I have used Yelp for many years, and I am compelled to write my first review to warn all potential Internet customers to STAY AWAY FROM COX! Even AT&T Uverse (which isn't the greatest technology-wise) is miles ahead of Cox in terms of service and competency. My experience started with an installation appointment. Easy enough you think? Think again. They completely missed the Saturday morning appointment, and didn't even bother to call. I called them to explain the situation, and the representative acted arrogant and didn't even bother to apologize or give an explanation, as if this is something that was expected to happen. Anyway, I let it go, and after some convincing I got them to reschedule my appointment to the afternoon. They ended up ALSO missed this rescheduled appointment, and again, they didn't bother to call. I had to call them instead, and this time they gave an excuse that they tried to call, but since no one picked up, they didn't bother coming to the house! It turned out they called the wrong number, so I made it clear to them to call the correct number (my cell). I then had the appointment moved to Sunday. Sunday comes along, and the technician finally shows up at my house. Guess what? He didn't have any equipment with him! I cannot comprehend why. What were you going to do at my house, have tea and chat? He ends up driving back to the store to pick up the modem and tries to install it. My previous set up was disassembled, and he set up the new Cox modem in my control panel, it was then that I discovered that the modem didn't have WiFi support; it's just a basic modem with single port, and I would only be able to get Internet if I sat in my closet (where the control panel was located) and plugged my laptop directly into the modem. Completely unacceptable. There were a whole host of other issues, like NO ONE from Cox knowing what modem model I was supposed to be given, or whether I was supposed to be able to buy it even though their Web site clearly advertised this, and I even have an order confirmation with the details to prove it. The technician ended up leaving without fixing the problems because he had another appointment. I ended up having to call Cox again to schedule a follow up appointment, and discovered that the only other time that worked for a follow up appointment was the next Saturday, SIX days later. I was finally told after demanding to talk to the manager that the modem that the technician left at my house was the wrong model, and didn't even support the speeds that I ordered. He said he would take care of things. Ok fine, I'll give it one last shot. Next Saturday comes around, and guess what? NO SHOW. What a surprise. Not even a call. I called them again, and guess what? They said they tried calling me, but no one answered, so the technician didn't bother to come. WOW, AGAIN. Not only that, they were still calling the WRONG NUMBER. The incompetency. So, for the FORTH time, I rescheduled to later in the afternoon. Guess what? Just guess. Yup. NO SHOW AGAIN. I'm crying my eyes out with disbelief. I call them and guess what they said? Well, they didn't have an excuse. None. My call then got disconnected, and when I called back the service hours JUST ended in my time zone so I couldn't talk to a representative. I end up going online to chat with a service rep. She said that she sees that there is note saying that the technician was on the way, but that she was confused. It's not confusing really, even I know what had happened - the service hours for the day were done, and the technician decided to end the day without servicing my house, and didn't bother notifying me trough any means. She had no excuse to provide that wouldn't put her own company Cox to shame. So the day ended with another 5 hours gone waiting around for nothing. I had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow from 3-5pm. Let's see what happens. I will be calling Cox every 15 minutes starting 3pm to make sure someone shows up. In the mean time, there is one thing that Cox HAS managed to do - send me a bill even before completing their initial installation! Can you believe it? Well, there are a couple of other things they have done: - Disrupted my previous service. - Failed to provide the correct modem. - Failed to provide any wireless capabilities (e.g. gateway or wireless router), which was clearly stated as included. - Wasted 10 hours of my time over 2 weekends. - Promised to give a discount on my bill twice, which is not yet reflected in my account. - Flooded my e-mail with false appointment confirmations from do_not_reply_prod@cox.com - Displayed blatant disregard for any kind of curtesy, competency, or customer service. Great job Cox, if you're in the business of losing customers, you win gold. I conclude by making my first recommendation on Yelp after using it for almost a decade: take your valuable time and dollars elsewhere... anywhere but Cox. read more

WARNING! While using my computer early on 3/10 I was alerted to a new email from Cox. The email informed me that the credit card (CC) number provided for payment on my auto pay account designation was rejected and informed me to check the card number provided. This caused me some concern since there had never been a problem with the auto payment process before. I immediately accessed my online Cox account and reviewed the number. Not being sure of what card account the number was related to, I reviewed my cards and realized it was associated with a CC that was reissued with the new chip (and new number) a few days before I had left on a two week vacation arriving home on 2/26 (two weeks ago from 3/10). I fully accept the fact that it was my responsibility to review any accounts associated with this CC and to change the card number to the new card number assigned with the new chip card. My resolution on this same day 3/10 when my payment was 'due' was to delete the old number and enter the new number, culminating in my then paying the 'due' billing, all on the day it was 'due'. I received and printed the page that informed me my payment was accepted on that day of 3/10. On 3/18 I received a notice in the mail that I was overdue on my billing of $83.63 and that with the 'Returned payment fee' charge of $25 (30% of my billing) I now owed $108.63! I immediately accessed my account and found that my payment had been recorded as 'Accepted' on 3/10 (Day 'due') but that there remained an 'unbilled' balance of $25. I called Cox and spoke with 'Anna' who listened to my explanation of what occurred but was confused. So I asked her if my bill was due on 3/10 at 12:01am, or 6:15am, or 4:25pm or sometime on 3/10 when I paid it? Anna was confused. I then told her if I didn't have auto payment set up and walked into the Cox payment center and paid my bill 5 minutes before the doors were locked...it would be paid on the day I paid it and that would include 3/10. But if Cox decides to auto pay at 12:01am on 3/10 than that is when Cox deems the bill due...not on 3/10 but actually when they decide to run the auto payment. She was confused. I told her that the time between when Cox ran the payment automatically and the day of 3/10 was exhausted, may have been the time that I realized or thought of the payment being due, and actually paid the bill, which is exactly what I did on the day of 3/10 the 'DAY' the bill was 'due', Anna was silent. I then asked her point blank, is it Cox's policy to call the bill due, when they decide it is, and if not paid at the time they decide it is due, to charge the client what amounts to a 30% penalty for the few cents in electricity it cost them to run the charge that was failed to be paid at they time they said it was due? Anna's reply; "Yes". At least Anna had become part of the conversation. I said; "Thank You" and hung up. At least Cox now incurred the debt of paying Anna. Delete review read more

So I just moved to an area where cox is my only choice for cable tv and I have to say I am NOT impressed. I have had my cable hooked up for a week now, or should I say I've been paying for it for a week now. It all started when I called to order the service and I asked for the HD cable box, and they ship it to you to avoid paying for someone else to come out and plug it in. Well they sent me a cable box with no HDMI outlet which is the only way I can hook mine up here because the HDMI jack is built into cabinet that holds the box then comes through to the back side of the tv. So I had to wait another 2 days to get the right box. Finally I got the right box and have still been having nothing but problems. Whoever sold me my cable signed me up for the wrong package and so I wasn't getting the right channels. Then they finally sent someone out to turn on the rest of the channels I was supposed to be getting and I was so excited to finally be able to watch my new HDTV! Wrong. The HD channels were still not coming in. So again I am on the phone with them trying to figure out why. After talking with someone for awhile who can't figure out why I get hung up on. The same thing happened last week when I was calling for a different problem. So again I call back and this time the guy does something and all my channels are working properly. Finally I think I have every issue resolved and I can finally begin to enjoy this over priced service. So today I turn my tv on and I cant watch more than 5 seconds of tv at a time without it freezing on me. It's literally frozen as much as it's working. So I call again and there's some automated thing that resets your box if it's freezing so apperantly this is a common problem. I have literally had to be on the phone with these people every single day since I have had service so far with the exception of Sunday. So the box reset itself and now I have no channels at all! I called back AGAIN and this guy said now it's a different problem and the signal is not getting to my box so they have to send a technician out but not until Sat which is 3 days from now! I seriously can't believe this at all!!! Are they for real? How are they even in business? So it's going to be 2 weeks from the time that it was supposed to be set up before it actually is working, and that's if it works when the technician comes out. All I know is I had Time Warner for the last 3 years and never had any problems at all. If I could get time warner here I would switch in a heartbeat!!! Cox sucks. I already have an account so I have been screeeewed for years now but I decided I wanted to add a DVR service. The first thing they want from you is your account number so giving them that already sets me up for defeat because they are going to want twice as much as what is on their advertising on the internet. I guess they think that since they have gotten away with screwing you all these years, they can go deeper and harder. Instead of the $9.99 listed on the website, it is actually $21.00 for the service, so I decided to call back without giving them my account number and it went down to $17.98, then I called back again and got a different rep and he would not give me a straight answer, he wanted my account number up front and said when I asked him for the cost, "IT DEPENDS." I asked what it depends on and he said, "YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER." Then I protested with the ill logic of his response and he realized he goofed and said he would transfer me to another number where they could help me. Before I could say another word, I got transferred to the billing department. But I told the guy I didn't have an account. So likely he could see that my number was associated with a previous call on that number where I finally admitted I had an account. They must keep track of these things so they can lay in the ROYAL SCREW JOB. The final call, I called on a Majic Jack number which they don't have in their system and the guy (sales rep) I talked to didn't give me a straight answer either. He kept going on about packages and so now that I think about it, I never did get an exact amount from him either. He just kept recommending packages to me then when I finally said thank you, enough, he wanted to sell me phone service and in case I forget, he tried to sell me on internet too during the conversation. It's pathetic isn't it. You would think that Cox with all the money it makes, it would have at least one little ounce of moral fiber in its being but greed is all I see. Now that I think about it do you ever see them do any community events where they actually help the community it serves. I have never seen that ever that I can think of. If there was another choice, I would be on it because I am so tired of being relentlessly screwed by Cox. When will these guys ever be investigated for fraud, false advertising, illegal trade practices, bait and switch, and profiling. When? Will some of you class action lawsuit lawyers get on to this. O M G One mistake after another until I finally changed over to A T T. Hours upon hours on the phone mostly with A Holes, but a few people that were kind and empathetic. A couple of days ago I spoke to a LOYALTY EXPERT, she told me how sorry COX was that they blew it with me after 8 years and how they would love to have me back. Told me to take my Contour Box to the closest Cox Solution Store, the one in Hillcrest, San Diego on University Ave.( AKA Cox Nightmare Store ) she told me that Cox would owe me like $38.00. I told her that I wanted copies of the last 18 Cox Statements for my review and they would not come up on the Web Site to print as PDF, or ant other format. I asked to have them mailed to me and I was told to ask for them at the Cox Nightmare Store and they would be provided to me at no cost. Well... First I spoke to a nice young man who seemed helpful but, he was soon dominated and pushed aside by CARLEE. This young lady ( Carlee and I use that term loosely ) forcefully told me that my bill was $48.00 ( Late she jacked it up to $68.00 in Email to me ? ) Carlee told me that the people from the Loyalty Dept. did not know what they were talking about and that they were idiots, she would decided what I was going to pay for my final bill and that was final. She would be more than happy to print me my last 18 statements at 4 pages per each statement x 18 at $5.00 for each page equaling $360.00 and then smiled the devil,s smile like she was greeting me into Hell !!! I called COX on my 10 min break and they told me that Carlee was drunk on power, and they would handle her. This Carlee really got her jollies of treating this way and then adding another $20.00 to my bill like she wanted pay back for some injustice that had been done to at some point in her life. Wow I am just a consumer wanting decent service for my wife and I and our family. I am lucky enough to be married to my best friend and have a happy and fulfilling life, seeing bitter hateful people taking pleasure in trying to screw over whoever they can sickens me. 0 stars or any portion of 1 star. Poor service over and over and over again. This is the worst company with whom I have ever dealt. It's bad enough that their tech support reps don't know what they're talking about, but then you have to put up with these idiots refusing to transfer you to a supervisor or level 2 Tech support or asking one to do something that is impossible (like taking the battery out of a modem in which there is no way to take out a battery) then questioning you like you have the same low IQ as they do as to whether or not you're sure there's no battery. Only a fool will query, "Are you sure there's no battery that you can take out?' Because of the history of problems related to this account (i.e. cox services, television and computer), i.e. internet and TV not working, I was told to have the rep., check the account because there he/she will see the history of service calls and fixes attempted. Then ask for a supervisor or tier 2 tech support. What does one do when the rep refuses to do what one has asked? I don't understand why Cox has a monopoly on the internet and providing TV/internet services in the city of San Diego. It is clear that more people than not agree that this company doesn't provide service; nothing even resembling that. This, Cox, is a BAD, ineffective, poorly run, mess. How did Cox even get a Monopoly in San Diego. If the company had some competition, I can assure you that it (Cox) would provide much improved service. What is wrong with the people who run this company? Do they have to fall in line and provide poor service on a regular basis? Maybe the company could pay its employees a living wage, train their staff to use common sense and be consistent and hire some "qualified" people who would be able to process what customers are saying/asking; who might be able to think, and make deductions - use those higher order thinking skills. I have heard (from Cox) that the Cox contour was built with defective hard drives, instead of replacing the hard drives they have been working on a new system they could come out with to take care of the problem. The new and improved non-contour like device that is due to be launched within a month. So they rented me defective equipment that they had me reboot sometimes 3 times a day and charged me to maintain the defective equipment that did not do what it was advertised to do. I saved programs to watch, come to find out that the Hard Drive is hit and miss. Freezes up after 10 or 15 minutes of play then I reboot and it freezes up in the same spot when I try again and have to delete the program. They wonder why they lose business to android, apple, and other carriers. Went to Cox office today and the clerk acted like he has never heard of Customer Recovery, It was my fault that his equipment doesn't work. I know that they see a lot of angry people every day but the guy made no effort to accept the fact that it doesn't work (he said that I had not called and complained enough) He decide that because I didn't call it must be my fault it doesn't work. After asking for a manager (who wasn't much better) I traded in my equipment and downgraded to Atlantic Scientific equipment, took it home and am now missing the HD channels I pay for. Called the help line and they rebooted it a couple of times and said they will call me back tomorrow to see if they have it figured out by then. And they say they are saving us money by bundling. My suggestion is get the cheap stuff and wait until the good equipment comes out. Until then call or email every problem to them so they can't ignore the facts anymore. Also when the start throwing the bundling works around tell them you want numbers not words, throws them for a loop when they are pinned down. THAT IS ZERO STARS NOT EVEN ONE Well I should have listened to my friends and family when I moved here they all said DO NOT GET COX, they have "TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE". I did not listen. I set account up as my husband was deployed, put in his name and had authorized access. But EVERY time I called (after waiting 40 minutes on hold) they were rude and said I could not access it had to be my husband who was deployed. Now everywhere else I have been, we have both been able to access our account to make changes in address or ask questions. So they refuse to help me after sitting on hold for up to an hour. Despite being the wife and authorized user who set the account up. I have lived in 10 cities and called multiple utility companies and never had this issue. What is with the security that a wife can't call in and request a service call?? Are they protecting some national secret for my husband??? So again today the lady is rude and says" there is a note here that the wife keeps trying to access the account". W?!? Is that a crime now?? what!? So I said look I am his wife, he is deployed and if you can't help me I will cancel the entire account. ($180 per month). She says I refuse to lose my job if I help you. What???? Is this a Bank or something I am not aware of??? I said you are going to lose your job if you continue to treat customers like criminals and told her she needs to check their online reviews And how my circle of friends is boycotting them. Well, she continued her rude rant and I told her my husband would call back later today and cancel entire account- guess they really wanted to talk to my husband...idiots. The worst 'customer service' I have ever experieced in my entire life. Thay have turned me into a raving lunatic at times and I'm sure I'm on their 'list' of crazy customers!! They took off my unlimited long distance service in November without my permission and I was charged two months of long service when I noticed it. I called them and told them I had never asked them to take off that service and here it is March 8th and the situation is still not resolved. Not even close. They have actually lied and said things were done when in fact they were not. Out and out LIES!!! They truly are a bunch of morons in their call center who can't resolve a problem if their life depended on it. (I called them a bunch of monkeys but then appologized as I'm sure the monkeys would do a much better job. ) Their 'supervisors' are worthless with absolutely no authority at all. I asked one why the rep had transferred me to her if she couldn't do anything and her reply was "I don't know." WTF......what kind of supervisor DOESN'T KNOW????? I finally paid the f*****g bill last night as it's just not worth the frustration anymore, which I'm sure is their 'modus operandi'....wear 'em down until they just roll over and play dead. If you value your sanity, avoid Cox Internet at all costs. This company has redefined incompetence with their astounding ability to combine exorbitant billing with abysmal service. Despite paying premium prices, I have been graced with an internet connection that simply doesn't work. Upon calling to report this issue, I was met with the feeble excuse of a fiber outage that was allegedly being fixed that same day. Here I am, four days later, still without internet. Every day, I've dutifully called their so-called support line, only to be fed the same tired lie that the issue is being resolved and moving "in the right direction." The reality? My internet remains down. Cox blames an outside company for managing the fiber, absolving themselves of any responsibility while their customers suffer from their blatant neglect and mismanagement. This farce occurs like clockwork every monsoon season, making it impossible to get anything done, let alone maintain a remote job. The sheer frustration is compounded by their rude customer service representatives and unhelpful management. They're quick to hound you for payment the moment your bill is due but vanish when it's time to provide the service you're paying for. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere. Cox is a waste of time. I made the mistake of canceling my DirecTV account because they raised their rates by $55/month (yes, $55/month!!) I reviewed a Cox "bundle"online that looked promising (Silver Duo) and I "chatted" online with a Cox representative about this bundle; it, ultimately, was the package I chose. The monthly cost, as shown on the website, was to be $120.98, I verified the cost with my chat person (my bundle was for TV and Internet.) The day after the installation, I checked my account and my monthly cost was $155!!! Of course I called Cox. All EIGHT customer service reps (including "loyalty" reps) had different excuses why that number showed on my account. I finally was able to reach a "supervisor" that told me, "If you had looked at the fine print on the last page of the information you would see that taxes were not included with the price shown online." Really! He said "fine print" and "look at the last page"!! So I'm to believe that there was $35 worth of taxes that were added. My relationship with Cox Communications is soon to be ended. Cox Cable is just like a cult; they take your money but you don't get what you want out of it and if you want other channels, you pay way more. money. I had to purchase a bundle. I don't want a land line but had to purchase land line. They make you buy a bundle; if you don't want a landline, the Cox representative told me that my monthly statement would be $198 if I dropped the phone. Cox keeps charging me for two routers when I only have one. I decided to go into a cox store instead of speaking with a dumb, lazy rep on the phone who reads from a script. I went into the Santee Cox store and talked to (I won't give her name because they'd probably sue me) Sa. She was rude. She told me I should go to You Tube TV after I complained about Cox, their service and how they don't help subscribers. Let's all get smart about our TV options and purchase from other providers. You Tube only charges 45 dollars a month and you can add channels you want to watch, not have to watch. Cox sucks. read more

Avoid this company, do not believe anything they say, and I have BANNED COX from my household including their ridiculous ads about how "powerful' they are (yeah, sure, just like the wizard of oz, lol!) which is one of about 6 companies advertising saying the same thing about their company using the same word "powerful" so even their ads get lost in the clutter. Except Cox is not powerful, it is very weak with poor service, lousy pricing, awful customer service, and total mismanagement. I am surprised Cox Communications is still in business with all the complaints against it. Cox is a joke. the guy who installed our cable flat out lied to us and said told us fake numbers telling us it is cheaper to get a home phone line and not even use it, then to not get a home phone line. Who even uses those anymore?! and now after a year of expensive service, they decide to charge us 70 dollars more a month for absolutely nothing. they were very rude and unhelpful on the phone. Signing a contract with them is like signing with the devil. They will do whatever they want to your price, and then you HAVE to pay it because everyone who works there at the begining of your getting cable and internet are liars just doing whtever they can to rip you off. I WILL NEVER USE COX COMMUNICATIONS AGAIN. They are a horrible horrible company and seeing that everyone else rates them as the lowest possible rating does not surprise me at all. read more

Wow! Could their customer service be any worse?! Okay, I had basic cable, no box, and I got HD channels, the big 3 and fox and other useful stuff, for free. So I upgrade to digital and it's actually a downgrade but costs more! I knew they had an HD package but I thought the basic stuff would still be there! I called to see what was up and waited maybe 10 min. to talk to someone. The lady was a royal B!+(H!!! They have a monopoly on tv programming, like cable companies all across the country, and don't really give a crap about their customers. They know everyone is going to have cable and they're really (Dish & DirectV don't count) your only option. I know Washington has other problems, but damn! they should unlock the monopoly these cable companies have!! read more
