Dear Cox, Something as simple as a name change has stumped about 7 of the people who answered my many calls. 3 told me a supervisor would call me back - NOPE. Nothing else changed only changed to my name from my husbands and you have wasted 3 hours of time on the phone, 15 minutes or more wait time or on hold while they check something for each call. Answering the same question to each person, asking for a supervisor and never NEVER getting to speak to one. I want that job - you get paid to avoid customers. Great gig! Cox restricts our Internet by not allowing us to view certain websites. I've had channels go out and become un viewable for the past 6 months. 5 service calls dozens of over the phone "solutions" they came in last time and took my dvr box and stuck me with some low end piece of junk and still the problem is not resolved. When I called to complain about them taking away my good cable box and giving me a junk one they told me to go to a cox store to have it exchanged. Fuck that. You came here and took it. Cox is the absolute worst!!! I have high(ish) speed internet and cable with a dvr through cox. They increased my bill from $90 to $135 after the first year! It took a 1.5 hour phone call for them to renew my "bundle" to get my rate down to $110. Most recently they did the same thing but raised my bill to $153. After 30 mins on the phone I was told they would reduce my bill to $107 and my most recent statement would reflect that price. Pretty good result considering my previous experiences. When the bill came it was once again $153. I spent 2 HOURS on the phone getting bounced from agent to agent trying to figure out what happened only to finally get connected with a supervisor that told me due to a new company policy I am unable to bundle in my location. My options are I can either pay $153 or kick rocks. Totally unacceptable. Gonna be paying $83 on internet only until I can get something else. We had basic starter cable ...we never had anything more..when cox switched to digital we got a box they said we HAD To have.it was a big box...well not only did we get a bad box....but we got several...they got so hot we could not touch them and each box had to be sent back. 2 went by fedex the rest we drove to the santee ca store to exchange...I kept asking if they had a smaller HD receiver we could get because the big box was always hot..they said no sorry we dont have anything else. Well, I found out after 4 years after a guy named Brian called me because I sent a email to the CEO Pat ESSER (yeah I got his email address) Brian called me and said thats not a HD box thats an advance box....Ill send you out the smaller box and it will cut down your bill..which it did not. Funny thing is,every month I was calling to find out why it said we were paying for advanced on demand even tho when you clicked on those it said you had to pay for it.. Iwas told "no thats not advanced on demand service its just the name on the box" dont worry you have basic starter cable.....every month we were lied too.....so we paid 4 dollars a month for 4 years for service we did not get..and 8 50 a month for 4 years for a box we did not need. When I told Brian and Cox they owed us money back for that,I was laughed at...then we went to court and Brian said....we offered them 285 and we are "relunctantly" willing to give her 300 dollars...and THEN...Brian tried intimidate me in court by GLARING at me. I swear, I will hurt someone, the next time I have to call cox for customer service. Last month they charged me twice because it was the first billing cycle of at the new apartment. I figured that they forgot to shut off the internet from the old place, and I was being billed for both locations. So I call, and I tell the guy on the other end what seems to be the problem, when in fact he tells me that I am wrong, and starts to go on and on about all these charges that I never paid for. I tell him that I am not understanding as he is throwing out all these dates and balances at the speed of light. Again, I tell him that I am not quite understanding and I ask a few questions. By now, I am pissed off, because he is obviously not listening to a word I am saying, and now he is starting to get an attitude. I will not tolerate tude from any one! So half way through one of his sentences I have to hand the phone off to Eric, as I yell that I cannot talk to this ahole because hes being rude. In my 7 years living in San Diego, I have had Cox service. Every time I hear the word Cox Communications, my blood pressure rises and I get a pissed off look on my face. As you can see from the other reviews, there is a good reason for this. Every time I have moved, there's been a billing screw-up. Every time one of my neighbors in an apartment complex moved, my service has been turned off by mistake or some of my services were suddenly missing. (Once I got free cable for a year because they turned mine on when a neighbor moved even though I didn't want it. I don't feel bad at all, I should be reimbursed with how I have been raped by them forever.) They've tried to charge me labor prices for broken equipment that was their fault TWICE. After lots of yelling on the phone I was not charged, but it was a pain in the ass. I've done things like turned on premium programming just to have other channels go missing. Then I'd have to wait for a tech. When I have had to have a tech come, they've always been creepy dirty dudes who try to flirt the entire time they are there. No, your life is never going to turn into a live action porno. Fix my shit and GTFO. If you want to use something like TiVo, they make you pay a bunch of extra fees for a tech to "program it" when I saw no programming going on. It looked like they did exactly what the TiVo website said to do in order to install a cable card. In fact, the tech who came seemed totally clueless about how to even use a TiVo and was looking at it like he had never seen one before. At one point he had to call TiVo customer support. You should hope you never need a new modem because that has always been a complete nightmare activating. Cable goes all pixelated and jiggly and cut up pretty much once or twice and hour, usually ruining whatever you are watching. Random outages are very common. And wow, the tech support employees just blow my frigging mind. I have no idea where they find these people. In the gutter? One I spoke to a tech who just repeated what I said to him over and over again because he obviously didn't know what else to do. I'm not even joking. I didn't know whether to cry, scream or laugh my ass off. Every time I call Cox for tech support, I give the rep about a minute and if it is clear they don't know anything, I just hang up and call back. When I know my internet service issue can probably be fixed by the "resetting" it, I actually like the automated system. At least I can just respond to menu options instead of having to deal with a complete moron who isn't as smart as the automated system. When I was pregnant and hormonal, we had a lot of issues with our Cox service and when I would have to call, just thinking about it made me cry. Yeah, real tears. The only thing I haven't had a problem with is the phone service. That is, if there is not a random outage. We had to get it because the AT&T coverage in our apartment is non-existent, which is another review altogether. At least on my land line I can talk of the mother-effing phone, so that is somewhat redeeming. My hat goes off to these guys, because if I had their jobs, after a while I'd run screaming off into the sunset with a case of wine and a bunch of Valium. Technology is wonderful when it works. When it doesn't, it drives me right the hell up the wall. Today's service call started with just Shy, who showed up bearing a FANTASTIC attitude (especially for 4:00 in the afternoon), and an ear-to-ear grin. He worked for a little while and then called in the other two... they work well as a team, yo! Funny thing is, I'd met one of them last year when I moved into this place and had to have the cable connected. The guys were here today for a good three hours. Messing with this, messing with that. I made friends with them and after a while, I think they were actually enjoying hanging out with me. Note that I always try to be really nice to people like this... you never know if they might just happen to "accidentally" turn on all the premium channels without remembering to note it. As it was, I didn't end up with any free premium channels, but they were kind enough re-wire my Internet connection and telephone line to gain me a higher cable signal strength. You don't even want to know why this is important - trust me. I already know WAY more than I ever wanted to know. They also completely configured my TiVo (they don't usually go this far) and stayed to make sure everything was running smoothly and at optimum performance. I can see why this kind of thing drives people nuts. Please - we've got a freaking ROBOT on MARS!!! Can you please just connect my TV without my having to kick and scream? Along those lines, while they were here they told me some really overboard stories about service calls they've been on. One of the guys talked about a story he hears about a service tech who went to a guy's house and found himself on the other end of a shotgun barrel... "you're not leaving here until you fix this," the guy said. After five hours, he finally managed to get out of the house and call the police. Another guy told me a story about a woman down the street who looked at him and, in all honesty, said "if you don't get this working, my husband is going to kill you." They went on and on about irate customers, idiots who blame them for their own mistakes and for product flaws over which they have no control, and the general lunacy they face when meeting the public. I only get my wireless from them, so you'd think that it would be simple enough. But in the last 3 months of Cox service, I've had to call their "help" line on several occasions. Each time, I'm asked if I have tried unplugging my modem and plugging it back in. Oh! I hadn't thought of that! Problem solved. Thanks Cox! But really, never have I been transferred so many times without getting the problem solved, only to be told in the end that I have to call a different number, which ends up not existing. Your friend in the digital age, my ass. Cox Communications, such an oxymoron, as no one at this company seems able to communicate. The amount of spin their call center reps give when you contact them is so incredible, you'd think they were on Capitol Hill running for office. For instance, I received a call in June stating I would be shipped a new cable modem free of charge, since my old one would no longer be good after mid-July. I waited until the first week of July and still no modem, so I call them to find out what's going on. The tech said not only did they have no record of this, but the company doesn't give out free modems. I went to Amazon and got one for $44. Literally 3 weeks later, FedEx comes to the door with a box from Cox. Wanna guess what's in the box? Thankfully, I only have Internet from them, and eagerly awaiting a better alternative (FIOS anyone?). Even with their latest upgrades, my top speeds are nowhere near their claims, On a more happy note, my phone service is VOIP with all the bells and whistles (including long distance and voicemail) for less than half what they charge. My TV service through DirecTV is FAR superior in sound and picture quality (with MANY more HD channels, despite what Cox states), and since it's an east coast feed, I get my shows 3 hours earlier. Even their DVR is better, and you can buy the equipment from Costco instead of being forced to "lease" theirs. read more

Finally canceled my internet service with these dolts and got Speakeasy DSL, which, while more pricey, provides steady and reliable service. Cox couldn't bother to help me because I was using a Mac. I do this shit for a living and know when the provider is having problems. Nonetheless, they refused to support me. Then they cut off my service on some weird premise that I was violating copyrights (uh, no, I was not). Had to promise to never ever do it again and they turned it back on. That gave me enough time to setup with speakeasy and flush these turds down the toilet. If it weren't for the Padres baseball on Ch.4, I'd cancel their bullshit TV service and go dish. Here is what happened to me: My bills for the last three months were: $79.95, $111.00, $117.50. Naturally confused about how Cox was charging me, I called them. While speaking on the phone with the customer representative, she informed me that my promotions ran out and so I had no more discounts on various services. Great. I had promotions? Why aren't they on my bill? Why does bill not show when these promotions were/are going out? After all, if you work with your customers to get to a bottom line price for services using several promotions, just put those promotion periods on the bill so the customer knows when they are going to charged extra and how. So after clearing everything up. I told my customer-service rep, "Hey look, one of your people called me and offered to put me on a bundle for a reduced price just last month. I asked him if there were ANY strings attached to this, i.e., only for a couple months then your bill increases by 800%, you have to sign a term deal, sell your soul to them. It was only after he had told me that there were no strings attached did I agree to a bundle. And now after one month you are charging me a 30% increase from my previous bill. What gives?" "I'm sorry, let me take off 20% of your current bill." "That's cool, but you are still going to charge me a 30% increase for the months after this month. And this is after one of your guys told me that there are no strings attached to the price I had agreed to last month." "I'm really sorry, but I know Cox don't do this shady business stuff. I'm sure he just forgot to tell you. Let me transfer you to [so-and-so] department so they can help figure out if you qualify for any promotions and/or some way to reduce your bill." After the transfer, the new customer-rep said, "Sorry, you don't qualify for any promotions." "So I can't get a reduced bill?" "No." "But it will stay at $117.50? Its not going to change because the promotions are out right?" "Right" "Well, what if I cut [so-and-so] channels and reduce my internet speed?" "Hmm...then it would be about $117.50." "What the fuck?" "On sorry, actually, your next month's bill is going to be like $125.50 or something because your promotion on your internet service is going to end." "What the fuck, you just told me it wasn't going to change. And when did I sign up for a promotion on my internet service?" "Sorry I apologize. I'm not the billing department and you are asking me billing questions." "Well, what department are you?" "Retainment and Promotions Department." "Hmm...okay. I cancel my service. All of it. T.V., Internet, the phone I don't use." "Okay, send your equipment within 10 days." Apparently the customer service rep isn't that good at retaining customers. One day later, some customer service rep calls me and left a message wanting me to call back about promotions that he can offer for me to keep using their service. That's cool. They could have offered me those promotions WHILE I was on the phone with their "retainment and promotions" department. And they could tell me when promotions are going to end, too. It's easy, Cox. Don't be shady with me. I will use your service. I've been an ATT U-Verse customer before. Their customer service reps were not extra-friendly. Their services weren't particularly cheaper. Their technological problems were admittedly more infrequent, but Cox's technological problems I was able to deal with. But when I was an ATT U-Verse customer, there was one glaring difference between them and Cox: the bill was the same every month. I didn't get charged for "the end of one promotion" one month and "the end of another promotion" in another month. At the very least, AT&T was honest with me. Horrible experience with COX! I got the internet package for $69 a month but as soon as I got it, I realized that I didn't have ESPN or other channels I wanted. 1st Call: I called to get the channels and the guy I talked to told me that I could get it for $92 a month... for some reason we got disconnected. They did not call me back. 2nd Call: I called again a couple days later and they said I couldn't get it for $92.00 that it would be $118.00. They said they were going to transfer me to the "right" department but I was never able to reach it. 3rd Call: Called again, told me my package was already added for $118 a month. I told them that if they were going to charge me that I was going to cancel. They said they can't do adjustments, so they transferred me to the "right department", I got ransferred to sales and they transferred me to business deparment, and they transferred me again!! I'm only here because I was thinking of switching to ATT Uverse after my wife got a sales pitch from the rep at the store. Checked the Uverse ratings and they were mostly 1 stars. My wife said the only people who review are pissed off at the service, so I checked Cox. Maybe she was right for once, but I find most of the 1 stars for Cox was bitching about the price. The Cox price is high because it is (was) a monopoly. Cable companies are monopolies because the city made them that way. Something about less digging if only one company handled one area. Oh yeah, the city got some hefty kickbacks from the newly formed monopolies back when they started laying cable, and still do for all I know. Nice deal for the city, bad for customers. Being a customer for over 20 years, I tend to take for granted that my service is mostly uninterrupted and good for most of that time. Sure the customer service wait time is long, but they are a monopoly after all. Now that there is competition from ATT Uverse, maybe that will improve, but I'm afraid to make the switch because of all the horror stories over at the Uverse review site. I've never had an outage of over a couple hours on Cox (not counting power blackouts that were caused by another monopoly.) Going with an unknown like ATT is more risk than I want to take on even though they claim to beat Cox price. Proven reliability is worth more than a couple bucks a month that expires anyway at the end of their promo period. For now I'll stick with Cox and hope ATT does well so that the competition drives cable company prices down. It's just a matter of time. I can't log on to my on-line account to pay my bill. It says I may need to re-register for another log-in name if I don't have a cox email address. So I go about the whole account #, pin #, "What's the name of your first dog?" security question crap. I change my log-in name....at the end of this process the website tells me "there's already a username associated with the account # you entered." and then it gives me my old username....the one it prompted me to change at the beginning of all this. I call cox and initially the man seems sympathetic to my problem. Worst company ever. I had them for a year and I had so many issues. Everytime I called to fix something they broke like 6 other things. The last time when I tried to cancel service I spent 6 hours on the phone with them over 2 days and everything still wasn't worked out. That was 2 months ago and I just got a bill at my new address for $300 saying that my service basically was never canceled and not only that they added services... so after 6 hours they couldnt just cancel my damn service? Who has time for this? Its pretty insane how bad they are with their customer service as well as just how bad they are as a company. They are overpriced and really horrid. If you hate them as much as I do, I suggest switching. There are other ways. I hear direct tv is good, but I just switched to AT&T U-verse and so far they haven't really been a problem although anyone is better than cox. I did have one issue with service and I called and someone was out here the next day.... with cox I woulda still been on the phone with them 5 days later and they would have broken and canceled 5 other parts of my service and added 6 features I never asked for that cost an additional $100 a month.... or something like they. Anyway switch switch switch. I don't believe in giving companies money that you don't want to support. There are other ways like AT&T Uverse and my friend has direct tv and she likes them. I could have sworn I reviewed Cox already, but I'm kinda glad I haven't. I have used two of Cox's services: internet and cable TV. But what makes Cox truly horrible is its customer service, and its customer service tools. The Cox Automated Telephone Service is a whore's labyrinth that is designed to eat your time, piss you off, and induce you into killing a small animal. I knew a gal down the street who, after failing to pay her bill through the Cox system, delivered a fatal karate chop to an innocent squirrel. However, there's good news. If you don't kill yourself after 35 minutes of being on hold listening to Yanni music, you finally get an operator. If you're lucky, yours will have passed the GED. I have had more than one screaming match with these Circuit City rejects, whether it's been because they overbilled me, or billed me multiple times and tried to convince me that they were correct in doing so. Tech support is not much better. You actually think because of the title, "Tech Support," you are going to get someone on the line who is technically proficient in solving your technical problem. Unless your problem is finding creative ways to prevent Cox support representatives from procreating, they're not much help. Another tool that exhibits classic Cox retardation is the Cox website. I used to be able to pay my bill online. Logged in, paid my bill, and I was out. It was a good set up. Recently, Cox changed its website so those of us who do not have a Cox email account have to RE-REGISTER on the site. Sigh. Ok, I thought, how bad could this be? Problem 1: Enter your account number. Sounds easy enough, but the problem is, Cox doesn't send me a paper bill. To help with the environment and all that, I've opted for paperless billing, which does not display my account number. So, I have to call to get it. See above comment on 35 minute hold on the Yawni train. (Get it? Yawn-i?) Problem 2: Invalid Code. Invalid Username. Invalid Pin. Even after following the form's help tips, it still rejects information you enter. So, no luck in re-registering. I JUST WANT TO PAY MY BILL! So guess what? I get to call support again! Then I realized, Cox has set up an elaborate system to not solve any problems. Genius! As for my services, I cancelled the Cox Internet, because connectivity kept dropping. Getting help from Cox was like pulling teeth. I switched to AT&T and have hadn't had any problems since. TV hasn't been all that bad, but not all that great either. And since I couldn't pay it online anymore, I cancelled it on May 9th out of principle. I have finally gotten the bitter taste of Cox out of my mouth. (Wait, that didn't come out right...) I've been having trouble with Cox ever since I signed up. They lie to you about the services you're getting until you receive a huge bill. Then you call to complain and they come up with every excuse and transfer you to a million people. Please go to Direct tv they are the better option. read more

One star is far too kind for this shitbag outfit! I am ready to fucking BITCH!! Every time I have had to deal with Cox it has been an agonizing nightmare. Waiting on hold forever, lazy idiot employees who read from a script without answering questions, and the slooooowest digital cable on earth. Even getting the cable installed was a nightmare. The installation guy showed up (late) and installed the box and left. All seemed OK for about an hour. THen the box started rebooting itself. Every 5 minutes after rebooting the box would reboot again and again. I called Cox, who then told me to unplug the box from the wall. Duh? That's the first thing you do with any electronic device that fucks up. Unplug it and restart, hope for the best. WHen I called them again they said they would send a technician out within TWO WEEKS. I argued with the useless moron on the other end, then hung up and called back. I then got someone who actually seemed to care about my situation who then said a technician would be out the following day, sometime between 9-2pm--typical. Shockingly, the guy showed up just before 11am and installed the new box. Thankfully this box worked and he quickly left. Since then I have had the absolute slowest digital cable imaginable. I hit the menu button and the guide takes at least 5-6 seconds to load. Also, the commands are very slow to respond. It behaves like a computer with far too little RAM installed. You hit the up/down channel button four times in a row, and it slowly moves up four channels. It takes about 2 seconds per channel. When i called Cox, again I was told "reboot your cable". What the fuck is this Windows 95? I wish there wasn't such a monopoly on Cable services. I can't have Direct TV where I live. It can't be any worse, or more expensive. I had Time Warner in NYC, it sucked. I had Cablevision when I lived in Jersey, it also sucked. But nothing sucks like Cox. There service is even worse than my puns;) read more

slow inconsistent internet. outages all the time. last year was the worst and going into this year also. the agents try to help. they keep sending out techs. but things never changed. it was so stressful and they are not happy i have to call in all the time. its a viscous circle. the agents felt bad and gave me credits for no internet service. my phone and cable were okay. they made it seem like it was me and my devices all the time. but then the corporate office got involved and then it went from bad to worse. they were no help at all. and they started to get angry and nasty with me for calling all of the time to get my internet going? i would have stayed and tried with them since i had been with them for 20 years. i do not like leaving and starting all over again. but that corporate office group was the last straw with their unhelpful unknowledgeable rude service. they yelled at me and sent me nasty letters. whats that about. they have no conscious on how they treat the customers. and how is that going to rectify anything. dave,shameeka, janice. they need to go and get some better help in there. some of them have been there for a long time and maybe they need to clean up that dept. get them out of there and hire nicer better help. i have a new provider and my internet it normal. i have the same devices so it was them all along. but they did not want to take responsibility for it in the end. blame the customer when you run out of solutions??? they used to be the nicest company thats why i stay for so long. they were so easy going helpful and fair. i do not know what happened to them. sad..... read more

If you are considering Cox I would just have to steer you towards absolutely anything else they have HORRIBLE costumer Service as well as having very spotty internet.
