Food was about what would be expected at a Cracker Barrel. We came in on Xmas eve morning, so I was expecting it to be not to be as good as usual, but I was pleasantly surprised. Some things were a little on the "light" side, but that's to be expected, as packed as they were. Sure, the potatoes could have used another minute on the grill, but they were busting out orders super fast. The server, Mike, deserves 5 Stars, but I couldn't help but notice, while it was crazy busy, the manager was standing in the dining room with his hands in his pockets and a scowl on his face. At one point he did help one of his servers wipe down a table, and then flung the dirty towel at another server while she was passing by. Stopped here twice in two days with a large group of Air National Guardsmen. Both times, they got us in and seated remarkably quick, and somehow even got us our food in record time. We usually stop at this CB if on I-35. Usually the food is passable. We know what we are getting into. This time we ordered the Chicken and Rice Combo. It was really not acceptable. There were three very small pieces of tough chicken. The supposed mushroom gravy was non-existence. One minuscule piece of a mushroom was in a giant mound of rice. Certainly a bad dish. The waitress was a very nice and attention young lady. No problems with her. However, I won't eat that dish ever again. Should have had French Toast but wasn't in mood for breakfast late in the evening. read more

My wife really, really, really, was in the mood for Cracker Barrel. We found one close to where we were coming from in Buda. The server was great, however the food was the opposite. Called 2 days before thanksgiving, they told me to call at 6am to get on wait list, called the day before to confirm and they said they weren't doing wait list for thanksgiving and to cal the day of to find out the waiting time fRame. I called the day of and line was busy. Drove over at 10:40 and got on wait list. 1:45 minutes later , I got a seat!! Food was ok. Took 30 minutes to eat Waited another 30 minutes to pay! Visited this establishment on yesterday. It's gone way down. Breakfast was not good. The bacon wasn't fully cooked on either end and the eggs had an odor. My husbands plate wasn't clean. He could not eat his food. The place wasn't particularly busy, the food just wasn't as good. We paid anyway and tipped the server well (the poor preparation of the food was not her fault.) If things don't improve we will not patronize them. read more

My husband ordered scrambled eggs with sausage and french toast and I had sunny side up eggs with hashbrown casserole and country ham. Didn't snap any pictures since their food is pretty standard and looks the exact same every time we have it. Took my significant other here her first time for dinner. One small group ahead of us...5 minute wait to be seated. Sat down and was immediately met by our server Evelyn who brought us 2 sweet tea's right away (sans lemon wedges) Told her we had are hearts set on a dinner we had seen online but could not find on the menu called "The Country Dinner Sampler". After a minute in the kitchen she informs us that yes we can order this.YEA! The dinner consists of a healthy helping of chicken and dumplings, a slice of meatloaf and a slice of ham (but at 1/4" thickness could have been a little more generous), 3 sides and a roll and corn muffin. I opted for a side salad, corn and the hashbrown casserole and she a bowl of turnip greens, fried okra and the "fried" apples. Outside of my thin ham and slightly salty meatloaf everything had a great flavor. She loved the turnip greens and warmed canned apples, but passed on the salty meatloaf and well done ham. Service was really iffy during the meal as we had to ask twice for the frozen butter that was brought to us and the tea seemed to get weaker with each empty refill.I felt bad after leaving here as I was bragging about the meals I have had at numerous Cracker Barrel's around the country and after reading some of the reviews (wished I had prior) I have come to the conclusion that it's this location that falls below the normal fare one would expect from this great chain. This is not a food critique but service critique. I don't have an app, I do not use delivery services, I just use the phone and call in our order. My husband drives there and is able to pick it up immediately. Today, I tried 3 times to call the number I've called multiple times in the past. This time I hung up after 5+ minutes with no answer. I called again but didn't press any number and after a minute, it rang and the young lady answered laughing at someone's joke I guess and then announced herself. I said I wanted to place an order. She said to hang on, put me on the same hold as before for 3+ minutes at which point I called back and pressed to speak to an associate. A young man answered and I told him I wanted to place an order but nobody is answering the phone. He said to hold for the manager. I figured if the manager is taking orders I'll gladly let him/her. I held and held. No answer. You'd think I'd find another food source, but no. My husband ended up driving the 6 miles from us to place the order in person. Then he'll have to wait for the food. At least he didn't need to spend nearly 15 minutes on the phone waiting. Really, the food is fine but their workers need some supervision. read more

We recently went to Cracker Barrel before the dinner crowd. The restaurant was partially empty but we were seated along the side. I immediately noticed we were seated with other "mexican" customers. The anglo customers were all seated in the main seating area. This was the area that was empty. I wasn't the only one that noticed this. Segregation aside, our waitress was attentive and we received top notch service. My husband ordered the chicken dumplings but they were raw. He did not touch them. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was delicious. My daughter ordered the BLT and it was delicious as well. We will not frequent this establishment again as it appears Cracker Barrel is up to their old tricks again-segregating their customers. read more

This was the most disappointing visit to CB... My fried eggs were cold and my husband's pancakes were luke-warm. When I let the waitress know about my eggs she stared at me with a deer in the headlights expression, flapped her arms and said she'd 'be right back'... leaving me with the eggs I couldn't eat and not giving us a chance to let her know about the pancakes. She returned about 10 minutes later and said she had 'taken it off the bill'. There was no offer to bring a new order of eggs - just took it off the bill. My husband was now able to bring her attention to the pancakes he was not eating. This time she made no comment and just turned and walked away. When she eventually returned again she informed us our meal had been 'bought by the manager'. Although I appreciate the gesture of not charging us for a meal that was mostly inedible, we were actually there to eat because we were hungry. We are not the type of people that complain simply because we are looking for a free meal and we would have been happy to wait for them to cook a new order or to pay for what we could eat. Although our waitress looked for direction twice and (I assume) notified the manager twice that the meal was not acceptable the manager never saw fit to come and speak with us directly. It is clear that our waitress was inexperienced, and I can empathize with this. Unfortunately she has no real leadership from which she can learn from. Usually we rave about Cracker Barrels. You know exactly what home cooking you will get. This day we were 20 miles from where we were staying in Austin....late for lunch & early for dinner so we decided to do take out & eat later in our motor home. Yes, there were people eating but not that many coming in to be seated. We waited over 10 mins to have a wait person take our order. I saw people come in after us be seated, get drinks & have orders taken from our spot at the order spot before we had our order taken. Maybe if we sat at a table it would've been faster?? We were very clear what we wsnted when the waitress took our orders. AGAIN, our order took over 20 minutes to be packed & brought to us. My mistake was to not check at the counter. When we got back at our coach, I was shocked to see Andy's meatloaf & mashed potatoes had no brown gravy as requested (I saw her write it down) & no steamed Brocolli. My ham was tasty but only about 10 French fries. Usually you are swamped with them & these ones weren't even fresh. If I had been served at a table...they would have been returned to the kitchen. Oh well, thankfully, we aren't usually near Buda, Tx...& our home Cracker Barrel at McAllen, Tx is much better. read more

Cracker Barrel Buda,Tx. EXCELLENT from start to finish! My visit was on 12/31/17 My waitress was Christina H. She was so polite & happy. She always checked on our table, made sure our coffee was topped off & the empty plates were taken once we were done. We loved her personality! We will definitely go back because of her. She's a perfect example of how service should be at every restaurant. The food was so delicious! Chicken fried steak, pancakes, eggs, grits, hash browns, biscuits. The perfect breakfast!! $30 for 2 of us was pretty cheap considering how much food we got for our money. The country store/gift shop has so many amazing things. I was like a kid in a candy store. I spent over $100 there & it was worth every penny! We will definitely make a trip to Cracker Barrel more often. read more

We were looking for some home style food. We were seated had enough time to decide our order before the waitress came by to take our drink orders. Needless to say we ordered our food along with our drink order. 40 minutes later no food and no one had come to check on us or even to let us know our food would be out soon. We asked a waitress from a different section to please have our waitress come over , no one came and 10 minutes later we decided to leave. Spoke with a manager she offered gift cards but we kindly declined. We rather go else where to have a pleasant dinner and future breakfast. As we were leaving another couple waves the manager down with a complaint of their own. I love Cracker Barrel! I live in Houston and eat there about once a week. However, I was visiting my brother and we came to this location and it was awful. I know the waiter was new according to "rising star" on his apron, but really? He disappeared the majority of the evening. No refills until after I was done with my food. I had the special of chicken and rice on Saturdays. It was lukewarm at best. The dumplings order for my one year old niece were not fully cooked. Our biscuits and corn muffins weren't delivered til after we were all done with our entrees and not until we asked another waiter from another section. Also, spoke with manager at the time, in which he didn't offer a gift card or really any courtesy. Terrible. I would NEVER go here again. read more

I like Cracker Barrel. There, I said it. I only come here a couple of times a year for carry out, but it's my go-to place for chicken n' dumplins. I get the platter with two sides of mashed potatoes and the third side is uh...dumplins. I'm not proud of this starch fest, but it hits the comfort spot when I need it.
