Yesterday my boyfriend and I were looking for a local black owned restaurant and discovered The Crab Boss! We ordered the charbroiled oysters, shrimp po'boy with crab fries, Lil Boss Platter, 1 piece of catfish and a small piece of pound cake. When I say this food was some of the best I've had in the DMV!!! It was! Everything was well seasoned and delicious! The food was a little expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. I cannot stress how good this food was, I ordered the crab fries on my first visit. They come with a cheese sauce and another house made sauce that is amazing. They have several platter options and lots of space if you plan to dine in. They are located on a single lot which allows them plenty of parking. My seafood fries were greasy and tasted like the bottom of the barrel fries. Definitely did not taste like 16 dollar fries and the crabmeat had a definite expired stale taste. My fish which was supposed to be whiting was a bit greasy. Honestly the only thing I liked were the Cajun corn cobs. Finally got a chance to check this out since i heard a few people mention it. The overall consensus is that it wasn't necessarily a place we'd go out of our way to go to. I really enjoyed the Gulf Shrimp. They were big, cooked well and paired perfectly with the sauce. As a side, i tried out the sausage and corn. Unfortunately the corn was undercooked and the sausage complemented the dish well but was pretty average also.Tried out the Boss Fries and they were a little salty and the crab cake was okay but nothing special. Drove 30 min to try this place after seeing it on Instagram. We got the Little boss (lobster tail, shrimp, snow crab legs hard boiled egg) with potatoes, corn, sausage and fried rice. The only thing I didn't like was the hard boiled egg was over cooked, it was gray inside. The fried rice left a lot to be desired, it was pretty bland for my taste. The place it nice. Ok, so I recently returned from Vegas and wanted crab legs based on the options at the Vegas buffets. Crab Boss came up as an option and I'm glad it did. The day after Thanksgiving I decided to drive an hour to get there to try out the crab legs, crab cake and boss fries. Well, although I didn't see it posted on the website and it didn't appear to be on the voicemail for the location--although they did make time to say Happy Holidays--the location was closed. As you have already calculated, that was a wasted hour driving there and another wasted hour driving back. I wish their closure had have been publicly posted so I could have made a different decision with my time. The following weekend I drove back to find an open location with no line at 1:30ish on a Saturday. My experience was great. As I walked in, the cashier said "Welcome to Crab Boss" as they did for every customer that walked in. It was a nice touch. When I entered, "Ex-factor" by Lauryn Hill was playing so I immediately felt good about my choice. The cashier was super helpful in finding a platter that worked for me. She answered my questions without any signs of frustration that I may have been the 1 millionth person new person to look at the menu and still have questions about my order. My food was ready quickly and was pretty good. I ate the Boss Fries at the location, which had 10 or more tables. This was a good choice because they would not have lasted an hour for me to get them from Brandywine to Gaithersburg, MD. I bought a platter and a combo to eat from for the weekend and the food held up well the next day. Again, I'm glad I ate the Boss Fries on the spot. They would have been absolute mush later in the day or the following day. I would definitely visit again! Good food and good service. Decided to go here on a Sunday with my boyfriend to enjoy some seafood. We arrived about 2:30 and it was pretty empty. The young lady who took my order was very helpful & friendly. Our food came out pretty quickly. I love ordered the crab cake meal with broccoli & hush puppies. Additionally I got a side of seafood mac & cheese. My boyfriend also got the crab cake order but the bigger version of my meal. His meal had two crab cakes, 6 shrimps, and fries. The crab cakes were so good! It's honestly one of my best crab cakes I've gotten in the area. My broccoli was really delicious, and I loved the hush puppies. I got another order of hush puppies because they were so good. The seafood mac was good but I felt like it was missing something, I think it just needed a little more seasoning. My boyfriend loved his food but the shrimp were kind of tough. I had one of the combo's with crab legs, shrimp, corn, and potatoes. The corn is extra juicy, and yummy, with a little bit of kick from the Cajun seasoning. I wasn't expecting much from this corn but I should've got two. The potato is good although it's just a big old hunk of potato. It tastes better if you dip it in the sauce on the bottom of the tray. The shrimp are a very nice size, juicy, and flavorful. I enjoyed the crab clusters as well. The last time I had their food it was when they used to do deliveries. It was before the restaurants. Back then, hey used to put a lot more of the sauce on the platters. That's the only thing I missed. I'm not sure if they changed the sauce or if they only put a tiny bit on the platter, but it was lacking. Next time, I'll definitely get extra sauce on the side because I'm a saucy kind of girl. After weeks of cyber stalking, my schedule finally aligned with The Crab Boss' and I was able to try his, ever so popular seafood. Why the cyber stalking, you ask? Well, The Crab Boss prepares his Florida style seafood boil in combos, platters, etc., offsite and announces on IG/Facebook where he will be located to sell his meals and what time he will arrive. He comes to parking lots in DC, Laurel, Bowie, Clinton, just to name a few. Due to traffic, the time he announces is usually an estimate, but he tries his best to arrive on time and posts any updates along the way. This particular day, I happened to be second in line. It's a gift and a curse, because after a long day at work, the last thing I really want to do is stand in a line waiting for someone to arrive with my food. At least with me being second, I was guaranteed a combo and I didn't have to wait in a long line. The line....oh, it's some kind of serious. Wrap around the building, serious. Beware, because he does sell out! I love it when food brings people together, because during the wait a few of my family members and I struck up convos with others waiting in line. That made the time pass a little more quickly. He pulls up, greets everyone and starts selling the seafood. The cost for the combo I ordered is $26.50, but on random days he has other items to sell, so pay attention to his "Bat Signal." He accepts cash (exact change only) and he now accepts credit. The full combo consisted of pork sausage, shrimp, snow crab, Cajun corn on the cob, Cajun potato and a Cajun boiled egg. I had to go home and put mine in the oven because it was cold. He's known for a special sauce he puts on the seafood but since the food was prepared earlier in the day, all of the sauce just melted down and became clumps on the bottom of the container. The seafood had a nice flavor and was seasoned well, but for the amount of money I paid, I don't think I received enough food. When I finished, I was still hungry. Perhaps because I bypassed the potato and egg, but the potato wasn't completely cooked and who really wants a boiled egg while eating seafood. In my opinion, all the waiting, reheating, the cost and the amount of food you get, wasn't worth it. In the amount of time that I stood in line waiting for him, I could've either gone out to dinner or better yet, prepared it myself. I've heard him discuss his personal story and I commend and respect him for his entrepreneurial spirit and his vision, but the amount of effort that I have to put into purchasing a meal, isn't worth it to me. Sorry, but it's overrated. He has a huge following and is working on a store front in the near future. I may give it another try after that happens, but waiting and waiting for cold seafood, isn't fun. read more

My husband and I travelled from Gainesville, Va on his birthday looking forward to eating some delicious seafood. Unfortunately, we experienced the exact opposite. Upon arriving at the Brandywine location, we ordered over $100 dollars worth of food and waited 45 mins for the food to brought out to us at which it was cold... we explained this to the server who took the food back to "warm up". We waited an additional 25-30 min for our food to come back out which was "Luke warm" at best. At this point we decided to ask for a refund and leave. Also to be noted there were 3 other couples that complained about cold food. And I must say that upon arriving at 2:30pm they were out of blue crabs, fried rice, sausage, and ice. Mel Franklin asked county residents to order from our small businesses twice a week. Well I started doing so last week. Last night I ordered from this place. A crab cake platter. Well I was in the parking waiting 20 minutes and had to beg for attention. Then when I got my order 1) the corn was missing, 2 ) there was no crab sauce for my crab cakes, and 3) the cakes were swimming in the juice from the shrimp. The cakes were very soggy and not tasty. I called the restaurant and was told that corn did not come with my meal. Well I looked at the menu again when I got home and it noted that two pieces of corn came with that $26 meal. I dont understand why rhis place would put all the food together and allow the crab cakes to be ruined with the shrimp juice. Most of us have been cooking at home during this pandemic. I have been following Crab Boss for several months. I was excited to learn that they drive to different states. When I heard they were coming to Brooklyn I was ready to order. I did have concerns since they were going to New Haven, CT and Brooklyn, NY. Nevertheless I was still excited Brooklyn "pull up" was scheduled for 4pm 12/16/23. I placed my order online as told to do, what I wanted did not show up so I decided to get the Curry Crab. Around 2pm I received a text stating time and place has changed. New pick up time 6:30 ok np I could do that since I have an event at 7pm in Brooklyn. I leave home at 5:30 I am now in Brooklyn at 6pm not close to the location but I'm in Brooklyn. At 6:15pm I get another text stating "we apologize for the inconvenience we are stuck in traffic in CT we will arrive at 8pm." Ok now I'm frustrated so I ask for refund. I'm told a refund will be processed. Now that time is screwed up cause there is no need to go to my event this early. So I I tell them I could still come. Great! I arrive at the location I spot the van there are about 4 people ahead of me. The owner apologized stating "we do not do business like this." Remember the original pickup time was 4pm. He goes on about the traffic. So I said to him this is holiday time, New York has traffic every day. He said what holiday? I said Christmas you have people from CT, the five boroughs holiday shopping, Rockefeller Tree, and Traffic. Well now I tell him what I ordered the young lady working with him states I think they gave your food to someone in CT. So I'm offered what I originally wanted because at this time they don't think the other customer is going to show up. Ok I take the order it's 9pm so I decided to save my food for later. Food crabs smelled old, could not taste the seasoning. There was one lady who had been to the actual restaurant and stated everything was great. Unfortunately this was not my experience. The service was excellent, the wait was well worth the experience!! Our waitress Ms. Chell that is was the .com!! It just doesn't seem to matter when I come the service leaves a lot to be desired. Today after ordering crab cakes, I was asked 20 minutes in if I would rather get them fried to avoid an additional 18 minute wait. Yet, I waited an additional 30 minutes to get the order. When I inquired about my order after seeing everyone I came into the restaurant and people that came in much later. While speaking to the young lady to ask how much longer the wait would be, the young lady on the phone rudely asked if there was a problem. Please educate your staff on hospitality!
