However, I had no clue that that damn BBQ would be so good. I almost mistook my finger for one of the bones I was gnawing on. The seasoning is to perfection. The BBQ sauce is amazing (get extra). The corn was juicy. That good ole white bread to sop that sauce up never let me down. The service was quick, efficient, straight to the point. Don't get me wrong, Rendevous was good, but let me just say, we purchased a half rack with 2 sides, baked beans and potato salad, we didn't have time (or room in our stomachs) to eat it so we brought it home with us and two days later, yes two days later, and when I say that BBQ was tender, I mean tender and flavorful. Service was straight forward and employees were friendly, yet about their business. I got the brisket sandwich (I do not eat pork) and sides of beans (they do not use meat) and cole slaw. WOW! I could have eaten two they were so good. My partner got the chicken wings, ribs and brisket and he was simply blown away. Driving through Memphis headed to Atlanta and decided to stop by and try this restaurant out for the barbecue. Very impressed everything was good. Ribs are tender and the potato salad was very good. This was a little hole in the wall spot that was recommend to us while on our weekend trip to Memphis. They said they had the best BBQ in the city at our hotel so of course we had to try it! Sweet tea was good as well. The only thing I didn't like is how they smother your meat in BBQ sauce I would have liked the sauce on the side. My wife and I traveled here after seeing cozy corner on a popular food show. We were excited to try it after flying all day and drove straight there. We were met with a long line, it's obviously a popular spot in Memphis. First the good things. The barbecue sauce, I had the medium, was exceptional. The wings were also very good; moist with great flavor. I'm always reluctant to get chicken at a barbecue place because it has a tendency to be dry, but that was not the case with these. We had coleslaw, potato salad, corn, and bbq beans for sides. The coleslaw and potato salad were of the creamy variety, which is what I like, they were above average. Both the beans and the corn were average at best. Where it really broke down, and was the big surprise to me, were the ribs. I had the distinct impression they were pre-broiled before finishing them on the grill. I might be wrong, but they certainly lacked smoke flavor and texture. On a sidenote, the service was good except for the manager, who was not very friendly. In fact, she seemed to go out of her way to be unfriendly. Whatever....when you have a line out the door I guess you can be any way you wanna be. I've been here a several times now and I'm good with the BBQ here. I've had the hen, wings, ribs, and most of the sides. It's been years since I have visited though. I am never really in the neighborhood so it's got to be a destination trip if I make it here. I was on the fence on three or four stars. I pushed the count up to four because of the iconic history and the service I've received when visiting. I do miss Mrs. Robinson's greetings like I used to get back in the day. It's not that the people aren't friendly, it's just that I miss her sweet smile. I like their hot sauce a lot. It's has just the right amount of heat and vinegar. I appreciate that the ribs still have a little bite to them and don't just fall off of the bone. They are cooked perfectly when they hold on to the bone a bit. Nice. Wings are a little soft but have a great flavor. I dig the Cornish hen a lot. They are really done well here. Here is where I get sideways though. I really don't like ANY of the side items. They are all just a bit off tasting to me. I know a lot of people really like the spaghetti but that shit is nasty y'all... for real... it's just weird. It's like wet noodles with rub on it. I've been living in the Suburban area of Memphis for 1 year and I've been searching for some good Memphis BBQ. I've been to 3 places and I won't say names but, they were not good. I was told to go to Cozy Corner and they did not disappoint!!! The customer service was on point and as busy as they were they were getting them orders out the door. I love how they show you your food just to make sure it's right! The only thing is they forgot to give me my caramel cake that I paid and I didn't realize it until I got back to work. We tried to get some bbq a few days before but everyone was closed due to boil water advisory. Some were doing take out but since we were on the road, I didn't not feel like eating bbq food in the car and we wanted to dine in. We finally got that chance, and I'm glad I remained patient. Most people are doing take out but they had some tables so we were lucky to have been able to dine in. You place our order and the counter and then they call your name when your food is ready. They make up open up the containers to make sure what you ordered is all in there. My wife ordered their 2 rib and 2 wing combo with mild sauce, while I ordered their 6 rib combo with hot sauce. It came with two sides, we ordered corn on the cob, bbq beans and fries. The fries were ok, but the bbq beans were tasty as was the corn on the cob. The mild sauce was good and tasty great with the perfectly seasoned wings. My ribs with the hot sauce were amazing. Where have these been all my life?!? The last time I've tried something this food was back in California at a bbq place that unfortunately shut down. While not as good, cozy corner serves some damn good tasting wings. These bad Boyle's had a nice smoke flavor and super tender. The hot sauce had a nice kick. Memphis is known for their barbecue and now I know why. I've had some bbq at a couple of other spots I Memphis but I don't remember it tasting this good.
