Found this store on a whim. I had 30 minutes to spare before a hair appointment down the street. I honestly wasn't expecting to find anything because the store seemed small. I told myself I'd be happy if I found just one good thing. I ended up walking out with 3 shopping bags full of items. The store had great prices and everything was 50% off since it was Saturday. The ladies working that day were also super sweet and friendly. It was a great find! Definitely want to come back soon. read more

Super RUDE customer service I can't believe the associates or managers have the audacity to speak to their customers the way my mother and I were spoken to. When we arrived I guess it was close to closing time ; we didn't know. We didn't check their hours and it was our first time here. While we were browsing the store one of the associates says to us something along the lines of "it's 4:15 we closed at 4 you need to leave like now." If when we arrived and it was close to closing time it is their responsibility to let customers know upon entering that they will be closing soon so that this could be avoided in the future :) You should treat everybody with RESPECT and KINDNESS. read more

They have a dollar rack outside with some GREAT finds. Most of my purchase was from that rack. The women that work here are super friendly and keep everything super well organized. The day I went, they opened around 11:50 instead of 10 since of the exterminators they had the day before sprayed something inside since they had a cockroach infestation. So, I and a few other people waited around for them to opened the store. There were some others who came but left once they noticed it was still closed. They have a rack of clothing for a $1. They also have a sale for buy one clothing get one free. They do have a large selection for both men and women and for kids too. They sort by size which is a nice thing. The home decorations was pretty good too. I chose some pieces of clothing but they didn't fit me well. But I did get around 4 packs of hangers for $1 each, so I got around 50 hangers for $4. I'm glad I found an oil diffuser for $1.50 that was in great condition here since I've been looking for one in thrift stores I've been going to. The store is closed on Wed and Sun. To use a card, it needs to be over $25. The owner, I think the asian lady, was pretty nice. read more

Wowee!! I scored a really cute 80's dress and one of those knit scarf-thingies for 4.00. I'm so excited! This place is organized and the help is very kind and helpful. The prices, especially on the "sale" tags is really good. All shirts, even blouses were 3.00, and 2 colors were 1/2 off. Pretty good. Came here yesterday and was actually surprised that this place was a bit bigger than what I had expected. From the previous yelper (who gave a pretty good thorough review by the way), there are clothes here for women, children and men, knick knacks, kitchen items, books, movies, shoes and accessories, etc. Pricing is very affordable as well. The current sale is blue tag items are 50% off (except formal wear), purchase 1 clear tag item get 2 clear tag items for free and I think the red tag items are buy one get one free. A lot of the items (clothing that I saw) seemed to be in very good condition. There are a handful of wedding dresses and prom style dresses here. There is a nice big section of fashionable belts here and some jewelry in the display case in the front of the store. The employees working here are very friendly and nice. The first employee I saw was this woman at the front of the store, behind the display case. She told me what was part of their weekly sales and helped me with what I was specifically looking for. She was so friendly and also told me that I could negotiate the pricing for some of the items I looked at because she thought I could use a bigger discount, very nice of her. There is a changing room in the very back in case you want to try on something, but they do not allow for you to try on accessories in the changing room, probably to ensure that no one steals from them. As for parking is concern, there is some out on the street and also in the back of the store. Overall, would totally come back here to check out their deals and new items. read more

The assistance league is a non-profit organization who aims at helping underprivileged children, primarily those who cannot afford to buy their uniform clothes for school. On the corner of San Bernardino Road and Propspero street is their Thrift Shop. I worked there this summer, so i hope my review isn't biased or gives you the wrong perception of the store! Types of Items sold: Clothing: The store sells clothing for all ages and for both men and women. This includes shoes, accessories (such as hats, belts, suspenders), jewelry (watches too), 2-3 pc. men's suits, and childrens' clothing for all occasions, including infants and toddlers. They don't really have a lot of "vintage" clothes, but they do have a lot of current brands. The even have a section of Designer clothes that has brands like Guess, Juicy Couture, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, the list goes on. Kitchenware: Many "like-new" appliances, cups, mugs, silverware, pots, pans, kitchen utensils, etc. When i moved into my apartment I think I spent about $30 for 4 pots/pans, 5 kitchen utensils, and a few cups/mugs. This was a great place to stock up, and not have to pay a fortune like i would have, at Target or something, especially when I'm on a college student's budget. Linens/Home-decor/Bedding: They have a relatively small section of these items here, but there is still a lot to look at. It all depends on the day you come in. They carry items in most bed sizes. Lots of times they have full bed sets or they'll have pieces of sets that you can put together. They always have a lot of decorative pillows, towels, and decorative items for the bathroom and house. Books/Magazines: HUGE Selection. They get lots of books donated, and they have an entire room that houses their books, magazines, and electronics. They have books for all ages. Wide variety of movies both on VHS and DVD. They have a small craft area that has some different projects to do. Accessories: Lots of Purses and jewelry. not too much to be said about them. Some things that I think that set this thrift shop apart from other ones are: The caliber of the donations that are sold at the store: Many of the items in the store once belonged to the current members of Assistance League. Many of the members are somewhat "well-off" financially, so their donations often reflect their lifestyle. I've found REAL Coach, Dooney & Burke, and other name brand items in the donations. At many other thrift shops, the employees will snag those items and keep them for themselves, but this thrift shop has a policy that if an employee is interested in an item, they must allow it to be put out in the store for a whole day to allow the customer to have the first dibs on it. Trust me, I've seen a lot of stuff that I really wanted as an employee, purchased by a customer, which is great, since it shows that the shop really wants the customers to have the best selection. Pricing: The store has very reasonably priced items. Each item is assessed based on its condition and how much it normally retails for. Most clothing items are between $1-10 depending on what it is. THERE IS ALWAYS A SALE. It's usually buy one get one free on clothing items, since they are always getting tons of donations. Pricing is also usually negotiable, and many times if you are buying a lot of items, they will cut you a small deal. Since ALL THE PROCEEDS GO TO THE CHILDREN, its really not a big deal if they don't budge on prices. Your money is going to a good cause. Workers: Something that I usually don't like at Thrift Shops are the type of people who work there. Many of the other shops I've been to have employees who don't speak very good English, or who are just plain weird. At this shop, the members of Assistance League volunteer in the shop. This means that they speak perfect English (There is always a worker there who can speak Spanish) and they are kind and attentive. All the proceeds go towards the organization: Enough said. The only reason that I'm giving this place 4/5 is because sometimes it has its off-days when i can't find anything i like. However, They are constantly putting new items out so the inventory changes daily! read more

Although I've lived in Covina for near 30 years, I hadn't stepped into the AL Thrift Shop until today. I had been looking for a table lamp for the nightstand, so while running a bunch or errands I stopped at several places including Target, Ross, Salvation Army and an antique shop down the street. As a point of comparison, the retail stores lamps were in the $30 - $40 range, the antique shop's least expensive lamp was $35 and the Salvation Army had lamps that were in various states of disrepair for about $20. The AL Thrift Shop had a few lamps that all looked to be clean and in working order. I picked up a nice looking baby blue colored ceramic lamp with clean shade for $6 with my senior discount (good on Mondays ;-). The staff working there are volunteers and as another poster shared, they do this to support the charity work. They were very helpful. The store is well organized, clean and the items look to be in pretty good shape. This will be a place I'll check out more often and I'd recommend it to the Yelp community. Even though it is on the corner, it is easy to miss so just be aware of that. read more

Came here for the first time and found a really cute outfit for SUCH a great price! You have to sort through the items to find things you like, just like any thrift second hand store. They also have great kitchen and book sections! The Assistance League of Covina Valley is an amazing charity organization, so it felt great knowing that 100% of the money I was paying for these items was going to helping children in need in our area. Shopping with a purpose! And the ladies in the store are super nice. Definitely coming back! read more
