On a friend's recommendation, my wife and I went to Kindred Spirits for an early dinner/hang-out. They are located on a great little street in a mixed shopping/business/residential area local to us. They have a nice interior build-out with a huge wine bar, but it was a nice evening and we elected to sit on their spacious patio. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by Sarah, who is the bartender and also manages a couple of nights a week for the owner. Sarah is super friendly, explained the menu and provided great table service. They have a large wine selection. My wife ordered a chardonnay and I stuck with an Arnold Palmer. We ordered their bruschetta appetizer, served as six pieces of toasted bread and the expected toppings. It was a perfect start to our meal. We were not super hungry, and selected a three-cheese charcuterie board. You are able to select your cheeses, and Sarah again helped us make our decision. It was perfect for a summer-weather afternoon (although in March) and we chatted, had our drinks and picked at the board until it was gone. During our meal, Sarah was very attentive to our needs. My wife tried another chard, and we ordered their banana dessert, which had great flavor and was a nice end to the meal. This is a great place to quietly enjoy some wine, beer and food. If I were to ask you to picture the most elegant and sophisticated wine bar anywhere on earth, you might think of, oh, I don't know, La Compagnie St Germain in Paris or Oscar Wilde in New York or even Wally's in Beverly Hills. You probably wouldn't think of one in Valencia, would you. Well, I have been to all of the above and I am telling you, you would be missing out on a one of a kind, out of this world experience that can be had any day of the week at Kindred Spirits, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency. No, I didn't expect it to come anywhere close to the stratospheric experiences you could have were you to choose any wine bar you fancied, but, the minute I got inside, I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience that I will want to repeat. First of all, it's downright beautiful. Flawlessly decorated with a chic living room vibe with just the right elements to suggest a curated museum-level sensibility. See my pictures as well as all the others here on Yelp. I spent the entire time noticing little details like the plush velvet banquet, the clubby wing back arm chairs, the art deco artefacts and furnishings, paintings, sculptures, even the ceiling lights were unique and obviously carefully selected. And then there is the stupefying wine and spirits menu that goes on and on. I rarely drink anything alcoholic but I couldn't pass up a taste of one of the exquisite sparkling wines that caught my eye. There is a full range of everything. If you really must have beer, it's there, but! For heaven's sake, try something elevated -- ask for recommendations. You won't be disappointed. However, the star of the entire experience is the menu. Now, remember, I am a lifelong vegetarian. I had fun limiting myself to four choices -- I could have had more were I not on a perpetual diet. You can see what we ordered in my photographs. Each dish was superb, really, first in class. Nonetheless, take a good look at my photographs of the Autumn Apple Tarte -- it is the g.o.a.t., believe me. Not only did it taste celestial but notice the tiny flowers? The chef, Priscilla, is a highly skilled and trained artist, her medium just happens to be delicately flavored and arranged plates of heaven. And Sarah, our attendant took a concierge approach to caring for us. A cosmopolitan playlist provided a lyrical backdrop that just made everything flow like silk. Parking is easy, simply use the Hyatt Convention Center parking lot adjacent to a verdant golf course or their garage, for free. There are two main rooms and we asked for the "lobby"-like large room with a giant table that we had all to ourselves, given we were there in the late afternoon on a Sunday. Even so, clientele were coming and going. It was the golden hour and we were draped in a warm light and cozy but uplifting spirit. The entire experience was flawless. And the tab? Ridiculously reasonable. You may not be headed to Rodeo or Saint-Germain-des-Prés or West 27th street any time soon. So, instead, treat yourself to this epic wine bar. Best value tasting of wine.... I like red but surprisingly there was a nice bubbly, orange sparkling wine I liked the best. New, non-chain, places in Santa Clarita to eat and drink delicious things? Yes, please. We made a reservation at Kindred Spirits Wine Bar as soon as we learned it existed, any place that has a cheeseboard is a place that I want to go to and eat the cheese at. That doesn't mean that it's going to be good, but in this case it was really good. It still has that new restaurant vibe. Everything is clean, the staff is really attentive. There are lots of seating options, including tables and seats at the spacious bar, and a separate room as well. My wife and I sat at a table near the bar, the place wasn't packed on a Thursday night so we probably didn't need a reservation, but never a bad idea to have one. We had a flight of red wines, our favorite... And they were especially accommodating, giving us tastes of some of them before the flight came out so we could make the best possible choice. That was very generous of them, considering that the wine-tasting glasses are about the same size as the flight glasses. There are great and unique vegetarian options on their food menu, including the Podi Fries - perfectly cooked skin-on french fries coated with Indian seasoning. These were delicious we would come back just to eat these again. My wife and I also shared truffle Arancini, coded fried rice balls on a marinara sauce... A classic Italian dish, again delicious. And we had the Grilled Romaine with Avocado and Cotija cheese - Nice looking dish with little tortilla strips on top... Not my wife's favorite iteration of this kind of dish, but we both generally liked it. There are a slew of other vegetarian offerings, including Shuka, soups, and salads, flatbreads, and other small plates, such as brussels sprouts and a creamy Barada dish. The kindred lasagna looks pretty good too, so there are lots of opportunities, as vegetarians to come back try something different and have more of their quite extensive wine collection. Great indoor and outdoor seating areas to enjoy wines and tapas. Our daughter stays at the Hyatt Regency for work and we chose to do an early dinner near her hotel. The outdoor seating is the perfect choice on a balmy September evening. They offer lounge seating and regular tables for 4. We enjoyed intimate lounge seating with a lower table and the service, wine selection and food options provided the perfect setup for us to catch up with our daughter. We started with a bottle of Prosecco. For Happy Hour, they offer vegetarian samosas that were the best appetizer to pair with our bubbles. It was Tapas Tuesday!! So ordered Batatas bravos and potato croquettes from the Tapas menu and we each paired them with a different wine. The servers were so friendly and made great recommendations. We finished our meal with a sweet ending - the Tiramisu Brownie. Recently stopped in a few times to this VERY CUTE wine bar. I first stopped in two-ish weeks ago to meet a friend really quick. It happened to be Tapas Tuesdays. We tried the Pequillo Rellenos (pequillo peppers stuffed with manchego and chorizo) and the Gambas al Ajillo (succulent shrimp sautéed in garlic infused olive oil) both were fantastic! Kindred is my new favorite spot for wine in the SCV. Wine was great--I really enjoy the flight option. We have had the charcuterie twice now and enjoyed the cheese choices. Right when you walk in the ambiance was so perfect. This place is hidden and tucked away but when you walk in immediately you transform and you enter a beautifully decorated space. A Disappointing Experience from the Moment We Walked In. My husband, adult daughter, and I decided to check out a new wine bar on Saturday, April 5th. We were genuinely looking forward to ordering a few wine flights and sampling some of the food--especially the arancini and other small plates. The venue looked promising from the outside, and we hoped to enjoy a relaxed afternoon on the patio. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty--only two patrons sat at the bar. We requested a table for three on the patio, as my daughter had her 10 lb. miniature poodle with her. The woman who greeted us--whom we later learned was the owner--made an immediate and unpleasant impression. Her demeanor was cold and visibly irritated, and frankly, she came across as rude and unrefined. Without a smile or even basic courtesy, she told us we could sit wherever we liked and handed us menus, stating a server would be right with us. Shortly after, the server arrived and informed us that dogs were not allowed on the patio unless they were service animals. I found this surprising, given we had already been seated and nothing was mentioned beforehand. I responded that it seemed to be the restaurant--not the building--that had this policy. She replied, "Maybe down the road, the policy will change." I told her it didn't matter--because we would not be coming back. I was baffled as to why the owner even bothered seating us if she had no intention of allowing us to stay. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome from the start. My daughter, who lives in Beverly Hills, noted that her well-behaved poodle is welcome at many fine dining establishments--including Michelin-starred restaurants. Yet here we were, at an empty wine bar, being treated like an inconvenience. The whole experience was disappointing and frankly appalling. Given that we've frequently driven past this restaurant and noticed it empty, we thought perhaps we'd give it the benefit of the doubt--despite hearing from locals that the food was subpar and the service was lacking. Unfortunately, those warnings proved true. We are the kind of clientele any upscale establishment should want to attract--respectful, enthusiastic, and open-minded. The owner's rude and classless behavior not only drove us away, but reaffirmed what we've heard: this restaurant lacks the warmth, hospitality, and professionalism necessary to survive in this industry. We left and went to the Newhall Press Room, where we were warmly welcomed, treated with respect, and enjoyed a lovely experience--everything we hoped this visit would be. Sadly, I agree with the locals: this place will not last. The owner seems entirely out of touch with what it takes to run a successful business. It's unfortunate--but not surprising.
