Our friend group was staying nearby for the weekend and thought this experience would be fun. We were right. We learned a lot about the family passion that led to the opportunity of even being able to peek at these majestic animals. Tip: bring a big bag of carrots, maybe 2. The Clydesdales look for those snacks and will give you a lot of attention in return. We brought a lunch from a nearby shop and ate it while we were pulled in the trailer. What an awesome experience. Let me start by saying this was my best friends idea and I just went along for the ride literally. I was amazed on how much I ended up loving it. They send you pretty detailed instructions for the tour. Once you arrive, you park outside the gate, then they come get you so you can follow them into their massive property. They are great with providing instructions for those who are nervous and even those who are experienced. Just the right amount of time for the group to go on the trail ride, take photos and enjoy the outdoors. There's a nice stop where they take amazing photos of you and the view. There's porta potties at the ranch so if you need to go try to go beforehand. read more

Everything was amazing about this ranch! First of all I had no idea this hidden gem was even in Cambria! The property was beautiful, I think it was 1800 acres and it was home to over 40 Clydesdales, miniature donkeys, wild turkeys, occasional deer, cows etc. The family that owns it has a great Rich history with it definitely read the bio! First of all the enthusiasm of the owner the entire time we were on our tour was 100% the whole time! You could tell she really loves each and every Clydesdale and what she does. When we went there were about 40 Clydesdales, and two babies on the way. The tour that we check was well organized and we were able to get out at a couple of spots and interact with the Clydesdales and the miniature donkeys. They also offer horse rides which I'll definitely want to go back and do, can't imagine 4 foot 10 me on a giant Clydesdale when I'm up to the challenge! read more

Such a fun experience! Memorable, morning trail ride with a nice little group of horse lovers. Very knowledgeable staff that emphasized safety and kindness to these awesome, sensitive animals. They allowed time and took pics on horses halfway through the ride, and after the ride to hang out w/the horses, mini donkeys, and ranch doggie. We hope to go back and maybe be brave enough to not wear helmets next time. If you can, remember to bring full-sized carrots to feed the horses. I recommend booking well ahead of time, bc it's a bit more complicated than just buying tix online. But once you're scheduled, everything goes very smoothly. P.S. Tara is helpful and kind to guests and the love she has for her animals is evident. We were introduced to the saddle and provided instructions and assistance to get up on the beautiful horses. All the animals were gentle and well behaved. The ride even included a gallop- yippee! Instructions were also provided along the trail by both Tara and her assistant Cloie. The views were amazing. After we were welcomed to pet the mules and 2 baby clysdales. When the saddles were taken off the horses, it was so cute to watch them actually walk themselves back to their corral. This ranch is very impressive. We met Tara at the gate at 3pm sharp. We paid & then followed her through the gate. I would have been happy with just the drive through the property to the hitching posts. There were beautiful clydesdales everywhere. Babies too. Tara and her assistant, Sidney, were very kind, patient & professional. These girls impressed us. They treat their animals very kindly. They gave us all a brief but thorough riding lesson so that we were all on the same page & rode these horses the way they were trained to be ridden. These beautiful animals were so gentle, respectful of one another, had nice manners, well behaved & never made any sudden movements. They took us on the most beautiful ride of a life time. Such a fun and unique experience! The horses are trained not to graze on trail and are easy and fun to ride. They gave just the right amount of instruction before matching riders with appropriate horses. You get to trot for a little portion of the out and back trail that was still green and gorgeous when I went. Booking is done via text and bring cash the day of the ride if you want to avoid a credit card fee. I also loved meeting the free roaming donkey and the dogs that want you to throw rocks for them to fetch. A super sweet bonus was the Clydesdale foal I got to give scritches to. This is an amazing tour!! My daughter and I and my 2 grandsons ages 4 and 4 months went in the tour and Tara was an amazing host driving a fun gator!! Stunning and wonderful (and enormous) horses. Tara was great to coordinate with - when winds picked up the day of she gave us immediate notice and a few options. We followed through with the ride and she gave great 'just in case' instructions. I'm a novice rider, my wife has more experience and training, we were paired up with horses that were well suited for us. All told a wonderful time. We were visiting Hearst Castle and The Clydesdale Ranch from San Diego. Our group loved the Farm more than Hearst Castle. We enjoyed riding on the back of a flat trailer with the farm dog chasing us while driving around the property. It was so fun to interact with the Senior Clydesdale and the Stallion being a bit fussy because of all the female horses. My husband had not ridden a horse before and was a little nervous but they quickly put him at ease & gave an excellent little training session before we headed out on the trail. I didn't even know about this wonderful place. A friend of mine spends a lot of time in Cayucus and asked if I'd like to ride Clydesdales. But, of course, YES, please! Tara does reservations by text. I would consider myself a super beginner but not afraid of horses. She did a great job instructing us on handling the reins and being safe. These horses are highly trained and well-behaved. Honestly, I didn't have to do much to have a great experience. The property is beautiful with views for miles. My favorite was the ocean view. You'll be greeted by 2 friendly dogs. There are mini donkeys, but we didn't see them as they were off doing donkey business. It's definitely worth doing this riding tour. Amazing experience. I drove from Fresno to Cambria in the early morning for a last-minute 9 AM trail ride. Tara was fast and responsive over phone so she was able to get me in just a few days before the trail ride! Instructions were easy to follow as far as getting to the ranch. She was nice but also very to the point and trusted everybody to follow instructions. Even for those who've never sat on a horse she was very clear without being stern or coming across rude. The horses were all saddled up and ready to go so we went straight into the ride. Beautiful scenery especially on the Saturday I went, 61 and sunny. I would definitely recommend this for anybody who's never gone on horseback, the Clydesdales(although large and intimidating) were all well behaved, well taken care of, and a total joy. I will advise that if you have gone on horseback before this trail could be a bit tame for your liking. One way up and the same way back down. If you have experience it could leave you wanting more but otherwise I have done nothing but gush about this experience. My kids have watched the videos I've taken and they want to go, we will of course be returning! read more

OMG the Clydesdales are so sweet and well taken care of! I LOVED visiting the ranch and did not want to leave. Tara let us hang out for a bit after our ride to just hang out at the ranch and give treats to the various horses and goats and such. And the dog! I forget her name but she was so cute, she kept wanting to play fetch with a rock, bless her heart! There was only one other couple on our ride and they had riding experience too so we were able to trot a bit, which was great. I don't think my horse (Marshall) was interested in trotting though; after all, Clydesdales are known for pulling more than riding. Every animal we met at this ranch was friendly. The Clydesdales were like riding big couches; super comfy and easy to ride. We were beyond impressed with the fact that this is a family owned business run by a 24-year-old wonder woman who manages 50+ horses and thousands of acres of land and every single animal was well-groomed, well-fed and appeared very healthy. WOW! We were more than happy to support this business and highly recommend it to everyone. We will be back every time we visit Cambria. read more

This was a fantastic & wonderful experience, I had to add this to my reviews! We didn't have major travel plans this year, with airfare being too costly to travel internationally, so we have been doing short road trip-type stay-cations - and this one was absolutely worth every minute! Our friends told us about it, & we had this planned for a long time, but alas, they came down with Covid, so it was just my husband & I - we weren't sure if it would be "as fun" but it turned out to be quite an adventure! This is not the easiest place to get up to, Cambria is a small town, and up small roads off the Pacific Coast Hwy. Follow the instructions given if you plan to visit! We were to meet our guide at the entrance of the ranch, and they came out as planned - then they had us follow them in with our cars as we headed into the ranch. Glad they brought us in, we'd be totally lost, LOL! Upon arrival, we saw the beautiful Clydesdale horses saddled & ready in one area. We were then given instructions on what to do, how to ride, & so on, which was super helpful & clear. Tara was the one that gave the instructions, & they assigned us the various horses based on our experience & how comfortable we were. They helped us on the horses, & with final instructions specific to each horse, we were off on the trail! I apparently had the "laziest" of the horses named Mona, who moved slower in general, but she was a sweetheart! My husband rode on Christine, who was also a little slower, and who was quite "gassy" and it was pretty funny hearing her pass gas for most of the ride, LOL! As we were the slower horses, we did have some trouble hearing Tara, who was leading in the front, and what she shared about the area we missed, unfortunately. The next time I come up here, I'm going to tell her I'm more comfortable & will hopefully ride with the faster horses in front, ha ha! The views were just absolutely incredible, you could see far out towards the ocean, or into the hills & valleys, & though the sun was shining, it was not as hot as expected, with a nice sea breeze blowing through! I've had a chance to do some horseback riding many, many years ago, but never on Clydesdales, & these are such gentle & beautiful creatures, you have to visit if you love horses! It's a bit expensive for a ride, but I think it was worth every minute, & it was quite therapeutic & peaceful! Note that you can't carry anything with you on the ride, other than your phones to take pics (which had to be silent) so as not to spook the horses. So don't plan on bringing water either, & drink plenty before your trip. Porta-potty was available where we parked the cars but bring hand sanitizer, no sink! It also does get dusty, at least in the summer, with more dirt around than grass, so maybe wear a mask if you have issues with the dust. We totally enjoyed our experience, and hopefully, next time around, we can actually go with our friends who missed out! read more
