Such a fun experience! Memorable, morning trail ride with a nice little group of horse lovers. Very knowledgeable staff that emphasized safety and kindness to these awesome, sensitive animals. They allowed time and took pics on horses halfway through the ride, and after the ride to hang out w/the horses, mini donkeys, and ranch doggie. We hope to go back and maybe be brave enough to not wear helmets next time. If you can, remember to bring full-sized carrots to feed the horses. I recommend booking well ahead of time, bc it's a bit more complicated than just buying tix online. But once you're scheduled, everything goes very smoothly. P.S. Christine is a very gassy old mare - which helped ease our nerves a bit - we loved her sassy self :)

The best priced ride around! Two hours in the beautiful hills with an ocean view! The horses were HUGE but calm and the trail guides full of helpful information. We would go again!

It's been a dream of mine to ride a Clydesdale since I was a little girl. Yesterday my husband and I went on the most amazing trail ride with Tara and her beautiful Clydesdales! It was my husbands very first time riding and she put him on the sweetest mare Maple who took great care of him. I have years of riding experience but it's been a decade since I had ridden but Belle was perfect for my riding abilities. It was the perfect weather and the best experience ever if you've never ridden, or been riding your whole life! Before we even got off our horses my husband was already asking me when we can go back. 10/10 definitely will be coming back for years to come

Tara is helpful and kind to guests and the love she has for her animals is evident. We were introduced to the saddle and provided instructions and assistance to get up on the beautiful horses. All the animals were gentle and well behaved. The ride even included a gallop- yippee! Instructions were also provided along the trail by both Tara and her assistant Cloie. The views were amazing. After we were welcomed to pet the mules and 2 baby clysdales. When the saddles were taken off the horses, it was so cute to watch them actually walk themselves back to their corral. A beautiful place, run by a thoughtful and smart lady and family. Go for a ride. There's a dirt road so don't wash your car before you go!

Amazing ride... the girls were super nice and helpful and learning how to ride the big horses. The views were spectacular! A great ride for all ages. We got to pet the horses and the mini donkeys, dogs and cats. Got our dose of animals!

What an amazing experience! If you have the chance to ride a Clydesdale on Covell Ranch you better take it. Super fun, easy and the views are amazing. My 6 year old granddaughter had the best time and we made a great memory when she visited me. Park at the gate and Tara Covell Key will come and get you. From there it is all a great experience. She also has an option for people to ride in a wagon so everyone can enjoy an experience seeing the beautiful ranch and the huge herd of Clydesdales. Well worth the cost.

Tara and Chloe were the best ever trail guides. The horses were amazing, fun and easy to ride. The ranch itself is magical...we didn't want to leave! Do yourself a favor and ride a Clydesdale at Covell Ranch. You'll be glad you did. Worth every penny!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Covell's Ranch! I have loved Clydesdales since I was a child and when I found out we could actually ride them I booked immediately. We had a wonderful time and our guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, and helped everyone feel comfortable and safe. I can't wait to go back!

Tara and Sydney are amazing guides and hosts. They took us on a beautiful trail ride on the Clydesdale horses. Totally recommend going and doing a ride.

Such a fun and unique experience! The horses are trained not to graze on trail and are easy and fun to ride. They gave just the right amount of instruction before matching riders with appropriate horses. You get to trot for a little portion of the out and back trail that was still green and gorgeous when I went. Booking is done via text and bring cash the day of the ride if you want to avoid a credit card fee. I also loved meeting the free roaming donkey and the dogs that want you to throw rocks for them to fetch. A super sweet bonus was the Clydesdale foal I got to give scritches to. Really rooting for the success of family business. They care about their animals, train them well and are so nice.

I highly recommend! We took my sister here for her bachelorette party and it was the highlight of everyone's weekend. Tara was incredible. Her horses are well trained and safe for all levels. The ranch was beautiful! We enjoyed interacting with all the beautiful horses and Pancho, the mini donkey.

Views of the ocean from the halfway point of the tide. We stopped and took lots of photos before heading back.

Ask the Community - Covells Clydesdale Ranch

Is there a weight limit for the rider to ride on the Clydesdale? Do you need horseback riding…

Their website says 300 pound limit

    Hi, can you run horses?

No, they don't run the clydesdales. If you run them it is not a smooth graceful run according to the tour guides. Enjoy your ride, we did.

I had reserved a junior suite for the large soaking tub as advertised on their website. We arrived at 8:30 pm after driving 3 hours after work to get there. We were given a handicapped accessible room that did not have the large soaking tub. When I went back to the front desk to ask for a different room I was told there were no other options, "I reserved a Junior Suite and I received a junior suite. If I didn't like it I could check out." Note: there was an option to reserve the handicap accessible suite or a regular suite on the website. I had reserved the regular suite. There was no apology, no attempt to rectify the situation. The front desk staff were so cold and heartless. The response of either take it or leave it left in tears. I sent an email Monday morning after we returned home. I have yet to receive a response to my email. Not even a simple acknowledgement and we will look into this and get back to you. We had to find another hotel room at 9 pm on a Friday night. No small venture in Cambria during the summer. Clearly this hotel does not care about their customers especially repeat customers. Needless to say WE WILL NEVER reserve another room here. Do better Cambria Pines Lodge!!! Thanks for ruining my anniversary!!

Had a room with a king bed and fireplace. It was so cute and cozy. I will say all of these places down here are Basically boutique motels so some of the things, like the shower drain and door, and window sills could be newer, but everything was clean and cute! The theming is even better in person and the grounds are soo nice. We walked around the other hotels in the area and this one is by far the best in terms of the grounds! If you have a dog, this is the place!!! We can't wait to come back! The Cow Tipper was good for breakfast too, dog friendly once again! We loved the trails right across the street! In terms of being close to the water and cliffs you really can't beat the location on this! Just a couple smalls things to note: The fireplaces outside don't get too hot outside so pack blankets if you plan to hang out! Still fun and cozy! Cambria is way colder than you think it will be!! The bed in our room didn't have a red comforter on it, and my parents room did, I thought it was because we had a dog as a guest but after leaving I see pictures of comforters and dogs in the rooms so I'm not really sure why we didn't get one? When we got there, there was blood stains on the white sheets (just looked stained not fresh blood/dirty) and the girl on the phone was really weird about getting us new sheets and kept saying it's rust not blood but she never even came up to see it...either way housekeeping staff came by a couple minutes later and were very helpful and apologetic unlike her! The morning staff, a young man was very helpful! Someone keeps smoking weed by the fires and he handled it was such haste! It was refreshing! Thank you everyone! We will be back!

However, things have been going downhill drastically the past few years. We believe it's the turn of staffing. There appears to be a lack of pride and "maturity" in customer service & standards. We just returned from our second trip of the year last night. This review reflects this trip, but the previous one was as bad. The rodeo suite (the bridal suite that costs a good amount of money) has multiple issues. The bathroom sink is clogged and doesn't drain. The shower door doesn't close. The bathroom door isn't secure. The workers for the hotel grounds were behind us BY THE WINDOW while we showered. BLOOD and holes on the sheets. The kitchen was filthy - the stovetop, top of refrigerator, interior and exterior of cabinets are covered with grime. Curtains in the kitchen and living area are torn and broken. No wine glasses provided in the suite and the staff wouldn't provide any, yet the restaurant has them. (Seems odd in a bridal suite) This suite and other rooms we've stayed in have ants. Mikey & Angel are extremely rude and dismissive - not only our experience, but other patrons that gathered & compared stories. Last visit we received a refund for issues, but this visit we didn't bother discussing these concerns, as the staff was so rude to patrons it seemed they wouldn't care about standards. (Mikey needs to be taught to turn and look at customers when they are checking in, rather than dismiss them as though they are not worth his time) The one moment worth a high-five was provided by Bree. Thank you Bree for dragging a bench to our suite so our dog could access the high bed! :) We hope that corporate considers our honest review and those by others to improve the hotel. For the price we are willing to pay we have expectations of a more elevated experience as we have had in years past. Attached are photos of the the blood on the sheets, dirty kitchen, torn curtains, clogged sink, etc....

Once you arrive, the staff gets you geared up with all the safety equipment and everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, and great with all ages. After gearing up, you take an old Army style jeep up the mountain and that ride alone was an adventure Super rickety, steep, and fun! We felt very safe the entire time because before every single zip line, the staff carefully checked everyone's safety gear and connections. There are 6 zip lines total and each one is different with spectacular views that change throughout the course. One thing to know is that you should be in reasonably good shape because there are mini hikes between some of the zip lines. There are lots of water stations along the course, which was great, but the experience is definitely active and you do not want to hold up the group. Totally worth it though and such a memorable Central Coast adventure for families, couples, teens, and adventurous kids!
