Let me start by saying I'm a Blue Crab Addict, the first step in recovery is Acknowledgment and I don't want help!!!!! Captain Moe's is my neighborhood go-to crab spot. I used to frequent Moe's Seafood before it closed, and I would alternate between the two, but now Captain Moe's has my loyalty. I hit this spot at least once a week, sometimes twice, and they never disappoint. The crabs are always fresh, meaty, and flavorful. The size is exactly what I expect, and I usually get large males that are consistently on point. The guys in the back are friendly and make the experience even better. Great service but overpriced for Jumbo males crabs. As someone who LOVES crabs and partake weekly, this was a let down. The crabs themselves were a decent size and were meaty. BUT they lacked good taste. A Maryland Blue Crab has a sweet flavor. These were bitter. I would like to say that I will try them again, but I'm not certain. I bought a dozen large males yesterday from Captain MO's. I paid $90.00 and I was highly disappointed. Crabs were absolutely horrible, light weight and extremely salty and three out the batch were mooshy (uneatable). I also noticed crabs had a lot of water in them and let me also add that they weren't large to my standards! I took a hit but never again. read more

I love the fact that I can call to place my order ahead of time almost anytime except holidays which are first come first serve (line can be crazy then). Quality of the cook on the crabs is sub par. This used to be my go-to spot for crabs. However, I purchased 2 doz LG male crabs ($150) on 10/24... crabs Definitely not steamed, more like boiled... full of water. Upon opening 60% of crabs, water poured out. We waited while they were cooked, so NO they were not sitting. They were simply cooked in too much water,(evident by the amount of water in the crabs) vice steamed. This was a waste of $150.00. I have been waiting for the 2020 crab season. Checked Capt. Mo's FB page to see if they were opened. Yup so excited. Placed my order for a 2 pm pickup. Asked should I pay now, how will you keep social distancing in such a small space, etc. The young lady said that it would be controlled. Arrive at 1:45 pm. The line was outside for the pickup window. It was down the sidewalk. I called to see if I had to stand in the line because I reserved my crabs for 2 pm. Yes, I do and the line consisted of people both who ordered crabs and who just walked up. The ONLY reason I waited is because my mother was looking forward to crabs. The crabs were not hot, not warm, not cold. Room temperature. Same thing happened last Mother's Day. I ordered crabs and stood in the line with everyone else. By the time I reached my turn they sold all the males. I accepted female crabs. What's the purpose of pre orders? They could at least have 2 lines and process the pre orders first. I will not be doing that again. I have 2 crab restaurants with 10 minutes near me that have delicious crabs. The specials are not always comparable to Mo's, but that's ok. I'll drive down literally, down the street. read more

We stopped in on the way down south and ordered a half pound of steamed spicy shrimp. Half of the shrimp were given to us nearly ice cold, and a few weren't deveined properly. The spices were nice, though the sauce was just ok. My dining companion summed it up best: "we wasted our money" Maybe the crabs here are amazing, but the way they treated the shrimp makes us not want to come back. read more

Sooooooo disappointed with Capt. Moes right now. I and my family have purchased crabs from here for about 4-5 years now almost every weekend during crab season. After traveling 45 minutes to purchase large crabs I get home and realize I have a bag full of JUNK. I immediately called back and was told to bring the crabs back (which is crazy to me) but I did ONLY to be told they would replace 4 crabs because 2 were the right size. One mind you was not even opened. As much as it hurts me I will not purchase any more crabs from this place again. I will further place on my page for all the crab lovers I know that supports this place. I continued opening crabs looking for meat because I could not believe I had a bag of junk....not from Captain Mo'! Because of my loyalty to them I was willing to look over this and move forward BUT could not believe they were actually only going to give me 4 crabs after my wasted 45 minute drive there days earlier and another 45 minutes this day to bring them back! Hands down the best crabs in Southern Maryland! I always go with half dozen mediums. I crave these crabs... I tried other places but no other place is true to size and size matters. I always get nice full meaty crabs . I've been going to the place for at least 4-5 years. I've seen people drive from DC, Clinton and other places to get a taste of Capt Moes! Snow crab legs were a nice size for $15/lb. & delicious. Now, the mixed brown and small female crabs for $30/2 dozen were empty and tasteless and appeared to be recooked.... HORRIBLE!!! I doubt if I'd recommend this place to anyone. Go ahead and take the drive to the Wharf in DC. read more

I was a long time customer of Captain Mo's until my last visit! I paid for dozen of large and every crab was empty and overcooked! I was going to call and complain but what's the use?! I know many people that have called them and complained about their order but they got treated like crap. I've even watched a lady come back with her bag of crabs to complain and they looked at her like she was crazy! They had no empathy! I'll just have to eat this one and never return. It just really sucks to spend over $100 for crabs and they're empty! I have no problem with paying for good food however, don't ever try to play me! I feel like I got taken advantage of! Whoever bagged my crabs should really be ashamed of themselves. They knew those crabs weren't large. I normally by a dozen for myself and can only eat 5 and I save the rest for the next day but I ate every crab in one setting this time because there was no meat! There customer service is horrible! Every time I order from them I'm never disappointed. Get there early on holidays because lines are extensively long. On regular days you still see crowds and many time they sell out that should tell you something about what the crabs are like. It is official they have definitely lost their mojo! Customer service has always sucked, but I put up with it for many years because of the quality of the crabs, and preparation. For the past few years, it has been hit or misses, but I stayed with them because I didn't want to take the drive to the Wharf in DC. This weekend was my absolute final straw, I will never purchase seafood from Captain Mo's in Laplata, MD again!!!! I spent $165 for 2 dozen medium males and 2 dozen regular males. The medium males were more than likely prepared the day before and reheated or dead when they cooked them, and the regular males should've been left in the ocean for maturity purposes, as they truly were extra small crabs and cold. read more

Please be weary of ordering crabs from here. My sister called and ordered crabs for today (Sunday 5/26) on Wednesday. We got there 5 min early and were informed they were out of small crabs (the crabs we ordered) and they were just going to give us female instead. When we informed them they had been ordered, the guy said "yea I see it here but we are out. " No apologies or anything we left without . We were very disappointed that we had ordered crabs from there and there were no regards for that. What is the point of taking orders, if you're just going to sell out of them. read more

I said ok so I drive and let me say it was 6:15ish but when I get there they tell me the boiler is off. So why not say that we stop steaming at a certain time no need to drive here! read more

My second time this year getting crabs from Captain Mo's and they have been really good. This time I went with the large, they were nice and heavy and the meat was really flavorful. Their prices are always comparable to other crab spots in the area. I called ahead to place my order and they were ready for pick-up on time. This is a pretty popular spot in Southern MD, so you definitely want to get your orders in early on the weekends and the holidays; they sell out fast. I wouldn't suggest getting the steamed shrimp here. I've had them once, not good. Pre-cooked, small, no flavor. Stick with the crabs, and you are sure to enjoy. read more

I consider myself a regular customer and was very disappointed in the crabs I purchased on Friday, April 24. I requested 1 dozen large male and received a mix of regular and some medium, not one large crab in the bag. The reason I definitely know this is because when I bring home the large crabs they do not fit in my container, I have to use two. When I got these home on Friday, every last one of the crabs fit into the container. Not too happy spending the money and not getting what I paid for. read more

We saw a line going outside Captain Mo's while traveling back home. We decided to stop in and buy crabs while heading home during Labor Day weekend. We were not disappointed. The crabs (#1 males) were meaty and delicious. Some of the best we've ever had. The place is not much on decor but who cares, we're eating some good Maryland blue crabs.
