I was in the mood for an ice cream late Monday afternoon and always wanted to try this little shop in my area as it's loved by all the locals in Covina. It's a quick service window ordering type of place with a table outside. Plenty of parking. I ordered a strawberry sundae, the strawberries were a little old looking and old tasting so I didn't eat too many of them. The vanilla ice cream itself though was top tier, very creamy and delicious. There is a bit of a language barrier so their preference is to order by number and it shows what is aligned with the number on the menu. Wow! This business was closed for several months. When I drove by and saw it open, I was super excited because in the past their ice cream and food was delicious. Now, not so much. The lady that was taking the orders was hard to understand. She handed me a disheveled piece of paper and I pointed out an ice cream cone swirl with chocolate and vanilla, it was three dollars. I ask about chocolate dip she said yes six dollars. That seemed like quite a jump, but we want, what we want. I paid and ordered. What a mess! The cone did not come dipped. It looked like she scooped chocolate sauce on top and it ran down the cone everywhere. Also, because the chocolate was hot. The ice cream also was melting all the way down the cone. She quickly wrapped two napkins around it and handed it to me. I am telling you, it was a disaster. I asked for more napkins and she handed me one more. It was leaking so bad, that made it almost inedible. I did my best to eat around and control the mess. The chocolate was horrible tasting and clumped everywhere. I got up and threw it in the trash. Went back to the window, but she was nowhere to be found. After I got into my car to pull away, I noticed she was in a little side room sitting at a table. This really is unfortunate. Today is December 16th 2025 and there is a grand reopening sign on the front windows. The inside looks like it's been repainted and cleaned up, but the old owner I do not see. Not sure if this spot offers food, there was allot of traffic for the deserts from what I could see. The building looks pretty run down but as long as the deserts were tasty I didn't mind how the establishment looked on the outside. Love that I found this spot so randomly! I only frequent covina to visit family & I love hunting for vegan friendly food & stumbled upon this gem ! I call them the fosters freeze for vegans . They have burgers , ice creams , shakes , fries, egg rolls that most you'll find to be fully vegan! I was so impressed ! It's honestly hard to find vegan spots as such . Got a custom shake with strawberries & chocolate yum ! Loved their burgers ! They are literally like a fosters freeze where you order at the window & up to you if you want to dine in ther outside dining area , I usually dine in my car in situations like this ! They were also very nice at the window especially my first time when I was just gawking at everything on their menu . They have a updated the menu style but the ice cream is as good as always. I got the onion rings which were sweet and salty crispy, the strawberry malt which was so good and creamy, the sundae with butterfinger was perfect!!!! A couple months ago my bf went to Covina Tasty around 7:30, and they were closed. Today, Friday, we decided to check the hours of operation before going, and it says they close at 10. We show up at 8, and again, all the lights were off, and it was closed. What's going on, y'all? If you close earlier, please update the time! If you're on break, please leave a note! This location has been in existence since 1960. However that does not mean it is the SAME business. The new ownership tries to elude to this concept with a sign that says "Since 1960" and another sign in another window that says "since 1984" This place closed down for sometime and then has since reopened. That being said the menu has changed significantly and is largely written in Chinese and half drawn English along with poorly executed numbers for pricing- written in pen. It's gotten much smaller and they've taken away some of the things that made me want to come back again and again. They've removed the malts. That was one of their strongest sellers. you can still get the dipped cones but good luck communicating with the staff. They cannot understand a word. It took us about 15 minutes to order 3 cones dipped. It should've been 4 cones. But that was the best outcome I'd hoped for since they did not understand a word I said. The customers that ordered after us also had considerable difficulty placing orders. For what I've seen this place become, I will not return. The things I used to come here for are gone. A real staple in the community. Great soft serve ice cream for a great price. They've updated their menu a bit. Outside seating and plenty of parking. I love getting a cone and just sitting down and watching traffic while I enjoy it. Be careful in the summer months though because the mosquitoes are very active that you may not want to be there too long. They load the hotdog with what they called chili. It was more like a mound of beans. Also the bottom layer is soggy, so good luck trying to pick it up to eat. The chicken sandwich is so sad a pathetic looking, it looked like grade school cafeteria burger. The "chicken" is breaded, but not fried. So it's mushy. It's like a chicken patty warmed in microwave, then added to this sandwich. They also put mustard into the sandwich as a standard. Never even mentioned it. I hate mustard. Especially the cheap fast food yellow kind. I'm reluctant to give them lower than 3 stars. Their fries are tasty. They open late. It doesn't feel unsafe. I have tried Covina Tasty before at a previous Yelp event and thought there were okay but my husband was in the mood for some ice cream, so we decided to check them out since they have dog friendly seating (so we brought our little girl with us). There is some seating inside too in case you don't wish to dine al fresco. We ended up ordering: Thai Almond Milk Tea, $3.39 prior to tax- This is a Thai Ice Tea drink made with almond milk. I requested for this drink to be made with less ice and less sugar. I wasn't a fan of this drink because of the almond milk after taste. Perhaps I should have ordered the regular Thai milk tea drink (same price). Medium Vanilla Cone, $1.99 prior to tax- Very cheap and a great size for my husband and our little girl dog to share. --------------------- (Total= $6.15 after tax) After my husband ordered, his ice cream was ready.
