the A-1 being the top of my list. I plan my trips home around getting some of their german potato salad, if there is room after a quart ( j/k) of potato salad I move on to a killer sandwich made with Boar's Head cold cuts. Moved away about 15 years ago (to SC). The last time I was here it was the A1 Deli. My husband and I are in town for a week and decided to stop in. I'm glad we did! The store is a little different in the layout, but the quality of food is excellent. We had the Italian combo on a hard roll (they ran out of sub rolls). It was fantastic. Plenty of meat, cheese and "fixins" as they say down south. The potato salad is exactly as I remember it. We're going back before we head out of town. read more
