We are on winter vacation in Denver and early one snowy morning we visited the Cozy Cottage. The restaurant has a charming neighborhood feel. The staff was great and helpful in our selections. The "skillet" plates are fantastic. They also have an early bird breakfast that is a super value. The food is definitely fresh and prepared from scratch. Big mistake, lox was tasteless, the lovely caper brine was rinsed off and the onion was chopped! Yuck! Cute cottage with indoor and outdoor seating. It's on a great street with lots of fun shops. It was expensive for breakfast, but worth the splurge. The service was nice. The coffee was ok nothing great, but it was bottomless cup which was nice. My husband and I split the salmon benedict with a side of potatos. The benedict was delicious. The potatoes were ok. Sunday breakfast, 8/7/11. I've had better but I've also had much worse. I ordered fruit with my sausage, eggs and pancakes instead of potatoes. It was a bit disappointing, consisting of mostly unpeeled apple chunks with only a few blueberries and strawberries, and the apple chunks were going brown. Also, of all the things I would serve for breakfast, a side of green peas would not be one of them. Maybe this is common in the UK but it's a bit odd here. My companion said his eggs benedict were overcooked. On the up side, my eggs over-medium were exactly that, and not over-easy or over-raw, which has been the case at other breakfast places. The syrup tasted like the real thing, or very close to it, even though the pancakes themselves were a bit too sweet for my taste. The courtyard is very pleasant on a summer morning, and the service was attentive. While I probably wouldn't make a special trip across town for a Cozy Cottage meal, I would definitely go back whenever in the neighborhood. read more

After having had a less than favorable experience before at this restaurant, I decided to give it another try by bidding on a gift certificate to it at a recent silent auction. After winning the $25 certificate, I took my other half and off we went. We were quickly greeted and sat, acknowledged by the server and brought coffee all to the expected service times. But, the issues happened shortly after. We were offered refills on our coffee while waiting for food. After telling the server they were decaf, she never returned and later, came by and said "oops, meant to tell you we were brewing it." When the refills finally arrive, which was after the food had been delivered, she didn't pick-up the coffee mugs and pour the hot coffee away from the table, no, she left the cups on the table reached over both of us, and poured the fresh, HOT, coffee into the cups. Luckily, she didn't spill or drip. Then comes the food. The 3-egg omelet was 2 eggs at most as it was barely binding the contents together in the small omelet. The pancakes came with no butter and no syrup, so we had to ask the server after waiting about 4 minutes to see her, for that (as well as ketchup for the potatoes). The omelet was served with peas - which is VERY weird and, I know they might be a "signature" thing, but switch to something better than peas please. The pancakes, once the syrup was available, were great. The final issue was paying with the gift certificate. No where on the certificate were there "rules" about it's use. So, when I presented it, the server took it. She returned about 5 minutes later with our receipt. We purchased 22.16 in food/drinks, and gave her the $25 certificate. She said - thanks for coming. So, basically they stole $2.84. I wasn't asking for cash either, a credit for a future visit would have been fine. Of course, on the other hand, we won't be going back so I guess it doesn't matter. This place could be great - nice patio! But, with the current service and ho-hum food, I'd rather take my business to one of the other three breakfast restaurants located a bit further south on the same street. read more

This is a cute spot that we had seen in this neighborhood when previously driving through. We had eaten at its former tenant Gemelli and so we thought we would stop today for lunch. The courtyard tables are cute and mostly shaded. Inside is fairly nondescript. We had to wait for a table despite there being many tables open. We figure there must have been a staffing issue. The staff were all quirky and friendly. The menu has lots of breakfast options with the lunch options being a little more limited but would satisfy most. Hubby got a Cubano - his favorite sandwich. While the pork was generous, it was served on the square ciabatta buns easily found at Costco. It also had a mango salsa and a shredded broccoli slaw that also reminded us of Costco's broccoli slaw salad. He was not a fan of this sandwich. I got a make your own omelet with grits as a side. The omelet was way over-cooked so the eggs were quite dry - and this comment is coming from someone that doesn't like under-cooked eggs and will only eat fried eggs over-hard. I didn't finish the omelet. The grits were good and a different option that I, as a gluten free eater, appreciated. Our bill was $30 (including two iced teas) and we just didn't feel it was a $30 meal. We had considered Village Inn and for about $10 less probably could have gotten a better meal. We would consider eating here again if in the area but would try different menu items. We definitely wouldn't go out of our way to eat here again. If you go, you will enjoy the friendly staff and eclectic mix of diners. P.S. In addition to the grits, they do have gluten free pancakes on the menu. I didn't ask if they also have gluten free bread as I wasn't interested in that option today. read more

My boyfriend and I always go here for brunch! We love it here! The staff is always friendly, but can be a tad slow at times. The food is really delicious and simple. We usually build our own omelets and they come with potatoes and pancakes or toast. It's very reasonably priced. The outside patio is adorable and the inside is great too because it is inside of an old house. You also get 10% off if you're a Regis University student. I had breakfast today. This was my first visit & I'm certain it won't be my last. There were many items I was interested in trying, I decided on the fruit & grain pancakes. DELICIOUS! No lack of fresh strawberries & blueberries as well as pecans. Ok the food is great however that's not the only wonderful thing. Staff is very friendly, the outside patio is cozy, & it's a clean establishment. If I was going to complain it would be about a fly that followed us inside & wouldn't leave us alone. Our waiter, Max was a wonderful distraction, from the fly. Very attentive, responded to all of our requests & it didn't hurt that he is also very charming. I can't really review the food (haven't been there in a few years). However, we stopped by around noon on Sunday to grab a bite. Unfortunately, the 'host' was no where to be found. Plenty of empty table and plenty of wait staff running around, but no one tending to arriving guests. One group actually went in side to find someone and they were told the host was outside somewhere. After 10 minutes we left, along with another couple and a larger group. They both mentioned it was a bad sign and did not want to stick around in hopes of actually getting a table and chance the service. Haven't been to the Cozy Cottage since last summer but feel that it has definitely gone downhill. We waited so long for our food that the server comped our meals. The place definitely wasn't crowded. We were on a time schedule trying to eat before a funeral. The food wasn't of the same quality as previous visits. The server explained there was a new cook. One entree came out luke warm. Tiny tiny tiny...we were on a schedule so when we walked in the place I almost suggested we leave - several tables had just walked in before us and the little joint was heaving. The lady sat us quickly though and disarmed my skepticism immediately. She was lovely and highly efficient despite being the only waitress (I believe she was also an owner). We shared the Buckwheat Pancakes, bacon, fruit, and each had coffee. The pancakes were, and I truly mean this, the BEST pancakes I have ever had in my life. We walked over for Mothers Day... Nothing good to say, it is the first time I got up and left after placing an order. We waited for over 45minutes after putting in a drink and our full order in. I refilled my own coffee once! After twice flagging someone down and being told, "it will be right up" and my 1yr old getting antsy I decided to get out of there. I understand backups in the kitchen especially on "holidays" but the place was 1/2 full! As I walked around I saw a table or two eating and everyone with the same "why did I come here?" look as me. Staff is very disorganized. When I asked to speak to the Manager I was told he was cooking..huh? We have sorely missed eating at Cozy Cottage since they relocated to the Highlands (after losing their lease at their last location by Porter Hospital - no fault of their own). We finally made it over to see their new digs last week. The trip across town was completely worth it, as we knew it would be!!! We loved the patio and the ambiance - we already knew we'd love the food, and the prices are great for the portion size and food quality as well. The new place is beautiful and although not tiny like the previous location, it's definitely got that comfortable and home-like feel to go along with the home cooked kind of food that Jeanette and her son, Mike make and serve. Previous negative reviewers on here must have been on an off day, potentially due to the growing pains of business expansion? Mike and Jeanette truly care about their clients and the food they make and serve. Jeanette has phenomenal recipes, and would often take ideas and suggestions from people in the restaurant. For a place with only 7 or 8 tables (in their old location), we got used to seeing the same regular crowd as well. People were nice to one another and talked. It felt like a home away from home. Since this place is substantially bigger and has a new clientele for this new location, it might be hard to replicate this same feeling of community right off the bat. I know that in time, Cozy will come to be regarded in this neighborhood as a comfortable, fun gathering place where one can get exceptional food at an exceptional price. I can't wait for them to find another location near Swedish or Porter again so we can have a Cozy Cottage closer to us again!!! In the meantime, we'll definitely make tracks to the Tennyson location. read more

I recently visited The Cozy Cottage for breakfast for the first time after being away from the denver area for an extended period of time. I had the Irish Benedict with corned beef hash and found it to be very tasty. The potatoes were very good too. I think I might have liked the hollandaise sauce to have a little more hint of lemon flavor. read more

Cute little cafe with lots of charm. Friendly wait staff, fast service and great food. I got the cesar chavez omelette and home fries which was really good. The green chili sauce was spicy enough that I didn't need any extra hot sauce. My husband got the huevos esconditos which was delish and also perfectly spicy for our tastes.
