Came to this Cracker Barrel for dinner Saturday night and it was crowded! Was so happy to see a Cracker Barrel on 270, wasn't sure how often they break away from 1-95. Got on the list but didn't have to wait as long as the hostess said. As a former hostess, I understand estimating the wait times is almost impossible, but almost as bad as underestimating is overestimating-because people will leave if you tell them too long. Not me, of course; Cracker Barrel would be my last meal on Earth. But other people.. Our server, Jodi, was such a sweetheart and even though it was busy, she took care of us and everything came out great. My 88 yr old mother wanted her dinner here- I called ahead, and although they don't take reservations, they held a table for 8 for our family. THe service was GREAT - thanks Ashley! She was very attentive to our needs and the food was fabulous- can always count on the fried chicken and biscuits to be the best all the time! I have been coming here for quite some time over the last year the customer service has declined with each experience. This particular time my family and I was seated but we weren't greeted by a server until I got up and asked to speak with a manager 15 minutes later. Once the manager came over I explained the situation and then another server came over and told us that he didn't know where our waiter was but he would take the order. Unfortunately, we are moving this place to our "avoid" list, at least temporarily. They seem to be having staffing issues which may be affecting quality. We ate there a few weeks ago and enjoyed our meal, but were bothered by the cleanliness of the table and dinnerware. We just ate there again with even more issues. As we walked to the main doors, we could see a ton of empty tables through the windows and anticipated that we wouldn't have a wait this time. Even so, the wait for our family of 4 ended up being a half-hour. They have the seating, but not the employees. Our meal took much longer to come out than normal, and this gave us plenty of time to be turned off by a number of things. Around our table was the musty odor of a swimming pool. At first, we were surrounded by unbussed tables, and when they started clearing them, we observed the waitresses themselves bussing the tables (picking up used napkins, grabbing dirty dishes with their thumbs on the plates, picking up used silverware, touching partially eaten rolls - but then immediately bringing new food to customers (holding drinks by the top edge, handling plates with their thumbs on the plate...) with no time in between to wash their hands. "Wiping the tables" consisted of one or two sprays from a cleaner and using the same dirty rage to swipe all the food and trash onto the seats and floors. We've observed this at a number of restaurants lately. It's quick, the customers will have to either sit in crumbs or flick away the food from their chairs, and the floor will just keep getting dirtier and dirtier until it is vacuumed at the end of the night. Our waitress seemed visibly bothered by how long our food was taking and offered to bring us biscuits in the meantime. (In better times, biscuits automatically came out soon after ordering.) The food quantity and quality was fair. My side of fries was about 10 fries, the carrots were not hot, and the pancakes were a bit burnt. My soda had come out late because the waitress had forgotten what I had ordered (which is fine), but there was no offer to refill my empty glass later on. read more

One of our go to spots for breakfast. My child loves their pancakes - so much so we bought the pancake mix this time to take home. You can tell the pancakes are cooked in butter by the crispy edge the often have. We ordered Frosty mug ciders, Momma's pancake breakfast and the Sunrise Sampler. The sampler is my staple because I get to try a little of all of their popular breakfast items at once. Got my first taste of Cracker Barrel here with my American friends. We went for brunch, and I had Grandpa's Breakfast which came with fried chicken, eggs, and hash-browns - it wasn't healthy, but it was tasty! They serve you biscuits (the Southern American kind, not the Australian kind) for the table, and the (white) gravy that comes with them was really tasty. The coffee was OK, but not great (next time I'll probably get the iced tea). Both the coffee and iced tea have free refills. Our server was a bit weird, but she got all the things we asked for and kept bringing us as many biscuits as we wanted (which has nothing to do with how many we needed), so no real complaints there. While we had to wait a little while, it was a Sunday on the Labour Day long weekend, so it was no big deal. read more

Wanted this to be a nice restaurant experience but unfortunately it wasn't for the most part at this Frederick, MD this location. I wanted to give it zero but I gave it a 1. This location has been lowered in customer service drastically. On Sunday morning, June 20th as someone from our party of 3 entered to place our name on the list. On holidays this location in handling crowds need to be more focused and staff need to be more trained using their system entering names for seat reservations especially if there are long waiting times with other people waiting to be seating to avoid mix-ups and to keep things moving in order smoothly. A guest from my party placed our name on the list. When we came back for the timeframe upon entering the restaurant the name was not even entered and management was not even able to find it. When a person from my party explained they did come in and for sure placed their name on the list a host by the name of "Aja" that was unprofessional and management allow her to be consistently rude to customers. The management allow her wrongdoings being one of the hostess at the front on this particular day with her nasty attitude speaking to customers, even the elderly customers in which was wrong going back and fourth mouthing off and rolling her eyes. Management had to tell her to walk off barely having any control with her. She needs to go back to be trained in etiquette how how to treat customers. Being a host is not the job for her. I will never return to this location until something changes based on the management and how they operate this particular business. The other Cracker Barrel establishments have been a great experience but this one needs a reorg with management and stop hiring unprofessional people such as her. The District Manager needs to needs to get this location is order, seriously. Based on the other reviews I read for this year, this location is going down in the dumps based on some of the ratings. It is unfair to the people that come in everyday that work do their jobs and enjoy the people they serve to unfortunately be in the mix with someone like "Aja" depriving a great experience with their families to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. I am a fan of this chain but not this particular location. Consistently slow service and the food is not as good. After several visits, I believe we will stop coming here. Our last visit the food did not show up. Our server finally noticed and went to check. The manager apologized, to their credit. However, the food came missing one of our kids' order, so frustrated and not willing to wait, I gave him mine. My pancakes were overcooked and dry, on top of all this. Too bad. read more

How hard is it to include stuffing in the Thursday turkey dinner special? This is the third time this has happened and it won't happen again as my husband now refuses to even entertain the thought of ever dining there again. Being from California, I had never been to a Cracker Barrel, I had heard how amazing they were, and when I got the chance to go to one, I went. Twice. Very homey southern country style atmosphere, great menu, huge portions, great price, the grits weren't what I was expecting, very thin, but then again, I am from California so perhaps I am not the best judge of grits. Country Fried Steak was incredible, biscuits were great, fluffy and good, gravy was a little smokey, which was great-different but great. Much like any other Cracker Barrel I've been to. It took a while to get seated since we had a larger party. The store is generic so we had a place to wander around while we waited. We were seated in about 20 minutes for a party of 6. We ordered, I had pancakes, eggs, bacon, and I got free hashbrowns (yay). Food was pretty good and service was pretty quick. We are in Frederick Maryland for a wedding so we decided to get some lunch before hand. There was a short wait before our party of 10 was seated, the restaurant was pretty crowded. It was nice that there is a little crafts shop in the restaurant that you can browse through while waiting. They had cute little items at very cheap prices. When we sat we were greeted by 2 waiters, one for each side of our long table. They promptly took our order. They were nice and quick with the service. Drinks and bread came out almost immediately. There is a hearty selection to choose from on the menu, enough to please anyone's mood. I ordered a ribeye, which came with a salad and bake potato for only $14. The food was good, not great, but it is definitely good for what you pay for. The restaurant was clean and well presented. I've never experienced a Cracker Barrel until I moved here from Seattle. Apparently I've been missing out. The pricing isn't too shabby, everything on the menu seems to be pretty reasonable in my opinion. I always order their French toast and I have yet to be dissatisfied. They nail it everytime. Stopped by on a Friday evening to grab dinner with our small group of 4. Place was already packed by 5:30PM, super busy! But I forgot how spacious the place was; plenty of tables! Despite how busy they were, our server was attentive and was always around whenever we needed him. There was a great deal on select dinner options so some of us decided to order from that list. I ordered the chopped steak with mushrooms & onions and asked for steamed broccoli and turnip greens as my side. Our table also ordered the pacific salmon patties, grilled trout, and a breakfast platter. Our platters came with corn bread and biscuits. Corn bread wasn't that great, no flavor and it was hard. But the biscuits are always worth it especially if you ask for apple butter on the side :). Food was honestly average, I would never crave Cracker Barrel. read more

This is not like other Cracker Barrels that I very much enjoyed and which are usually crowded. This one had lots of open seats, empty parking spaces, and now I know why. We got seated without delay but we literally sat there for 15 minutes without even anyone coming to our table. No hello, no water, no nothing. After observing other tables with what seemed to be service issues we just picked up and left. We had just given this place a second chance because about a year ago we ate there and a person in our party got sick immediately after eating the fish. We did call CB to report it. I just can't anymore with this place. I love me some Cracker Barrel, but the service at this location is atrocious. When we arrived it was a five minute wait just to put our names down, and another couple cut in front of us. The hostess didn't say anything and I didn't want a confrontation so I let it go. Then we waited ten minutes to be seated. The waitress came to our table within a few minutes and we knew what we wanted and ordered right away. Every ten minutes for the next 45 minutes she would pop by and tell us our food was coming out in "just a few minutes" and then would disappear in a flash. In 45 minutes neither of us got a single drink refill because she would just fly by to tell us our food was "on its way out" and disappear again. At 45 minutes we flagged her down and demanded to know where our breakfast was. She told us they were "staging our food right now". We asked what does that mean - tell us in minutes how soon it will be out. She said "I can't answer that - 6? 7? 8?" At that point we got up and left. We've eaten here dozens of times over the years but from now on we'll drive on to Hagerstown. This place is the pits. read more

I was here for lunch/dinner and it was great. I've only been to CB before for breakfast, and always liked that, but lunch/dinner is great too. Had some sort of fried chicken and swapped halfway through the meal with my friend for some sort of fried fish. Mac and cheese is always good there too. However, only thing that I ate that I was not a big fan of was the chicken dumplins. They skin seemed a bit uncooked. But, overall, would definitely go again (to any CB) for lunch/dinner. read more

Never seen a cracker barrel not busy. Parking lot empty except for a bus. Lady at the cashier had to announce guest at front 3 times before someone came to seat me. Then lady tells server to be sure all guest know a bus is in front of them? Either cracker barrel isn't a thing in Frederick Maryland or this is just poorly managed. I have been in cracker barrels with multiple buses and never waited to be seated let alone on food. I left once I heard the bus is in front comment. That means they didn't have cooks or servers enough to provide service. On top of their wasn't a person to seat people. Keep an open mind. This place is a little campy but the food was very good and inexpensive. We had the Sunday dinner special, two huge boneless fried chicken breasts with two sides. The chicken was super moist and the crust was crispy and full of flavor. We had enough to take home for lunch the next day, everything held up too. The chicken and biscuits were great reheated. We didn't try dessert because we were too full. Our server was on point, refills came without asking and he also gave us a walk away cup for the ride home. We will be back. read more

I stopped here today at around 3:00pm. The parking lot just had a couple of cars in it so I thought I would be able to go in and grab a quick bite on my way to work. The hostess told me it would be a 10 minute wait. When my name was called (about 30 minutes later) the dining room was practically empty. Only 8 tables had people seated at them. They had 2 servers working that I saw. After waiting about 10 minutes, the hostess came and took my drink order. About 15 minutes later my waitress came and took my food order. My food order came out around 4:00. As I was eating, I found a piece of cellophane (plastic wrap) in my food. When I went to use the restroom after I ate, the restroom smelled strong after urine. It obviously hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. Overall, dirty restaurant, slow staff, plastic in my food. I have never been in a Cracker Barrel that was run as poorly as this one. read more

My family and in particular my Mom enjoys the food here. I used to enjoy it as well, but the takeout service is not very good to say the least. It always takes at least an extra 15 minutes and usually longer to get our food even when getting there at the correct time for pick up. I normally have to ask the hostess or an employee to check on it at least once or twice as well, so in my opinion it is not worth the hassle. In addition, there's typically at least one item incorrect or missing, so I would make sure you check it before leaving. It's unfortunate as we want to like it and have been to Cracker Barrels with good service, but if getting carry out I would recommend going elsewhere until this is improved. Cracker Barrel was an old standby for my father (before he died) and anyone over retirement age. I don't know if it was the friendly female food servers or the fried foods served at reasonable prices along with the little touches like "you can have both a biscuit and a corn muffin if you can't decide." Comfort food with double a helping of comfort. However, the other day when I finally gave into my wife's pleading to pay CB another visit, we stopped by the Frederick outlet, fought our way through the gift shop, and were seated. I was at first very impressed with our food server. He was smooth and very friendly, and told me that he never had to be trained. He just slid into the job from his bartender hitch. This young Black man told me that his father was a cook in the kitchen. I ordered the barbeque ribs, my wife a catfish selection. Even with a packed restaurant, the food arrived before I was able to gulp down half my corn muffin smothered with butter. I couldn't believe such fast service. Then, after the food server left, my wife wondered if the fried fish was really CATFISH. Then I looked down and realized there was something wrong with the $12.99 McRib special. It looked like one of those plastic models of a meal in a Chinese restaurant. The sauce was congealed on top. When i cut into it, the rib meat was merely warm, not hot, to the touch. I imagined it had been sitting under a light waiting for a pickup. But I had just ordered it!!! My wife is not a complainer, and ate the breaded mystery fish without a word. I thought about complaining to the server about the congealed ribs, but it was so busy, I imagined waiting a while for it to be heated up. I asked the server for some BBQ sauce, hoping it would heat it up. I had to ask twice. He apologized both times, then ran off to deliver some pancakes or something. Once delivered, the sauce was almost cold, so I just brought the whole mess home and nuked it for lunch the next day. It was delicious. I think I would go back again. Slow service, waitress actually told our birthday dinner guest that she did not know how to make a chocolate milk shake and it was better to chose something else. Food took forever to arrive an one order was all wrong. The meal was declined without out reordering. Another meal was remade without our knowledge or consent and was still wrong and declined. The full bill arrived with only the declined entree removed. The restaurant did not offer to make any other adjustments, not even offering to comp the beverages. Paid for the full meal, tipped fairly and shared the experience with the manager. The manager stated that he had knowledge of the incident and argued that the refused meal was properly made the second time. Interesting that he didn't opt to visit the table and have a conversation with the affected customers and at least try to improve the experience somewhat. Don't bother spending money at this restaurant, there are plenty of other good options with better quality food, good service and more competitive prices. read more

Our first time visiting, it was the worse service I have ever experienced so far. My family and I went there to enjoy a family dinner, the four of us. We were excited to finally taste the hype of Cracker Barrel food but because of horrible service we did not enjoy our time there at the Frederick, MD location. When we were seated our waitress took about fifteen minutes to approach the table and ask what we would like to drink at this point we were all ready to order so we placed our drink orders as well as entrees except one order out of four because they were out of chicken tenders. So one party continued to look over the menu to decide on another entree. When we had to get the attention of another waiter to assist us because or waitress hadn't returned to check on us. He then put in the fourth order which came out within about 15min afterwards, mind you the first three orders hadn't come out yet nor closely after. At this point we have been in this restaurant for an hour and thirty minutes including the 25min wait we had before seating. I had to go search for our waitress by contacting another waitress to ask her where our meals were, and she came out with excuses of the kitchen is backed up. Yet folks they were seated after us had their meals served to them already. So we wonder why haven't we received our dood not to mention she didn't ask how did we want the eggs, sausage or bacon nor which bread such as biscuits or corn bread. We were so hungry but so dissatisfied with the service we were receiving which was so horrible. So we decided to leave but asked to speak with a manager before departing and the was a five minute wait before she came out to approach us about the situation at hand because she was in the kitchen talking to our waitress. Our waitress name was Brooke she must have been in training and should've still been shadowing someone. The young gentleman Ronny I believe his name was, he was the only pleasant person we came in contact with in the dinning area, kudos to him! The manager was seemingly understanding to our frustration and try to convince us to stay by saying she would go to the kit to figure what's going on with our food order but we were so disgusted with the lack of service we already endured so we left on an empty stomach. It was such a waste of time and such a inconvenience. After all that we ended up at three different fast food restaurants to satisfy everyone's hunger.
