We were having a few issues with our Kitchen Aid refrigerator. The freezer would accumulate frost buildup and water would leak out onto the kitchen floor. We called Covina Appliance as they were fairly local and had good Yelp reviews. We scheduled an appointment and they came out to inspect. They diagnosed the problem as a clogged drain, but they also recommended changing the drawer slides to allow for better closure. We agreed and waited several weeks for the parts to come in. Once the parts came in, the technician came out to replace the slides and clear the drain. He confirmed that the work would now resolve the issues we were experiencing. Within a few weeks, we noticed that ice was continuing to accumulate in the freezer. Given that we were out of town during the holidays, we figured we'd deal with it afterwards. We called the office and had the office staff look up the work order. They confirmed that frost buildup was part of the original request that was addressed. When we explained that the problem was not satisfactorily addressed, we were told that the labor warranty was only good for 30 days, and we were 5 days late! Unbelievable! The only offer we received was a waiver of the service triage fee, but would still be liable for the frost repair, which had already been quoted and paid for during the previous visit. Why would I even consider paying for them to come inspect it again in the first place? Not much of an offer. No thanks. Bottom line, they upsold us on drawer slides we really didn't need, but failed to resolve the actual problem. I would have expected some consideration given that we've done business with Covina Appliance a few times this past year. But given this latest encounter, I am forced to take my business elsewhere. read more

The time frame was 9am to 12pm, but Archie showed up just after 9am, so that was great. He figured out the problem and replaced the igniter. He used OEM Whirlpool parts so that's a plus. You definitely do not want to get aftermarket parts. OEM or nothing! He was fast, reliable and honest. He took a look at the coils too while he was fixing the igniter, but he said I still had a newer unit and doesn't need any replacements yet. Other shops could have easily upsold parts that don't need replacing for over a decade, but Archie and Covina Appliance do honest work at a fair price! Thanks! Our dryer broke down Saturday, running but no heat. So I called my regular technician Danny but unfortunately his bussiness close maybe due to the pandemic. So I found Covina Appliance in "Yelp" and talked to Nicole today and nice of her to set us up for today, same day service. Story short, Aaron, the technician that worked there for 20 years arrived and amazingly finished the repairs in less than 10 minutes. I was about to cook some popcorn to watch but just like "Tyson" he was already done replacing the dead fuse and broken thermostat. Impressive!!! He even cleaned behind and under the dryer. Yes I found my new repair shop and will recommend them to everyone for help. Professional; reliable; on time; talk about speed, yes, quick service; knowledgeable about the problem! Had a refrigerator diagnosed and a part replaced (Whirlpool Freezer Fan Motor) I'll start with the good: 1. The technician had the part I needed and installed it in about 50 minutes 2. It fixed the issue from what I can tell so far 3. They came out the same day, a few hours after we discovered the problem And now the bad: 1. Apparently you're not allowed to question how much they are charging you for a part ($189) that I was able to find online as low as $25 and at most $145. This is when the attitude started by their technician who condescendingly informed me multiple times that he had 36 years of experience. Guess that translates to how dare you question me. He did offer that the cheap prices I saw were not Whirlpool manufactured (aka OEM), but some mid to higher priced ones certainly were. 2. He then flashed a few webpages at me showing his price of $141 but I had no time to really verify what he was showing me. He also flashed one priced at $186 or so. I don't know maybe it was legit but who could tell given the 1 second I had to look. 3. In any Case, a $58 mark-up? I know we've had a lot of inflation but this seems to be a bit of gouging going on. Maybe that's fair I don't know. 4. The total bill was $409 before taxes. So they charged $220 per hour for labor. I guess I understand their expertise is valuable, but wow. I was hesitant to agree to the price (more on that later), but was also already on the hook for $99 for the diagnostic test so changing to another company means losing this and maybe encountering another semi-shady company. 5. I then got a mini lecture when I asked if I could use their $15 savings offer posted on the main page of their website right by the owner's picture. That's when I was told I couldn't because he was already doing me a favor by removing some ice build-up in the freezer. "That's 30 bucks I saved you so no," he said. Umm okay? Then he quickly followed that by mentioning that he was offsetting the $15 against the 5-10 minutes I spent deciding whether to proceed. Guess you have to decide instantaneously in this line of work. My bad... He summed it by saying I'm basically giving you a break already. 6. My water line must have gotten kinked after he pushed the refrigerator back in place. Now it barely dispenses water. I can fix it but how about a little pride next time. Of course, there will be no next time on my part and I will certainly share this experience with friends, neighbors and family. I thought being in business for 56 years might mean they were dependable and had happy customers. Well count me out, definitely not satisfied with the experience. P.S. I was at least given some condescending advice as he left. He said you purchased the wrong fridge and that he had a Whirlpool too, but one with certain features that help to avoid the issues I was having. Disappointed with Incomplete Work I hired Covina Appliance Services to fix my Whirlpool Washer. It would not stay balanced when in the spin cycle. Unfortunately, the job was not completed as agreed. Archie came out November 7th and said it needed a part and that we were over filling the machine. But said it was fixed when he left. ( Charged 150.00) I tried a load that evening and it was not fixed. Archie came out again and this time said it was my bearings. I asked if I should just get a new machine and he said no it was a great machine. ( paid 100.00 deposit to order part machine still not fixed) He came out December 5th to fix the bearings. Told me not to use it for 24 hrs because he had to use glue and it needed to dry. i waited until the next day to do laundry and machine still bounced around. I tried calling several times and no return call or anyone to fix it yet ( paid 450.00 for bearings) ) Despite this, I was charged in full 450.00 and told, "it should be all good," which is completely unacceptable. The work remains unfinished, and the lack of communication and accountability has been frustrating. I've tried reaching out to resolve the issue, but Archie only has service hours from 8:30-9:00 and nobody else can come out. It is now January 2nd almost 2 months from service and still my washer is not fixed. I expected a professional approach and quality service but instead was met with poor execution and dismissive behavior. I cannot recommend Covina Appliance Service based on this experience. I hope they take this feedback seriously and improve their practices. read more

I always try to support a local small business. I had bought items from here before. However, there must have been a change. I went in and bought a simple fuse for a diet. It costs $20 which is steep. I can get a 3 pack for $5.37 on Amazon. But you want to support a small business. Then I got a new dryer hose while I'm at it. The dryer house wasn't long enough so I had to return it. With receipt in hand and I paid cash, they wouldn't refund me in cash. They had to put it on my debit card. They also charged me for the bag I opened so I didn't even get all of my money back. I will never buy anything here again. read more

Aaron did a great job repairing my 15 year old refrigerator, which after 15 years started pooling water under thr crispers. He came out and got right to work. I called Covina Appliance when my new dishwasher seemed to be missing a piece where the 3/8 water hose connects to the dishwasher. I was immediately connected to who I thought was just a friendly receptionist, but boy was I wrong. She asked me for the model number and proceeded to investigate the matter further. She concluded correctly, that the part was not a whirlpool part but rather it was a fitting that I should be able to find at a hardware store. Most businesses would have taken advantage and made it seem more involved so they could make money, but no, this business is different.
