While this isn't a foodie haven by far, it serves as advertised: old-fashioned comfort food - a bit like a Cracker Barrel without daily specials. Covid measures were pretty strong, though once people are seated they're only about 3' apart. We ate on the outside patio and had a pleasant experience. The water they serve is Vista Tap, ew. I have been coming to Coyote Cafe before I could even say Coyote Cafe and before Yelp existed! Yeah that's along time! I have been with this place through all the changes, but what remains the same is great quality home style meal for great prices! I would go try new breakfast places, but I was always comparing them to Coyote. My all time favorite breakfast is the Vegetarian Omelette with Hashbrowns, Sourdough bread, and plenty of coffee refills, and I'm not even a vegetarian. So unfortunately when they started adding broccoli, spinach, artichokes, or any other vegetable that wasn't in the original vegetarian omelette, I became slightly aggravated! I love those vegetables, just not in my omelette, and it was perfect already! Didn't have to change a thing! So I either pick them out or become one of those annoying people who says, "Can I have the Vegetarian Omelette except yada yada yada and oh yeah none of that either." **Cue** Rolling eye glare! Honestly, it doesn't matter what you have because everything tastes great such as: Hamburger/Cheeseburger, Half Sandwich/Half Soup Combo with dessert, Sweet and Sour Chicken (Specials), Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Pancakes, Sausage Breakfast Sandwich and much more. This update is over due. My recent visit to Coyote Cafe was in March. I met a friend here for lunch during the weekday. Luckily for us we missed the lunch crowd. The place hasn't changed much as far as decor. You still have the comfy feel when you walk into the restaurant. My dish was a BLT. It was quite delicious. There wasn't nothing fancy about it, but it had just the right amount of bacon, lettuce and tomato. There wasn't gobs of mayo, and the bacon was cooked to perfection. We went to get food and while waiting no one said hello to anyone standing in line, they would just walk by. When we were seated, the table had sticky syrup residue still. My husband asked if it could be wiped down and when the hostess wiped up the syrup, she left it soapy suds and we didn't have a napkin to use. We've lived in vista very close to coyote cafe for 3 years and I feel that we've been missing out on this hidden gem. When you enter you seat yourself and then someone comes to give you menus and takes your drink orders. I've had in the past been to places where it's self seated and they take forever to attend us or they even forget about us, not coyote cafe, not even two minutes into our seating and we got attended by the lovely Lin the coffee was great! (they have hazelnut and French vanilla) We orders the omelette special (bacon, spinach, cheese omelet) everything was perfect! The only thing I was shocked at was the price for the avocado! Very typical restaurant. I came in for breakfast, and ate my food in the car. Nothing really stood out about this place. I don't have anything good to say, but I do have a complaint. The breakfast sausages tasted like they were sitting out for a few hours. After one bite my mouth felt coated in coagulated oil. Honestly we came to this restaurant thinking it was cafe Coyote in San Diego by recommendation since we're from LA. But oh man as soon as my Hispanic family of 6 went inside, the waitresses were not welcoming. They were passing people in front of us. I would understand if it was a couple but it was partys almost as big as ours. When my older mother was going to ask a waitress how long for the wait she literally put a finger in my mothers face and told her "wait till I seat u" and looked away Rudley SUPER DISRESPECTFUL. Oh hi, Coyote Cafe! My husband and I always want to steer from the popular breakfast joints and support our little mom and pop places. So, we decided to try this cute place out. We never got to hit it when we lived in Vista right up the road but given it's not too far from Oceanside (where we live now), we though "eh, why not." We strolled in on a Sunday morning around 8:50am or so. Wasn't packed at all and we walked right in and saw a "please seat yourself" sign and we did just that. Seconds later, a nice hostess came with our breakfast menus and she took our drink orders (OJ for the dude, coffee for the Mrs). We scanned the menu and instantly knew what we wanted. I got the french toast topped with bananas and strawberries, two over-easy eggs, bacon & sausage. The husband ordered the chorizo scramble, added an extra egg, a pancake & a side of bacon. This is one of those classic restaurants we used to call a coffee shop. The menu is extensive so everyone will find something they want. They serve breakfast all day but they serve very hearty dinners so it doesn't make the choice any easier. Two types of gravy but you can get a salad if you are in a healthy mood. But seriously, they have some lighter stuff. They have a good senior menu. They added some great outdoor seating that you can see in the photos. Hidden Vista old school diner that won't let you down. We have had to wait a little bit both times we have come here for our food but this place is always packed and it honestly makes sense because they deliver. I got the breakfast sandwich the first time I came and it was delicious. The fruit that accompanied it was fresh too. The burger omelet was hang over heaven. The pancakes are perfect and the home fries (ask for the cripsy- its worth the wait) were divine. Like truly, I am salivating thinking about it right now. Visited early Sunday morning and it wasn't busy but it also wasn't bare bones. Immediately we were told to sit wherever we liked so definitely chose an empty booth. The specials were on the board and I got a chive, jalapeno, and cheese omelet. The boyfriend got a meat lovers omelet. Everything was swell and we liked how a pancake was an option for one of the sides. Food arrived promptly and piping hot. I was enjoying my omelet until I bit down on something horribly hard. I thought it was an egg shell, so i spit out the hard object. I regret not looking down after doing so. I continued to swallow the rest of the bite and saw that in my mouth was a small screw which literally hurt my molar. Seriously, a screw. I'm not sure how that even happens??? Like, sure a hair or piece of eggshell could have been reasonable? But.. a screw?? How is that possible? Did it fall from the ceiling?! Did the kitchen play a pre-Halloween prank on me? I don't even know. I couldn't even touch the rest of the plate afterwards. I am serious, I did not bring this screw in. It was inside my omelet and cooked with it. So much egg was trapped inside the rivets. I informed the waitress and she even couldn't fathom how a screw could get in my meal. My boyfriend's omelet was fine.. but I continued to warn him to take smaller bites and inspect each inch of his omelet. At the end of it, we were told that our meal was free and even a second omelet was made but I didn't want it.
