Just our experience and it was an awful one after years of patronage. We called the restaurant at 7:37pm and asked if there was availability for seating in the restaurant, the bubbly and nice person that answered the phone said "we don't take same day reservations but our waitlist is currently at zero and come on over" being responsible diners we hopped in our $40 Uber and 10 minutes later we arrived. We arrived to an unwelcoming hostess at the podium with exaggerated eye-makeup and a god awful attitude. Upon reaching her smuggish self she said "we are not taking any more wait lists for tonight, we have a two hour wait and we do not have any tables", I then asked her if there was a manager and I was for sure her token call out of the evening as she replies "your speaking with her as she pointed to herself". Being we had no car and our Uber was gone we proceeded up to the bar to weigh our options... upon reaching the bar flustered... a very nice waitress asked if we needed anything and we explained the awkward interaction, she kindly got "Jacob" the "manager". Jacob all of a sudden had a "very nice table for two, outside, and... it was ready... imagine that! Jacob asked us to follow him, he sat us, promised a smooth experience and even suggested some menu items. We explained to him we were in town for a conference, have previously dined there and rented a restaurant out last night to host clients, we also mentioned we are in the restaurant business. He kept coming over to check up on us to the point that it was annoying and interfering with our dining experience, he claimed he "took notes for staff meetings", he didn't know the restaurant that we rented last evening which was weird because it's in the same market (Calissa, which is five star Mediterranean dining) and then brought over a $50 tab from the bar, asking me to close out as I was just beginning to settle in and enjoy appetizers. We settled that check and from that point forward we felt there was a very phony, we are trying to please you... take your money and ship you out attitude. By the time we got our steak we were rushed, asked what else we needed at least 5 times in 15 minutes and Jacob came over to tell us he was leaving for the night, he asked "is there anything I can do" we said no and our bill got dropped on the table... not an "I'm sorry, coffee is on us or anything" the experience was sub par, awkward and not what it used to be... save your money, time and go enjoy a restaurant that respects and welcomes you... this isn't it! Btw... all tables and booths inside by the bar were EMPTY, there were empty tables outside and we are not some schlumps you wouldn't want at your restaurant. Very odd!!! We spent $250 (food and beverage cost) and would have been happy to spend double for a good experience and not rushed! read more

I have not been here since pre Covid but I must say this place is still amazing. The food is delicious, the presentation amazing and great service (our server was Sam). I enjoyed the scallops with risotto and ate every last bite. The rest of our party enjoyed the chicken, the NY Strip steak and the swordfish special. By 6:00pm EST the sun was so strong that we were burning, with no place to turn. The party next to us was experiencing the same dilemma. All members of our respective groups were playing the equivalent of musical chairs to avoid the sun. First off: great look. The restaurant itself is placed on a scenic outlook overviewing a nice waterway. The food was delicious when I went over this past summer - we got multiple appetizers, and all of them were wonderful (except the corn bread which nearly all of us found average.) The entrees we're delectable and creative enough to bring me back next summer. The service brought me no complaints but it also wasn't anything to write home about. It's a simple equation: fresh, well-prepared seafood + sunshine + alcohol + friends = happy. CowFish might cost a little bit more than you'd like, but fresh, well-prepared seafood + sunshine + alcohol + friends - $$$ still = happy. And I don't know how many times I have to tell you this, but this is the Hamptons. It's not going to be cheap. If you can get your head out of your ass and move past the slightly inflated prices, you'd probably realize that life doesn't get much better than eating gorgeous, delicious food on CowFish's sunny deck, with a view of the water. They have a limited number of brunch items, but I've personally never felt limited by the deliciousness of the Rockefeller Benedict. Or the soft-shell crab BLT they had on special. Or the shrimp and grits. Or the steak and eggs. Wash any of those down with a bloody mary, and tell me you're having a bad day. I'll call you a liar and then never talk to you again, because your priorities are screwed up. The rest of you though, let's go back and have some early evening cocktails and a burger. read more

Nice place! Unfortunately when we came it was raining out. But we had a reservation and were seated early, which was nice. The wait staff was ok. The steak was good but they didn't have any A-1. The potato had a lot of fixings on it, but could have used some salt. We didn't have any on our table. It reminded me more of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant. The most interaction we had with anyone was the valet in the parking lot. They were really friendly and kind. A great spot for some drinks and food when in the Hamptons Bay area. My friends and I started at Rumba which was across the water from CowFish. The great part about being across the water from Cowfish is that it gives you a reason to ride the free boat to Cowfish from Rumba. With it coming every 20 minutes or so, it was great to just hop on after some quick drinks at Rumba to Cowfish for the main course. After the quick ride across the water, I exited to a full view of lights, grass, comfy chairs and big bar at its outdoor area. Really beautiful. The restaurant itself is quite huge with 2 floors. We made reservations in advance thankfully because it was packed on a Saturday night. I started with the Cowfish mule, which was as good as a regular Moscow mule. Very refreshing. As for food, we started with some appetizers including spinach artichoke dip, lobster stuffed mushroom and buffalo shrimp. Everything was really flavorful and easy to share. I particularly loved the lobster stuffed mushroom as the mushroom was soft yet chewy coupled with that delicious butteryness from the lobster. As for main entrees, I split with my boyfriend the special of the night which was salmon topped with crabmeat with a side of faro and corn and the cumin encrusted mahi. The salmon was my favorite dish. The fish was cooked perfectly, soft and flakey coupled with a good taste of crab on top. The sides were particularly good. The corn was so fresh and faro paired well with the salmon. As for the cumin encrusted mahi, the crisp breading added a great crunchy texture. The star was the cumin. The mahi by itself I actually found to be a bit bland but when paired with this cumin sauce, it was splendid. Underneath the fish was some corn and Spanish rice, also very good and filling with the fish. Just when we thought we had enough, we saw a table get a massive loaded potato and we couldn't resist and order one as well. It was big, filled with the usual cheese, bacon, sour cream and chopped scallions. A great fat indulgence. Overall, a great meal with great friends. Let me start this off by restating the known: it's an incredibly challenging time to be in the hospitality industry and I commend restaurants and restaurant workers on being out there and bringing some normalcy into people's lives. That being said, I had the worst dining experience in a really like time last night at Cowfish. Here's how the night progressed: 1. Two weeks ago I made a 7:45pm reservation for outside seating at Cowfish 2. Last night, we check in to our 7:45pm reservation, and they attempt to seat us inside where there were a lot of people. We asked for outside and Lily (the host) said it would be an hour wait for outside seating. We wouldn't have come to sit inside so we decide to wait. 3. We decided to wait for our table by the bar and in order to do that, you have to place your drink order, along with an appetizer (for legal reasons) with the bar host. The bar host tells us we can't sit at any bar tables without being seated by the hostess. 4. We go back to the host stand after placing our drink order and ask for a bar table, they told us it would be a wait but happy to put our name on a list. They put our name on the waitlist for a bar table. We are on two waitlists now and not sure what to do with our bodies. 5. We ask the bar host if the open couch was up for grabs. She says yes! Amazing, so excited. We sit down after an hour and are ready to chill. Our waitress Megan comes over (she's amazingly sweet) and asks if we want to order any food; we can just stay there and have dinner without having to move again. Great, we are going to order when she comes back. 6. Megan comes back and says we actually can't sit here because there was a big party coming but we can move to the table next to us. Okay...fine we agree. 7. Right as we are about to move we get approached by the hostess Lily (rude) and manager (Robert - so so so rude, literally the WOAT) and we are told there was a miscommunication and that we actually can't sit at any of the tables, we actually just have to stand on the grass holding our food and drinks looking like idiots with our masks while we wait for another hour for a table we made a reservation for two hours earlier. 8. They seat 8 people on the couches that were walk-ins and never had a reservation. 9. Robert continues to be rude and condescending while he moves us off the grass. 10. We left. 11. Had terrible dreams about how much Robert and Lily sucked. When you're going out for dinner in COVID, there are some things you understand: -your service probably won't be as great as it was before because things are more challenging now -you have to be more flexible with everything and everyone because people are on edge -you take on risk every time you leave your home so it's stressful for everyone involved. We were going on a date, really wanted to make this a special night out, especially because we so loved this restaurant and rave about it to everyone. I would never ever go to a restaurant where I couldn't sit outside. I wouldn't have made a reservation for outside seating if I couldn't sit outside. When the inside of a restaurant is packed and you have a customer that makes a reservation two hours earlier but you seat 8 walk-ins before then...it sucks. Never going back. Don't do it. read more

We just went to Cowfish for the first time and we will most certainly be going back! From the moment we got there the general manager , Catalina, was extremely warm and welcoming. She came to check in with us during the meal as well! The seafood we ordered was delicious and we were very pleased with the other dishes as well. We were a very large group (10 people) on the night before Memorial Day. I called the day before and they told me they didn't accept reservations and that only walk ins would have been welcome. Understandably - it was very busy and we were told there would have been a 1 hour and 45 minute wait. We decided to stick to this place because of the stunning location and got a table after an hour and a half we were there. Definitely recommended for large groups, but also couples looking for a cute romantic spot where to hang. The owner owns another bar on the lagoon and there is a BARGE! Yes, a barge! Surrounded by water and the docks, this picturesque restaurant has some of the nicest scenery for an outdoor dining experience in the Hamptons. While the food was good, it was not something I travel from the city to the tip of Long Island for. Their best items for lunch that we tried was the Fried Soft Shell Crab BLT and the Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich. Service was friendly but not attentive at times. Not a huge problem, just made asking for water or the check feel like more work than necessary. In the end, you are here for that great breeze in your hair and that sun kissed feeling on your skin, while drinking something refreshing and eating some seafood. Visited Cowfish Restaurant for dinner on Thursday evening. A lovely experienced soured by lousy food. Quality: I enjoyed every element of Cowfish Restaurant except the food. The service, the space, and the views were wonderful, but if you are coming for food, prepare to be disappointed. Our meal started with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, which were the best dish we had. With a ponzu dijon glazed and served with caramelized onions, it is flavorful and worth ordering. The main courses however were a disaster. I started with the Jumbo Diver Scallops. The scallops themselves were unremarkable, but fine. However, the decision to serve them with a corn risotto was a huge mistake. It was a glob of flavorless mush, which unfortunately impacted each bite of scallop. Our other main was the Center Cut Filet, which we could realize was a problem as soon as it arrived. It was too large and oddly shaped to be cooked right. It went from so dried out well-done to completely rare in the center. And the outside was way too charred. I looked forward more to my in-between bites of Cabernet Mushrooms than the steak, which is never a good sign. And our experience with the food, seemed to make some sense of why so many people opted to get chips and guac, presumably harder to mess up. Quantity: Fair portion sizes that seemed in line for prices at a more upscale establishment. Value: $12 for Crispy Brussels Sprouts. $32 for Jumbo Diver Scallops. $58 for Center Cut Filet with Cabernet Mushrooms. Ambiance: Cowfish Restaurant is a more upscale seafood and steakhouse restaurant located in Hampton Bays. While you may be hesitant entering the parking lot, what you find at the end is an immaculate space. From the green lawn with massive shady tree and playground to the charming house that holds the indoor dining to the lively bar located behind the property, it all flows together perfectly. And the reason why is the water views from every angle. It is not surprisingly it is a popular space for large events, but it also works great for romantic dinners. Crowd: Extremely busy. One of the very few places I have been in recent months, where COVID has not seemed to impact business. Each area had nearly every chair filled, so reservations are an absolute must, as they have definitely removed some seating. Service: The service was absolutely impeccable. Both the hostess and our waitress were wonderful, as were all the other staff members who made sure we were taken care of. They have also instituted clear safety guidelines in response to COVID and it was very apparent they were taking things seriously. Parking: After navigating several other restaurant parking lots, they have an attendant to ensure you find a space. read more

It was a wonderful and unexpectedly delicious and fun experience. From the awesome pirate ship outside to the plethora of wikisticks that were bestowed on them, our kids had a great time and we all enjoyed a delicious meal and nonalcoholic drinks (yay, thank you for including some tasty drinks for us too!). The service was wonderful, and the hosts were particularly kind to our kids. We lucked out and happened to get a last minute, perfectly situated table - but it looked unlikely and was jam packed, so plan ahead if you want to enjoy this hot spot. The view here is awesome too, so maybe try for a reservation a little before sunset to enjoy the full scope of the gardens, waterfront and sunset. read more

We went to dine in here after nearly 5 months of staying home due to covid. This place is large and has a beautiful ambience for a casual restaurant. All staff are wearing masks :) We ordered jumbo shrimp in buffalo sauce for appetizer. We were served only 3 pieces but the sauce was top notch. Apparently they use an in-house mix of buffalo and barbecue sauce. For people planning to order this dish but want a bigger portion - quick tip to order fried shrimp from the little fish section. You can let the waiter know which sauce you would like and voila you get a value for money dish. For our main course we ordered Nola shrimp and it was out of the world! I would go back all the way to eat just this! The reduction sauce is just so perfect and the bread was fresh and amazingly yummy! We also ordered a side of pineapple coconut fried rice which was just ok. We let our waiter know and guess what - we got a side of Spanish rice as a replacement from the chef. After that the chef Roberto himself came to talk to us to find out what went wrong. He is extremely humble and full of information. Loved this meeting and their hospitality. Extremely charming dockside American restaurant. No reservations for parties under 10, so the wait can be pretty long especially on weekend nights, but there's live music an a really great outdoor bar with plenty of space around to hang, drink, play games and mingle. After a day of partying and Hampton-hopping I came here with a friend for dinner to round off our day trip to Eastern Long Island. Highly recommend the Lobster Roll, it was DELICIOUS - lobster salad made with creme fraich instead of mayonnaise which made it lighter and airy but absolutely not light on knuckle and claw meat - my lobster roll had 3 claws in it! 10/10 would eat here again. Pro-tip: be prepared to pay significant dollarage because this place ain't cheap. Seems like it would be a great place for that third or fourth date or an anniversary dinner.
