Food was delicious but the staff took to long to come back to our table numerous times.

Yelping in advance is always a good idea. Unfortunately, not paying attention to Yelp upon arrival to a new town doesn't do much use when you don't use the app! LOCATION: Just off the main street with a patio, we opted to eat here so we didn't have to wait for a table looking out on the beach. We should have known not to bother when there was only three tables sat at and no one was smiling. THE FOOD & DRINKS: We ordered two items to hold us over and chose what they listed as their best foods. The Narly nachos... were gnarly in the bad way. The carne asada quesadilla... was seriously bleh. Margaritas were just OK and they did have beer also. SERVICE: The woman server was OK and the food runners were polite, but ready to take away food before we even finished. Overall, the service was not great nor good, but not horrible. Bottom Line - We wouldn't have gone here if we paid attention to the Yelp app and we sure would not return. YELPERS BEWARE! read more

This place is off of the boardwalk, outside and inside dining, prices were average to all the other places. If you sit outside great people watching, Margarita are flavorful and good size, service is quick, the burger comes with a salad or fries, burger was tasty, if you order food chips and salsa are free, if just drinking then they are $2, I had the shrimp quesadilla also tasty, all in all the food was average, except for the albondigas soup, it came with a side of rice, onions, and cilantro to add in, bill for two was $60 read more

We were here & nobody even acknowledged us...In front of door they put the sign which shows stay here to be seated, but nobody was there. After a long wait, we stepped in door & nobody welcomed us. I asked them where are we supposed to sit. After another long wait, they bring a menu!!! We were super upset & just left the restaurant for another place. We visit avalon every summer several times and stay for a few weeks each time and to say this was the worst food and service we ever had is an understatement. After waiting 20 mins for a server we ordered. I had chicken enchiladas and my spouse had a combo plate. The enchiladas were absolutely inedible. The green sauce was bitter and tasted terrible. The chicken was generic and had no flavor. The rice was horrible. Partly mushy and partly uncooked rice mixed in. When I finally got server attention her response was "I'm sorry" and she walked away. My spouse combo plate came with one chicken enchilada with a different sauce but I wasn't offered a choice. Too bad. Used to be good. We will not be back. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star. After they took our order for drinks, its like we never existed. We waited patiently and see if we do even get our water but NOPE! They started serving other people who came AFTER US. Waitress just looks at us and moves on like nothing happened. Very bad customer service and will never recommend this place to people especially with kids or family (we came here as a family to celebrate fathers day). Didn't see the bad reviews until after we got here but we had a good experience. The server was very nice never made me wait for water, kept our basket of chips filled, and got our order out to us pretty quick. The salsa was pretty weak and close to bottled. That was the worst part of the meal, but I had a carne asada burrito and it was pretty good. Considering how overpriced everything is in Avalon, not a bad deal. read more

The service was ok but I had to call the waiter 3 times. There were only two guys but twice they were just talking to each other, as I waved my arms in the air for their attention. The food was also okay but totally not in line with the prices. They were pricy for what the offered and the tortillas tastes like the grill handing been cleaned well had that strange taste. Service was not the best. We had an issue with the order and our server was not attentive. Did not try to fix or find a solution. No sincere apology. Customer service was horrible. Drinks were great however, food was not good. I would try to come back again however because of customer service I will not come back and I will not recommend. Our first morning on Catalina: I had gone for a lengthy hike, awakened my wife, and hit the hot streets of Avalon Town. Where to go for breakfast? Wife wanted some sort of egg dish, I desired some sort of doughy substance, i.e. waffles/pancakes/French toast. We settled on this place due to the fact that there didn't appear to be any wait, as opposed to the incredibly busy Original Jack's across the street. And it was ok. It's always interesting to have breakfast while other patrons are drinking Budweiser, but hey, these are the islands, not seminary training. Wife had the Huevos Rancheros, and wouldn't be hungry for about five hours afterwards. As for me, while I had a cinnamon roll earlier that morning, I felt obligated to order the French Toast sticks, something I haven't specifically had for a long time. While it satisfied my immediate hunger, they weren't anything I'd return for. Service was decent enough - our coffees and waters were refilled frequently enough, and the waitresses were courteous without necessarily being conversational. I do get the sense that the joint fills up when a sporting event of interest takes place, i.e. the World Cup. But it wasn't being played that morning, so all we got were replays and commentary. So yes, Coyote Joe's works as a breakfast option. I think I'd like to try them for dinner. read more

Terrible service. Overpriced food that wasn't even good. We went here for an early lunch...most people were still eating breakfast around 11:30, but we ordered lunch. We waited at least 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Asked for water, they brought a warm Aquafina bottle that we had to pay for instead of a glass of water like most places would. I had to ask for ice twice before I got it. One of our entrees was wrong and we had to send it back. By the time we left we noticed they were giving everyone free chips and salsa. We never got any, but since we were early we didn't even realize that we should have gotten it until we were leaving. The food was not very good. Overly salty rice, bland beans, the burrito was ok, but tiny considering it was $17. Definitely won't be back. read more

I'm sorry to have to leave a negative review but I don't want others to waste their money. We were very disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant. We ate lunch here 8/11/17 and all of our food choices were very disappointing. I ordered an avocado tostada which consisted of canned black beans on a tortilla with shredded iceburg lettuce, very few diced tomatoes, and a few slices of avocado. No seasoning, no salsa and no cheese. The fish tacos were no better. The breading on the fish was so tough, you could only eat the fish inside. We were also charged full price for the daily special and had to ask for the check to be corrected. read more

Was hungry and it was affordable. first off the service? never have heard of hospitality here apparently. the server could not seem more bothered to be there. quick interactions, short responses. absolutely no customer service whatsoever. the food? inedible. this has to be the worst "mexican" place i have ever been to. the carne asada tacos, barely even had ANY flavor. the "salsa" they gave us tasted SOUR. the tacosso dry, full of onions, and tomatoes. the meat quantity was good, wish i could've enjoyed it. ate the food cause i was hungry had to use the pico de gallo from the chips and salsa to give it some type of flavor. even then i could barely even eat my other tacos. I only ate 1 1/4 i wish i was being dramatic because i work in the restaurant industry and know some places just have bad days. this was no bad day. this seemed the norm here and that it's okay to not give any customer service. the food and service is not even "just okay". i regret spending my money here. do not come here. read more

We came to the island as a staycation and stopped into Coyote Joe's for some drinks and an appetizer as we had just eaten. We tried this cheesy green sauce dish (don't know the exact name) but OMG was it sooooo good and flavorful. We sat in the bar area and were pretty much the only ones in it and the service was prompt and my drink never was empty. When I come back to Catalina, I will definitely make it a point to stop in and have a drink. read more

The service was decent, but during the 45 minutes we were waiting for our food, she could've at the very least, offered more chips and salsa or fill our drinks. She updated us twice, stating "there's a big party and their order is being made right now..." Don't go here, came here for dinner 7/29/17 around 7pm. Ordered the shredded beef tacos, everything was extremely bland. Even worse than their food is their service. Waitress was extremely inattentive, we had to literally wave our hands around to get her attention. It turned out to be two overcooked fish sticks on top of some cheese melted onto the flour tortilla and a side salad (choice of rice/beans, fries or salad). The fish sandwich was prepared with the same style fish sticks, which wasn't what we were expecting. No cheese on the fish sandwich. Even the two side salads on the two plates were different, one with tomatoes, the other without. The wrong salad dressing arrived with our order as well. I've been here a couple times when I come out here for work. It opens earlier than other restaurants in Avalon, so it works for me. Food here is okay...nothing special but definitely not bad. Service here in the morning and afternoon is great (I see they got some bad service reviews, but I've never had a problem when I've come out here); my iced tea is always full and chips and salsa come out quickly. They have really good chips and salsa too btw. I will definitely be coming back! read more

The food here is pretty decent compared to other places i visited while on the island. However the service we received was terrible. When we entered the restaurant a nice young man told us to sit wherever we liked which was fine. Our waitress basically took our order, gave us our food, and never returned! Instead she went outside and started conversing with people. Another man that worked in the restaurant luckily came and checked on us. In the end we had to go and get the check and to go boxes ourselves. I also don't recommend the margaritas here. I couldn't finish it because it tasted like rubbing alcohol. read more
